Unfortunately my friend this is not a hold my hand and guide me forum. You need to do some reading and learning like the rest of us. We all had to do it and we all were new at this once. So please read and search then read and search some more before you end up coming back to us requesting help to fix your phone.
Never attempt anything without some kind of basic knowledge of what you are trying to do.
To get anything higher than 2.3.7 means you have to go custom rom like JB or ICS. So my first advice to you would be reading up on how to get your bootloader unlocked since its a DHD. If its an inspire then read up on rooting if its still supported.
Good luck and enjoy the learning.

I agree...
To op. Please look through the forums, people have already done lots and lots of work already for you, creating guides and tools and roms and recoveries.
Now I don't want to sound mean, but at the end of the day your going to have to do all the work rooting and flashing yourself, this stuff is not easy for beginners (noobs) your going to have to do some reading and learning.
However this does not mean that some one is not going to help you after you've learned some skills.

[Q] New EVO w/2.2... where to start?

Ok, so I'm not new to rooting or flashing... but I'm used to Samsung devices. I have a rooted Epic.
I just picked up an EVO for my kiddo, and was hoping you guys could give me a quick list of the newest/most efficient recovery, root method, ROM, etc. Please post up what ya got. The phone comes out of the box with Froyo 2.2. I know everyone has their own opinions, but I don't want to risk bricking a phone by using an old root method that's been found out or something.
Thanks everyone!

Not new to rooting and flashing yet you dont know this is the developement forum not Q&A? As for a quick list of the newest/most efficient recovery, root method, ROM, etc.... Thats pretty much what the dev forum is... or is supposed to be anyway, except people keep insisting on starting threads here featuring lame questions....
Everything you are asking for on on the Evo Wiki page. The link to it is one of the stickies on this particular forum:

Thank you, rugedraw. I really appreciate it. I know my request came off a bit lazy but I was typing it up right before I left for work. Thanks a bunch.
I rooted my Samsung Epic in just a few mins, but this Evo is a PITA. I've run through the unrevoked 3.21 a few times and it just doesn't complete. I've followed all of the instructions and it runs, but doesn't finish.
I'm not sure where to go from here because it seems everyone else is having no trouble at all. I am currently on a brand new EVO with 3.30.651.2
No one is willing to point me in the right direction?

I don't know where it is, but there are posts on how you can root the 3.30 build, it just can't be rooted the same way you root a 3.29 build.
Sorry bout all the dicks on here but I actually just rooted my evo running 2.2 froyo with unrevoked3 it took 2 attempts but works perfect just go with that and you'll be smooth sailing.

[Q] HTC Sense 3.0 for my HT Desire HD?? Please help!!

Hello everyone!!
I have the following question, I hope someone can help? I am using an HTC DHD amd would like to have the new sense 3 fully working on it. So I found this article that describes a rom for tbe inspire 4g and figured that the inspire and dhd are actually the same, the rom can work, right??! But, then I found this interesting fact, that rooting is impossible for desire hd that runs on an official 2.3.3. Is this true? Please help, I am ver new to all of this, but very want to learn!!
Thanks in advance
Danny
You don't want Sense 3. It's even more bloated and laggy than its predecessor.

Are you crazy? it's already ported to dhd.it's fully working.and it's rootable.from where the hell you collect this info.check dhd thread.
flash a sense 3.0 rom like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115312
His question was also if he could root 2.3.3.
It depends in your baseband. 1.72 etc. Go to setting and about (info) to find it. I think I saw a thread in dev section to now root 2.36. But I could be wrong. Check through the development forum.

Cool! so just an extra info for ya. Almost 2 weeks back there was no such thread to root any DHD above than 2.37 software number. the OP of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152233
He figured it out not only 2.37 can be rooted but also with any other different software numbers. If you ever feel like rooting your phone and enjoy some custom ROMs. Follow the link.

Best rooting method?

I've always rooted my HTC, recently my Ev3D. I found from past experience that certain rooting methods is not too friendly with ease of flashing roms...
Question: I'm not in a rush to root so, should I wait until sprint/samsung release the no signal bug update or is there a safe and stable root method available now?
How many root methods are available now and which is best route?

First, I apologize for posting in the wrong dev section (lesson learned - from Jarred)
Second, I read and read and googled and read androidfurums and xda forums and found too many solutions. Info is too scattered and every root method thread have their own following with praises.
I simply wanted few members to maybe give me names of root method and I was going to read and read and read some more and then make an EDUCATED decision. Since you rather "proudly" rant and make new members feel welcome by claiming an asshole title... I THANK YOU.
So remember, 1 of the thanks on your thank meter will always be there from me ... thanks for being an asshole, have a wonderful day lol

There currently is no "superior root method." At the end of the day if you are rooted it doesn't really matter how you went about it.
There is a small amount of controversy currently about the rooted-kernels breaking something and causing a LOS (loss of service), but we have no proof that the rooted kernels are or aren't causing the problem. (I, personally, think it has nothing to do with the kernel as I got a few LOS bone stock. YMMV)
Now, you can wait for someone to find an exploit in the stock kernel if that makes you more comfortable be my guest...you might be waiting a while, maybe forever as there is no need.
So, no matter what "method" you use they all have the same goal in mind, get SU into /system/apps...the current "stock rooted" method involves flashing a rooted kernel, flashing a root.zip (to install SU) and then flashing the stock kernel back. Now you have Super User installed *and* the stock kernel. Poof, you are rooted, you are stock, everyone wins...right?

