[Q] S4 Touchscreen not responding - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I recently applied my ArmorSuit screen protector to my GS4 but now the touchscreen isn't responding and when I put the charger in it's not charging. I did use the liquid ArmorSuit provided to apply the screen protector and I really hope the digitizer isn't broken.

I've also noticed the front camera turning into a whiteish-grayish colour. Everything is functional except touch screen not being responsible and charging :| Does anyone know if T-Mobile will replace my phone since it hasn't been 30 days since I bought it yet? I do have JUMP! if that helps..

You'll have to ask them. If it's water damage it's not cover under warranty.
I don't know 100% but if you're on Jump it should have insurance and that might cover it. Again call T-mobile to make sure.

Have you tried taking it off? Maybe take it off and if it's still broken take it to TMO right away and play dumb lol.

Good idea. I've saved a keyboard that way.

Well guys, today I went to my local T-Mobile store with my rooted stock phone with OUDHS recovery, and got it replaced for free. The guy told me that the "applications" I download is why my phone didn't work LOL. The guy even went to recovery but didn't say anything and just replaced it.

looking to replace the AMOLED screen on my Vibrant

ok so I managed to crack the screen..nice big shatter mark under the screen and now the entire screen went black...insurance is a pain and from what I understand getting Asurion to replace my vibrant will be $130 and buying an AMOLED screen itself is cheaper.
The rest of the phone is still in working condition as before my screen went totally black after it broke some of it was still functional.
Any idea on where I can get the screen? I have not had luck on ebay as of yet, and was hoping someone here could recco a reputable vendor...

I dropped my vibrant from my and it was in the case.. it landed flat on the screen..glass did not break but AMOLED screen enploded.. I didnt know until i got to my car and tried to make a call. Crap...I dish out the $130.00 bucks ...bummed out about that..

Still great site and price. Thanks
Thanks I'll try cnn.cn. I see some decent reviews about them.
Is there a tutorial on how to replace this? Or would you have to get someone to do it?

I cracked my screen also. I found that site after I put in the claim. So I figured what the hell and started taking it apart, for next time.
It isn't easy! I'm pretty nerdy and good with my hands. Be very careful and very patient. There are small parts and wires that can very easily break.

Have you had any luck with this?I own an Orange San Francisco and cracked the amoled, unfortunately orange or any other site/company offers any repair AFAIK. I'm looking into repairing it myself, are amoled connectors compatible from one phone to another or are they manufacturer specific if you are aware of? I know this is a long shot but it doesn't hurt asking.

it would most likely have to be the same part
because the Galaxy S series are the only ones with that size AMOLED screen.
been there done that
i got a vibrant off of something awful for pretty cheap with a broken screen
first off you literally have to pry the screen off of the phone
and the bottom four buttons? there is a very thin ribbon cable that is glued to the screen
there are a few things youll need
1.really small screw driver (i got a glasses repair kit from the dollar store. worked great)
2.something to pry the screen off (used a screw driver from said kit)
3.balls. that ribbon cable is very very easy to break
first off you have to take apart the phone completely
i would even take off the one board that the screen connects to
then you need to pry off the screen very carefully
if your amold or whatever part is broken you're going to have to peel it off
it really sucks and makes you look like a bad 70s disco
after that it gets pretty simple
make sure you have something to hold the top and bottom part to the phone
mine isnt flush due to me being a jackass and not getting the right glue stuff to hold it down
after that it should work perfect like before
if anyone wants to trade me a new screen for the i9000 screen or buy me a screen (lol) i would make a very detailed video (not happy with the way the first attempt turned out)
post itt or pm me if you have any questions
So you are saying it should work, but what about the software part, won't there be any problems?

[Q] Screen dead spots after a dunk

I dunked my phone in water but rescued it quickly and dried it out. The phone mostly works except for two dead spots where the W and S keys are in portrait mode. (When I press each of these keys, they register either or both of the letters next to them on the keyboard.) I have the same problem whether using the stock or swype keyboard.
I will dry the phone out more, between uses to see if ridding the phone of any excess moisture helps.
Any ideas on the problem and solution?
I don't have TEP. Given that the phone is rooted and probably has wet damage indications, would Sprint repair the screen or digitizer if I paid the $35? The phone is five weeks old.
If not, would self-repair with a digitizer bought off the internet likely fix the problem? Or is the problem likely to be elsewhere upstream of the digitizer?
TIA

Yeah, these screens don't do too well with the least bit of water/moisture on them. As long as you dried it thoroughly you should be in the clear. Glad to hear it worked out

