Anybody use easy mode? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I just got to thinking, in the home screen tab on tw based roms there is a choice. Basic mode, and easy mode. Do you, or someone you know use the easy mode home screens?
I looked at easy mode and thought "dang, who uses this thing". Maybe one of you knows...

Easy mode is for the simplest and basic android expirence. Our phone has too many features for us to use in Basic mode. Its mainly for users wit No android experience or hard at seeing.

When I setup my dad's Note 2, I left it in easy mode.
He's happy as clam with the phone, never question about extra functionality. All he ever wants is make calls and take notes.

Qualcomm mode

I seen to remember some getting there computer to see the KIN as a Qualcomm device, but cant find the thread. Anyone remember how, I saw something at another forum I was gonna try since I don't mind bricking my phone.

Hey are you talking about when you go to your phone app and call ##77647266488 and then enter the default code 000000.
Followed by selecting the option "field test menu" and then swiping 3 pages to the right and scrolling down untill you see the data service option which lists either Pre 707, Qualcomm, or IS 707. (Your device should already be set to IS 707. But you can change it to Qualcomm.
Hope this helps you
No I was talking about when it's plugged into your computer and it's recognized as a Qualcomm device instead of a kin. No one ever seemed to remember and I don't have a kin anymore all its no help now, but I'm thinking about picking one up to play with.... So well see.

Just follow what Zachman690 said and it will go into qualcomm mode. You need the driver i believe in windows, but in linux it will show up if you do the command lsusb.

I understand that but when you connect it to a computer it still says kin two there was a button combo that entered into a Qualcomm mode....like a bootloader and it was recognized by saying something like Qualcomm device.
Unless of course that will do it. I don't have a kin anymore to test this out.

Hmmm....The only thing as far as a button combo that might put it into qualcomm mode is :
Enter Ms Pink Bootstrap mode (aka SBL mode)
Hold L+S+ Power
Prints nothing, enters SBL mode
I don't have windows installed on my pc so can't really try it out.As far as i know changing it in the settings will for sure put it in qualcomm mode.
These were the other key combo's johnkussack figured out:

If you don't mind me asking, what were you planning on trying once you have it set to that?I noticed ebay sells them fairly cheap.I wanted to grab up a couple to tear apart and get the movinand chip off it.Still trying to figure out some ways to access this phone.

It probably won't work, but I was willing to try anything since I didn't mind bricking it. I haven't checked Ebay, but there are done on craigslist for cheap here.burgee thing is I'm not a dev I just research and try different things so don't want to invest to much. Kin phone flashing
Sounds like a good idea except maybe for a couple things. The tutorial talks about how you need to have access to the parition, but we haven't been able to get anywhere near the system data really.I think the paritions are still locked and need the SBK to have access to whatevers on there.(Nvflash)Not to put your idea down or anything, but thats just how far we got.
http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-in...th-interop-unlock-on-nokia-lumia-800-and-710/
If we could have access to the partitions we could do a full rom dump.We need to figure out the secure boot key somehow for when we use nvflash.I can see what you were saying about trying to get into the qualcomm mode though. If we can do that, then there is a chance this would work.I had another idea too,but not sure if it would work.
I think it was qualcomm mode set through the secret menu and i had it connected through bitpim and it came up as a serial connection in linux. My thought was that maybe if we made this cable we could have access to the efs.Not really sure though cause i remember someone talking about e-fuses on here when trying to access it through bitpim. Here is the guide though of what i wanted to try:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Android-G1-Serial-Cable/
Besides that i know they have movinand chip reader/writers but they are crazy expensive! Also i read somewhere it might be possible to hook the chip to the guts of a sd card and read it like that.I posted a topic on the general forum in hopes this project would get more attention.I would really hope one day to have android on this phone or apps/games at the least.

Ya, I'll be honest I just skimmed that page and was gonna look further when I knew how to get into Qualcomm mode.
The cable is a good idea it seems similar to using the factory data cable on my Razr to save a bricked device it very well coughs work.
Like I said I don't have one anymore, but a little nostalgia locked in and I want to see this phone running like it should.so I may pick one up to mess with and if I can help you with anything let me know and I'll try....even iris just bricking my phone trying something.

