Where Do I Start?

I really want to root my deisre, but I dont know where to start.
My system information on desire is
Android version 2.2
Baseband 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
Kernel 2.6.32.15-gd966f2c0
Build 2.14.207.1 CL233777
All I want to do is be able to install apps2SD, I read somewhere with app2sd+ it lets you fool the phone in thinking you have more internal memory is this true?
I am a complete NooB at this so I just dont want to jump right in, I would like to somehow backup my stock ios so if anythink does go wrong and can reinstall back to default. All help welcome

if anything does go wrong, then just get the same RUU you've got now, and flash..

You can indeed but if you read the guides carefully and be thorough you can't really go wrong

Thanks I'll have ago on Saturday off work then, if I do all this and 2.3 comes out can I still update or have I got to install a 2.3 Rom.

A 2.3 official update to a branded desire is not going to come soon, anyhow you'll be rooted soon and a custom rom version of 2.3 will be released months before the official, so you might as well just stick with a custom 2.3 ROM.
But if you decide you want the official 2.3, then you apply the RUU, and then the update.

Anything that supports EXT4

EXT3 is enough for A2SD+

Am going to try leedroid that seems the best out there from what I read

It's not really fair on the dev's to state a 'best' rom, i would suggest you try a few different roms out as it will be down to your own personal preference. The most popular ones are listed on the first page of the Android Development section of the forum. Have fun flashing

Yes your probably right, I'll try leedroid out first. If it dose what it say I don't think ill try anymore. Just want 1gb of internal memory lol

Desire Z ROM

Hi everyone, im new to htc desire z and i dont really like the current software on mine, so what is or are the best custom rom(s) for desire z? or is there any place where i can find other versions of the stock rom? -like samfirmware for samsung?-

personally i like cm7 rc4or cm7 nightly roms.... acer liquid is cool too
make sure your rooted.. s-off and install clockworkmod using rom manager in market
virtuous rom is identical to stock but with fixes

About the RUU thingy

Can anybody tell me how to know which RUU is for which version?
For instance, how to know whether a RUU is for froyo 2.2.1 or 2.2.2?
Am checking for my colleague whether official gingerbread ROM is available here. My colleague hopes to do the update but don't want to risk locking the phone again but still remain on froyo.
To be exact, am looking for Singapore version of official gingerbread ROM. (If it is available)
Can anybody help with this?

HTC is moving slow nowadays..

hi to all xda developers,
i got my first andriod powered mobile i.e. htc desire hd, previously i was using windows smart phones and iphones, symbians etc.
Now i have few question:
1. what are the best 3d games for htc desire hd?
2. Which are best 3d apps for htc desire hd?
3. i need to root my phone (looking to overclock it)
i am running andriod 2.3.5, wiht sense 3.0, and software version 3.12.405.1
can anyone suggest which tool is good to root htc desire hd, and also suggest me a hack to overclock it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Ace hack kit...look.in android development follow it to the letter,overclocking...a majority of roms sense or not have this in the tweak kits..
so root it then go hunting

i pesonally would use the cyanogenmod wiki to root, but its your choice. and im pretty sure youll need a custom rom to flash a kernel that supports overclocking. i doubt anyone makes modded stock kernels. i would use icecold sandwich and it has built in up to 2.03ghz

I Guess If You Root You Cant Receive any official updates

Its tricky...you benefit a Lot more from rooting than if not...if your woriied about losing stock there are rooted untouched roms in the Dev section then you can overclock etc...I'd go that route..even when HTC release sense and ics a variant rooted version of that will be on here anyway...stocks okay but if your overclocking then you have more of a genuine interest in what you want your phone to be doing so in that respect also you will become just like most people and flashing till you get what you want

Thanks for all the useful information mates. I have heard that all the ics customs roms have bugs like camera, video playback, touch problem etc. So i will root my desire hd for over clocking after getting the bug free rom. And can anyone suggest me some good apps for Desire hd.
