To Root Or Not To Root - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So my question to you all is it worth it too root your device... Should you take the risk... or should you take the safe way and stay stock....

No one can answer this but you. If you are unsure then I would advise you not to do it. Educate yourself on the pros and cons and determine if it will hold any value for you.

The way you phrased your post sounded like you were asking of you should root or not. And I think this is kind of a silly question to ask on a dev forum when the answer is so obvious. I believe that rooting is the only way to bring out the full potential. Even better is the development of custom roms.

It's a must for me.

Well as personal experience I would say ROOOT!!, but only if you feel confident enough arround the system that you wont screw it up

Don't root. You will get pregnant and die

As mentioned, do some research and decide what you need to do with your phone. Do you want features not available with stock? An Engineer at Qualcomm just stated at XDAevCon 2013 yesterday that a custom ROM can be one of the best ways to increase battery life, however ERD Jcase stated that it opens security risks so he chooses not to root. The choice is yours. But read, read, read before you decide.

I will never own an Android phone that is stock. Once I took the plunge back with my Inspire 4G, I couldn't run stock. It would drive me crazy. Too many features and Roms to try.

Talking about risk, theres no risk if u follow and read the steps very carefully, although there are largely benefits of rooting, on battery, resources, space, and ofcourse using some rooted apps like root call blocker, titanium backup, greenify, and many more.....

Your question was already answered here on your very on posting. If that is not enough information for you please type that question on Google or yahoo and pick and choose from the results. There are so many articles, blogs, and forums on this that you should not need to ask what the benefits are.

You have to understand that they are trying to clean up these forums from the many and many useless questions and posts that have been asked and answered many times for years; What are the benefits of rooting being one of them, which actually takes longer to type in using a simple google search, than to find the answer.
They feel here that these types of posts only crowd the forums, and only get in the way of people's searches for more useful information.

LOL, okay for one don't get pissy around here, especially to someone that has far more experience with the site than you do.. That's very frowned upon at xda. Yes you are a noob, and in the video it said do not click the new thread button unless what you are asking cannot be found in a thread that already exists, and if the thread doesn't directly answer your question, don't make a new thread. Ask the damn question in a thread that already exists or pm a member that looks like they know what they are doing. But do NOT make a new thread unless it is absolutely necessary. You have no idea how many threads like this are being made that do not need to be made. We are getting sick of them. All it takes is a few minutes of looking around. Hell whenever you named this thread when you first created it the search system showed you similar threads that have already been made.
Use the search system.
Look around.
Don't click the new thread button unless you are 100% sure that there are no threads that answer your question.
EDIT : Also, DO NOT make stupid threads, like how do I use XXX's toolkit or something like that. The xda community will not spoon feed noobs. You guys have to learn like we did. Trial and error. Trust me. Once you learn how to use things without having to ask questions you will feel better.

No, the reason people get annoyed about a thousand different threads on the same topic couldn't be because it just makes it that much harder for people who actually WANT to do the legwork and use the search bar.. That couldn't be it...

[Help]Wanting to flash to different carrier

So I'm on bs sprint and still have a little over a year for my contract to be up so if all's well I will be flashing me and my gfs phones to another carrier and buying out of our cantract since we're basically paying 200 dollars for the same service. I'm wondering if anybody is willing to help me out with the flashing process (this will be my 1st time) by directing me to the best carrier to flash to how toos and so fourth. I'm currently rooted and my gf isn't but I can have that done in minutes when it's time. I'm hoping to go to virgin boost or cricket if anyone knows anything about flashing to any of these carriers. Can online help? Please and thanks

Actually edfunkycold has been extremely helpful. No I'm not trying to be confrontational. My apologizes in advance if that's the way it sounds. The threads that edfunkycold pointed you to have the information necessary to complete what you want to do. There is going to be quite a bit of reading, and research involved. Especially as this is your first time. The best advice I can give you is read, read, and read some more. If you have any questions search the thread that pertains to what you are trying to accomplish. If you still cannot find the answer post up in that thread. Someone is usually around to help, in almost every thread. BTW, yes I do know how hard it is to search for answers to questions sometimes . Even though I've been around for a while, I still use the search function quite a bit. Sometimes more than I'd like to admit.

