Hi everyone
This is Arjun Rajput again presenting a small but useful guide.
As always i will use tasker for this guide too
I haven't seen anyone doing this ,this is original
If somebody believes that this is his idea and i have copied , please feel free to contact moderator and ask them to close the thread.
Let's get started
*******************************************
Requirements
Tasker
Secure setting plugin
Flipcover
*******************************************
This is very simple setting that's why i won't go in depth .i don't have much time so i m making it short .
First of all go to tasker preferences/monitor/display of monitoring , and allow tasker to monitor proximity even when screen is off
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now go to phone setting/security/device administrator and enable tasker and secure setting as device admin
Come back to tasker
Create new profile
Context=stat/sensor/proximity sensor
Task=display/system lock
Display/keyguard/on
Display/display timeout/7seconds
Create another profile
Context=stat/sensor/proximity inverted
Task=plugin/secure setting/wake device
Display/keyguard/off
That's it now display will automatically lock unlock according your flip cover(with proximity)
This will increase life of over power button.
Note that this will drain your battery
U can use phones orientation based triggers instead proximity it will save your battery .
Optional : in context add and invert your apps ,so screen doesnt accidently turn off while using inverted apps,also add pattern lock context so it doesnt automatically unlock device if u are having a pattern lock.
Waiting for feedback

Can u plz tell me which app ?
So i can compare battery drain of both
Tasker used only 2% battery in 16 hours
And trust me my tasker is full profiles and tasker itself contains power of lot of applications so i would still consider tasker instead of that app.
And plz link me to that app which you are talking about
Thanks

BTW This can also be done with any app that can make shortcut for a given intent (EG:adw ex).. the intent is com.android.settings.Settings$PowersaverListActivity
You can also do this with any launcher, like adw ex, that lets you make custom shortcuts.

Today I got a little bit bored and decide to make this simple app. As the name says, it allows to put the phone in Standby (Lock) with the touch of app's icon. I know that there are many many apps that do this, but maybe in the future I could add other options to it. So far it seems to work fine, I tested it with Jellbro latest nightly and works like a charm. Maybe I am too lazy, but because my phone is on the desk most of the day, I find it not very convenient to press the Power button...

Changelog for version 1.4:
1.4
- added Tasks feature
- on some ROM versions the screen my try to turn itself on again after lock, the app will double check and try to lock it again. Please provide feedback if it still does not work.
- minor graphic tweaks
You can find it on Google Play at: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alinberce.standbytouch
Feel free to give me suggestions . Also a high rating on Google Play would help. Thanks.
App looks fine and the design is not too bad, however I do not see a point in such Apps, since a simple press on the power button does the same. It is even faster, since one of my fingers is usually very close to it anyway.
But as I said, nice work.
Thanks for this! Just got a metal bumper and its annoying to press the power button.
This works great, nice icon !
Edit: don't know why but sometimes the screen wakes up Again right after sleeping. I can't seem to reproduce the problem, seems random.

Wow that does look pretty nice.Thanks.
Quite good idea
any I like your design and interface. it's nice!
Thank you all for your kind words.
@FC1032: I never had my screen turning on after lock, but I did with other apps. I am using a clean install with no apps installed (except keyboard app). Maybe there could be a conflict with other app ? I will restore a bunch of the apps I use and see if I can manage to reproduce this. The app code is fairly simple, just access basic android functions and close itself on clock. Even the Settings page is closed when you leave it
I was thinking of adding some extra features on shutdown... what would you like to do extra, when you send your phone to standby ? How about this: if I set some interval, for instance 10 pm-8am, add some functions like: switch to silent, disable data... etc.
PS: please don't be shy, spread some 5 stars in Google Play, it will help the app to get more users. Thank you all again.

Just downloaded the app. Seems to work fine. One thing that will make it more professional is if you proof read your description on the Google Play page.
For example:
Responsibility, not Responsability
Installation, not Instalation
And the word nasTy, unless that T is supposed to be there.
These are nit picky things, but it makes the app and developer look more polished
Good luck!
Interesting request... I see one way of doing this: there is no way I could catch a double/triple touch on the app's icon, as the icon is in a Launcher app. However I could add in Settings an option with Re-Touch for Shutdown popup. Basically the App would start with a black screen, waiting for 1 seconds for another touch, if no touch it goes to standby, if touch it shows the popup. The only downside would be the shutdown command can only be run on a Rooted device (not really a problem for Nexus ).
Are there other users who would find this feature useful ?
@Cyberdan3: thank you for your corrections. Now it's fixed.
PS: thank you all for your ratings in Google Play... the app is starting to get some stars
@FC1032 do you still have screen wake-ups ? I am using the app since release and not even once the screen opened after lock.

