My KF gets stuck in cyanogen boot logo when 1. KF suddenly turns off or 2. Battery becomes low. I need to reflash it just for it to work again. PLEASE HELP any idea?

Plug the device into a power source
Hold the power button for 10 seconds to shut it off
Let it charge

no, the issue is more complicated than that.
Here's a scenario, for example i'm using it still @ 60% battery, then suddenly it will shut-off, when i try to re-start it it won't boot properly, it get stuck in the cyanogen logo, it seems some file gets corrupted, the only for it to work again is to reflash. (which im getting tired off )

I see.
There was a user a while back that ended up with the eMMC bug and had to repartition his device to skip over the bad blocks. In doing so, he didn't allocate enough space for a proper cache partition (something like 150MB, I believe) and his device would do the exact same thing.
I would suggest clearing your cache and see if that helps. You may have to do a true wipe though, because I don't think a wipe in custom recovery will cut it.
You might want to check the cache, system, and boot partitions for bad blocks while you're at it.

Try other ROM

Did I just BRICK my G Nexus?

So, last night I was out and about - just having a good time. Noticed that the battery on my GSM Galaxy Nexus was getting low. Went "Meh, wasn't the first time it's died." It got to 1% battery power and shut-off, like it normally does. Me being who I am, I turned it back on to see just how much more juice I could get out of it.
Phone booted up alright. Finished the boot animation, and then a couple seconds later turned off.. not a big deal. I get home, plug it in, and the charge screens cycle..... and then they cycle again. And again. And again. Basically just looping. I turn the phone ON, finishes the boot animation and... turns off again riight away? Goes back to the charge screen loop.
I'm not talking about the regular charge screen. After the battery gets 'filled' twice, it completely restarts. Black screen for 2 or so seconds, and then it goes through the charge animations as it would if you had just pluggied it in. I CAN get into bootloader, but that's about it. I'm just curious.. has anyone seen this before? Or know what my problem might be?
I'm unable to turn USB Debugging on in the system settings, so I'm at a loss as to how I can fix this issue WITHOUT bringing it into Bell.
Try going into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik. If that doesn't work reflash your rom
My phone is completely stock (I reflashed it to to the stock yakju? I believe it was when I found out Samsung had screwed people off the google update path.. so I can't get into recovery mode. It just shows the broken android. It's all been re-locked, and since then, my laptop has died. So I no longer have the ABD/Samsung drivers setup. Which was a pain to get going the first time..

The "Broken android" IS stock recovery. I believe that when you push Volume Up seeing that image it takes you to the stock recovery menu. But you can always reflash Yakju or any other ROM through fastboot mode (see the tutorials here on the forum).

Turn it off. Leave it charging for a few hours before turning it on.

You do not need to have USB debugging enabled to use fastboot.

It doesn't take long at all to install the drivers. Look for a thread with "universal" in the title. I think it is in GN General. Once you do install the fastboot driver, download the fastboot.exe file and reflash the stock ROM.

The problem I have is that the charge animation doesn't change... i.e. It'll constantly refill the battery and all, but it always starts from the bottom (While when a phone is say... half charged, the little battery is half filled and the animation continues.
I'm not sure it's even charging at all.
Update time!
Got it into the stock recovery. Wiped the cache and all of my data. Rebooted, and.... it turns on! No longer reboots on regular startup. That's the good news. So at least it's somewhat useable now..
Now for the BAD news.
-It still does that retarded charging bootloop that doesn't seem to get me anywhere
-....When it's on. Like, running, it doesn't charge. Nadda. Zip. Zilch. Computer, wall charger, android dock, nothing. It just won't charge when it's on. However when I got it to power on, it said I had 14% remaining - which means it was likely charging inside the Bootloader, as I had it on that for quite a bit.
I think this just went from a software to a hardware issue. Thoughts?

Power down phone, do a long battery pull, place it inside again, let it charge for a few hours without powering it on, when it is fully charged (or after a few hours) pull battery again and then take charger out the phone. After a few minutes, place battery inside phone again and start it up without the charger.
Hope that works.

