Full wipe is obligatory
Installing Kernel via Kernel flasher is obligatory, otherwise your device won’t boot!

THE QUESTION HERE !! FLASHING THE BOOT.IMG FOR ROM VIA CMD IS NOT ENOUGH ????

I haven't tried yet but I think the kernel flasher also flashes modules which may not be present in the Rom

command for boot.img work fine

Is available a FAQ post about MaximusHD 20 at this link
About it you must flash the given boot.img in the kernel flasher and perform a full wipe. Other kernels don't working on it. TWRP 2.6 is recommended because with other recoveries you may be stuck on 0% or 8% during the installation.
All is totally working with no bugs, if you have one you should retry a celan flash.
Good luck and enjoy

Which version of hotboot do you have? Have you clean dalvik via fastboot after flashing?

Thats because you updated the phone to at least 3.17 software or higher (updated touch drivers !)
Indeed use twrp (repacked) or philz. Btw flashed it with philz myself, no issues

@Mr Hofs
is clockwork recovery fine for installing this rom ?
or do u recommend philz recovery ??
If yes then how do i change from cwm to philz ?
Philz has a zip file whereas cwm is .img file
I installed cwm through cmdpromt
But how do i install philz through cmd ?

hey mate,
1. +2. All recoverys should work. TWRP 2.6 is recommand. Some Philz users reported issues (stuck @ 0%, bootloop etc.).
3. Just flash it via fastboot.
4. Unzip it and you will find a .img file
5. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot erase cache

Thanks i will try this ! :good:

Guys official OTA is available in many countries. The new base is 4.18.401.2 but the Maximus is on 4.18.401.1. Also the hotboot is updated to 1.72.
I hope in a OTA update of Maxiums and not in another clean flash

I won't recommend any recovery. But philz has a fully functional one. Twrp is a good recovery but in the repacked version adb and ums does not work. And in philz it all does work. I use philz and flashed the sense 5 rom with succes. Just sharing my experience
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

And as for the kernel, flashing it via fastboot is fine. the kernel flasher is a simple batch file to simplify things, but it doesn't appear to fastboot erase cache, so imo it is better to flash the boot image manually. I did and it's working flawlessly

MaximusHD 21 with base 4.18.401.2 is available, but on OTA you find the full rom, so 700MB.
I don't know if in the kernel flasher provided by football there is the wipe cache script, maybe the missing wipe can cause wifi issue.

An alternative is instead of rebooting your device from fastboot is to go back to hboot, load into recovery and manually wipe cache partition.

In any case if you select full wipe while installing the rom in the log you can read wiping cache so theoretically no problem. But a dev daid to me that is safer clean from fastboot

Yep, Flashing using cmd and erasing cache is working just fine.
See whats inside "Flash kernel.bat": nothing special but standard "fastboot flash boot boot.img"

[Q] My HOX (HTC One X) wont install sense roms

Hello,
I have recently bought a second-hand HTC One X. When i bought the HOX it was rooted running the viper x 2.0.0 rom. I decided to change the rom to cyanogen 10 nightly. It was working fine but then i decided to install slim bean 3.0.0 and this was working fine too (this is what i have on my HOX right now). What i would like to do is install viper x 2.0.0 again or another sense-based rom. However i tried doing this and it does not boot. When i install it, it just loads the htc logo and then reboots again back into clockworkmod recovery?
I have tried various sense-based roms and none of then work? Also i know viper x 2.0.0 works because it was on there when i bought it.
Please can someone give me instuctions on how to do it.
Thanks in advance
P.S When i try to install the viper x or other sense-based rom i flash the boot.img using 'fastboot flash boot boot.img'
I have just fixed it i installed the latest version and worked the one i was installing must have been a ota update? anyway if u are stuck like me read this
after flashing the boot.img try "fastboot erase cache" it should work
erase cache always
Thanks for reply

Yes, i know this because i use winrar to extract the boot.img from the viperx.zip
What do u think i should do to make it work?
I was thinking do i need to flash a kernel that works for the viperx to work or does the viperx.zip already have a kernel inside the file?
At the moment i have : 2.6.39.4-cyanogenmod because i have slimbean installed which is based on cm10
Full wipe, that's all I can think of.

