[Q] SIM unlock on custom ROM - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

SO I messed up a bit.
I realize how easy it is to SIM unlock the i747 on stock 4.1.2
But before I unlocked it I rooted-> flashed CM10.2 (4.3)
Now the basic method to sim unlock through carrier settings is non-existent
My last resort is to pay for the code
Is there any way to unlock the S3 on a custom ROM for free?

Why not just make a backup flash stock, unlock then restore your nand problem solved

Easiest way to restore to stock

Hi all,
Unlocked the boot loader, installed CWM, made a nandroid backup then flashed a boot.img included in a CM10 ROM and installed CM10.
I don't like the battery drain and would like to go back to the stock HTC ROM I backed up with CWM nandroid.
Is it as simple as going into CWM and restoring the nandroid backup, do I have to flash another boot.img first -or- is it going to be a complicated process finding my CID/RUU/all that other stuff and baking my own original ROM?
Thanks
Extract the boot.IMG from your nandroid backup, flash that in fastboot then restore your backup in recovery

This worked, thanks!
For those researching it's exactly the same process as installing a custom ROM but instead of flashing a zip it's just restoring a backup in CWM.
One more question if you don't mind; will this method of restoring from my nandroid (and in general having unlocked bootloader/CWM/root) mean that when a JB sense ROM is released for my handset (Vodafone AU international) I will be able to do the built-in OTA method or, if ever prompted, I should avoid it at all costs and use offline flashing methods?
Thanks again
since you restored your nandroid.. You still got clockworkmod recovery and your bootloader is still unlocked.
To be able to get the ota by the default method, you need to flash the stock recovery and relock the bootloader.

Thanks I suspected as much, I bricked my Xperia Play by doing an OTA after unlocking the bootloader. Relocking and restoring fixed that but would never try getting into that much trouble again :fingers-crossed:

My nandroid is completely screwed up, I should have made a backup before I rooted it. The camera doesn't work at all and I can't fix it (no camera does), so I'm now trying to relock bootloader, and figure out how to get the custom recovery off/get it to install a clean copy of the ROM somehow
The only way I know is by a RUU be its not yet released for us yet that's why I asked but if u do find a way please do share thank anyway

[Q] Factory Reset back to stock?

long story short: I screwed up my D2CAN (Telus) with a D2ATT recovery, flashing a ported ROM from a Sprint S3 (MSG_Chubz ROM)
Now if somone wouldn't mind sharing some knowledge on how i can go about going back to complete Stock, i'd be forever greatful...
I am hoping to return to stock using Odin, and then want to Re-Root so I can flash stuff safely again.
Can someone suggest how I can go about doing this, without bricking my phone?
So in a nut shell: Would i basically Flash the (.tar) file I used to root my phone in the first place, with Odin?
Then after that, restore, or re-download the recovery of my choice, or is it a tad more complicated then I'm thinking?
Your thinking is correct. Flash the correct rooted carrier firmware, boot into stock recovery and wipe data and cache. Then proceed with a custom recovery via goo manager or rom manager. Make a backup

Yes, simply flash that in ODIN. It happened to me on my D2ATT. All I did was flash in ODIN and everything worked perfect on Stock again. NOTICE thought that this will most likely unroot your phone, or at least that's what happened to me.

Not if he uses a rooted firmware tar...like I mentioned already. You must have used unrooted stock. I understand that you're trying to build the 10 posts that you need to be able to post in the development section, but please don't post in a thread just to post. Cheers
All I needed to do was flash the proper modem for 1747m (d2can), and now phone calls and texts work perfectly again.
Thanks for the suggestions and help everyone.

Unlock _after_ installing CM 11

Hello!
I am trying to unlock my S3 (SGH-I747m) but the unlock code is not successful. I found a thread which made me hopeful but couldn't try the dial method as the dialing *#197328640# does not work on CM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712153
I know for a fact that the CM installation is _not_ the reason the unlock code is not working. This is because I had tried to unlock this phone way before I installed CM and it didn't work back then. Thinking back, I may have done something to the settings (reached via *#197328640#) over a year ago and I suspect that is why the unlock code is not working. Now, I would love to try out the steps listed in the aforementioned XDA thread but can't get to those options as they are not part of CM.
Is there a way for me to unlock (I have the code) this phone (CM installed) without reflashing stock Samsung ROM first?
Thank you.

The most likely reason that the unlock code is not successful is that you are no longer on the 4.1.1 modem. If you are not on the stock dialer the codes do not work even if you are on the 4.1.1 modem. And even on the stock dialer, not all codes are present after reaching the 4.3 modem.
IIRC
CM ROMs do not have the stock dialler and it is probably the stock dialler that you need to enter the unlock code.

I should mention that I can enter the unlock code just fine after rebooting the phone with another carrier SIM, just that the code is unsuccessful in unlocking the phone.
Since I am running Android 4.4.4, is it safe to simply download the stock 4.4.4 dialer and simple run the apk file on the phone?