Battery test
I am having a similar problem, I get the boot loop.
Difference is that I had started with a new battery so that could be your problem or unrelated. I went to a mobile shop yesterday and they let me use a new battery to see if the loop would start. It did not so there seems to be at least one other failure path. I have avoided a factory reset as I was hoping to pull some pictures but coming to the realization that I will have to try factory reset as a last resort
I posted to this thread #192
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1490815
My Galaxy Nexus phone from WIND went into a reboot loop yesterday. It had been charged to 98%, used to make a call and then put away. Wireless was enabled. Noticed vibration periodically and say it was rebooting every 6 - 7 seconds. Pulled battery to stop reboot. Saw references to fully charged battery via USB stops reboot loop so tried that. Battery voltage was 4.17V and still went into reboot loop.
Tried to boot into safe mode but still goes into a loop
I went into recovery mode and tried all options but factory reset because I am hoping to recover some pictures
reboot system now
apply update from cache (but did not have an update to install as only options were ../ lost+found/ recovery and when I selected these was in a loop as well)
wipe cache partition
Can't tell what version of Andorid I have as the phone never finishes booting.
Boot console gives the following information
Product Name – tuna
Variant – maguro
HW version – 9
Bootloader version – PRIMEKK14
Baseband version – I9250UGKL1
Have installed SMS backup because I was planning to do a backup after a trip. Also have two GPS tracker apps installed.

If you can boot into recovery, you may be able to get your pictures off your device.
1) Make sure you have the drivers for your device properly installed on your computer.
2) Download the attachment and unzip it to a directory on your computer.
3) Open a command prompt in the same directory.
4) Reboot your device into recovery and plug into your computer.
5) Make sure your computer sees your device by typing: adb devices
6) Pull the data off your device by typing: adb pull /data/media
Note: depending on how much data you had on /sdcard, this could take a while, so be patient.

Seems like a boot loop condition

Hi Folks,
I was setting up my "old", rooted and S-Off Incredible for our son to play games when travelling, etc. - it's no longer registered on Verizon's network, but is fine for wireless and downloaded apps.
After charging the battery and installing about 47 app updates today (i.e., it hasn't been booted in awhile), I was tinkering around with adding some apps from Play and it suddenly rebooted. Then, it kept booting at the white HTC logo screen.
So, I pulled the battery and decided to go back to Verizon stock, using the image from here:
http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/
Essentially, I booted into HBOOT, went into CWM Recovery, wiped appropriate storage, then rebooted back into HBOOT after putting the above image onto the root of my SD card. Maybe I don't need to wipe storage for a RUU, but it's habit by now.
HBOOT installed the RUU image after it prompted for a Yes/No and the Incredible booted with that old, "DROID!!" startup (gosh, didn't miss that) and showed the initial lock screen.
I pulled down the lock and started only a few seconds into phone initialization when it rebooted.
Now, it reboots as early as the HTC logo screen or gets to the lockscreen and reboots on its own after a second or two.
Seems like a boot loop, but I just installed a new RUU - so . . . I'm wondering if this is a deeper issue.
Ideas on how to go about fixing this rebooting problem are welcome, please. Is it possible that my half-completed Play install - i.e., just before it began this symptom - crunched a file system that needs to be fixed up?
Thanks,
- ooofest
Do you get any kind of errors wiping data or cache from recovery? The play install wouldn't have botched up the filesystem but the reboot could have led to corruption in /data. The cause of reboot I wouldn't know without logs. Try pulling the logcat during the boot loop which may or may not work on stock. I seem to doubt it as stock doesn't have USB debugging on by default.

Hi tiny4579, I had no errors wiping data or cache within CWM that were visible to me. I agree that USB debugging is not likely enabled by default.
If we assume there's a /data corruption as one angle to go with, should I try wiping and reinstalling the RUU again? I could attempt to put on a custom ROM instead, particularly one with USB debugging enabled (if that exists). HBOOT currently shows Locked and S-Off.
Thanks,

If data wipe was fine I'm not sure. To test USB debugging flash something like cm7. I think it uses an insecure boot.img meaning USB debugging aka adb should be on by default.