[Q] Where to start/What to expect: Verizon Gnex

I'm tired of my LG Cosmos 2, despite the requirement of a data plan I'm getting an Android Phone. Since this phone has many of the features I like, Especially the unlocked bootloader, I'm 98% going for a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.
I'm not brand new to android, but I do have a few questions about this phone mainly because of the three variants (GSM,Sprint,Verizon)
1. Does the Verizon Version have a fully unlocked bootloader still? Is there any other carrier locking based crap that they've thrown in to limit people?
2. Is this an essentially 'unbrickable' phone, by unbrickable I mean that (Like my ASUS TF101 tablet for instance) there is a separate 'APX' or download mode that lets me reflash firmware on it's own. (Like ODIN or NvFlash)
3. How many kernels are out there and what are your personal favorites/stability on those, or should I stick with stock? (opinion)
4. What are some of my Recovery choices, such as TWRP or Rouge or CWM, is there a touch interface that also has volume buttons?
5. If anyone's running AOKP, it's my favorite ROM on my Transformer, how's the Stability on the Gnex?
Thanks,
ToD
Tl;DR: Does Verizon put any locks/limits/crap extra on the phone, is there Download/APX mode, and what are some Recovery/Rom/Kernel choices I have?
1) still unlocked
2) there's fastboot and odin.
3) depends on what you want in a kernel. make sure you pick one from the verizon section
4) TWRP and CWM are it i believe - both have touch versions
5) i run it and its quite fine.

1: yes fully unlocked!
2: Yes with ODIN
3: a lot of kernels. My favorite kernel is Franco's kernel. Haven't had any problems with it and very smooth!
4: unsure about the available recoveries, but I use cwm touch.
5: AOKP is awesome. Very stable and great features.
There is a good poll in the gnex general discussion about roms and a good discussion on kernels. I don't have the links. Those helped me when I first started out though. you could search for them there.

One thing to expect from Verizon's version is dropped calls and your mic going out on you. There is currently no fix and there may not be one. Since the S3 is coming out I think Verizon gave up on the issue. Anyone can go into a store and trade the phone across the table for something else.

Thank you for the responses (I'll be sure to hit the button when my cooldown refreshes )
I'm more of a texter than a talker, so the mic thing isn't terribly important, and I use a BT headset.
(If it's a Stock ROM problem, I'm going to be on the stock ROM for only about 15 mins when I root and put a Custom ROM on, The Transformer has made me despise and avoid stock... lol)
Thanks

Is there an equivalent ROM?

I found this ROM:
http://www.gearengine.it/?page_id=2
...and would LOVE to run it on my AT&T GSIII but it says they're running it on the international version. I was planning on giving it a shot anyway but, while I'm working on rooting, I'd ask a few questions.
Think it'd work on the AT&T version?
If not, is there an equivalent ROM that will?
I want to keep ALL the stock functionality...camera wise, hardware wise (NFC, Bluetooth, etc) yet still getting the customization that that ROM afforded (I loved the Aroma installer, the inverted apps, etc) while running an overclock/undervolt kernel so I can juice this thing!
What are you guys running?!
One word of advice would be not to flash an international ROM on your AT&T device. I think that would lead to a brick.
Do some reading in the development sections to familiarize yourself with the basics.

I have to agree. I actually just commented in a thread before coming across this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056655
Foxhound was flashed to their device, and their device was hard bricked. Please do not flash i9300 ROMs to US device variants.
I am currently running cm10.0.0 stable. It runs like a dream, not one issue with it so far. I would not recommend the new cm10.1 nightly builds until the data problem is fixed however.
LOL!!!
Well...this website was down for a few and I though ah hell, why not.
smh
Never actually heard of anyone hard bricking a phone. Awesome. This rounds out my Android experience nicely. Just as dude says, it doesn't do a damn thing. No power, not light, no vibration, nothing.
I can't believe there's no way to fix something like this. I'm all around amazed...I must say.
But yea...so...AT&T I go in the morning to test my acting skills I guess. *shrug*
And the Aroma installer was SO COOL!!!! What a shame...
Had I known the consequences could be so dire...

Very sorry to hear your luck =( Good luck at AT&T... Don't let this deter you from future ROM flashes, just make sure you are flashing the correct GS3 variant. If you are on AT&T your device is model# i747 and the codename is d2att when flashing ROMs.
I didn't need too many acting skills, I just told them I woke up in the morning and my phone would no longer turn on. They swapped it out pretty quickly =) My hard brick came from a CWM flash when I was inexperienced at flashing. (I came from an iPhone... bleh). I had used a terminal emulator and used some commands to install CWM. Big mistake. I then followed Cyanogenmod's WIKI on installing CWM and it worked like a charm. =)
Of course, in my opinion, nothing beats TWRP recovery installation... Step 1: Download Goo Manager from the PlayStore. Step 2: Click menu and "Install OpenRecovery Script" Step 3: Wait for your phone to reboot into recovery =)
Well now that I'm done with my tangent, I think I'm heading to bed for the night lol. Good luck at the AT&T store tomorrow! ...and have a Happy Holiday! =)

Hey...it's all good man. I've been in the Android game since the G1 and STILL I'm getting firsts. LOL!!! I will ALWAYS hack, tinker and tweak. That's the fun of it...this included.
I KNEW it was the wrong version. However...what I DIDN'T know was the likely outcome! Had no idea. Only ever heard of hard bricks as a mythical monster-like sorta thing. Through my G1 days, GS days, HTC Doubleshot, HTC One S and AAAAAAAAAAALL the devices I've rooted and ROM'd in between (my tablets and who knows how many friend's devices), I've never seen or had a true hard brick happen. Had a close call sorta with the ex-wife's GS, but I fixed it.
Honestly didn't think this was something that could ACTUALLY happen!!!

