When i first rooted my phone I was able to get aokp mr1 and google apps to the root of the internal sd card, but I dont remember how. Using android file transfer I am unable to put any files into the internal memory of the phone. It allows me to put into folders, but upon rebooting into recovery the file is not visible.
On a side note i just flashed cm10.2 by putting the .zip into the download folder, and flashing the custom rom using rom manager app on the phone without rebooting into recovery. I however dont like this because in recovery you can delete all user data and such. When flashing it directly through the app you dont have that option.
My question is how do I add files to the root of the internal sd card using a Mac. Also how can i delete the older roms of the internal sd card.
I've been using the search and google for the past hour and kind find specifically what I need. Everything i've seen is for PC.

Thanks for all the replies. I gave up with android file transfer since it wont let you drag and drop to anything but a folder which wont work.... I'm using rom manager for my boot into recovery. I ended up using an app called FTP server on the phone, and a software called Transmit on the Mac, that allowed me to drag and drop into the actual sd card instead of a folder. I rebooted into recovery and was able to flash the rom from there.
Glad you figured it out... But If you drag to just the right spot, it won't make you put it in a folder, I managed to get several ROMs and APKs on the root of sdcard0.

Here's a screenshot, drag to where the yellow is, if you put it over other FILES in the root, it'll go in the root, too. If you drag it over FOLDERS, it'll go in a folder you hovered over.

Ok thanks, the screenshot isn't working for me but I will check to see if that your technique works for me. What rom are you running? I got aokp milestone 2, I like it but my battery life really sucks. I dunno if its related to the rom or not, because I know the nexus doesnt have a very good battery to begin with.

I just got a fresh (new) OEM 2100mAh extended battery, world of difference, it's better than most phones' battery lives.
I'm on CM10.2, and I usually don't have to charge every day, rather every other with low-moderate usage.
People ***** day and night about this ROM's battery life and this kernel's "vast improvement".... Whatever, none of that **** worked out for me (okay, maybe I got 5 more minutes out of my battery), the extended battery did.

From what I know, on Android 4.2, system moves all the file in sdcard directory to sdcard0 directory. This means that all the apps that rely heavily on sdcard directory will not recognize the files now. I heard that you can simply just cut and paste all the file, but good luck with that. It'll take forever

Can't view them or can't pull them to PC?
I read that CWM was creating a /0/ partition every time you flash, so if you flash several times you could end up looking like /0/0/0/0/0/sdcard/. Kouche is supposedly fixing the issue, maybe he already did. In addition to not finding your media, if you needed to restore a backup in a pinch you would be effed. Only passing on what I read.

On the first boot after reflash, the media scanner needs to go through one full run-through, and then your media apps have to clue in. Give it another reboot or two and it'll be fine.
However it sounds like you impatiently diddled with it as many flashers do... so I have no idea what state it's in by now
I had the same problem on my nexus 7, just deleting everything on sdcard except for the 0 folder and copying everything in 0 to sdcard did the trick for the data itself, but I still have to start over with games while the files are there. Trying to figure that one out now.
I think my pictures are actually corrupted though. Its not finding a lot of my music either.

This happened to me before and I ended up having to restore. I thought they had fixed it with the update, but apparently not. Even after I delete the backup I made, I never get the space back. I lost 3 GIGS of space. I've looked using a file explorer and everything and still can't figure out where the backup is (it doesn't show in ROM manager itself anymore after deleting ) . any tips? I will hate my life if I have to restore again because of this retarded problem....

Since you are using Rom Manager I am assuming you are runing CWM Recovery. If that is the case the files are located in \sdcard\clockworkmod (or something close to that) if you want to remove all your backups delete everything in that folder. I personally would use ES File Explorer you can check the size of the folders. If there is a "blob" folder in forementioned location most of the backup resides in there.
If all of the above is true for you, you may want to look into installing TWRP for recovery and goo manager. It's pretty simple to do. I can help you out with that let me know.
Thank you so much, I am using es explorer, but there's no obvious folder taking that much space. I looked in clockworkmod folder and there is only a download folder, and its only like 16 megs. But when I go to settings and storage it still shows that 3 gigs missing. I even went in this app called 1 tap cleaner, and it also shows me with only 1 gig left (I had 4 gigs before doing the backup). I just don't understand why this only happens to me repeatedly, I've searched Google and cant find the problem. There has to be some reason for this, I can't believe I'm going to have to restore again ,I should have learned my lesson the first time ....

TWRP is a touch-based custom recovery, that basically handles the same as CWM. It's a recovery, not an app.
Check out this screenshot, the graphic Chart seems to show that I have four gigs, not one. And if you add up all the categories and how much space they use, it doesn't add up to 13 gigs, there is three gigs gone in thin air. this app screwed up my tablet, what a headache.....