Unfortunately it seems that depending on ROM version (I've tested quite a few), sometimes there is a issue with screen starting again after lock. There are two ways of making things, one simpler and one more complex. I will go with the simpler one first and see feedback. I am preparing a new version which will add a really neat feature... but because I want to keep the design path of the settings page, also on the new feature, I will need to spend some time in the drawing app
Sneak preview of the new version... it just entered testing phase
Ok guys, new version is on Google Play. I did not have enough time to make extensive testing so this may have some bugs on the tasks feature. The Task feature allows you to define intervals in which the Sound/Data/Wifi are On or Off. The app, when you perform a lock will check and update the device of the status as set in Tasks. In order to avoid repetitive operations and prevent battery usage, the check is made only ONCE per interval. So for example if you set the phone to be silent from 22 - 07 and you lock your phone at 22:15, if you reopen and use it, when you lock it again, the app will only make simple lock without all the checks again. If some of you prefer it otherwise, please let me know so I could add an extra setting for it.
As I said earlier, there are some ROM versions where the screen comes On again after lock. The only way I found to handle this is to relock the device after half of second again. So you may notice a slight screen on, but most of the time it will not.
Please let me know if you find any bugs. Thanks.

Hi
I'm not a developper but I created an app with the Tasker App Factory that unplug 3G one minute after you lock your screen. The one minute delay is here to prevent the phone plugging and unplugging at any time the screen goes off. During this delay, if you wake your device, the process will stop and begin again when you turn the screen off. When the screen is off, after the 1 minute delay, 3G is stopped while the phone is in your pocket to prevent battery drain
Once it is stopped, if you wake the device a new 5 second delay is started, for those who just want to check the clock , and then the 3G is plugged with a ''Data restarted'' toast
Note : Tasker IS NOT required to use this apk :victory:
Feel free to request any modification like the delay or the toast text, I'm here to share such things. And if it helped, don't forget the :good: button

cpu usage
Your app gave me a watchdog alert as it's using more than 50% CPU. This would counteract any benefits as eating CPU results in battery drain.
It also uses 15.3 mb of ram when its role is simple and in no way justifies the ram/CPU usage.
Going to try this as I am tired of manually switching to 2g all the time.

..Hi guys..Recently i made a thread of how can i get active display on our hTC One X device..I found something and I thought it's not what did i meen..But it was..So here is the little tutorial
Before we start here is the link to application..
Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.activenotifications
If you use free version you will be very limited..So for this tutorial you should bought it as I did..
1. Enable DynamicNotifications when you do that your phone will ask you for administrator permission
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Now we have Manage blocked apps,here you can block apps from wich you don't wan't to recive notifications..I didn't touch that cause I wanna see every notification
3. Custom screen timeout - When you flip your device or you take it from the pocket and your screen turns on, here you can set after how many minutes or seconds your screen will turn off
4. Let's check Switch off screen on dismiss - when you delete/dismiss your notifications screen will turn off
5. Advanced appearance options - here you can customize DynamicNotifications..from background color,text color everything you want
6. "Brething" notifications - if you check this new notifications will appear only once
7. Hide additional details - this option will just show you that you recive a message,but there won't be sender's name or message text
8. Use as lockscreen - If you wan't to have Active Display just like Moto X just check it
9. Auto-wake - when you flip your phone from lying face down position screen will turn on,or just pulling it from pocket
10. Night mode - you can set time when you don't want DynamicNotifications show you info about notif's
11. Custom brightness - name tell's you everything..set you custom brightness
12. Edit swipe actions - you can put unlock device on right swipe or left,make it how do you wish or you wanna start some app's..it's on you
13. Widgets - If you want some more widgets just click there and download it
14. Block home button - if you press home button notification screen will go..
Okey guys I think you got it..For me it's working just like that and I like it very much Here are some more pics..Tutorial was made all by me,and pictures too..Thank you!

He's saying that the app is specifically designed for amoled screens. In case of amoled screens, the black pixels do not light up which saves the battery but a LCD panel is backlit. So on LCD screen like our hox's, this app is a major battery drainer.

I love this feature and the knock features as well. They're awesome. But LG should have given the user a choice whether to use them. Seems like it would be very simple to have a setting for these and whether they are active or not based on the user preference.
I thought my screen was having issues too, and I agree - would be nice to have the option to enable or disable this as battery life is undoubtedly taking a slight hit.

It is basically a swipe down / hold motion. Once you remove your finger, it turns back off.

It's been confirmed that and the multiple users (guest mode) features have been excluded from the AT&T version. I looked a couple of days ago, and was disappointed to learn this.
Boo damn AT&T
I was skimming through the user manual included in my T-Mobile box and it's actually listed in there. That is how I found out about it. I'm guessing it's in everyone's manual probably.

Whoa.. I didn't even get a user manual..
FYI. Not only do you have to have a lock screen, but the screen has to be locked. I have my lock timer (Settings | Display | Lock screen | Lock timer) set for 5 min after screen timeout, and for those 5 minutes the peek doesn't seem to work.

I just have swipe to unlock and it works. You just pull down from the top just like you normally would but with the screen off. The led will turn on and just let go and pull down again and it will show.
Anyone care to guess why AT&T would omit this feature?
I'm bummed about it but guess when root or twrp is available I will be able to add it back.

Why must carriers mess with features of a vendors phone? I wish there was a ROM I could use to get back to factory for a base LG G4 (like the developer version of HTC One M8 I used to have).
I must have disabled a page and a half of AT&T apps that all require some form of payment to use...
