back to the rooting game - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

So i sold my iphone 5 and picked up a note 2 for cheap. Ive had all of the previous galaxy phones. Im looking for opinions on choosing a rom. Im looking for the most stable and battery friendly. Im sure any custom rom is faster than stock so thats not concern for me. I would like to stick with touchwiz based also. Thanks in advance.

Everyone talks about clean rom.. I've never personally tried it though.

And you have to decide for yourself which ROM to use because it must please YOU. It is best you read about the software you are about to drastically alter your $700 device with.

Ok i just dont have time to go through all the thread pages. Its not as easy as keeping with a rom from the day it comes out.

I know modems are depended on location but which one is the majority having good luck with?

If you like TW Roms I would use Clean Rom 5, if aosp is your style then slimrom build 8 or beanstalk

Clean and Sky are both solid TW Roms, Liquid is killer for AOSP.

Best Rom?

Seems that the number of roms grew in the past few months for the Sprint GS3 and its hard to keep up. With 4.2 now released and the multi-window ability on the note 2. Can anyone help me decide which Rom best incorporates these features?

Ok, 4.2 has only been announced with the Nexus 4 (Nexus 10.1 et al), so i don't know where else it has been released.
Anyway, best ROM right now for me is Team Sonic FreeGS3 with JellyBean.

I agree up to the point of jellybean. Not having flash and wifi tether was killing me so I reverted to the previous build. But Clark has got a great rom going on here which ever way you choose. +1 thanks if it helps.

Best ROM threads are frowned upon because they alwasy turn into pissing contests.
OP, best way to choose a ROM is to go to Development section and read the OPs. If one seems like it will work for you, then read the last ten pages or so to find out any recent bugs. If you like, then start reading. If not, then move on to the next one.
Also, this is a question. Why put in General when there is a Q&A section.

I don't understand why everyone is so against answering these questions from their personal experiences. He's not asking what the best rom is.
For me personally, I have found infamous to be the most stable.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Because in general all the ROMs are perfect for someone not everyone. Your idea of perfect is yours not his. One person might not like what the cook/dev did to that ROM or added or took away. There is no perfect/best ROM.

.... That's what I said. He didn't ask what the best rom is (like you said, impossible question to answer). He asked what people have found to be the most stable.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
That's also up to him, depends on what he needs and uses. I find a certain type of ROMs to be extremely stable for my uses and my friend is the opposite cause of what he uses daily. Besides its in the rules that these threads are frowned on.

OP, all comments are valid, but you are the one that has to flash and figure out...
There are too many variables to see what is best/stable. Your apps vice my apps...
Just test for your self.

Best of rooting on Note 2

So I just recently got a note 2. I had a Note I717. Did everything possible in rooting on that phone. Got a note 2 with insurance since Note 1 usb port got messed up. I wanna know what are the best ROM's and Apps and tweaks for the note 2 are. I've played with most roms on the note 1. My Favorite was Jellybam besides all the daily updates. I love the stock TW because of the battery performance. Amazing lasts for a long time. I am more of a cyanogenmod based OS. What's some good roms with customization and really good battery life like the stock TW. I'd appreciate all the suggestions

Jedi Master 13 with Saberkernel 23 is by far the best TW ROM for this phone (in my opinion). Jellybam is the best AOSP 4.2.2 ROM (in my opinion). Jellybam is banned from XDA though, you have to go to bam android to download the rom.

^^This! If you're so experienced flashing roms and such then you should know there is no best rom. You should also know how easy it is to read the OP in the rom that interests you. You should also know to make a Nandroid and flash the ones that interest you and restore back if it doesn't meet your criteria.

I agree with that statement 100% I was just giving my opinion from my experience with the roms I have tried (I have probably flashed roughly 12 different roms). Which is why I stated it was my opinion.

I know how to do almost everything. I play with framework and what not also. I'm more of a fan of CM based roms. I just hated random reboots and battery life problems. My note 1 was rooted and flashed and my usb port got messed up. I had no choice but to call my insurance and replace for a new. That's why I'm second thinking about rooting. Cause of anything happens to my phone I can just go get it swapped. But thanks for the rom suggest. I will look at it

I tried Jedi but a lot of things that WOULD, normally work wouldn't work for me(videos 4 one). So I moved on to something else!! What makes a Rom the best, because it best fits the person and their opinions, and there likes!! Not because everyone thinks it's the best. Or it has a bunch of pages in the thread.
If you want to look at something else, that most of the time everything just works out the box. Kinda like stock with a lil speed & flare.

