[Q] cant find Ultimate HD in CWM - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a lill Problem, yesterday i saw the new version of Ulitmate HD, so i thought i give it a try, i made my backups and stuff, placed the update_xperia_ultimate_hd_4.0 on my SD-Card and booted into CWM.
did the following steps
wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- mount and storage -> format /system
- advanced -> wipe dalvik cache
- advanced -> wipe battery stats
Click to collapse
and tried to install the FILE, mhh no file with the name update_xperia_ultimate_hd_4.0 on my SD card, or at least its not showing up in CWM, there was just a file update.zip. i thought maybe thats the ROM file so i tried to use it,
but it didnt work i get an error
E: Cant mount /sdcard/update.zip
Installation aborted.
soo i flashed the stock ROM again 4.1.B.1.13, rooted my phone again, xparts for cwm, downloaded Ulitmate HD again, and copied it on my SD Card..
Same Error again, i can only see the update.zip file in CWM not the update_xperia_ultimate_hd_4.0.
what is the problem ? did i miss sth ? it worked without any problems with the old ultimate version.
thx for the help

Sorry for the trouble, i just renamed the file to update.zip and it is working,
amazing ROM :good:

[Q] Can anyone help me? Desire stuck in boot loop :(

Hi all
Got an issue that I just cant solve.
I have a desire, rooted, s-on. Was running leedroid 3.3.3, all was working well until couple of days ago when after a reboot all the content on the SD card seemed to disappear. Strange thing was, it could still be read when mounted.
So, after trying a few things I decided to reflash, so wiped cache, data and anything else I could do via recovery.
Copied the leedroid.zip file to my card, renamed update.zip but now when I try to apply it from recovery I get the below error:
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory) E: signature verification failed. Installation aborted.
Cant work this out.. people have suggested that I disable verification checking in recovery.. but I dont see that option in the recovery menu I can access?
I wonder if anyone could help me as I am phone-less
many thanks
Assuming you are using clockworkmod recovery, this option should be in "Advanced".

Hey!
When you're flashing a .zip rom use the "install zip from SD card" option, not "apply update .zip". The signature is different, so it wont work.
So just try and wipe cache, data, ext, system, dalvik and battery stats, and then install the zip from the sd without renaming it.
What recovery are you using? I suggest CWM for a clean experience.
Also i suggest to put your sd card in a computer and back-up the contents, than format it again in CWM. At lease fix the permissions.
Check the advanced menu for dalvik wipe, battery stats and fixing permissions.
I hope that helps. If not, write here and we will help you.
Cheers!
thanks for the replies.. i got it working late last night
the problem was that I didn't have the CWM recovery file update.zip on my card.. i had cleared everything and re partitioned the card, so the phone was blank and i only had the rom .zip file
so without the proper update.zip i was unable to get into recovery.
i could not find update.zip anywhere at all for download, but luckily i had an old copy in my dropbox from months ago that i was able to get on my card
then i was able to flash
so.. the lesson i learnt from this issue is always a keep a copy of update.zip
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Galaxy Pocket S5300 MAK-DROID Help Needed

Hello guys, couple days back I quit smoking so i had some spare time and I thought I could improve my 1st android phone. Well, I am smoking this very moment and I have a very nice paperweight on my desk.
ROM: t=1873652
I've tried installing the ROM, but it didn't work. I've done everything exactly as in the tutorial, but I got stuck.
So I got past these steps:
* Download the CWM for pocket from here
* Copy update.zip into your internal memory
* Go to recovery mode (Vol-up + Home + Power)
* Choose apply Update from SD card
* Select update.zip file
* Wipe data factory reset,
* Wipe Cache data
but then I tried installing the ROM itself from the SD card I got the error "E:Can't mount /sdcard/"
I can't cancel the installation or boot my system, I don't have a data cable, although I have a card reader if that helps. My android was on the S5300XXLF5 stock firmware and I am using CWM v5.0.2.8. Oh and everytime I try to reboot the device from CWM menu it just freezes all I'm seeing is the console with the "Rebooting..." at the bottom of it.
What should I do now? I want to either get this ROM working or just getting my phone to work with any firmware - any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
update1
I get an error even before that, it pops up during "Data Factory Reset" procedure:
E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblklp2
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format...
Data wipe complete.
oh and BTW, CWM getting stuck in the "rebooting..." stage is a perk of this build apparently...
Where did you get your ROM? Did you download the Mak-Droid ROM?
Copy the zip file to your sdcard. After you get the CWM running, you proceed to installing your new ROM. Read the instructions carefully.
And if you are stuck in rebooting, if you read the instructions- it tells you to manually reboot by pressing the power button. After this reboot, it will go back to the original MOD the you reboot again.
This should work for you...
I had the same experience. Just manually reboot the phone.
It is stated on the instructions that the reboot option on CWM for galaxy pocket doesn't work as of now.

