I recently bought a kindle fire from a friend and planning on rooting it and installing a ROM. It is running 6.3.2 currently and was wondering if this is correct forum. I was reading this other thread and it had has this forum is only for devices 6.3.1 and prior. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928866)
Yeah, the Mods locked that thread shortly after it was made so it's kind of a PITA to edit it.
Not to toot Jessica's horn, but SmoothROM is an excellent ROM for the Fire.

The kindle fire hd cannot be updated with a new rom. It can be rooted. A different rom bricks it.

You'll find themes for TWRP in Kindle Fire Themes and Apps but they are outdated and probably won't work. I haven't seen any themes made for the newer TWRP releases.

So i've heard and read that the latest version of KFHD (7.2.3) is completely locked and only a genius can unroot it and stick on a stable ROM.
I did a quick search of the forum and i've seen, yet, anything concrete on 7.2.3... I know it works for 7.2.2 and below but don't know about 7.2.3.
Hope i'm just plain jane wrong.

Have you even bothered trying to find the answer for yourself? There is a thread on this forum called rooting the 8.3.1 from scratch with detailed instructions.

I just got a brand new kindle fire from my boss who is not using it.
This is the model: D01400
And this is the System Version: 10.4.6_user_4620220
What can I do with it? TBH I don't like the fact that I can't add a SD card ... But meh.
I'm looking forward to mod it and install a custom ROM with last android version if possible.
