Which player for MKV ? - LG Optimus G Pro

on my Droid3, Droid4 and Huawei Ascend Mate i am using the MX Player Pro to play MKV files.
On the G Pro i can not play MKV files, not with with MX Player, not with the original Player on the LG G Pro.
Anyone knows a player ?
cheers ...

VLC

What? Can't play MKV?
LG Flagship have most powerful codec than the other.
Stock player handle everything except hi10p format (snapdragon fault).

I play mkv files on my GPro with MX-Player.

my standard-player is the mx player pro, i have 7 mkv video clips and only 1 will play. The tip from here use vlc the same result.
For me its not important .. but i thinks its very spooky coz on my huawei ascend mate and droid 4 all 7 files are playing with the mx player.
thanks for helping ... i think i will convert it.
cheers
UPDATE: Sorry, my fault !!!!!! the mkv not running are defect ....

VLC is pretty great for being an alpha. Stock player is still the best though.
Nothing beats stock player atm. I'm on CM7, so I don't have the flawless Samsung player, hence I also need a replacement. The best I've got so far is mobo player, however it can't handle HD videos that well. There's also Rock player, but to me it seemed even worse than Mobo player. I've also gave VLC player a try, but in this alpha stage it's unusable; it has lower than 1 FPS on HD videos. So, I'm waiting for improvements on either of them.
I use QQPlayer for playing RMVB files. Super I should say
Vplayer, all the way.

Multi audio track in single file.
Single MKV/MP4 file may have 2 or more audio track.
some players like dice,mx can choose audio track.
Ohk. Thanks

There seems to be 2 Mobo players on the market. The original one, and a "newer" one. No idea if the newer one is legit or notably different.
Generally, there is very little the stock player won't handle, if you find something then Mobo seems to be able to deal with it.
My Samsung Galaxy s2 Stock Media Player dosent play ac3 Audio files or Mp4 Files with Ac3 audio decoded. I was able to play those using Dice player or rockplayer. But i dont have an option called 5.1 to enable on those players unlinke stock player.
The official Samsung Site or other specification gives the specification (This is from wikipedia)
For audio it supports (FLAC, WAV, Vorbis, MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, MID, AC3, XMF). For video formats and codecs it supports (MPEG-4, H.264, H.263, DivX HD/XviD, VC-1) and video formats (3GP (MPEG-4), WMV (ASF) as well as AVI (DivX)).
Issues:
1. Stock Media Player dosent play ac3 Audio files or Mp4 FIles with Ac3 audio decoded (Stock Media Player gives the Option 5.1 to be enabled but ac3 not playing)
2. Other players play it Under software decoding, But main Problem is 5.1 isn't working with Head phones
I googled and found some Users were able to Play it with stock media Players. Read something like "I dont have any problem playing those files, I just copy and play them"
I am now confused is this happeneing with my device alone, So guys how do you dea this?
Please reply so that i would be grateful to you guys
Until someone makes video codec for the sg2 Mali gpu, no software codec will be able to handle high res video better than the stock video player, or lower res video with the same battery efficiency.
That being said, audio decoding and subtitle handling don't need that horsepower, and more and more players mix stock decoder hardware features for the video part and software management for the rest.

Something is wrong or missing, can't really give you an answer because I never seen that happen before. Should give more info about the file your trying to play.
Besides that, why not just stick to the 3rd party apps. I stop using stock since it barely plays anything correctly compared to both MX and Dice player anymore. Or is that 5.1 sound effect really that necessary to you?

MX Video Player has dual core support, plays everything I throw at it. Be sure to download the codec addon in the market too.
Avi should work but mine is little laggy when playing avi. Mkv is hit or miss. The best video player should be the mx video.

which codec addon did you install?
There is only one and it should point you to the correct one the first time you start mx video player. If in doubt uninstall mx video player and reinstall. It should send you to the correct codec link once again.
i found mobo to work better than mx and rock player.

+1 on mobo

Just did some comparisons and Mobo does seem to have better playback. Smoother and less buggy. Switched from MX to Mobo Player!
i just need to find one that can play .mkv files.

