I've been looking for a thread to help me out with my phone but I couldn't find anything to help me. If you know any thread with a fix for this please redirect me there.
But anyways I was updating the firmware on my Sprint Epic touch 4G to jellybean on the Samsung website and right when it almost finished it failed at modem bin, and it bricked. It says Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again. ( I don't have kies installed in my computer).
I've been try to restore like it was before but nothing that I found would work.
I'm running ICS 4.0.4 FL24
I can run Odin Mode and the phone was not rooted before this.
I've tried to restore using Odin3 but it always fails after modem.bin
When I'm in Odin mode it says
PRODUCT NAME: SPH-D710
CUSTOM BINARY: NO
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
This is after I try Odin3 to restore the phone

I would assume its because you're attempting to downgrade. Try this in Odin instead
http://rwilco12.com/Files/Devices/S...0VPUCMK3_L710SPRCMK3_L710VPUCMK3_HOME.tar.exe
At this point, DO NOT reboot the phone. If you had read the Knox faq, you would know that attempting to flash a < MK3 stock tar will while on the Knox bootloader will immediately brick your phone because the older firmware will not get written. Right now, you need to immediately flash an MK3 full stock tar if you don't want a fancy paperweight.

Thank you for the tar file. I'm also curious on the the topic...are there more than one Odin? I have Odin3, (some sites refer to it as Odin3, ODIN, or just Odin) versions 1.87 (the one you told me to try), 3.07, and 3.09. I wasn't under the impression that certain versions of Odin worked better for some than others. Do they? And, is Odin and Odin3 different? I appreciate your help on this subject.
Uninstalled the USB drivers then reinstalled them with SGS3 tool kit, swapped to original cable from Samsung galaxy s4,, as well as USB port... It has a status bar on Odin first time .... Hold tight.
IT PASSED!
To be clear for people that have this same problem in the future...
Uninstall Kies, if you have it
Run a registry cleaner, I used CCleaner
Install Samsung Galaxy USB Drivers through SGS3 Toolkit
Use Odin 1.87 in Admin
Use MK3 tar in PDA section, leave auto reboot and reset time
Use original or I'm assuming Samsung USB cable
If one port doesnt work, try another USB port
Thank you everyone for your input and help, folks like you make this site worth using. :good:

Hi,
I have GT-N7100 with official ROM. Few months ago I received an invitation to upgrade my ROM from 4.1 to 4.3
I have accepted the invitation and the upgrade was smooth and all was OK.
3 weeks ago I received another notification to update the ROM. It was also 4.3 and in the description it was mentioned as better stability.
I have accepted the invitation.
This time I started to get problems. The phone after reset got stuck on the first screen with the model name of "SAMSUNG GT-N7100".
I have HOME+POWER+VoluneUP and selected to clear all data to factory reset. - I still got the same stuck failure.
I tried to download various of official ROMs from sammobile (Hong Kong, UK, Israel, UAE) and install them with Odin3 but I got the same FAIL error in all of them.
Here is the log:

Maybe your USB Debugging isn't enabled. Try flashing a custom rom if you have twrp or philz recovery installed.

Can you explain me step by step what should I do?
I don't think that my "USB Debugging is enabled" cause I don't know how to enable it.
I don't have any access to HOME+POWER+VolumUP anymore.

Download philz recovery here http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/n7100/philz_touch_6.07.9-n7100.tar.md5
Download odin v3.09. you can get it on google. Put your phone in download mode. Connect to your pc using a USB Cable.
Open Odin Select PDA as the md5 file which is the recovery. After installing recovery download a custom rom like DN3.
Put the zip file of ROM into your external sd card using a card reader. Open philz recovery by pressing Vol up, Home and Power buttons together.
Wipe data and factory reset. Flash the rom. Your phone should be fully functional by now.

Can you help?
Hello, my Sprint Galaxy S3 was running CyanogenMod but I tried last night to flash back to stock and seem to have soft (I hope) bricked the phone. I'm using Odin 3.07 and a copy of the stock tar.md5 file. Now that I've bricked it I can only get into download mode, but my tar flash keeps failing. I've tried reinstalling the USB driver and have used all the different USB ports. I've switched cords and am pretty certain I'm using a good heavy duty cord. Here's where I get hung up. Any help would be appreciated.

well of course it did you probably had ND8 before you had Cyanogenmod; if Odin any stock Rom below ND8 or NDC (if you had ND8 or NDC to begin with) you'll end up with a brick....
So, I have the SM-G920P. I was encrypting it when it failed. Well that sucks. Fired up Odin, set my phone into download mode, loaded the only version of the stock rom I have (5.0.2). It was running the newest version of the firmware, 5.1.1 with the stage fright fix. I'm using Odin 3.10.6 and when ever I try to flash it, Odin just says this:

So, I have the SM-G920P. I was encrypting it when it failed. Well that sucks. Fired up Odin, set my phone into download mode, loaded the only version of the stock rom I have (5.0.2). It was running the newest version of the firmware, 5.1.1 with the stage fright fix. I'm using Odin 3.10.6 and when ever I try to flash it, Odin just says this:

From all I have read you can't Odin back to a previous version once on 5.1.1.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62274187

correct, you cannot go back after you're on 5.1.1, that's why it's not working, you need to Odin a 5.1.1 tar
sent from my S6 using tapatalk
I am having the same error messages in ODIN as the OP. EverYthing I flash through ODIN fails. Even flashing stock 5.1.1 OF7 fails. I believe it's because I was on OGA so I have to wait until the tarball for that comes out I guess.
was a solution to this ever found?

Yes. Use the latest version of Odin (3.10.7 or 3.10.6, both can be found here: http://www.samsungodindownload.com/) and use the latest stock TAR from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63956192&postcount=226
Check the md5 on your TAR download to make sure that it matches. In my experience getting a bad or incomplete download is the number one cause of errors.
And be aware that you CANNOT DOWNGRADE. If you flash to the latest stock and firmware, you can't go back.
my s6 dosen't want to be fomated by givng me msg of cant open the serial(COM)port, and when am removing it in the pc it is turning off,