Using HBOOT 0.92
Installed CWM 5.0.2 via PB31IMG.zip route
Wiped all available storage areas/paths - no errors shown
Installed cyanogenmod 7.2 from the SD card
On bootup, I saw the CM 7.2 boot screen (i.e., a circling arrow) for about one minute, then it rebooted. And rebooted. And rebooted. So, I'm back to rebooting at the HTC logo screen.
Consider me baffled - this phone was working great yesterday until after updating 47 apps (got a "low space" message at one point, started deleting apps while others were still installing) trying to install another app from Play store. Ideas, perhaps?

Yeah, it tends to get beyond the HTC logo screen after a new ROM install, but usually reboots as soon as I see the notification for "preparing internal storage".
Afterwards, it tends to reboot at varying times - sometimes at the HTC logo, other times it gets past OS startup and reboots after a few seconds.
. . .
EDIT: I just rebooted and . . . now it suddenly booted into CM and is working normally. What the heck?!
I'm not a CM person and would like to install another ROM to see what happens after that - do you think the phone EMMC is starting to go, perhaps?

You might want to format the internal emmc and sdcard as the reboots could be related to filesystem. Grab /proc/last_kmsg if you want me to check.

Thanks, I couldn't find a last_kmsg to pull, but I wiped all storage available (including emmc and sdcard), then reinstalled the latest RUU for a test.
Bootup went OK until it rebooted again soon after getting to the Gingerbread lockscreen. Oh well.
I decided to try going back to CM7 since it actually booted after a time, so reapplied CWM 5.0.2 and then started to format storage again. When trying to format /system I got a 5 vibrate error.
I've gone through various combinations of reapplying the RUU, adding CWM, trying to wipe storage, etc. and I keep hitting the 5 vibrate shutdown at various points. I couldn't wipe /system without getting the 5 vibrate issue twice, then it worked the third time, etc.
Just now, I was in CWM and merely navigating the menu to go into "mounts . . ." and it 5 vibrated again. Ow.
My suspicion above keeps coming back to me: is my hardware potentially going?

Yeah, I started charging again to see if that might help, and I've been booting up with it plugged in, too.
Could a battery still be the problem, even plugged in? That is, would a short of some kind be limiting how much could be drawn from the plug?
Wish I did, but don't have another battery on hand.

Even when plugged in the power is going thru the battery, so it could still be the problem. Just a sugestion, may have nothing to do with it at all.

Interestingly, I let it "cool down" for a bit and charge from the wall instead of USB, then was able to wipe all storage, install CM7 and it booted up fine.
So, I let it sit for a bit longer, wiped again and installed the latest stock RUU. This time, it took longer to boot and came up fine - I now have a relatively stock (except for S-Off) Incredible, again.
From your suggestion, I'll shop for another battery and see if a new one helps to keep the sudden reboots at bay.
Thanks.

Hi Folks,
After working this for some days, my Droid Incredible with AMOLED display still gets into a reboot or boot-loop condition after a random amount of time of continuous use. Almost as if it heats up or something in its memory mgmt is flaky.
It can take new ROMs, recoveries, HBOOTs, radios, etc. - but, regular use just brings up the boot condition too easily, so I can't give it to my kid as a simple gaming device. I tried a new battery in case that might be the issue, but the condition still persists. Pulling the battery and waiting 10+ minutes usually allows it to work again, until the next reboot cycle starts up.
This phone is running the latest RUU and is also S-Off.
So, I'd like to give it away to the first person who requests it.
I'm not offering a trade or purchase, but if someone wants this phone to use/test/etc. with, just PM me and we can plan on a quick dropoff in NY/NJ/CT area or I'll send it to your continental USA address with both batteries and no explicit or implied warranties, guaranties, liabilities or claims of operating performance, etc.