I using Vplayer. Work fine with almost type of movies. And also support SRT to view subtitles.
QQ Player, search it on the web market.
Is optimized and very fast on my HTC Magic and Acer A100 and play .mkv
+1 for MX Player.
I haven't tried MX Player yet , but everywhere I search Mobo seems to be the player everyone recommends and it boggles my mind. As an app itself its pretty good, however, it lasted a total of 30 seconds on my phone after I realized that it's spamming me to no end with its bull suggestions for battery savers, task killers and a plethora of other apps I couldn't care less for.
It's too bad because the app definitely has potential.
I'm gonna give MX a shot. Hopefully that's smooth in playing back HD content on my S2.
subtitle
Hi, can I watch movies with subtitles on Acer Iconia A100? Witch player support that? Does it works fine?
Thanks!
If you want to watch videos n do other stuff at the same time, you could give Super Video a try, otherwise I recommend DICE Player
Sent from Iconia A100 rocking CM9 with OC'd kernel currently @1. 5GHz
I use dice for my HD mkvs mp4s and stuff like that, mx for SD and net streaming. Dice and Mx both support subs. I used to use mobo but honestly dice and mx both play better with and seem to force HW more often, dice in particular.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
Impressive Video Player
I highly recommend the free Pop Player app. I recently made a couple of reviews on it on YouTube.
This new video player allows the user to utilize speed-control. The slow-motion
and speeded-motion are extremely smooth too and audio syncs perfectly with
the video at any speed. It can definitely be useful for athletes and students.
Some people I know even use it to replay their golf swings in slow-motion
in order to improve their form.
This player plays MP4 files that contain H264 and AC codecs.

Best Apps & Video Player for galaxy nexus: Supporting MKV or wmv

Hi ,
Yesterday , just got Galaxy Nexus by selling my Iphone 4s and thx for replying my previous question about gpu ,
Now , I wanna look at how galaxy nexus plays videos , I googled hd videos and download Nasa videos from Nasa , its 720p wmv , and my device didnt support this format and I downloaded 3rd party application which is called Mx video player and it opened the video but it didnt play , so I'm kinda disappointed ,
I also tried Vevo and imdb and the quailty of videos werent good , So any suggestions or recommendations for watching video on galaxy nexus ?
what application am i supposed to install ?
The best
Dice player and MX video player. my all time favourite while on AOSP roms.
i usually converted any video first though but it played pretty much everything without converting. i converted just to have a 1280 x 720 resolution.
I use MX Player. Great app. Can't fault it.

Thank you , it played the video
I too use MX Player on my GN and haven't had a problem playing any format of video, wmv included.
I prefer the BS Player with the Codec Pack, seems a little bit smoother than Dice Player for me.
MX probably the best for me now. No problem with it so far.

MX Video Player is definitely my favorite as well. I do find that switching from HW decoding to SW Fast decoding works better a lot of the time for me.
If MX Video Player doesn't play my MKV files, then I try Rock Player. And if that doesn't work, then I just have to convert the file.
Dice Player to play mkv for me (haven't tried wmv), its hardware decoding runs smoothly with not too much heat coming from the phone.
MX Player's hardware decoding seems to be not working properly where it lags more than software decoding. But I have a lot of rmvb's and MX Player runs great with those.

Therollingstone, there are two parts to your question that need attention.
Firstly you say that MX Player didn't play, the reason is that you didn't download the additional files needed to be installed to play the files - You need the ARM v7 Player Codec in addition to MX Video Player app - http://goo.gl/suhcr
Now VEVO and IMDB's disappointing video quality is not the fault of the stock player - It's VEVO and IMDB's fault. They are laying video files at a much smaller resolution (most often to cater to their iPhone customers who have much smaller screens and resolutions 960x640). Galaxy Nexus has a 720P HD Display so it scales up any video you're trying to play at a resolution of 1280x720. This is the reason you might be seeing a slight drop in video quality from these application or any other videos on the web that are streaming videos at a much lower resolution.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Video player for JB

Does anyone know a video player that can play 720p mkv videos for jelly bean? I used to use Mx Player but it's not updated for JB. I've tried Mobo player/Vplayer.
Try dice player. It also does real hardware decode something most of the ffmpeg based players do not do.

Thanks, but it force closes. Oh well I'll just demux the mkv files.
Edit: Oh well I found how to multiplex quickly. (Using MKV extractor, then mp4 muxer). Takes about 20 seconds to multiplex into mp4.
Try updating MX Player. It wasnt working for me earlier, and I just did the update and it works for me.
video player for jelly bean
Actually ilike mx player but performance is suck on jb with mkv file..try BSPlayer..working flawless with 1080p mkv file
I use MX video player on my Nexus "Jelly Bean", there should be VLC media player beta for Android which maybe works too, RealPlayer beta works too but it cannot play mkv, avi, etc. :/
Not sure if it'll do it, but they released VLC for Android not long ago. Not sure if it's downloadable from the play store, but you can download it from XDA and sideload it.

I downloaded VLC player beta (neon) from Play store and it works fine, now I don't have to use MX player anymore where I need to change playing settings sometimes to play videos.. :d

FLV support ?

Hi !
I'm currently trying to make FLV videos work flawlessly on my G Pad 8.3 with the stock Lollipop ROM. For some reason videos with this format don't work well (many frames are skipped). The video players I've tried are : stock LG player, stock Google Photos player, MX Player, VLC Player and FLV Player.
Do I have to install some kind of codecs ?
Thanks