I have been with Android through the GS1, GS2, and now GS3. I totally agree with you. I have done some really stupid stuff, but have always been able to fix the problem, mostly from help from this forum.
It may be just me, but it seems that it is a lot easier to brick the GS3 than its predecessors. Not from personal experience (knock on wood), but from reading through these forums.
Let us know what happens at the AT&T store. As an aside, does anyone ever know what happens in the long run when you turn in a hard brick to AT&T and get it replaced? I would imagine that once they JTAG it they would see that it was flashed. Could they charge you for the device?

That is a fantastic question. I was concerned about that myself the first time it happened. From my experience I was never charged when I went into the store to do the exchange. No bills came later in regards to it either. I think its pretty safe, but I wouldn't make any guarantees.
I also agree with you in that the GS3 seems a lot easier to brick than other phones I've dealt with.

Well...they gave me another one. Couldn't get another red one like I wanted since they didn't have any in stock which kinda sucks so I got the blurple one. Looks cool.
Obviously, I can't agree with the comments on the GSIII's resistance to bricking since I had something happen with this device that I've never seen or even HEARD of anyone doing. lol But it's all good. Time to start tinkering again.
Think I'm going to go the CM10 route since that is apparently a good ROM. However...does everything work with it? NFC and all? And...is there an OC/UV kernel that is compatible with that ROM?
As far as what they do with it after, I don't really know. I had to take it back to Best Buy since that's where I got it and it was so soon after getting it. I only had the thing...for...like...4 hrs when it got killed. lol I would imagine that they have the resources to easily fix a device that has had this happen. If they didn't replace it, I was just going to make a JIG for it (http://www.androidnova.org/unbrick-your-hard-bricked-smartphone/).
Thanks for all the help, guys!!!
Well...I didn't kill it. lol
So...first setup I tried:
ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684
Kernel - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
My ratings, out of 10?
Look and feel: 7...I only give it so low since it's EXACTLY the same as the HTC One S ROM I was running. This is usually a good thing but I was wanting something different.
Functionality: 4...every time I send a text, the damn thing says it didn't send! But it does! Very strange, very annoying, very unusable.
Customizability: 12...it's an AOKP ROM...with the Nova launcher...there are a mind bending number of options. I love it!
Quadrant score: 3...What the hell is an overclocked, current gen phone juiced to over 2.1GHZ doing getting ~3600 pts in quadrant? EXTREMELY disappointing.
Final words: Running Android 4.2...awesome. I love being cutting edge, but there isn't anything really awe-inspiring about it aside from the Jelly Bean 4.2 but the text messaging problem is just insurmountable.
Next is going to be this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949025
Going to keep the kernel and we'll see what happens! I'll let you know!
Glad it worked out. =) Just a heads up 4.2 has a lot of common bugs with it being so new. That texting problem is among many. Bluetooth issues, USB MTP issues, internal/external storage swapped, mobile data and WiFi issues to name a few.. I'd recommend sticking to 4.1 unless you don't mind the above annoyances. =p They will get ironed out soon enough I'm sure. =)

Back to the other I go!
Can anyone recommend a ROM that is as customizable as the AWESOME AOKP ROMs but still retain a bit of the Samsung-ness? Like...I like having the burst shot in the camera, the cool gesture and motion stuff they have, etc. Is there a middle ground?

Checkout NexusMOD in the development forum. Its a touchwiz ROM with AOSP messaging and email. You can still run Nova Launcher if you want, and holo locker if you don't want the TW lock screen.
I'm still tinkering and trying different ROMs. Downloading LiquidSmooth right now, can't find the NexusMOD one mentioned and I just tryed to flash an AOKP ROM and it wouldn't flash.
I SO BADLY want the 4.2 to work. I LOVE it!!! The Camera (wish it had HDR and multi shot modes, though), the stock messenger, LOCK SCREEN WIDGETS...it's just awesome.
I'm with you all the way rmp5s(except the bricking part), I want this ROM sooo bad. It's stockish which I like, yet has a lot of mods, any word yet on it coming to I747?

ummm, anyone?
I saw it once on stock after playing with it in response to this post. What are you running? You don't say.

