Can anybody enable wifi tethering?
I try but get an error with rogers rom with rogers kernel
As an FYI, the feature works on stock Rogers phone. [just tried it with mine]
Thanks, indeed my custom kernel was the cause of it all! thanks again
Think we could find a fix for the AT&T Version of this phone? It's one feature I love.

I found my fix for that, flash the rogers kernel and rom and you have it
Hi, I just reecieved my new Capativate glide yesterday. Is there any way to enable the wifi tethering without ATT charging you the extra $45 on your service plan?

Thanks, I wasn't sure if thar post was refering to cloning yourself from ATT. The only question I have is will that give me all the Rodgers branding. I would love to wait for Caynogenmod to come out with a custom rom for this phone!

Root the phone.
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/root-captivate-glide-rogers-and-att/
Use Titanium Backup to remove the tetheringmanager package.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hudXl76Rwfg
There may be other ways to do it but it worked for me. I had to reboot after removing the package or I got an error.
you can also use root explorer (must be rooted) to delete : /system/app/tethering manager.apk
DONE!
tether freely until they snag you by mac address/packet info... At&the now detecting tethering by packet type value
An app called Easy Tether will allow you to USB tether your ATT i927 without rooting.
it does require a software install on your laptop.
Wifi tethering doesn't work ... at all
Rooted or not: Wifi tethering doesn't work on mine.
Tested it with both ROMs available: Rogers & AT&T : same result : doesn't work.
I tried to remove "Tethering Manager.apk" : same result.
I always get the same error message.
After ticking the checkbox to enable "WiFi mobile hotspot"
It says :"Deconnecting WiFi"
And then "Data not available"...
And shuts down the mobile hotspot (which was not even started).
Any idea ?
Thanks.
Update : USB Tethering is now working with Rogers ROM - still no WiFi tethering (exit with an error) !

Your method works! I used titanium backup to make a backup and then remove tethering manager package and now the wifi tethering works
Many thanks!!
Alternatively, you can use the wireless tether app (I verified it works if rooted - http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/) but this method is definitely better
Works real good
Yes...I have tested it and it works fine....thanks for the link and the info
Pdanet apparently works

Thanks so much! I was trying to use another method, and didn't like the Rogers rom because it didn't have some of the integrations with my Corporate email but deleting the TetheringManager worked! Awesome!
Now I just hope I can get the ICS Update fine when that comes out Hopefully someone will do a stock ATT ICS rooted img
I have a problem: I can start wifi sharing, my computer connects to it, but then it says "limited access", without being capable of accessing to internet. i have tried on two different computers, with no success, both using Windows 7. With my older Samsung Galaxy Young and Motorola Droid 2 Global I have never had any issues.
I have tried both by removing the wifi sharing manager, and also using the Wifi tethering for Root users, mentioned above, but with no success.
Hope someone can help.

I have almost the identical setup.
Samsung Captivate Glide (SGH-I927, AT&T) I927UCLJ3 ICS 4.0.4 original stock ROM Clockwork Mod Recovery Rooted
Downloaded the Foxfi APK file onto my computer transferred it to my 927 and installed it.It works just fine (haven't used it much yet). It is the free "base" version (which is not available from google play store for ATT phones).
You have to go to the Foxfi web site to get the download, without any interference from big brother!
Can someone confirm that the tethering app/fix/rom is working with the new 4.04 ICS?
I tried a search around the forums but could only find a link to :
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
And that doesn't seem to say if it works with 4.04
I'm still new to rooting phones and just did it last week using the toolkit on my CDMA Verizon Nexus. If you can find a link for a working version, please link me
Thank you!
WiFi Tether, the app in the link you posted, is IMO the best and only tether app to use. And I can confirm that yes it absolutely works on 4.0.4.
+1 on that!
thanks for the confirmation.
I'm a little new to rooted phones though, what's the easiest way I can get this apk file to work on my phone?

It should be easy, just follow the link you posted on your phone. Navigate to the "download" section, download the latest stable version (should be at the top), it will download. Install it, if you need to find it via a file manager it should be in "sdcard/download". Once installed open the app, grant SU permission. Profit.

