Will I keep my rootacces gained when I had .423 firmware when I update this OTA?
I want to keep or gain again rootacces, but a new method for the .244 firmware isn't there
Go and be the first to try
Got the update information too!
I will try this evening when I'm back from work. I first have to flash original ftf (system, modified too much for ota-update ) and root it again. Then I'll try to update ota.
I will inform you if root stayed.

Just updated - root still present! Grrrrrreat!
Edit: I read somewhere that this update will install the old versions of album and walkman. This is not the case with ota update, I still have the recently updated apps!

I tried the OTA for C6505, after the reboot, .423 is still showing up and in the Software update, .244 is in Installing status. Anyone have this problem?
Is there a log file where I see any error? My device is stock .423 and rooted.
Edit: I tried factory reset and the OTA stil doesn't work. I've finally flash it back to .423, root it and OTA worked!

Update won't finish on cwm, has to be stock 3e recovery. You can keep root by dl'ing voodoo ota root keeper and using it. Check about phone, see which version of software you have.

If you have CALEM then it's probably trying to upgrade you to CALG1, which is the update that removes universal search. If you're already on CALG1 it's something new...otherwise it's a few weeks old.

So do I keep ignoring it? Should I just flash an image that has the update and root?
I would flash the stock rooted version of lg1, find herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 .
Also in that post is the apk got the universal search that the update strips out.

Thank you for all the help. One more question. Is there a way to remove CWM and go back to stock recovery, use root keeper, do the update and restore root again? I guess I'm trying to avoid having to redo all my settings, wallpapers, etc.
BTW, checked and I do have CALEM.

Flashing the root-injected LG1 through Odin as mrhaley30705 suggested will preserve all your apps and settings. If you're worried, do a nandroid first on to your external SD card (or pull it to your computer) before you flash, just in case. But you won't lost your apps and settings because it leaves /data untouched.

I assume 1 full reset before updating wouldn't bring any issues from the normal 423 to the new update. Just back up all your stuff with titanium backup.

I have locked bootloader..
Hi guys;
I have a Sony Xperia ZL C6506 (locked bootloader). I have ClockworkMod Recovery installed, rooted as well. I'm interested in installing some custom ROMs on my phone. Unfortunately, most of the ROMs that are for my phone are for unlocked bootloaders; I bricked my phone once due to this (once trying to install Pac Man ROM).
My phone currently runs Android 4.2.2, there is an 4.3 update for it too, but I try updating it and it won't update; I get a "Could not install" message.
Any help and tips for my phone will be thanked.
Peace!

Then you cannot install truly Custom anything. Only derivatives of the Stock ROM. Check the forum "Android Development" for ROMs for locked bootloaders.
That's the price you pay for buying carrier phones.

You'd have to check out here to find ROM's for locked bootloaders. The post above me is a little to narrow, you can modify and customize multiple themes, systemui, home, xposed modules, etc. Difference between a locked and unlocked bootloader is that you can flash a kernel with an unlocked bootloader. Otherwise you can flash tons and tons of different roms that are available for whatever firmware you wish. I definitely recommend backing up your phone entirely before flashing almost anything, as well take a good time to read around what you can and cannot do. For example you can flash any .244 rom on a base stock .244 firmware, what you cannot do is flash a .423 rom on over to .244 or .253 cause then you'll have many issues ranging from bricking to apps and basic services, and receivers not functioning properly.

That's not 4.3, that's still 4.2 .
Anyway, the reason you can not update is that you have changed One of the system apps. Did you freeze anything or install a mod or anything else?
If you want to update use the pc, you'll have to root again.

In order to install system updates you need to be on full stock firmware and recovery. Also, If you receive that update again, please capture the zip and post it.

To elaborate (and make it easier to find in TiBu), that's com.motorola.ccc.ota, or "MotorolaOTA 1.0".
I'm freezing, too, as it'd be easier to RSD back to stock than to manually put it back together if I wanted to update (in other words, I'm lazy).
I am curious, though, on what exactly the update changes/fixes. D'oh, I missed coronado's post.

Well... [HERE'S] Verizon's "changelog". Motorola hasn't updated there's yet. > http://goo.gl/6YzYPu
Since it's only 10MB, not much has changed. FakeID, Futex Bug and the Trust Zone exploit have been closed, also Messaging fixes. I'm curious though, has anybody had Messaging problems? I haven't.

I never noticed any Messaging issues either. I've been using 8sms since July, though.
Same here
That's the one I have as well.

I have messaging issues here and there... Wife sends a message phone tells me I have a message yet I can't read it and the notification won't go away till I get and read another message... I really just thought it was from all the stuff I've done.. I really need a clean flash... Or I just never get the message notification or message at all no biggie tho
We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.