[Q] JellyTime gets stuck on bootanimation

Hi, I have been running JellyTime 4.2 R11 for few weeks now on my S-OFF Desire HD.
Today, I noticed that the light was blinking and battery was low 6%, so I decided to put it into charger, and somehow when I connected it soon I accidently disconnected the charger, and when I put it back, the phone probably crashed or something, since it went black and the white screen with HTC logo appeared and it started to boot again. Now, JellyTime tries to boot, the bootanimation goes fine for sometime but then it gets stuck after "playing" the bootanimation for a while, nothing happens, even if I wait 5 minutes, it's stuck, bootanimation is frozen, no matter do I have the charger connected or not.
So, is there anything I could do, or is reflashing the only solution? I did full wipe when I flashed the ROM.
If you need more information, sure, just ask.
You could try dirty flashing, but if that doesn't work you'll have to reflash.

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't help, gets stuck still on bootanimation.
Time to full wipe and flash it again then. Wipe&FlashTime

I did battery pull several times considering that the phone refused to shutdown even when holding the power button for 10 secs, so battery pull was needed every time.
Anyway, it's now running fine when I reflashed.

I have the same problem since a crash on opening the outlook-email App (JellyTime 4.2 R9).
I found, that the "data" partition causes the trouble when booting. Formating the "data" partition with "4ext recovery" fixes boot-freezing. But this is not an option for me as my last (working) backup is a couple of months ago (yes, I know - should backup more frequently...).
I was able to backup the up-to-date "data" partition (with 4ext recovery) but when restoring it (even on an fully wiped and updated system) boot sequence freezes again.
Any ideas???
Many thanks!
Solved the problem with the data-backup. Instead of restoring complete partition the APP "AppExtractor" works fine for restoring data of the partition backuped.
For now, system runs perfectly.
Conclusion:
If system hangs in Boot-Animation use Recovery for backup of up-to-date system. Full wipe system and install ROM of your choise. After that restore SMS, contacts, etc. with "AppExtractor". Apps should be installed from PlayStore as far as possible. "AppExtractor" allows restoring of app, data+app, data.

T999 Won't boot/start

Didn't find anything similar on here so I had to post. My T999 no longer boots except for a vibrate when the battery is removed and re-inserted. Occasionally it will get to the CM boot logo and then the screen goes off. If I time the button presses right, I get to the Download screen but before I can hit the Up button to confirm download mode the screen shuts off. This happened all of a sudden yesterday, the last activity being to shut off the Alarm. Tried charging but it will not get past the initial battery icon before the screen goes off. Tried replacing the battery but that didn't help. I also tried to follow the debrick instructions but it didn't help. I was running Vanir AOSP 4.4.4 with no issues until yesterday. The device does not register when connected to the PC using USB and the charger LED does not light up when plugged into charger/PC. My feeling is that something went wrong with the boot but I am unable to get into any usable screen to do anything. I had managed to brick a Samsung Vibrant before but I didn't have to struggle as much to debrick and ODIN back to stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm now without a phone .
Mine is also acting like that. It wont boot to any rom even stock ones. But i noticed that if i connect my charger it will boot to the homescreen. Sounds like a battery issue right? I also thought that but when i go to recovery, it did not shutdown after leaving it for a couple of minutes. I'm also baffled why it wont boot. I'll try to borrow other battery to test if it still the same.

Remove battery snd put back in. Does the device try to turn on by itself? If so you probably have a bad power button.

Done this using root66 but still the same. Now my phone went to worse. It wont get past the S3 logo in the boot screen and just shuts down followed by a vibrate. But if i connect my charger, it will continue and run as normal. My suspect might be a bad battery but the thing is it doesn't auto shutdown when is download mode or in recovery mode. Will try to borrow other battery and update if this fixes the problem.
This is pretty strange. Woke up to my phone with the Galaxy s3 boot logo. And it wouldn't go past it. Tried flashing different backups I had but none of them let me go past the boot logo. Flashed CM10 since my version of TWRP recovery is so old that it can't flash anything higher up, and it goes past the boot logo finally after 2 hours then goes to the cyanogen boot logo but doesn't go past that. I'm going to try with ODIN tonight.
Seems very strange that there are others that had this happen to them to. My phone has never done this before, and it happened randomly.
What does it mean if my phone doesn't boot past the logo with an odin to root66 file?
Edit: Nevermind seems to have worked... for now.
Edit 2: Okay so now it's stuck in an infinite loop where it boots past the logo, shows the android mascot then does an android is upgrading app 1 of 169 then goes back all over again. This is fun! Can anyone help?
Edit 3: Okay so I had to do a factory reset. Got it working now. Starting to get sick of the things I have to do to get updated firmware. Samsung needs to get their crap together!