Rules are rules.
Number 1 rule is to search before posting. There are many theads asking this same question, so why answer it? Keep your suggestions to yourself on telling me how to reply to posts. As you can see my post got three "thanks" yours got none. Thanks, have a good day.
The best ROM is the one you decide on yourself and love. No one can tell you what is best for you, for how you use your phone, for the colors and icons you like...you have to backup, read, flash a few and decide which is best for you. If you read the ROM threads you will see they are all the best for those that use them

Switching to Note 2 from iPhone 5, did I get a deal?

I am trading a guy tomorrow for a Galaxy note 2, white, mint. He has had it in an otterbox defender, as I have had my iphone 5 in one too. I am stoked. I really cant wait to journey back to android. I had my iPhone on iOS 7, and while I will give it leeway because it was a beta, I did not enjoy it as much as I would have liked. After having my jailbreak lost I figure why not join the ranks of android again! But with a twist, start with this behemoth, I have always wondered what it would be like to have one. I will see it tomorrow. Anything I should know before going into the trade with this phone specifically, any firmware number I should avoid or stress areas I should check? Can't wait! :good:
Best decision you ever could of made, tho you might be able to get some extra cash from him since iphones value are more then android phones.
4.1.2 based roms are more stable then the 4.2.2 since those are unofficial (not carrier based)
Just read the stickies in these forums and youll be rooted and flashing new roms in no time, enjoy this beast phone!

Dont you worry, I already have my toolkit downloaded and installed, just looking over some of my favorite ROMs, some CM10.1 and I will finally fet to try out PA with some HAlo, then MIUI and some AOSP Stock. I have been around the block and miss flashing ROMS haha
Thanks a lot, I don't mind the price difference, that not important to me really, It's all the same to myself, the guy seems nice enough and I am getting an otterbox defender out of it, which I would buy anyway! Thanks for the advice though!
There is nothing compared to this phone. You wont regret it. There are some sick ass developers and the roms they push are killer!! Welcome to Note 2!!

Cool, thanks, like I said haven't been around haha, so pumped
great trade if you ask me. i've got both the s4 and gn2 and prefer using the gn2... except when i'm on mobile data. the s4 is verizon and gn2 is crappy ole sprint.

I can't be the only one

I LOVE the feel of vanilla android, which is why I had a nexus 4, and a GNEX before that. But at the moment I am using a galaxy s3. First thing I did was root and start going through custom ROMs.
The problem I am having is EVERY aosp, aokp, cm ROM I have tried I have serious issues with WiFi. Tends to work fine during set up and for a while after that, but after a seemingly random amount of time it will shut off the WiFi and fail to turn back on until I reboot.
I have been searching for a couple hours for a solution with no luck. Has anyone else been having this problem, and if so is there a solution?
Thanks in Advance.

I had the same problem. Try LiquidSmooth.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I have tried liquid smooth, pacman, dirty unicorn, and a couple others. Every touchwiz ROM I try WiFi is perfect.
I use twrp to wipe data, cache, system, and dalvik several times. Then I install ROM, wipe dalvik again, reboot system. Let it be for usually 10 minutes or so, restart the phone and go. Works great for a minute, then the WiFi issues...
Update your bootloader possibly? Change your modem.

Or try the latest kt kernel. His kernels have an update WiFi driver.

use my rom, you won't know the difference
remember AOSP = open source driver's that aren't meant for this phone, they will work. just never as well

It's certainly an option. Haven't used the ROM, but it looks good.
I was mostly responding because I always insisted on using AOSP ROMs also. I just got fed up with all the issues (at the time), and went back to TW. I don't particularly like the way it looks, but I don't really see the menus. The homescreen is the exact same (Nova). All the apps are the same. What I'm saying is the aesthetics can be overlooked.
Stuff from sources are always more stable than when there isn't , understand that and you'll know the troubles that comes with it.

I've actually never had WiFi issues on AOSP ROMs. I've been rocking CyanogenMod ever since the cm9 days too.

I'll stand by this, great rom and super fast. Personally, I haven't had any wifi problems with liquid smooth though.
His rom is amazing and all, but there are differences in AOSP and twiz no matter how much we try to separate them both.
