I believe you will need a 3rd party file manager..es file explorer, root explorer..You need to enable root access and mount as read - write..I have never tried this method so do you're research..I did read in the slim bean thread that this method didn't work on the newest build, but I think that was because of other problems with the build..If you are really new to this, I would check other possible problems first..( do you have the correct modem for the ROM you are using )..The more info you give us the easier it is for us to help..Post you're ROM,kernel, modem. And I'll take a look.

If you are on 3.1 still like I am, I bet you are getting extremely frustrated when the Update notification keeps popping up (Where is that damn never ask me again button??!!)
Well here is the fix! I do not take responsibility if this breaks your xoom, computer, or your face
First try deleting the zip file out of your /cache/ folder (did not work for me)
Then try replacing your build.prop file with the following
***Please note this has been only tested on Tiamat 1.1 rom running Android 3.1****
Instructions:<
ADB:
Extract build.prop to your ADB folder
ADB Remount (should say successful)
ADB push build.prop system/
ADB Reboot
Using Root Explorer, make system writable
move build.prop and replace exisiting
Reboot.

because the update offers nothing that I don't already have on my rooted and heavily modified version of 3.1.
It takes to long for me to get everything set up just the way I like it, so until an update actually gives us anything worth while, I'm content staying "back" at 3.1, with all the bells& whistles. I can read & write to my sd,overclock, undervolt, read & write to external drives, etc.
What am I missing from 3.2?
-Killed my Swype installation, which was a deal-breaker for me.
I just removed the zip from cache, said instal update then hit cancel when it failed to reboot and haven't had it since
Thanks!

For those wanting to stop the OTA nag, I've found that Solarnz's fix (modpack 3) for the Moray ROM works on the stock ROM as well.

The file I posted was only for 3.1 Android systems. I would recommend restoring from a Nandroid backup, but if you do not have one you will need to jump on IRC so one of our genius's can assist you on restoring your original files.
I already applied this and I think it works.. Thank you very much...
Does anybody have an ODEX version of the EL30 Wifi Hotspot Hack? The only version available for it is a DEODEXED version.
I have just downloaded the CM9 bootable-from-SD EL30 rom (from here). It works totally fine, but I wanted to see if the EL30 hotspot hack will work, but it does not because the bootable rom is ODEXED.
Is there any solution to this? Because my default CM9 wireless hotspot does not work and I have already posted a Q&A here for people to help me troubleshoot and found no solution.
You could pull the files out of Sleeper Odexed ROM. You need settings.apk, framework.jar, services.jar and the corresponding odex files. That "should" work.

I will attempt this immediately. I will post back here with the results. Thank you for the suggestion!
Rather than start a new thread I will just post my question regarding it. I more just need some clarification on a couple of points.
Under warnings it says do not mount as USB storage. I am assuming that means only when you are booted up into the temp rom, not when you are in regular CM9 and just want to access your memory card. The second is you are installing a zip from sdcard. I assume as soon as I reboot in the temp rom I will boot back into CM9 correct? Then if I want to boot back into the temp rom I flash the boot_EL30.zip again?

Yes and yes. The temp ROM is really a tool to do a few tw things but not to be used like a full ROM. It is running from your sd card so mounting the sd card will crash it immediatelly.

Quick update:
I cannot copy over the hacked hotspot files into /system without the entire phone locking up into a crash. I believe this will be impossible unless I can find a way to copy over system files without having the temporary rom booted.
And at this moment, I don't know how to. Does anyone know how I can replace system files into this temporary rom?

You would have to do this while not running the temp ROM. Using root explorer copy them into the folders while running CM9 or whatever your normal ROM is that you are coming from.
Why? CM9 has a free built in hot spot.

This is an excellent suggestion, but the problem is that the temporary rom has all of its system files stored inside a .IMG file extension that is unable to open using 7zip. So Root Explorer will not work
So does anyone have any other solutions? How am I going to be able to inject system files into a .IMG container?
EDIT: marcusant, you probably missed reading in my very first post in this thread, that I have already posted a Q&A here asking for help to troubleshoot why my CM9 hotspot tethering isn't working (but worked fine with the EL30 hack), and never was able to resolve the issue.
Unrelated to the epic...I rooted my sisters phone while she was visiting over the weekend. She had to leave before I could flash CM7 on her phone so I'm doing it remotely right now. Her phone is old and has no support really so I'm asking here. When I try to boot in CWM it won't. I have figured out why but cannot fix it remotely. Is there a way to get gapps installed without going through CWM? Like download the .apk files individually and install them so she can at least log into her google account until I can fix it?

I think maybe you could download the gapps zip, extract it somewhere, and copy the apk files into the /system/app folder on the root of the phone. You'd have to use a file manager on the phone with root access, I recommend ES File Explorer, if you use this one then you have to tic a couple settings: Up to Root, Root Explorer, and Mount File System. After you copy the files into the system/app folder (ON THE PHONE, NOT ON THE SD CARD) then reboot the phone and should hypothetically be working.
Without having gapps, she will need to install amazon app store to get es file explorer, unless you want to track down the apk for it for her. As long as her browser is working she should be able to download the amazon app store without any trouble.
Thank you! Will give it a try.

simplest fix without using the root that you gained would be just disable the stock samsung camera then download one from the play store....but if you wanna use the root you just gained i would say download this then extract the samsung camera from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2741413 then with the root browser just delete the samsung app that you have installed and put the one you extracted in its place then fix the permissions then reboot and it should work now

Yes ive tried using the apps for it and writing it but it still wont let me write to the external sd card and its messing up my my backup pro and titanium backup where it wont let me change to paths to there since kit kat and then im getting the insufficient space error from titanium when I have like 6 gbs on my ext. Sd card and it says it even when I try to backup even just facebook cause I was just gonna switch to CM rom cause of camera still screwing up but I wanna backup my things first but it wont let me and it pointless to do internal since I gotta wipe the data anyways but thanks

Even if you sent the apps to your external SD they would still be wiped if you do a full wipe in order to flash a new rom....but what you can do is copy the apps data to your external SD with a root browser. Basically make a copy of the "Android<Data" sub folder from your Internal SD then change the name of the Android Folder then paste it to your external SD and the apps data it self will be safe even if you wipe to flash a new rom...

I have the same problem.N5100 with chinese as default. I'd like to change that to samsung.
After pasteing you have to change the permissions of the pasted files to match the permissions of other files there.
I've never pasted apks, but changing the host file I have to fix permissions to rw-r--r--. Maybe you can paste, reboot into recovery and fix permissions to correct the permissions.

All the Stock Samsung Apps need also Samsung framework and CM based Rom do not have is framework included. So this will never work.

User_99 has a valid point that I overlooked.
If you want to try anyway:
(This is for root explorer options/methods may vary with other apps but it should give you an idea.) After pasting the files long press them to bring up the options. Press permissions, make sure read and write are checked for owner, and only read for groups and others. Then reboot for good measure.
To fix permissions in recovery (instead of using the method above) it depends on the recovery you have installed. Cwm has a fix permissions option under 'advanced'. Twrp has one too but I'm not well versed in it to guide you to it. After running the fix permissions option reboot.
As user_99 stated tho, if they are tied to the stock framework it still won't work.