Usually, and I mean usually, these things are dried for a couple of days. With batteries pulled.
Get access to a real desiccator with something like Drierite, have them suck all the all air out with a water aspirator, and leave it in for a few hours.
That ought to do it.
I went Jet Skiing with my EVO a while back, and got it completely soaked. The phone went completely dead, so I took out the battery and let it dry. After drying in the sun for a while, I turned it on, and it was able to boot, but my entire screen was a different color with blotches of water marks. I tried drying it out in the sun some more, putting it in rice, you name it. Nothing worked, but it ended up fixing itself after a few days. The water marks just slowly went away, now it is completely back to normal. I hope its the same case with yours. My EVO has the OLED screen, not the Super LCD.
Has nobody here learned the "bag of rice" trick? Put a handful or two of dry rice into a ziplock bag. Take your battery out of your phone, leave the cover off and put all of it in the bag of rice. Leave it for 24 hours. It's worked for everyone I know almost every time.
Now, jetskiing with your phone might be a bit much, but it'll fix a phone dropped in a toilet and rescued fairly quickly.
The dead zone problem came back and now I have discovered it is a whole strip running up and down the length of the screen pass through the W and S keys in portrait mode; if I use the phone in landscape mode with the keyboard on that side, the whole lower strip of keys do not work. (The temp solution is the type in landscape on the other side.)
I drove to the market the moment it happened and got instant rice to dry it out in. Later I got Damp-Rid from Home Depot.
I haven't seen a real dessicator since chem lab back in college. I do have a food saver vacuum sealer.... if i could find the missing hose part I lost!
One other problem with the display is it being washed out and streaky (vertically) sometimes upon boot. This started happening BEFORE the dunk; I'm still seeing it from time to time. Rebooting once or twice usually fixes it.
Man I hope your phone recovers! Stories like this make me sad.

nabbed, that's brilliant. i've been using Damp-Rid, your aspirator idea led me to use the Food Saver system to speed the drying proces. I stuck the phone and damp rid dessicant in a FS food container and sucked all the air out. I'll leave it overnight and see what happens.

I lost the official red battery. Been using replacements. And I didn't pay attention to the moisture indicators before the accident, so I don't know any color changes. I just see several red stickers on the red plastic inside the phone. The only obvious water indicator is a slightly opaque plastic chamber that seems to have a rubber gasket around it. It's located to the right of the camera. When the phone was wet you could see water sloshing inside. Now that the phone is largely dry, you can see a few small droplets. It doesn't seem to have another purpose other than to hold water.
That small chamber your talking about is the speaker. If you play music and put your finger over it, you'll lose almost all sound.

I think you mean TEP, and no it is not $100 for a replacement screen. For a non liquid damaged phone it is Free with any ESRP or TEP on the account.
IF, any customer has not been paying the $4 for ESRP or the $7 for TEP the repair fee is $35 for screen repair with the option to add TEP after repair...but again...not for liquid damage. Liquid damage is something we do not repair around or for, we consider the phone Damaged Beyond repair and set you up with the # and website for Asurion insurance for the replacement.
The plans changed around 4 months back.

OK, let me clarify: Like I said before, if you have TEP or not, the STORE will not touch a liquid damaged phone. You can order a replacement phone through Asurion for $100 if you do have TEP, you're ****ed if you don't.

Wet Screen Protector = Broken Galaxy Nexus

After putting on a wet screen protector, my phone is f***ing broken. The power button doesn't work. Needless to say, I'm pretty upset right now. Everyone thinking about a wet screen protector, please take note.
UPDATE: After using a hair dryer and giving it some time, the phone appears to be 100% functional. Hopefully this keeps up.

After using a hair dryer on it, there are now random responses to the power button, which I wasn't getting before. I have no rice and it's too late to buy some right now, but I currently have it in a ziplock bag full of pasta. Going to drink some bourbon to fall asleep and hope I wake up to some good news.
Everyone, PLEASE BEWARE OF USING WET SCREEN PROTECTORS!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, please believe me, I didn't soak the thing, or do anything crazy. The phone was off when I put the protector on, and after doing it, the power button didn't work. After I pulled the battery and put it back in, the phone automatically turned back on, but the power button was completely unresponsive. Every time I put the battery back in, the phone would automatically turn on. It *seems* to be working now after using a hair dryer, but to be safe, I have the phone in a bag of pasta right now.
Looks like I'm off to Verizon tomorrow for some of their non-wet screen protectors, assuming my phone is okay (I imported the GSM model too, so this is extra awful). This just isn't worth it.