Since you're rooted, check out "[root]/data/media/clockworkmod" with a file explorer. Not on the Sd card, on the root of the entire system. You should see folders like "system" there. That's where the backups are stored, at least on my N7. I'm not sure ES Explorer can go there. If it can't, try Total Commander (free) or Root Explorer (not free).

hmm, strange...works well for me...it shouldn't need root access for that...might be a file explorer thing...try some other explorers, too. Maybe you can get a hold of Root Explorer.

Boom! Root Explorer worked. I was able to delete that Blobs folder and now I have 5.12 gigs free... Should I delete anything else, like that clockworkmod folder? Will that do any harm? There is also a backup folder in the clockworkmod folder, should I delete that? I really dont want anymore to do with this crappy Rom Manager app. Ive purchased Titanium and Im just using that going forward. Thanks you saved me a painful restore!

You can delete the entire clockworkmod folder, it won't affect anything else. CWM Recovery creates it to store backups, but it has no influence on anything else.

Titanium is only good for backing up apps and settings and some are saying it's not really good for that anymore.
Install GooManager from the play store (it's free) open it, tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner, tap on install open recovery script. It will then install TWRP as your recovery program. You can manage your system backups from inside recovery including deleting them. If you ever want to manually delete a certain recovery while in the Android system (regular running conditions) Use your favorite file explorer to navigate to \sdcard\TWRP and the files will be in a subfolder within.

You could always lock and unlock. That'll wipe up the mess. Or find a superwipe flashable zip... but I don't know if there is one for the N7 yet.

Awesome, got it and made a backup. If you don't mind, can I just clarify how I would use the backup in the future? Basically I would copy the backup folder to my computer to save it, and if i ever return to stock, I would then just root, install goo manager, use it to install twrp, transfer the backup folder back to tablet, them launch twrp and choose the option to restore the backup? Damnit, the backup isn't showing anywhere, even though three gigs of space is gone. I used es file explorer and it shows the Twrp folder empty. If I launch twrp, how do I manage the backups? I chose install to see if it shows the backup but I didn't didn't dish didnt see it. Something is wrong with my tablet, damn

OK I found it using total commander, i had to go in root, data, media, twrp. Just like with ROM manager. How come its installing the backups there on mine, but not you guys. Is it because Im on 4.2.1? How do I get twrp to see the backup?

Im not having much luck using Root Explorer to copy the folder to my sdcard, it says pasting for a couple minutes, then my screen shuts off and the tablet becomes unresponsive, so I end up having to reboot. I have no way to use or access this backup. This is nuts. I cant even get it to my computer, i cant access root from it, right?
Edit: Ok, after a lot of time and headaches, I finally got the backup folder pasted to my sdcard. Now twrp sees it and gives me the option to delete it. Only problem is, getting it onto my computer. Windows explorer still wont see the file, the same thing happens to me with my titanium backup folder too, it takes several tries and time to finally get windows to see it for some reason. I must be one of the few people to be doing backups and transferring them lately, I cant believe everyone else isnt dealing with this headache....
As an update, now that I moved the backup folder to the sdcard, now new backups are saving there automatically.

Today, I updated my GS III with the latest nightly for CM 10.1 and since then, I am running into a weird issue. I am unable to view any files in Windows or OS X when using an USB cable. The only files I am able to view are the zip files I transfered over. Everything else is missing. Even the CM10 file manager is unable to view any files but Linda File manager is able to view everything. When I boot into recovery and select to install from an internal zip, I only see the following:
0/
legacy/
obb/
Nothing else shows up including the zip files I have on the internal storage. The zip files is for things such as Google Apps. But all this installs and is viewable from the SD card.
I have root access, I have also reinstalled CWM and am running v5.5.0.4. I have USB debugging enabled.
I am really stubbed here and getting really frustrated. I am not sure what had happened to case this or what to do.
Any ideas or thoughts?
Well if you did your reading, you'd have seen that the partitions are messing up at the moment due to android 4.2 features. They're working on a 'fixed' twrp recovery at the moment.

Well I did do my reading, for several hours, and found absolutely nothing except for suggestions such as to reboot, disable and enable debugging, etc...And if no one ever asked any questions, even if it has been posted already, we would have a pretty dead forum.
I also have tried CM 10 again, build form a few nights ago that worked fine, and same issue persists. What doesn't make sense to me is that how also in recovery this issue is also happening.

Anyway, op, the answer to your question is that cm10.1 put everything on your internal SD into the "0" folder. Nothing got deleted, so just move them back and you're good.

Ah cool, you are correct, 0 has everything. Actually there are about 5 folders levels of folders called 0, so it is \internal\0\0\0\0\0\All the folders/files. This explains why going back to CM 10 (Android 4.1.2) why it still does not show up in recovery. I hadn't actually logged in the 3 folders that show up since they weren't popping up via USB.

