I am looking at buying an Arc, Neo or Ray but I need Smart Dialling.
I am new to Android. Do I need to be worried about the lack of smart dialling on the Xperia or can I just download a new dialler?
If I install a new dialler then will it launch from the standard Xperia UI dialler button or will I have to launch it like an app?
Are all 3rd party Smart Diallers pretty much universal in Android or would I need to ensure I got one that worked for the Xperia? (it is a slightly odd resolution).
Anyone running the standard ROM but with a custom Dialler? Which one?
Thanks for the replies
It turns out that the above devices have text search for contacts and SMS. So even though it is oddly missing from the dialler I guess you can achieve the same result from contacts (just without the convenient hardware button).
Try Go Contacts
I have been using Go Contacts for a while and it seems to be very stable and it work really well with my arc.
There are plenty of dialer available in market. Dialer one and go dialer are my favorite.
You will have to launch it like an app. If you use go launcher..you can even assign dialer app to standard icon.

Dialer One used to be the best T9 dialler, but it's become bloated and asks for way too many permissions.
I now use dialer2, which is fast, small and works perfectly well on my Arc (as does every other app i've tried - android apps tend to be pretty resolution agnostic).

The standard Xperia button is just a shortcut which launches an app. You can easily swap out shortcuts in the dockbar in the Xperia UI just by drag&drop, so it's a piece of cake to replace it.
Once you install a 3rd party dialer, any other apps which require a dialer will cause a pop-up screen to appear asking you to choose between the Xperia's stock dialer and the new 3rd party one. You can choose one of these to be the default and that will stop the popup from recurring.
Also check out TouchPal Dialer (from the makers of TouchPal Keyboard).
Ders also angel dialer...does a pretty good job..

One thing I dearly wish for is for my notification windowshade to show me individual emails and text messages. I don't receive massive amounts of email/sms, maybe 50 a day in total. But if I don't immediately check my email or sms before another one comes in then all the windowshade does is tell me I have 2 new sms or 3 new emails. YOU DON'T SAY!! I knew that as soon as I turned the screen on cos of the icons on the notification bar.
Is there a way to have the OS separate out all the messages individually, so I can read the first few lines (just the way I can if I just have one message)?
Ideally I would also like a way to delete (not just dismiss) emails directly from the windowshade, without having to go into the GMail app. And no, I don't want to use a widget.
Any suggestions?
I'm still running Gingerbread, btw. I gave up on testing ICS roms a couple weeks ago (will probably just wait until there's a fully functional CM9 ready).
I don't think this is possible without modifying the specific Google apps, and even then it is something Google specifically wants to avoid... see here, ICS Design http://developer.android.com/design/patterns/notifications.html
scroll down to "Stack your notifications"
If your app creates a notification while another of the same type is still pending, avoid creating an altogether new notification object. Instead, stack the notification.

Well that's a real bummer
So theoretically a dev could implement notifications that don't stack. I wonder if someone would be interested in modding the GMail app in this way?
Please be advised this application is under constant development.
Compact Calendar was developed to solve the need of compact UI experience that I was missing using the regular WP7 calendar. Also in the time when I started this project, there was no possibility to import additional internet calendars. And also I wanted to gain experience in WP7 development.
Few words about the app:
Events are being read from built in calendar (so please do not define them again in compactCal), after that you can import any ical you want. They can be downloaded by configurable time span from 15 minutes up to a year.
When the list is scrolled to the bottom of list, calendar will be feeded with events from configurable time frame, again time frame is from 15 minutes up a year. You can also switch on/off loading of past events (time frame is also configurable).
You can choose from two kind of view: compact and even more compact view. Duration of each event can be displayed in four ways: classic (09:00[am] - 11:00[am]) or advance (10:00[am]-02:00).
To quickly find the closest event simply touch the first event text at top of a page.
To display more details about the event double tap event you are interest in (first display is a bit slow), if you have an address there and the bing can find it, it will be displayed. To see next or previous one use the finger to swipe to the right (next) or left(prev)
Of course there are a lots of place for fixing the app and I'm still working on it, but I wanted to share the current beta with you and maybe gain some reviews about the general idea, get reports about new bugs that you found, or maybe some requirements that are not on my list.
Missing, todos:
- bug fix
- better/nicer icons
- performance test and fix
- creating reminders
- creation of new entries, currently compactCal is just a readonly application
- tiles, live tiles
- How to modify the screen lock to display the information from calendar
- more
Issues can be found on bitbucket.org, add this suffix (since I cannot add external urls) /jstadnicki/compactcal/issues
Application runs on my LG-E900 and emulator. Was not tested on any other device. This is my first WP7 application so please treat gently.
Hope you guys will like it.
Jarek
Wow. looks great. Is it possible to color events based on categories from Outlook Exchange? I know, i couldnt enter them in the WP7 calender, but the field is available. Maybe you can use it or WP7 will use it somedays with a update, what is hope so much.

Unfortunately no - there is no such api that can give me this kind of information.
Hello guys! I'd like to report here that LightFlow finally supports the Sony SmartWatch 2! If you're already using it for handling the leds of your phone, you can also forward the notifications to the watch just selecting a checkbox.
Here's a link to the app: https :// play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow (sorry I don't have enough posts).
It works pretty smoothly, so give it a try!

