Try this. Also , are you sure it`s not rooted ? Verify if superuser is installed or get a file manager like Root Browser Lite and try to access root files.
I am sure it is not rooted. Il will compare tonight the file you provide with the ones I got.
If you want to root your gio just install a rom

Hi,
I have used latest update.zip files to root my GIO. Maybe the way I do is wrong.
I have installed ROM Manager, I have rebooted my GIO in system recovery mode. But in the bottom of the screen and before applying update.zip there is a message:
--- Appling Multi-CSC --
Can't access to '/system/csc/MST/system'.
I can apply update.zip without any error message but it does not root the phone.

dont unzip the file to root the phone...... just put it as it is on a sd card and follow the instructions you were given.
The First Step In Modification of you Gio is Rooting , everything starts from Rooting. Many Applications Require Root access for working.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to Root Samsung Galaxy gio
Download root gb updated.zip file. and copy to SD card (not in any folder)
1. Shutdown/Power Off your Gio.
2. Put your phone in recovery Mode(press: Home button + Power button toghether)
3. In recovery mode, select Update from SD-card(Use Volume keys to navigate and home button for enter).
4. Search for the root gb updated.zip file on your SD-card
5. Run the update
6. Reboot
Phone will be turned on , An App SuperUser will be added , its mean you successfully done rooting , now you must be thinking you have done rooting and nothing really changed, let me tell you my friends its the first step real thing begins after this , read the whole thread and you'll find much more things than you imagined.

I have found what is going wrong, /system is full so binaries cannot be copied ...
If you see superuser then your phone is rooted. You can install this app as a rooted phone can only have it. It is Titanium backup. And uninstall Rom Manager, its useless for this phone and can cause you trouble.
I guess superuser is not totally installed, /system is full and su command is not present in xbin

do you see superuser icon on your phone?
Yes I do, but there is no su command available and (just for ex.) ROM Manager says the phone is not rooted
How can I be sure the phone is rooted ?

There is an app called Root checker on the market, otherwise you can install apps like Titanium backup, coz if it is rooted then it will install this app.
I have installed Titanium backup and it says it cannot aquire root privileges ...
As I said /system is full so I guess there is not free space to copy binaries
Does anyone know how to clean up?

See if there is something you are skipping, make sure you have the latest PC drivers
Your not rooted. Reroot using odin 3.0.9 you might need to reinstall stock rom. If you read skynote thread your answer is there as well as download links... your welcome

Try it with TWRP
http://tinyw.in/16LP
I installed that but it is an image file and odin will not open an image file?
Is it the same instructions to run this as it is to run cwm?
It says it needs to converted to a .tar file. How do I do that?

The link I provided is for the tar file. If you downloaded it do not extract it.
Look here, end of the page

Maybe this doesn't apply to you, or maybe it's too late, but some flavors of Samsung Android 4.x have a file to restore stock recovery at boot.
With the phone rooted and a root capable file explorer like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer look in the /etc directory. If there is a file in there called install-recovery.sh rename it and then try re installing cwm or twrp.

openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar.EjYLF6

Ok so I got TWRP installed.
Next question, I have been out of the loop for a few years so how do I get the latest firmware? Right now I have Android Version 4.1.2 and baseband version I317UCAMH3.
Is that the latest for the galaxy note 2? I have att and its the SGH I317
I didnt even plan to f with my phone but the other day my phone glitched and erased 300 pictures and videos from my newborn daughter that I just had and I was so upset and trying to find a way to recover them, someone told me to root my phone and try disk digger... so far I have had no luck at all with recovering anything... totally sucks and I am soooo upset!

I assume you did not install a custom recovery???
If you did you need to download the right firmware package and load from the recovery.
You may try Odin 3.7 if you can manage to get into stock firmware upload.
Its not bricked - your recovery is probably a cwm - flash twerp if you want to install cm11 - or stock recovery..anyway cm11 is great but no phone...so not great for us 5100

Thw note cannot be detected anymore in pc. How do I flash or root again :3
Download and install Odin 1.85 next search the stock firmware for your model here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Get your Note into download mode ( Press and keep holding the Volume Down, Home and Power ) and connect it to your PC, Odin should "see" it the first slot under ID:slot should turn a different color if so you are in good shape, now put the Firmware you download from above mentioned site click PDA*button and select the downloaded .tar.md5 file, Important: In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are enabled. Also, ensure that the Re-partition checkbox is not enabled and hit start and let Odin do the rest and you should be up and running in no time and now you can start over from scratch

Just follow the method suggested by Raizen above. But there are two things I want to add:-
1. The drivers work successfully on windows 8 and 10. It's just that you have to turn off driver signature verification for a while. So don't worry if you have w8 or 10.
2. After flashing kitkat you will get a notification to update to Marshmallow and not lollipop.
P.s.- My opinion on Marshmallow- Everything's fine except the battery backup. I don't know if the issue has been resolved now. But I faced more than 30% drain overnight with location and WiFi off. I'm on CyanogenMod 12.1 now and I find it much better both in terms of battery backup and functionality.
Thanks guys. I will try it and let you know.

How-To Root and Remove Bloatware on the new QE1 Update:
1 ) Via ODIN/OTA/Smart Switch, install the new QE1 update (Firmware links available on SamMobile)
2) ODIN install the TWRP recovery 3.1.1 (TWRP link: https://dl.twrp.me/zenltetmo/)
3) Download the SuperSU zip onto your phone(SU link in this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72187304&postcount=5)
4) Enter recovery mode and install the SuperSU zip.
You will only get one boot with this zip. If you reboot while still rooted, you will get stuck in boot.
When your phone boots for the first time, you can install Titanium Backup and remove all the bloatware. DO NOT uninstall the Samsung Music app. the stock ROM cannot load without it!!!
When finished removing your apps, open the SuperSU app, go to settings and select Full Unroot. Your phone will reboot and should load normally.
If you ever need root again, repeat step 4 and use your initial boot for your root modifications.

I can't seem to Odin TWRP correctly. After the reboot, my phone just sits at the T-Mobile screen .... any suggestions?? I keep having to flash QA1 stock rom to get my phone back.
I did this yesterday and after I did the full unroot I got stuck in boot loop at the Galaxy s6 edge + screen. So I just used Odin to get back to normal.

I suggest using a different odin version. Try 3.07.
And it might sit on the TMobile screen longer than usual so I would give it at least 5 minutes.

I'd also like to know why this would be necessary. Removing the bloat would make it not possible to receive ota updates anyway, would it not?
Is this phone still rootable?

Why would it not be? All the tools and resources necessary are here, so unless you physically changed hardware in your device, you can still root it. Granted, you may not be rooted with the latest Android OS. But the point is, once the puzzle of root on a given device is solved, root is always available.

I asked because sometimes a new update will make a device unrootable
