[Q] Replace broken screen suggestions? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

So I broke my screen glass. Decided to remove glass and digitizer to see how hard it might be to replace.
Its not too hard. My secret was using a knife to pry, and a large magnifying glass out in the sun to heat the work area.
I found a replacement vendor on eBay. Before I order and attempt to reassemble, anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

[Q] Replacment Glass, is it possible?

So i found a replacement glass for the Galaxy S2 t989 on ebay for 18$. Is it possible to replace JUST the glass without having to replace the entire unit(glass & Digitizer)? My LCD is not shattered and the touch works perfectly.
I was told that it is possible but very risky as you may shatter the digitizer trying to remove the glass. I was told they were machine pressed together.

As a person who has done several screen repairs across several devices, it IS possible to replace just the outer glass (digitizer) without replacing the inner glass (LCD, or LED in our case). However, it is extremely difficult, highly precise work that requires a heat gun or blow dryer at the very least to heat the adhesive. If you can get the shattered glass out without damaging the LED, you're good. Watch for ribbon cables. It is much easier to buy the digitizer and LED/LCD as a single piece and install it. This way you dont have to worry about dirt or fingerprints between your digitizer and LED screen, and usually results in a more satisfactory repair. For more detailed instructions, find a tutorial video for disassembly or PM me if you have questions.

Replacing the screen?

Hello,
I dropped my One X the other day and the screen cracked in several places. I ordered an LCD and a new glass for the phone, but all the tutorials seem to stop once the phone gets taken apart. When I get the LCD, do I just put adhesive on the glass, stick it on, and put it back together? Or is there a different procedure I need to do?
Thanks.
LCD and glass should be bonded together, i.e., one unit, already.
When I ordered the LCD off Amazon, it didnt say that it came with glass. It would be great if it did though. If not, I still have an extra glass front. Would small drops of Gorilla Glue be strong enough to keep it adhered to the LCD panel?

Screen glue

Hey, noob here, I purchased an S3 with a cracked screen in order to replace it. Taking off the screen wasnt fun but my problem is that I didnt manage to leave the glue from the previous screen which, from what I have been reading, is necessary in order to keep the new screen sticking to the device. I called samsung but they could not help me with any work short of $170. Is there is anything on the market that can replace the glue?
Thanks!
It's not possible to have the screen exactly as before if you just remove the glass. You can order 2mm double sided tape by 3M which goes around the border of the glass. To get the adhesive between the glass and digitizer you would need to have it vacuumed in.
From personal experience I can tell you that your screen will still work, however there is a small space between the glass and digitizer. This does mean that the touchscreen isn't quite as responsive as it was before.
The only other option is buying the glass/digitizer/LED assembly, which is about $170 to buy. If you do choose this option you should pay a little extra and get the one that comes with the bezel and everything as it will save you a lot of time and messing around.

[Q] What is that tinted glass sheet between the lcd and glass??? PLEASE HELP!!!

I was attempting to replace the glass on an s3 and in the process separated the very thin tinted glass sheet that sits on top of the lcd. It has a flex cable that wraps around the LCD and plugs into a port on the backside. The LCD somehow remained unscathed and still dimly lights up but I want to replace that film so it looks right. I havent, for the life of me, been able to find this part.
Does anyone have an idea what it is or where I can find it? Im guessing it is the actual digitizer, or maybe some kind of polarizing film??
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys and gals,
Jesse
Can't replace it. If you did not purchase the glass and digitizer all together. You have that glue to lay the glass down and that's it. But it will never look right and forget trying to see the screen out in daylight. The right way is to replace it all, once you separate the glass from digitizer it won't be ever be the same.

Hi,
Have never had much luck replacing the digitizer only, mainly due to the fact that the LCD is bonded to the digitizer and by replacing the digitizer only I have found that you can get dust between glass and LCD. If this doesnt bother you I've found that any instant adhesive is ok but use the smallest amount in the corners and in the middle of the longest edge - again dont use too much or it will run under the glass when you press edges down and will be visible. I have found it is best to buy a LCD/Digitizer combo with a midframe which comes with new 3M adhesive but you may need to use instant adhesive as the digitizer can separate from the frame later