I also feel like posting new threads helps other noobs find things easier than finding something that was posted a year ago. No offense taken at all. But read what you wrote. You feel that by starting a new thread it helps new noobs find it. You don't think that adds to the already hundreds of threads which exist, many of them repeated questions on the same topic? Now that is going g to make it even more difficult for a new person to find the thread with the correct information.
Keep in mind the longer threads with more activity are usually the ones with all the right answers. Some reading and searching will be necessary. Within the thread itself you can search that specific thread to get the information you need and the results come back in order from newest post to oldest post.
I search every day, I search mostly for people that are looking for answers. Keep in mind I do it all from my phone mobile so I only use the app.
Food for thought.

Yes I understand that but thanks to people like u and the others I mentioned links are posted to those threads right on the pages we often look for. Even tho there are repeat questions not everyone has the same desire there fore when the links a provided we get helped as much as we can by this. This isn't a dispute or argument in anyway but a "noobs stand point of thinking" if that's what u wanna call it. Maybe this explains it or maybe it doesn't but it shows we have a high regard for this Site instead of going to another forum or Google searching our issues (which most leads back to here). This is a good Site and everyone is loved here especially by us noobs. I'm not sure if u seen it but a while ago I wrote a thank you post cause what u guys do here is awesome and if it wasn't for u guys my phone would be plain old vanilla my mind bored and a bunch of noobs lost hopelessly. Maybe if we can get some filters on here maybe for dates or key words or different updates there wouldn't be soo many repeat threads. U said yourself u search using your phone (as do I 99% of the time) how long does it take u to usually find a thread you've never seen on a topic u barely have any info about?

If you go Boost or Virgin you will need a donor phone,If you go Cricket you will not as they allow flashed phones on their system.Crickets service is OK but with a flashed phone you will always be 3G no 4G. The S3 is a fairly easy phone to flash you can do it with QPST. Or since you are in louisville the corporate stores can flash it for you pretty cheap.

Being polite and considerate doesn't cost you anything. Having new people turned away by comments such as yours does not promote the good will of xda, and gives a sense that it is forbidden to ask any questions at all.
Simply stating an answer to the question with a sidenote that there is another place to ask such questions would be prefered.
And, It IS ambiguous as to whether or not it is possible to convert the system.
While there are numerous threads here talking about it and stating such, you would not want to simply download some rom based on the wishes of others to make it happen before it's time. For somebody new, the threads that have such discussion may very well look like they have it converted and ready to go, where others state the opposite.

Isn't this section called "q and a HELP and troubleshooting"? I am posting my legitimate question in the proper section because of how vague the other posts have been. Those who aren't willing to help, why post? Is it really ruining your day to glance over a question? Instead you waste your precious time trying to beat your chest on the internet. Thanks have been given to those who were helpful. I appreciate you clearing up the issue.

Is it possible if I bought the stock LG V500, to root and install GPE V510?

I have a LG V500 as well(coming from Nexus 10) and after looking at all(well most) of the threads, it is not clear which for me
means the answer is NO(or we would have had a definitive guide to do that ).
For now, I am looking for the most stable custom rom with least issues. CM or Mahdi atm
Mahdi works great and has a lot of options.
If you have AOSP you have CyanogenMod, CarbonROM, AOKP, ParanoidAndroid, SlimROM.. all of which have every feature of AOSP + the same looks as AOSP + extras.
GPE is cool if you're not a rooting custom ROM kind of person in which case you should have just purchased a GPE G-Pad to have stock AOSP

Being polite and considerate doesn't cost you anything. Having new people turned away by comments such as yours does not promote the good will of xda, and gives a sense that it is forbidden to ask any questions at all.

It's not even worth it anymore, dude. Members of XDA have huge ego and pride issues and it doesn't seem like it's going away any time soon.
I agree, there is no reason for the hostility. Politely answer the question and let him/her know to search next time. One more thread asking the same question isn't going to break the internet but people don't understand that.. they'd rather be know-it-all assholes.
Honestly, you are better off getting v500 And installing custom kit Kat. This way you can switch back to lg if you prefer it.

Best advise, gives you more options. As it is the v500 gets more support. I wish the device was more popular but I'm still grateful for what we have.
