Hi,
I installed Cyanogenmod 10.1.2. It works great and I really like it. The only thing I don't like is that it will only display 3G and H+. Is there anyway to get back the 4G icon? I know T-Mobile doesn't offer true 4G except for their LTE network. I know it's cosmetic but it would be nice to have the 4G icon back. Thanks.
David
When I was using my Nexus 4 with the LTE radio enabled, CM10.1 displayed the 4G icon while I was connected to LTE, and the H+ icon while connected to HSPA+. The T999 doesn't have LTE, that's why you don't have the icon in CM10.1.
I don't know exactly how to go about changing to the 4G logo, but I'm sure someone else here can help you.

I'm not aware of a way to do it.
You could try one of the many TW ROMs. I recently switched from CM10.1 to S3Rx and have been happy with it.
Interesting cause I'm the exact opposite. On S3Rx it says 4G and I wish it would say h+, or 3g, or whatever.
I'm running a CM based rom on my T999L and I get the 4g icon in places with the new 4g. Elsewhere you get the H+.

Thanks for the reply. I do not believe S3Rx is available for CM10.2 which is Android 4.2. I really like the new features of 4.2 so I guess it's worth the sacrifice of not having the 4G icon.

Thanks for reply. Unfortunately I do not have the LTE version of the Galaxy S3.

Yup. S3Rx is 4.1.2.
I agree, I liked CM quite a bit also but I found myself needing wifi calling, so I had to switch.

I haven't tried it specifically with 10.1 yet, but apps like rom toolbox let you change the icons in the statusbar. There is several options for 4G icons. It worked perfectly on previous versions so it should work.
tp2215,
Thanks for the reply. I looked into the Rom Toolbox app. It only changes the 4G icon if the 4G icon is displayed initially. I was looking into changing the 3G icon to display 4G (I know it's not true 4G but T-Mobile's version of 4G). Thanks.

Not sure what you did to get all the force closes. I followed the directions in the OP and have never once had an issue.
All of this is from the MIUI thread. You should check there for any questions that you have in the future...

The signal bars for AOSP is your data speed (ex 3G) and not your voice signal strength. Sense ROMs, like MikFroyo are showing you voice signal and that is why it seems stronger than an AOSP ROM.

From all that I have read, you have to go back to a Sense based ROM to update your PRL. Then you can go back to an AOSP based ROM.

Miui does not support wimax yet,
To update PRL you have to flash sense, or use CDMA workshop, don't bother, because by your post I'll assume that's much too complicated,
And please post in the correct forum next time.
You can flash the zip on aosp but if u want to do it through the settings menu then you have to use a sense Rom.

This has been answered so many times... the bars its showing are the real 3g... sense shows you 1x even though its labeled 3g. A rom can't change the reception you get....
no 4g no matter what.
Have to use a sense rom to update prl.
Why wouldnt you post this in the miui thread?....
I always keep a sense based rom on my SD card whenever I want to flash quickly to update profile, prl, or use and # commands. That's the best way and then nandroid back to your previous rom.
Post in the right section tho next time because people will flame about this lol

Triple S by MBQsniper is a great rom series. I am running v6.5 Pre-Release right now. Both 3G and 4G connections work. If you do get it, I suggest you use the Nemus launcher.
There is one version newer (Nov. 11), v6.6 you can test it out. I can't vouch for that one though. Haven't used it.
You can just as easily use WiFi Tether for Root Users, you can also grab it HERE.
I've been out of the Android game for awhile, so forgive my noobish questions.
I dont seem to be getting good signal at al.? The value fluctuates quite a bit (95-70, but usually 80s), which is really bad compared to when I'm on stock. Anyone else feel the same? It sucks because I absolutely love Cyanogenmod but I don't get anything more than 2 bars ever.
Is there a modem or something I can flash to get better service (I can't seem to find something about good ones)? While I'm asking questions, I might as well ask: How do I flash a modem? Is it as easy as flashing a zip from recovery immediately after installing Cyanogenmod?
Thanks in advance guys.
AOSP ROMs will display your LTE/EVDO/eHRPD signal strength while TW will only show 1x strength. That's why it seems like your signal strength is worse but it's really not.

