Did you use cf auto root by chainfire. If not what root method did you use .And what version of odin did you use it should be version 3.07
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium HD app
i used this method
androidrootz.com/2013/05/how-root-cwm-recovery-on-galaxy-s4-gt.html
I used odin 1.85
I flashed to a google edition rom and it works now! I really wanted to use the stock rom.
thanks.
Wrong wrong wrong.that isn't the correct method. And you went to another website outside of xda and come back to xda for help that's a no no.and that isn't how it works here on xda .number one dont for get this stick with xda dont download any programs or zip files that isn't associated with xda if you do it will be considered warez and you want get any help .now this is what you need to do get that crap off of your pc all of it
Next come back to xda and download the correct version of odin 3.07 and download cf auto root by chainfire and before you flash anything make sure you read the op and follow the directions to the letter no short cuts anyway I see you got to work for you happy flashing

I found the link in the xda under "Welcome To the Complete Guide for Just About Anything for T-Mobile Galaxy S4!"
i know that the links are outside xda.
now i am trying to unroot with odin 3.07, but the links are from the other website. i am just going back to stock and they try to root again using the cf auto root by chainfire. that should work, right?

thanks everyone!
i got it to work, i followed the instructions to unroot and to reset the counts. some how after all that even if i got everything to say it was official, i was getting the message that says that there was a program trying to execute on the phone and to prevent i had to reboot, but i was just a loop, and the wifi wasnt working, so after the unroot and the reset count i had to flash with odin one more time using the offcial stock rom, and only after that the wifi work and the message went away. i did wipe cache and data several times during the process.
thanks

So I was happy to read the Tmo GS3 finally getting JB and even happier when my phone pulled it.
However I cannot get it to install.
I'm full stock ROM. I did root via "debugfs-based Root for Galaxy S III"
The first time it failed I remembered I had programs frozen.
Unfroze them, still failed.
So I uninstalled my SuperUser app and told it to remove root.
Both Root Checker and Titanium Backup show no root access.
Update still fails.
Am I missing a step here? Or am I looking at resetting the phone to update it?
Are you updating via OTA or kies. Kies works after root. OTA not so much

OTA.
Going through the settings and telling to check (pull) the update.
Was unaware root broke that :\
I take it even though I'm not not rooted it does not matter.

I'm not seeing binary listed under about device or about device -> status.
I would get the same errors trying to update directly to my phone and instead just updated using kies and it went smooth like silk.

When I plug in my phone it just sits at the loading circle forever. (But that's an issue for another topic)

Camera mode right now.
Also tried with debug on and off, but Kies complains when it's off.
So I know it sees it, but does nothing when debug is on.

Ugh, I cant stand kies, personally. Never use it. Imo there is a much better, safer, nore efficient method.
You are rooted so im assuming you want to stay that way correct?
Go to the firmware thread in my sig and towards the top of the op you will see a section called root66.
Download the latest root66 firmware. Extract the file using 7zip, it should be a .tar.md5 file.
You will use Odin to flash this. If you arennt familiar with Odin, go to the 2nd post to download the latest vrrsion, 3.07. Below that you will find instructions for many different methods, find the flash in Odin one and follow the steps.
The root66 firmware is identical to the stock released by T-Mobile, except it comes pre-rooted, so you wont have to worry bout it after!
Good luck whichever way you go!

Op of that thread will tell you to do exactly what I just did a post or so ago. Just sayin that you should update your firmware before flashing custom roms.
Not required, but recommended for running the jb roms. Otherwise you dont get the full update.
Firmware via odin will update 10 partitions, custom roms only 2-3 on average.

Doing that Kies was finally able to see the phone. Can't believe that's all it was.
I did some backup with it, but the update fails there as well.

I un-rooted currently.
Actually just did a factory reset to try and get the update, still fails.
EDIT:
Your way seems to be what I'm looking for.
Stock with root. Really have no interest in 3rd party ROM's unless it's Nexus style vanilla.

Tried with my laptop, still failed.
For whatever reason, stock rooted then unrooted ROM did not want to be updated either way.
Ended up going with the root66 JB option and ODIN.
Honestly was trying to avoid it, but it was really no hassle and the deed has been done.
Now to get back to restoring everything.
Hey there, I have a rooted S3 (rooted with Snapdragon toolkit) and I have not updated my phone since I've gotten it. Is there a way for me to update my phone using Odin without having to unroot my phone first? If so, where can I download the updates for the Wind Mobile version of the S3? Also, If I update my phone using Odin, will it wipe all data from the phone?
Thanks for any help.
Go here, download the root66 jellybean rom for you carrier and flash it with desktop Odin. You will keep root, apps, settings, everything. These have superSU, yours probably has superuser so you will end up with both. Just open superSU, it will ask you to update the binary and it will take over. Then you can just disable or install superuser if you wish.

That tells me you did not read the thread at all, root66 by mrRobinson rooms are fully stock Samsung firmware with only one modification, root injected on it, so you don't have to do it yourself, and you don't trip the counter in the process of rooting it either.

Try rooting your phone again via Root66 that is much easier than that + its a updated version of rooting and am assuming that recently you just got your phone?
and if your gonna root it again go for the JB version the pre-rooted one.
Root66

Use this guide can't fail. Remember to unchecked reboot on Odin. Or you will never have root. Cause when it reboot it reflashes stock recovery u need to flash su before you let it reboot. So after you install cwr with Odin remove battery and boot into recovery and flash su. And ur good to go.

Guys,
First off tried rooting my note 2 N7100 a couple off days ago following a youtube video on how to root. Was rooted but the CWM was giberish(distorted)therefore I was unable to flash a few things already placed in sdcard.
Via superuser unrooted.
The 2 time I performed root was via Dr.Ketans thread-no root but the count did go up and still is going up cos been trying different methods but to no avail.
Any idea why this is so?
Do I need to flash a fresh stock rom.As I am still on stock everthing except for the rooting attempts.
Checked my imei still there and as for the efs its there but I cannot go into it to view, I think one could only do it if one was rooted.Which I am obviously not.

Ive just downloaded the Toolkit. And am reading it now.
And for your info DR.Ketan since ive tried several each time i had only used the links provided by those tutorials.
1)Followed youtube video by Inam Gafoor and used contents from the video
2)Xda -N7100 All in 1 by yourself and used all links provided.2nd method.
3)GalaxyNote2Root-how to root SGNote2 easiest and simplest and its links
4)Cursed4eva youtube guide-how to root SGNote2 and its link
i simply needs your Odin logs, then only i can advise you further.
After flashing file with Odin, what msg appears on odin Tab , copy paste here.
I attempted to root my Galaxy S4 (T-Mobile) with ODIN using OUDHS custom recovery. ODIN says it passed and I used the flash the root file from the external sd card, but it still hasn't been rooted yet. (What I followed so you know what file I am talking about: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2268880)
Since it didn't work, can I just retry ODIN (possibly use CWM this time) again or will I brick the phone because right now it still works, but I am afraid that it brick if I try to go back to Square One.
I am a novice at Rooting and Android, so please forgive me if my question seems rather annoying or needy.
I can't think of a reason why you can't try again.
Also, you might want to try another recovery. I did my phone yesterday with clockwork touch.