I believe the phone will need the stock Samsung dialler.
I am not sure but the moto dialer may be an aosp dialer.

Oh okay. This is going to sound dumb, I'm not sure how to get the stock Samsung dialer which would be compatible with CM 11, i.e. Android 4.4.4.
Once I have it, I can simply flash it via recovery, correct?
What bootloader is on your phone? This is important to know before flashing anything.

Samsung Phone Info app says the bootloader is I747MVLUFNK2
I suggest flashing back to stock using the nk2 firmware from sammobile: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I747M/
Once you unlock the phone using the code, you can flash a custom recovery and re-flash cm.

I was afraid that was going to be the only option but was trying to avoid as I had a tough time flashing CM in the first place. Oh well, I will give this a shot soon. Thanks for all your help!
Flashing CM should be pretty easy.
After you unlock the phone, use Odin to flash TWRP. Boot into TWRP, create a nandroid backup. Copy CM and Gapps to your phone (internal or external memory), and flash CM11 and Gapps.

As I read your post, very little of it made sense but I was able to work through it one item at a time. I inadvertently downloaded CM12 nightly and now running Android 5.1.1. Oh well, at least is not Samsung's crappy version.
Again, thank you for all the help!
Edit: Oh and phone was unlocked easily once I went back to stock Samsung ROM.
Glad you got it working. You could have sent me a PM to ask for more detailed instructions. I wasn't sure how familiar you were with flashing the s3 via Odin, etc.

Thanks. I didn't want to bother anymore than I already was. Plus, one has to learn at some point how to do these things anyway. So it worked out alright.
We're all here to help and I don't mind helping when I can. Others on this forum have helped me through many phones, including my s3 which I haven't had for 18 months.

I just have a simple question about flashing

If I am rooted and have flashed TWRP can I flash back to stock using LG Tools and not have to worry about anything? I need to receive an OTA and this is the only way to do it. Is there anything else I need to do before flashing back to stock aside from backing stuff up? Thanks guys.
Nope just backup all ure apps and contacts the flashtool back stock then let it do its thing now like mine when i goback stock on mine im on kk so i have 2 or 3 updates to do
Ok so basically it will replace my twrp with the base recovery program?

Do you mean you have an unlocked boatloader and you want to relock it? You need to use ADB/fastboot on a P.C. with your phone in hboot/fastboot mode and enter"fastboot oem lock" into your command prompt window in the ADB folder then your boatloader will relock. You would also need to be on your stock recovery as well with your system unrooted and stock with no alterations to your system files to then do stock updates. Hope this helps.

If it's your boatloader you are referring to "locking" and you originally "unlocked" it you just need to use ADB/fastboot and the command prompt I gave you with your phone in hboot/fastboot mode and USB debugging enabled in your developer settings on your phone to "relock" your boatloader. As long as you're on stock recovery and haven't modified any system files you will be able to do stock updates after that. Hopefully that's what your wanting to do and I'm not just misunderstanding what your wanting and if I am I apologize.

Yes I believe those 2 mods change your system files to allow their codecs to work so they are modifications. Root, Xposed frameworks,WP.mod_ko to enable system write permissions etc... all can be modifications that need to be "undone" before updating a signed stock OTA or signed RUU( Rom update utility). Unsigned stock firmware in the form of compiled zips or TRWP/CWM nandroid backups supposedly need less to be stock but I have never restored from anything but "signed" stock RUU's so YMMV. I personally don't want to flash someone's personal nandroid backup to my phone because I don't know what if anything isn't "stock" on it.
That's a personal philosophy and I know they upload them for a reason to help those who can't find a signed update or use one but as long as I can I will because when you flash someone else's personal backup you flash the good and the bad, if any. Hopefully you backed up your stock rom before flashing Cyanogen mod , as I have it in my phone as well, and then you can just restore it when you want, reflash your stock recovery, lock your boatloader, unroot and then do any stock OTA's. I also believe you can flash your stock recovery , unroot in Cyanogen mod, remove mods and flash a stock RUU over your current ROM but I've also never personally done that . I just restore my stock backup , reflash my stock recovery, unroot, lock my boatloader and do stock update that way.
Best advice I ever got here was to backup and keep my stock ROM in a nandroid backup to micro SD card before any flashing of new custom roms, find your stock zip or RUU exe and save it to your computer just in case and the same for your stock recovery because you never know when you might need it and I have. Multiple times and it's all in a folder on my computer. If it's a U.S. variant the RUU's are on HTC's website. If not most are found online. Just don't flash the wrong firmware or it could brick your device.

Yes , as long as you don't "dirty flash" over Cyanogen mod with your stock backup. Always do a factory reset before flashing between different roms then wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery before reboot into system. You also need your stock recovery flashed back as well before locking your boatloader. Otherwise I use TWRP.