6. wipe data/factory reset
7. wipe cache
8. mounts & storage format system , data , cache
9. go to advanced and wipe dalvic cache
10. flash the rom
11. I rebooted the HOX in the aroma installer
12. and then it just boots on htc logo then back into recovery?!?
Also the weird thing is only sense-based roms don't work? And all the sense-based roms i have tried use aroma installer, maybe this could be to do with it?

How to flash a custom kernel

Hi guys, I am stock rooted and want to flash latest xm kernel 115 on my phone. I downloaded the repacked boot image for my Rom but don't know what to do now, can someone guide me through the process
Can someone also tell me what the smartmax govenor does and how it compares to interactive, which is better for gaming and which for battery life. Finally I presume deadline is the best schedular for perfomance, am I right?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
For flash the kernel:
1) Copy the modules into sd card
2) reboot in recovery
3) Flash modules
4) Return on recovery home
5) With prompt write: "adb reboot bootloader"
6) Erase cache: "fastboot erase cache"
7) Flash the kernel "fastboot flash boot name_of_kernel.img
8) Erase cache
9) Use "fastboot reboot"
10) Enjoy
Smartmax is the best governor for battery life.

Mate,
That's Ok since we don't have S-OFF the boot.img in Kernel zip will not flash through recovery it will only flash the modules. So you can flash the repacked boot.img then reboot to recovery and flash the Kernal.zip. Then wipe cache and reboot.

And I do the opposite
If you use CWM, it makes sense to flash boot first 'cause hboot has direct linking to recovery. If you flashed modules first, you would have to boot to bootloader the "hard" way.

It makes me feel safer to know that
Fastboot erase cache
is the last command i use before rebooting the phone.
And step 6 is not required.
Well either way....it works. And its not so difficult when you install the modules first....then open the fastboot command window and type
Adb reboot bootloader
Then flash the boot.img and reboot
TT did you ment with the hard way by holding the buttons ? If so....its not needed
Edit : like guich said already ....

kernel, twrp and back to stock issues

hi,
im stuck in a circle of stupid mistakes
from the beginning:
my HOX was on stock ROM, but rooted.
i made the OTA to 3.18.401.1 (by using rootkeeper)
then i wanted to get back to stock without root by flashin a RUU.
there is no RUU for the 3.18.xx
the older RUUs are giving me an error 140 message
so i figured out that the only way to get back to stock now is by restoring a NAND backup
i haven't made a backup of my HOX because i already have it since few days
a kind user of this forum gave me his twrp backup of 3.18.401.1 to restore
so i flashed the twrp 2.4.3.0 to restore
but the touchscreen isnt working (same with twrp 2.4.0.0)
after reading a little on xda i now know that this is kernel related issue
i flashed the adviced kernel over CWM
flashed twrp 2.4.0.0
but touchscreen still isnt working.
:crying:
Now i dont know what to do.
im trying to fix this for 2 days now and i cant take it any longer

Have you tried erasing cache in fastboot with fastboot erase cache. Maybe that will help
i had the wrong version of the twrp 2.4.0.0.
it has to be the openrecovery-twrp-2.4.0.0-endeavoru-JB.img
now touch is working
but how do i restore a backup?
my HTC_102-3.18.401.1 TWRP Backup.zip is on the root folder of sd.
whe i tap restore in twrp this backup is not shown...
EDIT:
ah ok, i need to create folder /twrp/backups/myIMEI/
Glad to see you got sorted

Yes Lukes is right. This is the typical issue if you didn't flash boot.img AND erased the cache. Give it a go, it'll fix it for sure.

Can i just update them through CMs update manager or is it best to flash from scratch.

Why do people mess around even before reading !!!
You flash a boot.img via fastboot commands on the pc. The boot.img is located inside the rom.zip file !

This isn't normally required on the M8, unless its some quirk specific to MIUI (which is a ROM I don't a have much knowledge of).
Make sure your TWRP version is up to date.
Make sure your hboot is up to date.
Wipe user data and cache (default wipe in TWRP) before flashing the ROM.
Those are the most common reasons for no boot after flashing multiple ROMs.
I dont use TWRP. I use Philz Touch recovery.
Where can i download latest TWRP ?

That may be the issue right there. I know some folks are still using it, but Philz hasn't been updated in a long time. And since some newer ROMs have issues with older TWRP builds, I would assume the same would be true with Philz.
You can get TWRP here: https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