Can you help me understand how this work with the SW2? Does it replace existing notification extensions? Thanx!

You can select for each of your application how it notifies you. For example, if you want to handle your Facebook's notifications, you can select the color and frequency of the led, the sound, the vibration, etc., but also you can now send the notification to your watch.
This is pretty neat, because a lot of events can be handled by that app: you could for example send a notification to your watch when your phone is fully charged, and so on.
Here's a screenshot for Facebook: http://i.imgur.com/rfvupl9.png .
Wow, that does sound neat. I think my ROM has a way to program different light colors but it was never that interesting to me. But it sounds really interesting so I will check it out. One question... are they full notifications (eg the full email)?

How does it send the notification to the Smartwatch? Could you attach a picture showing it please?
Regards.
It must only be in the pay app. The free app doesn't show it. I wouldn't buy this without a chance to test it out.
I love when an app I bought and used to use adds functionality that compels me to re-install :victory:
I have paid LightFlow and I can't get it to work with sending notifications to SW2
Could anyone help me?
Edit: Had to re-install app
I started using Lightflow again after getting my SmartWatch - it seems to support all notifications, and extended Gmail notifications as well (which is great).
Is there a way of specifying notifications to be sent to the watch only when the screen is off?
@andrewpmoore - just wondering if you'd be able to provide LightFlow with detailed notifications from Gmail - with other apps that push notifications to the SmartWatch like Watchify, it's possible to push the contents of whole email on the smartwatch. Can Lightflow be set up to do this?

Yes it should be possible, I use it myself. If you enable "Gmail, all notifications" then it should pick the email text up. The label specific notifications don't (as the information isn't available when monitoring that way) so I use label specific notifications for getting different lights but have Gmail all notifications enabled with the led off and the option only set on that to push to the watch.

Thanks heaps for that, will give that a go - also, I've noticed a few 'false' notifications when I open a Messenger window, or sometimes it doesn't pick up multiple messages, is there any reason this happens?
I'm trying to find the 'ultimate' Sony SmartWatch notification app, and at the moment I'm using a combination of Watchify and WatchIt! to do different things.

I dont find this "gmail all notifications" option, i have to choose one label always. Where is this option showed?
I just got a sony smartwatch 2 and i started playing around with it.
It made me happy to read, that lightflow is able to send notifactions to the smartwatch.
Unfortuneatly I can't get it to work.
I checked the Setting "send to sony smart devices" but no notification is showing up on my smartwatch 2. I've already re-installed Lightflow, but nothing changed.
Can somebody help me ?
Hello, I have a question because I'm a bit confused. Does LightFlow support notification clearing from the Sony SW2 to the phone?
I mean, when I get a notification in Lightflow on SW2, if I read it on SW2, is it automatically cleared on the phone as well?
The app description does not tell this, and I could not find any relevant information.
I even contacted the developers of Lightflow but their response did not really made thing more clear:
Hi
With the pebble watches it doesn't clear them but on the sony watch it should. I've got an original SW1 for development and got the two way communication working between notifications.
Cheers
Andrew

Hello, I've been using your Light Flow Lite app on my Nexus 5 and I love it. But I also have a Sony SW2 smartwatch and I saw that the full app supports sending notification to the SW2. Unfortunately from the reviews of the app I understand that the app does not sync the read status of the notification on the smartwatch to the phone. More simply, when I read the notification on the smartwatch I want the notification to be automatically cleared on the phone, otherwise you would need to clear each notification two times. Is this possible from a technical point of view? Is it a planned feature? Because it's the only thing keeping me from buying your full app. Thank you. All the best.

Can anyone provide more information?, screenshots would help. Maybe there are some settings I did not see ?
Thanks.
Hello all,
this is my first post here in Z1C section, just bought it a few days ago. I have an issue with calendar notifications or at least I think it shouldn't function like this. Before I was using HTC Desire Z with various custom roms (Cyanogen, Slim ROM, etc) and didn't face that issue
The problem is that if I have some events planned, after the timing of the event passes, notification disappears or maybe only last one is visible (earlier one becomes replaced by current)
While using Desire Z I could always see in notification bar information with all current and earlier calendar notifications (even if it was from for example 2 days earlier) and I could browse through them until I dismissed / edited / deleted (or whatever) any of them.
(one notification with current reminder, underneath a message that there are for example 5 more reminders)
Is this normal behaviour, do you also this issue? Is there any fix to have that functionality on Z1C or do you have any idea what could cause this? I'm using latest 14.3.A.0.757 compilation from Sony, phone is rooted.
I would like to stay (at least for now) with original firmware. If you use custom rom and do not face this issue that would be a major point for me to consider switching I guess
Thanks in advance for any input on this!
ps. I have also tried a few other apps including Google Calendar, Cal: Any.do, problem occurs with every one of them.
Expired events ARE visible, more than last one, they only are in dimmed grey text color.
Would be good to be able to modify those colors, but I can live with it as is.
It isn't a direct solution, but maybe you'll find this app useful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2969613
Thank you for your input on the matter. I switched to Business Calendar few months ago, multiple notifications work flawless there. Also this is the best calendar app that I've found so far and I highly recommend it.
Which exactly?
There are more than one on Google Play.