If you applied update.zip after that - 1)put the file on the root (I.e when you open my files the first page that appears)
2)reboot to cwm
3)wipe data/factory;wipe cache partition;and go to advanced and select wipe dalvik cache
4)now go back and select install zip from sdcard
5)choose the file and select yes
6)wait installing....completed
7)reboot
Wait 2-5 min to load the rom and then enjoy..

[Q] rooted dinc; install TOB3.0 - format mounts and storage? status 7 & more issues

[Q] rooted dinc; install TOB3.0 - format mounts and storage? status 7 & more issues
I've been working hard to get my dinc rooted, and am about to install Touch of Blue 3.0, but just want to double-check what to do to 'format everything in the mounts and storage menu except emmc and sdcard' because I believe my first installation attempt failed because I didn't do that.
My first attempt....
I rooted the dinc using the instructions over on android forums - all things root - how to root, and also upgraded the hboot/radio.
Then I then tried to install TOB3.0 by wiping cache & dalvik cache and installing zip from sd card. I got an error -- set_perms failed and then failed with Status 7. (This is the same error I got at this point a month ago when rooting another dinc and trying to install the rooted stock GB ROM. Then, I installed TOB2.2 and that worked fine.) After the Status 7, in trying to get out of that, I somehow put the phone into a boot loop, and it kept booting to the white screen w/ green HTC Incredible. Soooo, took the battery out to get out of that, and went to my back-up of stock unrooted froyo. many hours later, I am now at: 2.2 froyo 3.26.605.1; rooted; unlocked; s-off; radio 2.15.10.12.20
Now I want to install TOB3.0 correctly. I did see that I didn't follow the TOB3.0 directions the first time and didn't 'format everything in the mounts and storage menu except emmc and sdcard'. Do I do this by going into CWM -> mounts and storage and then doing 'format /boot', 'format /system' etc for everything except 'format /emmc' and 'format /sdcard'? Then do wipe cache/dalvik cache and install zip from sdcard?
Could skipping the formatting be the reason for my 'set_perms ... Status 7' error in the first place? If the installation fails again with the set_perms problem, I see that there is a Fix Permissions option in CWM, but I don't know how to use that.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes do the wipe just as you said above. Not wiping could have been the issue. Also just a recomendation, but i would consider upgrading to TWRP recovery.

[Q] Did I just brick?

Recently rooted i747 with CWM and flashed Android 4.3 with no issues (shoulda just stopped there). I wanted to flash CM 10.2... data/factory reset, cache wipe, Davlik wipe... but flash failed. Rebooted into recovery to reflash 4.3, but nothing is found under sdcard/0. What am I missing? Thanks for any help!
Use the file explorer in recovery and navigate to /data/media/0. Your stuff should be there.
CWM v6.0.3.1
- reboot system now
- install zip from sdcard
- install zip from sideload
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- backup and restore
- mounts and storage
- advanced
I apologize for the ignorance, but I cannot for the life of me find any file explorer. When I try to install zip from sdcard, my only options are: 0/, clockworkmod/, and obb/. All of which state that no files are found.
Dl Rom onto sdcard with a computer. Maybe a factory reset will help first. I'm used to using twrp, which has a file explorer in it
I'll definately try that. Will my internal storage still be there? Thanks again.

Yes, your internal storage will still be there, unless u specifically wipe it. The file stucture is just a little different on these roms...

Using custom recoveries will not wipe your internal sd unless you specifically do so. Stock recovery (3e) however WILL wipe your internal on the latter releases.
Got it! Data/factory reset before flashing a stock 4.1.2 ROM through Odin and everythng is golden. Thanks!

Is the md5sum of the ROM correct?
Which version of TWRP?
Do you have a Sprint or Verizon device?

why did you wipe your internal storage??? thats where you put the rom so you can flash it...
this is what they put in the op for that rom
How to flash:
Download ROM and place it on your virtual SD card <--- thats your internal storage
Boot your phone in recovery mode (vol down + power)
In main menu, select "install zip from sdcard"
Select "choose zip from sdcard" and browse to the location of Android Revolution ROM
You can use data wiping option in AROMA (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM) <--- this is where you do the data wiping
After flashing process is complete, reboot the device
anytime you are flashing anything you most read then read it again after that read it again then and only then you proceed.

1. witch rom you trying to to install?
name of rom and version
2. did you check md5sum to make sure its correct?
sometimes its just a bad download
3. witch recovery you are using?
TWRP or CWM
4. where are you putting the rom?
i put mine in /sdcard/Download/rom in here (sdcard is the internal sdcard)
