Hi,
I wanted to know which launcher is running smooth on our S4 Mini.
I'm happy with the ADW.Launcher at the moment but maybe there is a better launcher on the market.
I personally use Apex launcher. Used Smart launcher on my old, slow android phone.
I'm using FTL Launcher - it's pretty fast
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lowveld.ftllauncherlite&hl=en
Here I use nova prime
There are various great customizable launchers for Android 4.2 like Nova, Apex, Next Launchers.
I myself run Go Launcher EX in combination with Go Locker, Go Weather & Go Toucher, which runs perfectly smooth & fast and just does things i cannot do with Apex or Nova (Like removing status bar & docks) and other things. I didn't experience lag or ram dropping rates.
You should try some out and see which one fits your needs.
Apex launcher is more pro, like you get to set the dock icon size, some more features. You cannot change an icon app on drawer, only desktop/dock. That sucks.
Nova launcher has few features, but you can change any icon on system. Quite cool.
Both run pretty fast and stable.
I use TSF Shell and I like it a lot.
It's weird at first but when u get used to use, all the options and things are nice to use and change
It runs really stable and fast on mine at least
Holo launcher HD.
Stable, fast, clean - yet customizable.

Next launcher 3d is the best......!!
Just try it out and find the difference.....!!
SS Launcher Original rocks

I personally liked the Holo Launcher HD Plus.
Since there were constant FCs with Carbon Rom,
I switched back to Apex, which I was already using on my tablet.
They're both fast and stable launchers, Apex seems to be a bit more customizable, though.
I recommend Nova launcher, use it for a long time and no problem.
Apex or Nova!

Nova user too
Holo did not scroll smooth enough

GO Launcher is the best. IMHO.
I use Perfect Launcher and is very smooth and customizable. I like it alot.

isn't that obvious ?
Anything but
Samsung TouchWiz !
I'm currently using Google GEL and works fine except the always listening feature
Holo
Consider me a third vote for Holo. Very simple with a small cpu/ram footprint. Keeps things working in the background nicely.

What would be the best/fastes Launcher for the GIO?
TouchWiz30Launcher seems to be my default on my 2.35 version (JonasHendrickx v3.1 rom) (There some modded versions of Touchwiz to. If anyone hase a link i ad it) This does not seems stable all the time when i turn on the phone. Lag. Mediascanner starts reading the sd and this can take a very long time. And sometimes crash the launcher. (A app called Rescan Media root from market can disable media scanner.)
Personally im looking for the fastest launcher for the GIO. I havent tested many my self yet.
Tested by me:
Default Touchwiz V30 works and looks oke. (Samsung's TouchWiz is quite a power eater i did read.)
Launcher Pro (Free version) Fast and basic. Anoying: The background picture turns black sometimes in the version that i used.
ADW Launcher i did test with (CM7) Fast and stable. Nice options.
This launcher seem nice to me:
Go Launcher link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423043
ADW Launcher (CM7) Does have good options.
Sugested by forum users:
sgs II launcher = Ported by spacecaker.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472318
Go Launcher EX = Most GO apps are cool and way better than stock samsung ones. This one seems very populair!
ADW Launcher (CM7)
Zeam Launcher = If you want other stuff and options you may use launcherpro or adw launcher ex
Launcher Pro = Has pretty basic functionality.
Balancer Launcher = Almost as fast as LauncherPro. it has some advanced tweaks and stuff.
360 launcher = Pretty and has nice themes and screenlocks also I love the images and video tab on app drawer. Also, folders on drawer is pretty neat as well. Only down side for some people, no landscape mode on this launcher.
MIUI Launcher =
Nytmarez tested: TouchWiz Launcher, Go Launcher EX, ADW Launcher (CM7), Zeam Launcher, Launcher Pro, and Balancer Launcher
He thinks the Laucher pro is the fasted one. Most others of the others seem pretty lagish on Gio is what Nytmarez thinks.
Please give me you're opinion on you're favorite launcher
In my opinion, LauncherPro is the best. It lags a little at boot (if you let your device be idle for a minute after boot, no lagging).
Also, if you are rooted, you can use app called Rescan Media root from market.
It can disable media scanner.
my opinion?