If you are already rooted it should be as simple as downloading and installing the .APK
EDIT: Post above is a little more descriptive... should refresh before I reply.
I rooted my sprint HTC one m9. I was wondering if there is a way to get a free Wi-Fi hotspot now? I want to get around sprint telling me to pay for it. Please help me out. Thanks!

I converted my ATT to Developer Edition and have tethering and hotspot. Not sure if you can convert the Verizon version to DE.

So do I have to get a rom just to be able to do that?

You could try this app - http://pdanet.co/android/ (available in google play store, but may be blocked by Sprint and AT&T.)
Also works on non-rooted phones!
The only downside is you'll need to pay a one-off fee for the full version unlock key.
I have tried pdanet+ and foxfi before, it doesn't work on Sprint.
I am looking for a way to do it with root access.

Not sure how Sprint detects tethering, but there are a lot of different tethering workarounds out there, maybe one will work for you. Get an Sqlite editor, and navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/telephony.db and click on "carriers" and "carriers_cache", screenshot each, and post them here. I found a way to make it work on T-Mobile, might work for Sprint too.
I got SQlite Editor and found the file but it tells me "Error: no editing of system databases yet"

I don't know if any apps work yet for tethering, but I'm on sprint and using bad boyz ROM which allows you to use the mobile hot spot.
I got pdanet+ to work for tethering, but not hotspot. Could you provide a like for that rom?

It just always worked for me, maybe try dirty flashing the ROM and wiping both caches and see if it helps.
Tethering
Hmm...do you have Android 5.0 or 5.1?? I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I recently updated via ota update and then rooted my phone.
Using LeeDroid here with no luck, devices can connect to my hotspot but no internet
need help

HTC one m9 rooted, S-off, Verizon, CM13.
Have an HTC one m9 himawl, that is rooted and also S-Off and has TWRP custom recovery. I'm running CM-13. Initially after I flashed custom recovery and CM-13 (after S-Off ing) my GPS did not work. So I reflashed back to stock, enabled GPS, then reflashed custom recovery and cm13 and my GPS worked. Alright so I had a similar issue with my screen casting, I followed the same method of flashing to stock, then enabling everything I could think, then reflashed to CM. That seemed to work. Now however I want to get WIFI hotspot to work but it will not. I can enable hotspot on CM13, people can connect to my hotspot, but no data is flowing through to the devices connected. Any help appreciated. Again this is HTC One M9 for Verizon that is S-Off and rooted. Thanks in advance.
Other phones have had luck by temporarily disabling Superuser or using root cloak but that's not working for me at all.

I haven't had any luck so far. It's kind of frustrating.
So over the last few days Chainfire has released his systemless root method for the new Google Pixel devices. My question is has anybody found a way to bypass the subscription check on the device? A post made by jphillips.hd88 outlined the only method that works for me, which involves installing a third party network refresh application, and then while the network is refreshing you quickly turn on tethering and it skips the check. This works, but I want to know if there is any way to unlock the native wifi tethering feature, especially since we have root now. Any ideas?
Did you try adding the no provisioning line to the build prop and using Wi-Fi tether app?
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Yes sir. No good there.
I just made a guide on how to do it, hope it works for you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/root-guide-native-hotspot-t3493286
Unlock bootloader, root, install some sort of file manager with root browsing( I used es file explorer and enabled the root explorer), navigate to /system/build.prop and edit the build.prop by adding this line to the bottom as the very last line " net.tethering.noprovisioning=true " Save the edited build.prop and reboot. This is what worked for me.

The guide was great, but it did not work for me. The device still checks for a subscription. It looks like I'm still stuck using the flaky work around that barley works until we get a custom rom for now.
Basically the line In the build prop is the way to do the wifi hotspot tethering that way you can use your phones internet on other devices that don't have internet. Also make sure to add the other lone written in the guide. It ensures there is no check for the subscription theoretically. If you need help please let me know. I will be also creating a script soon to do all this for you.

Did you follow everything exactly step by step? If you need help with it just let me know. Also what do you have the Verizon or google variant
Yeah. I actually did it twice. I'm on Verizon, but I purchased the device from the Google Store.

It worked for me. I'm not sure why it didn't work in the past. I followed the instructions and it just didn't take. The only thing I can assume is that Root Explorer didn't save the build.prop or I made a typo. Regardless it is all good now. Thank you.