Is there a way to fix that? And by fix, I mean is there a way to just display it on my phone the same waY TW does? I know it's not correct, but I would like to see more signal bars for my sanity.

Not that I know of. But I'm sure you could get a widget or app that will show your 1X strength.
Latest CM 10.1 gets no GPS signal for me. Data's never been excellent but decent. Also reboots randomly. Yikes!
Ya Samsung made this phone to run TW, I have pretty much accepted that fact as much as I like AOSP. I'm just going to have to buy a Nexus if I want it. So thank God for people like rompnit so I can turn a TW ROM into a complete AOSP look with MOAR.

To answer your second question, yes. Flashing a modem is as easy as flashing the zip from recovery (doesn't matter what ROM you flash, baseband is independent of it)
What you wanna do is head over to freeza's stock rooted thread and download the firmware flashable under "MD4 Firmware". Then just boot into recovery and flash it...and your modem is now up to date! Freeza also has flashables for the other modem's, so I would highly suggest going through a week with each one to find out which works best for the places that you frequent / travel to and then flash that and stay on it  :good:
Hey guys, I have a question. I like aosp Roms such as aokp and others
Like pacman ROM. The problem that I am having lately is that I have to
Keep going back to my backed up tweak ROM because I get awful data
Drops when I am trying to listen to my ihart radio or Xm radio at work.
The signal were I work is not great but, with my touchwiz ROM it works better.
The APN setting look fine and say T-Mobile. Is there a technical reason
For this? I love the tweaked ROM, probably the best out. But I am not a touchwiz guy.
Any help would be great!! Thanks in advance

Man, I live in a crappy area in Yonkers New York and my data is very spotty at best but I flashed the latest Probam ROM for my Tmobile Note 2 and am here in Manhattan and getting 4 bars of LTE service, so I am convinced it's whre i live.
Yea, Im on customs roms too and it really hard to track down whether its the rom or the network. To me its one or the other and I usually just give it a quick reboot and everything gets worked out. Its a very subjective matter and hard to pin point down the problem. Based on my opinion, dont know which one it is.

So very happy to see that its not just me. I have an ATT Note II running on Tmobile. At first I thought that the difference between ATT and Tmobile may have been causing the difference. After playing with the mobile network settings for a while I noticed that the preferred network keeps changing to WCDMA after I set it to LTE. Im pretty sure that this points to a rom glitch. Anyway, please let me know if you find a solution
Need some testers for an AOKP unified S3 test build. As this would include Sprint would appreciate anyone who could download, clean flash and let me know the result.

Downloaded and flashed just fine on my d2vmu. Running smooth. Would like to see a Quick Settings toggle for LTE, otherwise no complaints. LTE and 3G working just fine, depending on what I choose as preferred network type.

Please do me a favor and put that in the AOKP section on custom ROMS as we never had an official discussion thread.
Once it's decided who will be the maintainer I may open one here if no one else does.
Congratulations! All d2 devices supported by CM are now in the AOKP unified d2lte build. This now includes Sprint.
On behalf of Team Kang I'd like to thank those who helped in testing as it ensured a smooth transition.
Changes took effect on the most recent nightly.

This is on the 4/18 nightly. I get 3G just fine and when it goes to transfer into a LTE area I drop data. I have signal bars but no data.

Thx. Can you find the latest one that worked and I'll start backtracking? And may want to try new nightly and see if fixes. (Heard one running today)

Wanted to say thanks for all the awesome work on this, really great build. Not sure if this is right place, but since the latest couple of builds I'm not able to change roaming from 'Home' to anything else.
Also, tethering will turn on and appears to work but does not route packets.