The SGS II launcher won't be on the market, but there is a thread on these forums with a link for you to download it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472318
I think launchers are your own personal choice. I dont like go launcher, but like launcherpro and ADW

The problem is that wall launchers, puts me the system too slow...
So the best for me is the stock.
By the way, spacecaker, can you make your launcher without the letters in the dock?
Thanks

Color background has nothing to do with battery save on any display with backlight.
You have "brightness" in Settings/Display and that's all. If even one pixel must be of high brightness (clock numbers for example), the backlight will work at setted value.
It matters only for OLED displays.
Go Launcher Ex
Well gonna give my 2 cents about launcher as well
Personally I use 360 launcher on my gio. Found it while browsing SGT7 forum it's fast, pretty and has nice themes and screenlocks also I love the images and video tab on app drawer. Also, folders on drawer is pretty neat as well. Only down side for some people, no landscape mode on this launcher.

I vote for Go Launcher Ex.
IMO most GO apps are cool and way better than stock Samsung ones.
I have tested the following:
TouchWiz Launcher
Go Launcher EX
ADW Launcher
Zeam Launcher
Launcher Pro
Balancer Launcher
IMHO for Gio, the fastest is Launcher Pro but it also has pretty basic functionality. Almost as fast as LauncherPro is Balancer Launcher and it has some advanced tweaks and stuff. All of the others seem pretty lagish on Gio to me.
I have GO Launcher. It seems to work as well as the default ADW does on CM7, but with more functionality.
And because I only have two pages, It doesn't seem to lag at all.
Go launcher EX
SGS II launcher
I'm about to get my Galaxy Nexus, on intending to root, but will probably use a custom launcher, am happy to pay for pro version, how do you think they compare? Smoothness is secondary to features for me.
I use apex launcher. It is very customisable and I like the ability to use gestures. It is also very smooth. I highly recommand it!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I'm using Nova Prime on my phone and am quite happy with it. Has plenty of customisation, and runs smooth for me. I personally paid for the full version of Nova as that added the ability to hide apps in the app drawer, which is a feature I am a huge fan of.
You can get free versions of both though, so if you're not sure you can download the free versions of each, and then see what additional features the paid version provides, and determine if you feel you need them.
Was using nova prime until I tried apex and I've stick to it ever since. Both are really good but apex gave me a little more customizations; being able to change what holding down screen does and tapping on screen twice.
Give both a try and see which one you like. I would recommend you to push the apex apk yourself from the beta version found on this forum here.
Nova Launcher just dropped a nice little update
I'm using Apex currently only because of customization. It lags like a mother though. I emailed the devs and every time they release a new beta they just tell me to try it instead of telling me they've fixed the issue...which they haven't.
Nova launcher is smooth.
bow chicka wow wow.
Loving Apex. Smooth as butter and LOVE the customization options.
I've been using nova prime for about two months. The gestures are convenient for voice search and text search. I also like the backup feature, which is essential for saving time if you flash alot of roms.
Sprint GN, Tapatalk2
Nova, feels smoother than apex. Apex was buggy with its animations too
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Apex is a little more polished a little smoother (in the latest beta 1.1 update) especially the drawer fly in animation
Apex is smooth. Don't know what people are complaining about. It's awesome if you like the stock look with varying degrees of customization.

Personally, I bought Nova Prime and am loving it so far
I really like Apex, it's like stock with some good and useful customizations..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I currently use Nova. I used Apex for a while but it occasionally caused extremely high battery drain. Nova seems a bit more responsive to me, but Apex was not slow.
I turn the animations off on my phone, so that may affect how things feel versus others who like the animations on.
I'm using Nova prime. I liked the stock launcher but missed some features like gestures. Nova with prime upgrade gave me those features and I'm happy now. Didn't test Apex though.
So basically both are good.
I love the double tap on anywhere on the screen to open options from Apex launcher. That’s my decision maker between Nova and Apex
I've been using Apex since I got my Gnex last week. I love it. Great customization options, really fast--never have any problems with it.
There's already a huge thread about this in the themes and apps forum.
Apex for me.

Can anyone help me with why I should use any launcher over GO Launcher? I have rooted and installed the new Calkulin V1.6 ROM.
Thanks!
Personally I feel as if Go Launcher was not specialized for Android 4.0, so I stuck with NOVA launcher. BTW you should give that a shot, I didn't like it at first, but I grew into and now its running great. I also run Calk's E4GT 2 v1.6, and it is great. It should come with NOVA launcher if you didn't apply the barebones converter.
Here's a link if you did:

Is there any to pull my screens from Go Launcher into Nova? Also, dumb question, how do I pull up the app drawer in Nova???

