[Q] Cryo mod and installing stuff

Hi ,
Im kinda new to the whole business, I managed to install the *cyanogen* mod which is pretty cool, except for the fact I have no google apps. I downloaded the gapps zip of the google addons. My question is how do I install them? I have them in my download folder and on my simcard folder, also I cant download rom manager because I dont have market on there. I also downloaded that source.
How do I install this stuff? from terminal or from PC to gadget?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys and girls!

cyanogen not cryogen -_-
nevermind, i think i figured it out, if it involes just renaming the packages to update and rebooting etc than I am ok. If not someone please say so lol
Just go into clockwork, install zip from sdcard, choose zip, then select 'yes'. Simple as that
You need to have Gapps on the root of the sdcard, meaning not in any folder. Do not rename it "update.zip" because that's what clockwork is. Reboot Into clockwork and choose "install from sdcard" or "choose zip" and flash. You should be golden.

How to add apk files into a rom

hey i want to add some files like htc clock.apk and calculator.apk to N.S.A rom, so how do i go about it. Any help
Thank you.
unzip the ROM, add them to the app folder and rezip it and then flash the ROM (making sure the recovery utility you're using allows non-signed ROMs)
i am using clockworkmod recovery, does it allow flashing unsigned rom??
Thanks

Sorry, what does that means.
Yes, you have to remove the signing checking option in it (under advanced or something, have a play about)
hey use Android kitchen to Modify the Rom as want
>you can add and remove apps
>you can create your own custom rom if want..!!
>And you can sign the modified ROM

Hi all, i'm a new user and i have some trouble adding .apk's into cooked roms.
In particular, i'm trying to add some .apk into /system/app of InsertCoin Gingerbread 1.0.5
I have unzipped the rom, add those apk's, zipped again but when i flash it from recovery it says "Can't Find Update Script".

Don't(!) unzip the rom. Just open the archive using 7zip or winzip (or something like that; right-click zip and choose 'open archive'). Then just move apk to correct folder. If you're taking apk's from another rom, open that using 7zip as well. Then, drag the program from one rom to the other. When you're finished and want to flash the rom, make sure you've disabled 'signature verification' in recovery (it is an option in recovery).
Thank you, i was able to flash my first "modded" version with different boot/down animation, Teeter game (i love it) and Titanium Backup
The only thing i was not able to do was Root Explorer, i tried to put it in system/app and in data/app but when i flash rom it doesn't appear in the drawer.
Any suggestion?

I have been learning how to do this in the last few days and have had similar issues as you. I can get some to install fine and appear in the drawer but not all.
I have only been adding the apk's to system/app and not data/app. Should the apk's be added to one of these, both of them or another folder completely?
Can anyone help the two of us out?
I used apk swapper but all the apps are not working

OI File Manager in CWM format

Hello,
Does anyone can post the free OI File manager in CWM package for Jelly bean?
It will save a lot of time when switching to a new rom!
Thanks in advance
I'm not sure what you meant.
Are you looking for this?
Aroma Filemanager http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108
Or, is it a flashable zip that contains OI File Manager? Why do you want it? Just curious
I am looking for a flashable zip of a file Manager. I can install it when I change Rom and this way it is not necesary for me to set up a google account. I can restore all my previous settings and backups if I have a file manager.
Anyone can help with a flashable zip CWM of a file manager?
Thanks
You can add/insert the file manager into a rom.zip then flash the rom.zip that has the included file manager. You have a file manager at the first boot.
I can make the flasable zip for you if you still want to
Here you go.
Thanks. Really nice from you. Just what I needed.

Yes, I noticed when I flashed CodeNameAndroid ROM, which includes a file mgr, that you can do pretty much everything you need to do without a Google account or even gapps. The exception is that paid apps that check their license on the play store still need all that stuff. Otherwise you're free of Google.
If you ever need to make a flashable zip out of any app, you can always use "App2zip" by SCDevs.

Flashable zip

So I have a bunch apks that I add to every rom that I flash.... I was wondering if someone could lend some knowledge. I want to put them together in a flashable zip u can use in recovery, but do I just zip them in winzip and done? Or are there other steps I need to take? Should I use something besides winzip? Thanks in advance.

You will need to make a folder called update, inside make a folder called META-INF,in the META make folders called com/google/android,so the structure looks like this... META-INF/com/google/android,this thread will tell you how to make an updater script... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=641223 ,after you've created an updater and update scripts, after that in the same area you made the META folder, make a folder called system, inside system make one called apps, then put your apps in there and add the symlinks pointing to the apps, which is in the same thread as above. After you have finished that, right click the update folder and add to archive,in compression settings use "store" method and type of compression, use zip, then zip it up and theres your flashable update script.

Or u could just find a flashable zip of a mod or apk in the themes and apk section for evo and then just add ur apps to it. Should work as long as updater script mounts and unmounts /system.
U can use 7zip or winrar to open the zip up. Open up system folder then app folder. Add ur apks and delete the things the script originally added unless u want them. Easy as that.
Name of flashable zip doesn't matter btw