Hopefully its just the battery.
Download mode may work because of how the battery reports to the os. If its going bad and reporting incorrectly that its low, it may trigger a shutdown. Whereas in download mode the os isn't running so its not reading the battery info the same way. Just a guess.

What does it mean if my phone doesn't boot past the logo with an odin to root66 file?

Just for future reference, factory resetting solves about 98% of boot hangs.
Still for both of you, id take this as a sign that you should make sure your backups are up to date. If something is failing you'll be glad you did!

Yeah factory reset unfortunately didn't work for me when I needed it before I had to ODIN to root66. But I was able to do a nandroid after I couldn't get it to boot and extract my sms from Titanium backup. What an awesome app, super thankful to that dev for making it.

Turns out it was the battery sir. I've tested it with another battery from 2 different phones and it worked fine. While the phone i tested with the defective battery didn't event get passed the samsung logo. I've suspected it might be having the low voltage causing the phone to shut down.
Anyways, after that i bought a new battery immediately and everything seems ok. thanks for the reply doc.

Remove battery snd put back in. Does the device try to turn on by itself? If so you probably have a bad power button.

I can confirm that it is likely a bad power button, I have tried everything including dismantling it and seeing if I could dislodge any dirt that may be causing the problem but it didn't work. Looks like I have to find a local repair shop or ebay to get it resolved. Anyone recommend a good place to get this fixed. Funds are limited
Im not sure exactly how difficult the repair is most people seem so do it themselves and have given indications that its pretty easy. You can find the part online for a few bucks.

Question BOOT LOOP

Hello all this night my cellphone got battery depleted and when i started to charged it it entered boot loop . Agents in OP say i need to wipe all my data but i can t afford to do that. Is there any chance i can extract data from the phone? pls i need help
There is no way to recover your data if you can't boot up your phone. That's the whole idea of security, to protect your privacy and data.
Also, make sure to ALWAYS make backups.
And is your battery now still depleted, it can't charge at all, or your phone is just not booting up completely?

Its just not booting battery is 100 % . My biggest problem is that the recovery is version 1.2 and the only option is to format data and not wipe cache....

And how much time passes before the phone goes "black" after it starts loading on the OP logo?
That sounds like a soft brick, and the only way is to either WIPE your phone as suggested by OP or re-Flash it with MSM tool which also wipes your data.
There is no way to recover your information from this stage.

As I said, if there would be an easy way for such, the phone's security would be useless in that case.
Your storage is encrypted, and without booting the ROM (decrypting your data) you can't access it. Not saying it's impossible in the real world, but not for "us".
Why not try booting twrp to see your files? If he's rooted, it might.. Or flashing boot.img...
Or, if you can not do either, when ur phone is trying to boot( red and white dots) try holding power only button after it has been spinning for 5 seconds or so. U might feel a vibrate and then let go of power button.
thats crazy mine is doing the same thing today, i let the battery deplete and now its bootlooping exactly the same

Because you can't boot TWRP on a locked bootloader, and neither is there a TWRP for A12 ROMs.
Hi Guys, i just have the same issue ...
Let me know if there is anything to do or if any OP service center can help before i click wipe data.
Hi all,
My 1P did this too, I ended up shutting it off by holding the power + volume UP button at the same time for some 10 seconds. After that it rebooted and seems to be working okayish. I still moved all my photos and important data to my harddrive after this just in case. Hope this is helpful at all!