You can't transfer screens across different launchers, at least not to my knowledge, the format isn't really standardized. If you don't see the app drawer, hold onto any empty space in the launcher until a menu comes up. Select Nova Actions and the app drawer should be there. You can drag that into the dock so it stays there.
Go feels bloated and slow to me, switch back to regular or tw and its faster and smoother.
I use adw ex because go lags n freezes and doesnt have the draw animations I like

Really? Go never lags or freezes and I have about 30 themes installed and tons of apps.

Go launcher also lags and freezes for me. I use adw ex
I don't like GO because it looks tacky and it's really bloated. All the widgets just seem to suck battery. ADW EX all the way

Actually I take that back. I'm loving Launcher 7 right now!

Trebuchet or Nova
If you want as close to pure ICS as possible, download the Trebuchet launcher. If you want a few more features, I like Nova Prime. I've tried Go! Launcher several times, and although themes are plentiful and there are some impressive transitions, I always get bored of the fluff and extra menus and choose something more minimalist. In my case, I flashed to ICS because I wanted to have a simpler bloat-free experience, and intentionally adding more seems counterproductive.
If you're rooted, I say why use any rom other than blu kuban? Best experience I've had to date.

Apex to me seems to be the best as of right now and really stable. I even bought the pro key
I use Nova Launcher because it's really smooth, polished, and has a ton of features. I used to use GO but it has sooo much bloatware. Why does a Launcher need to have its own App store, Lockscreens, messages, etc.? GO runs really smooth, but the features and different aspects just make it look unorganized in my opinion and cluttered.
I used Apex launcher (Pro) because I'm running ICS as well and not only is is built for ICS (love the widget drawer!), but damn near has the same customization features of ADW Ex and it's quite speedy and smooth (which I use when I'm on GB).

Hey,
I'm currently using the stock launcher.
What do you think is the best launcher for G9?
I heard about Nova, Apex, Go, Trebouchet, which one do you think is the best?
I'm using ADW and love it.

best launcher
Hi All
it's been a while that I've been testing different launchers both on my galaxy s2 and archos g9,
Here are some of my thoughts:
Go launcher HD - very beautiful and quick launcher, many customization and the brilliant feature of creating hand gestures!!!
Although medium amount of screens and icons per screen, but all in all it's my current launcher on the tablet.
Apex launcher - it's the heavy duty, the real deal for all the professionals out there - tons of screens and icons per screen,
A lot of customization, many ways and styles to scroll the screens (advantage over others), but lacks the creativity of go launcher's learninggestures. In conclusion - super pro but medium graphics... it's my current launcher on galaxy s2.
Nova launcher - disappointed of this launcher, it's a lame copy of other launcher. Medium features, medium graphics and creativity.
Stay away of this.
The verdict would be go launcher HD for tablets - beauty and power
Go launcher HD +1
I use Go Launcher HD.
I just wish I could apply a theme (transparent) to the GO Calender Widget. Otherwise it does exactly what I want from a launcher.
Go launcher +1

Apex
I love Apex launcher due to his tweaks. Definitely try it.
So after your recommendations - I did installed Go Launcher.
And I think it has the advantages over other launchers.
Many cool widgets
Cool Application list
Very iOS like behavior
So for now, i'm sticking with this one.
I was using go launcher on my archos and my galaxy s2x. Both were slower, with more crashes using it. Went back to stock and smooth as butter again. Its just extra bloat and using resources that could be used better in the running of the system.

I've been using Nova because well... it's Nova! But Apex has an option to use the tablet UI found on many 10' tablets and I'm interested in that. But how does it stack up against Nova for speed, smoothness, lack of lag, stability, battery, and memory use?

Never used Nova but I've been running Apex since purchase and it's great.
Its a preference really, apex spaces things better than nova. Apex will look like stock on the device while nova wont.
Apex vertical widget scrolling is slow and choppy. Nova isn't.
Both are free. Install them and see what you like better.
i use nova on my nexus4, i downloaded it on the tablet and i felt lag in the app drawer so i decided to go with apex, havnt had scroll lag yet:good:
also apex has tablet ui mode, It looks and feels much better that way, for me at least
I use nova but SS launcher is going to be given a whirl