It might just be that the few remaining physical buttons are especially sensitive to water damage?
I actually prefer wet screen protectors, I seem to end up with far fewer bubbles than the dry type. I applied one to the Motorola Xoom and am extremely happy with the result. Seeing the 10" screen on that made me cry thinking about all the bubbles I was going to end up with, but a week later and it's practically perfect.
I've order a dry screen protector for my Galaxy Nexus, getting more and more paranoid by the minute that I'm going to scratch my latest pride and joy.

Yup. Battery was pulled. As soon as I put it back in after putting on the screen protector, the phone turned on automatically.....this was the first sign that something was screwed.
This exact same thing happen to me. It has gotten better but not 100 percent.
It has been about a week and a half. The power button can work for a few hours then it acts up. The only thibg that really bothers me is that taking screen shots is almost impossabile.
thats strange as hell...
i do tons of installs with zagg screen protectors all day and never once had a problem. hell, i soak the living crap out of most of them. except for cell phones, most of them i do them dry and just lay em down perfectly.
Yes I know with the screen protector solution Yea that sucks put the phone in a open container with the pasta since you don't have any rice keeping it in a zip lock bag prolonges the moisture.

Sorry to rub it in, but from experience trying to baby something too much will just end up with more hassle for you.

Sorry dude, but you're WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY wrong here. There is no bigger hater of screen protectors than me. Check out some of the threads on screen protectors where I've said this. I hate them, and didn't use one on my OG Droid or my Nexus S. I owned each of those for a full year, got zero scratches on my OG Droid, and one minor one on my Nexus S. Also, everything seems to be working fine at the moment.

From experience I wait at least 8 hours or more for wet applications.........always works fine
IMO, you're the one to blame in this case as you powered on your device too early. I could be wrong.....but it seems like the most likely reason
sent from Mt Olympus
This thread wasn't about passing blame. I just wanted to bring it to other people's attention. I very well may be the one to blame. Although I will say that I watched the instruction video of the company I bought the screen from (BSE), and they made zero mention of waiting to turn the phone on after application.
Just bought a screen protector at XO Skins after a minor scratch (2 weeks of use). So: battery out and wait for about eight hours (leave it over night?) seem to be the tips.
Yes, that seems to be the takeaway so far (other than not using them). As I said, after a few hours, my phone is working fine. If I would have left it overnight, I probably would never have even seen the problem.

[Q] Screen problems after fixing phone

Good day dear xda-developers community,
I have a very strange problem, searching the net did not bring any results so I thought I'd ask the guys here, perhaps somebody has had a similar problem as well.
A couple of months ago my video card broke, I could start up my phone but had a lot of artefacts so I brought it to the store I bought it at and they sent it out for repairs under warranty conditions. I got the phone back and I had no artefacts anymore so I was more than happy.
A couple of days after that I noticed a scratch on the screen, a small one but still quiet noticeable. The phone was never dropped and always carried in the pocket, so I thought to my self "ohh well, I guess this could happen".
Now though, a couple of weeks using the phone I have a strange feeling that the screen that was put on my phone after replacement isn't Gorilla Glass at all, it feels weird when you touch it, not as smooth and there is A LOT of grease that stays on the phone, never really noticed any in a whole year using the phone before, plus the proximity sensor doesn't always work, when I bring the phone to my ear I have to do it a couple of times before it goes out.
Now here's what I am wondering, is there any way to check whether the screen is Gorilla Glass or not, and that the company hasn't just put some cheap replacement glass on my phone to save up money?
Anybody got any idea what's up?
well the easiest thing to do it putting two HOX side by side and compare the two screens i guess
Go back to the shop and demand a detailed repair overview. Your entitled to one since its your phone !
Or let them take it in for another repair/research. Just dont take no for an answer.

I guess we were both duped and had some clone screen put into our phone instead of the original HOX screen, which really sucks, cause I don't even know how to prove that, also I noticed that I have 2 yellow spots on the left-top side of the screen, they are very well visible on the white background and they get even Yellower as the phone gets hotter.

At first it was small and didnt know what or how it got there and now it got a little longer and it is very weird. Its hard to distinguish what it exactly it is. Could it possibly be a defective sign because it is still smooth and its not sign of a scratch more so internally. Its kind of hard to actually take a picture to show the weird design in good quality but im worried that it can keep getting longer. What should i do?

Could it possibly be the digitizer separating from the LCD? Weird looking nonetheless.

How does that happen & can Tmobile replace this for free since i never dropped it or anything and its basically internal.
Looks like the digitizer or something in the screen is detaching. I'd ask for a new phone.

If you bought it within the past 30 days, you can get a replacement through buyers remorse. If its after 30 days, you will have to do a warranty replacement and then you would get a factory refurbished device.