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to say hi to everyone, I have been jailbreaking iPhones and iPods for years but I decided to switch to an android so I went with a Galaxy S3
I am new to the ROM/rooting experience and I am looking forward to learning!
I did root the phone but I have not flashed any ROMS yet. I want to find the best one out there for the T-mobile S3 before I flash my first one. Could anyone tell me which, if any, improve signal strength? I have very bad signal in my area and was hoping that I could improve that this way, Gotta appreciate all of the developers who put so much time and work into this stuff for our benefit!
Well I would recommend Wicked rom if you want stock experience, if you want aosp, most are based on CyanogenMod 10 builds. If you want better reception, there is a flashable modem that SHOULD improve reception, but its dangerous I've read, I have not done that, but its what I've read. Some heads up tips, backup in recovery before flashing anything, read the original post of anything you'll flash and search before posting, you'll probably find what you need
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Where did you hear that flashing modems is dangerous? As long as you follow directions and don't use one for another device its really no more dangerous than flashing a kernel or recovery.
If you guys want to learn more about modems this thread is as good as any place to start!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880987
Just please make sure you read and understand what you are doing before trying this or any other mod!
@op
The thread I linked to is stickied in the development section. Next to it is the firmware thread. I suggest keeping a copy of the stock fw on hand in case you run into problems. Sometimes odin flashing back to stock is the only solution.
There is no best rom. What is the best for you will most likely not be the best for me. You should get an idea of what you are looking for base-wise. Try a cm or aokp and see if you prefer it over stock. Say you prefer stock, then focus on the roms that are based on stock builds.
Read the op thoroughly! Find one that has features you want. Then while downloading read the first few pages and the last 5 or so pages to get an idea about any bugs or other info.
The rom you choose will rarely have any bearing on signal stregnth. There are lots of modems you can choose from.
Finally, do NOT flash anything that was made for another device!
Good luck and welcome!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Well as actually you can flash most att ROMs to the t-999 as long as they are not updating the modem then you should be fine
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I'd flash the cm10 latest nightly

Welcome all member of Xda-developers forum
Nice to meet you
As far as modems go it is going to be a testing process. While most modem updates are aimed at better signal it is not always the cases do to area. So what gives me the best signal my not get you the best signal so try one and run a speed test use it for a day then do another speed test before changing the modem again until you find what works for you.

I'll take a leap of faith. Which recovery are you using. What method did you use to flash recovery. If I were you I would start simple and flash a touch wiz 4.1.1 ROM. Also, 2 things to remember before someone else tells you. 1 - CAPS aren't necessary for someone to read your post. 2 - asking for a ROM recommendation is generally discouraged due to what I like may not be what you want, per xda rules. For rom info just goto the development section and read. Find one you are interested in. Make a backup using your recovery method, follow guidelines set by developer and flash. Google and you tube are your friends when learning to flash. You might want to find a app backup utility like titanium backup to restore your apps after you flash your new ROM. Then read, read, and read some more and when you think your ready read again. Flashing wrong ROM can cause a bricked (locked and unusable phone). Also, if you were sorry for the caps you could have change prior to submitting post. Good luck.

The best way to learn something is to read ROM's first posts
First posts of many roms don't give much information actually... You'll probably have to read many ''first posts'' to get a proper understanding. People on here are annoying about telling new people how to get started because they in all likelihood learned by themselves though searching and reading. Flashing a new rom is easy but there is a learning curve and you will need troubleshooting skills, so the more you read and know the better!

We are all learning by making mistakes You think why I know more than e.g. OP of this thread? Because I'm too impatient to wait until somebody will answer my questions! I was doing things by myself, bricking phones, restoring them back and gaining knowlegde! So not more experienced users are "bad" because they won't tell everything, NEW USERS ARE TO LAZY TO SEARCH, MAKING MISTAKES AND LEARN!!!

Don't worry!
Anyone coming to XDA forums for the first time, is "noob" and all the other names...
What IS important - you have "sticky" threads that will explain quite a lot. BUT, you'll have to read and read and read until you'll know what and where to ask... Well, we all learn until we die...
So, yes, read. Search and search and read again! Or, if you're in real trouble, send PM (you know what that is, right?)...
Regarding your question, well, you'll just have to look around and decide what you'll do with your hov :fingers-crossed:
But, to be on "friendly side",
read that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598964 and that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1713257 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869667 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806152 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996665. I KNOW - a lot to read, but...
Oh, don't just pick a rom like pants or shirt, go through all of them, read and read all OPs until you're sure which one to put on your hov. And before you do that for the first time, learn how to do that again and again...