I went back to 4.1.2 (JellyBam) after using 4.2.1 (PA ROM). But there's a 0 folder inside my internal memory folder which leads to all my real files (music, pics etc etc).
So it's like.
-sdcard0
.....-0 (Folder)
..........-DCIM
..........-Downloads
..........-Music
..........-Titanium Backup
..........-etc etc etc
.....+'Music' which is empty
.....+'Downloads' which is empty
.....+etc etc etc
I searched on XDA, but the only solutions I found were:
1. copy every file to my computer, delete the 0 file (or not) and then put the copied files from my computer onto my phone. But there was no progress in the copying process as it was freezing.
2. Format everything, recovery, and some other things I didn't understand.
So I came here asking for help. Hopefully someone knows any other answer.
P.S. I know I can just chance the location of my backed-up files from TB, so there's no problem in that case.
But it is just annoying and sometimes it confuses me.

I believe in 4.2 the /0 folder is the new location for the pseudo SD card instead of under /storage/
That's 4.2+ file structure to support multiuser and mentioned in dozens of threads. Just learn to live with it. Google knows what they're doing.

I went back to CM10 (4.1.2) from CM10.1 (4.2.1) and just found it easiest to backup all my files and format the storage. Windows wasnt seeing the storage correctly until after I did that.

What recovery are you using?
The issue is with resets and CWM recovery. The problem is your app back ups get covered under 0,0,0 and can't be restored, music apps can't see music, gallery can't see pics etc.
Switch to TWRP Open Recovery and the 0 problem goes away.
Best way to get your SD back in line is to use your PC to move everything back up where it should be. Hope this helps, freaked me out when I thought I lost my SD.

I think some of you aren't understanding the OP's question. He doesn't dislike the /0 file structure (or maybe he does, but I don't think that's the point he's making), he just doesn't want to keep it when downgrading to 4.1.2. That's perfectly understandable to me, and actually something I've been thinking about for a couple weeks.
OP- You have a few options. I think the simplest is to go ahead and flash a 4.1.2 ROM, then use a file explorer on the phone to cut from the /0 directory and paste straight into the main sdcard directory. Option 2 is to use a PC and cut and paste the same thing, but I don't know how quick it would be. Another possibility is to copy everything off your phone onto your PC, then format the storage on your phone, then copy everything from the PC back to /sdcard/. This is probably the cleanest and safest option, but also slowest. I'm sure there is also a way to do it with ADB, where you cut and paste from /0 to /sdcard/, but I'm no good with ADB so somebody else would have to give you the commands. ADB is most likely going to be the fastest method as far as file copy progress, but that's only a guess. I'm sure there are several other options I'm not aware of, but those are the ones I've thought of while thinking of doing this on my phone.

I went back to a 4.1 ROM at one point and it did not immediately move everything back where it could be seen even with the latest recovery. I found that the easiest fix was to plug the phone into my computer right after the first boot and then move the data to the right folders with adb. Very quick and painless. TWRP does the fix going from 4.1 to 4.2 very nicely.
Downgrading to 4.1.2 from 4.2.1
I'm downgrading because I'm have a ton of blue tooth issues. I'm currently backing up my SD to my laptop then from win explorer I'll copy everything from /0 to the top SD directory. It's not any fun at all.
I wonder how many people will actually use the multiple users on their phone/tablet?

For some strange reason i have the normal internal memory but also another one under the 0 folder inside of the internal memory. So now i have excessive memory lost because i have two of everything plus some other files/folders inside each memory unit. This is real confusing for me but i noticed it started after i installed JellyBeer, i switch back and forth between JellyBeer and stock and Vectus. Vectus and stock both use the same memory but jellyBeer has its own little thing goin on. TWRP also uses the second 0 folder as its main instead of the actual main one, ES Explorer uses the main one, SMS Backup And Restore uses the second one, MyBackup Root uses the main one after i set it to, and on and on with apps that deal with files. Only one that works right no matter what is music, even download folder is wrong. Any suggestions???, if u understand what im trying to say. Also theres another copy of everything in the data/media folder. So in total i have 3x as much space token from me.

Surprisingly I had the same issue. It was reading from two different spots but when I plugged into a computer it only read from one, I couldn't save all my stuff cause I couldn't get to it. The only way fix it is unroot back to stock and reroot the device. That's what I did anyway, and it fixed it. I think its from flashing ROMs cause it never happened before I gave cm a try. I hope this helps in any way.

The 0 folder is a feature of AOSP ROMs. It has something to do with the multiple user support of JB. When you flash an AOSP rom, it will create a "0" folder for that specific ROM. Even with an app like Root Explorer, getting into the standard SDCard folder will be basically impossible. I personally have not found a way to do this, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I could. Interestingly, the reverse is not true. If you flash a Stock ROM, a la Lifeless 14, you can go into any and all "0" folders. If you take the time, you can go into each and every one and delete it without any harm to your phone without having to do a factory reset.

just to throw it out there flash the original stock rom before going to lifeless... if you dont its not gonna work out well and u just have to be rooted all in all to see the "0" folder...
Well honestly that seems to be a lot of work for something simple if you have to partions and can only see the 0 folder simply use any root explorer and go to root>data>media and you will find the rest of you files there

I tried this and it did not work for me. Maybe an error in the flash?
Anyway, the way I detailed is the only way I have been able to access all data after having a "0" folder created.