I'm running Stock ROM as well; No Root
Could this issue be software-related? I read a couple of posts similar to mine on the N7100 forum (International)
I know this is off-topic, but are the whites on your Note 2 pure white? I seem to have a yellowish-tint when going on sites like Google. When I look at the display from a different angle; it appears White as it should. From a far-distance, I can see lack of uniformity in white color on my display; faint horizontal lines are visible (not always). Do you see the same on yours?

None of the custom roms i've flashed have shown this

stock kernel management control

I haven't had any luck in figuring out an solution to an issue. Maybe someone may have a suggestion to try.
Basically, I'm having an issue with the phone not waking up (coming out of standby). It'll be
I'm running a stock deoxidized rooted (and I think deknoxed because I'm not finding any knox files, but just one directory) NE2 (Android 4.4) rom. The rom is pretty stable with an occasional ramdon reboot.
The problem seems to be tied to WiFi Tether Router. Nice application. The issue only occurs when running this application. It worse when running another application at the same time, which in my case is SiriusXM. From their FAQ section (linky, it looks like it could be an issue of the phone going into some kind power saving management mode. I do not have Power Save mode on. My other guess is there could be a memory leak, but it's beyond my knowledge how to determine if true or not. Although, I do think it's most likely a power management issue because I've other apps stop functioning when in standbye. Sometimes it'll wake up right away hitting the home or power button. Other times, I need to pull or plug a charger to trigger the wake up. Other times, it can take up to 15 minutes. At worse, I have to do a battery pull.
I was thinking maybe I could change the kernel, but don't know of any kernels that are compatible with the stock NE rom. Ultimately, I was to try to change the governor to performance or increase the clock speed. But I think this may not be feasible because, if memory serves me well, those functions need to be build into the kernel.
I would try maybe going ASOP, but I do use a few things that, as far as I know, aren't possible with with them such as screen mirroring. I also don't like some of the have GPS lock issues; I had when I tried an ASOP I had this and a bigger issue. So it's more I don't think it'll meet my needs and wants.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Try out chaz'es stock rom. I've been using it for 2 weeks no reboots. There is a hot spot mod that you can flash also no app needed.

Thanks for the reply. I tried the hotspot mod on 4.3 and tried it once, and it Sprint noticed. Maybe it was the rom or a bad flash. Just quirky.

There's is a mod specifically for the NE2 update. I would post a link but am on my phone. The mod works great. I haven't had any long term use so I don't know if it notifies sprint.

I"ve used Hotspot mods in the past, so it's not that I'm against them by any means. Just a bit sketchy at the moment. The time I spoke, Sprint sent me a text and a letter about TOS violation. And it wasn't that long ago, so just being a bit careful that's all.
Plus, the last time, I'm not sure if it was the mod, the rom, mod download, or bad flash. Personally, I think it may have been the rom and rom flash. The 4.3 stock rom I used wasn't very stable. A lot of reboots.
With my situtation, I just thinking if I can get the phone not to go into whatever standby or powersave mode when the displays shuts off, would be best. Right now, I'm just not having the display go off, which I really don't like. But I know quite a bit development on the this variant of the GN2 is limited and becoming and less and less everyday. I know others keep more up this stuff than me, thus is why I asked.
As annoying as it may be, I can deal with a little while till my contract ends, which is very soon. Than it's just waiting for the GN4 to release and see what it has, compared to other similar phablets, and the WiFi hotspot to be hacked.

Well try a ne2 (4.4.2) rom. Chaz's almost stock rom or my Community 3.2/3.2+ rom and things will be much better as far as usability. Mk4 (4.3) was a garbage release from Samsung. All Samsung devices have issues with 4.3 which is why so many got the 4.4.2 update.
Now about the hotspot. Well I would just stay away from that if I were you. As sprint said it is a TOS violation unless you pay extra for the service.

I'm currently on a stock deoxidized NE2 (4.4.2) ROM. In fact, it may be the same one your referred to by Chaz. I read 4.3 is a mix bad of good and terrible. I waited as long as I could before going to 4.3. If I wasn't having an issue the NHL Center Ice app, I would still be on 4.1.2. 4.3 was always rebooting. I think it had memory leaks.
Right now, the dealing the screen thing is more slightly annoying and inconvenient. It's an issue known by the WiFi Tether Router developer. Even if there was a kernel I could use to do what I want, doesn't necessarily mean my issue would be resolved, since I'm slightly guessing what the problem is.
My thinking too on the hotspot mod. I use way too much data to end up using another mobile service provider. The sent a text saying there was an issue. I had to call Sprint to find out what it was. Since I called and got the letter, I figure I don't have much leeway right now.
