Hello.
I need your opinions.
I preffer something stable and smooth, and it's GB for me, I flashed ICS, and browsing on youtube is not so well. I need flash content, havent test it with games.
Lol.
Update. Or try ICS custom ROM's
Arc S, Updated here, very pleased. Performance is about the same, or better in other areas.
I rooted and removed some of the included crud, switched to Go Launcher and limited my background apps to 4, and it's running very nicely.
I think most of the problems and gripes are from the less powerful Arc Lt15i owners running hacked roms.

Stock launcher worked well (perhaps better than Go Launcher), but I miss the Go Launcher widgets and can't live without them.
Unlocked my bootloader using the testpoint method, and tried some of the custom ICS roms. My phone now feels much, much faster than it did even on GB. It absolutely flies.
Surprised to hear that stock ICS is laggy. Seems to me that if there was ever a good reason to unlock your bootloader, ICS is that reason.
I'm on locked boot loader and have upgraded. Remember for anyone upgrading using flashtool, connect to Sony update service and REPAIR, I flashed last night and I am pretty impressed. I don't know what everyone is moaning about. You even have root already. One thing to do as well is download Apex Launcher which is only available for ICS so go and check out play store and see three phone fly!!

i am using arc s and had updated.
it feels so much faster with ics. but
ics has some suckish parts like the video camera.
video sucks big time. but i'm glad i had updated.
feels like a big boost for my phone.

I haven't really tried video, but overall I'm quite pleased, music player from Xperia s would have been nice with clear bass, but other than a few things we didn't already have anyway, whole phone is working pretty decent don't know what some people are on about.
Those of you who are having lagging issues, again I ask have you repaired using update service?

I was trying to get Xperia s player on my ics but I messed something up. And forgot to backup original files.
Can someone upload the ics SemcMusic.apk and also soundenhancement.apk
Cheers

You need to download adobe flash player 11 from the Android market in order to used the flash.
I agree with you I miss my Agenda widget with GO but... alternatively I have APEX with PureCalendar Widget which is working great.

I came back to GB because of the many glitches in games. Those cannot be solved by repairing using the update service right ?
In back on GB. If you like playing games then ICS is useless.

I started a similar thread but got closed.
I to was wondering about staying on gb or go with ics, in the end my techie nerd took over and switched to ics, can't say it has any real benefits apart from the show of factor that my arc has got ics.
I was very sceptical because of the negatives that people had,i have not had these issues even when playing games like temple run or angry birds etc...
The only thing I miss is the amount of mods, themes available,i know in time they will come but my techie geek wants them now.
So in short yes upgrade and enjoyB-)

So, I'm still using GB on my Arc S, and planning to flash ICS, there are two major bugs I've collected from posts on the forum that concerns me:
1. Low fps video recording
Is this only for 720p video or also for lower resolution recording?
2. Games not working smoothly,
Is this only for HD Games, or do games like Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds also have problems?
Been to ICS for less than 24 hours, got back to GB,I owned lt15i,maybe that is the main reason why is it lagging in some parts, but, there is no real big thing in ICS Arc to really shout about.
If i am upgrading,I will probably wait a month or two after it's official launch for my model, for the sake getting everything else easily, because to get recovery for ics on lt15i is real pain right now, in my opinion at least.Depending on which arc you owned,I really think that it will make a difference if I actually owned lt18i.For lt15i,it is a strict no,no for me right now.

The Games, I played, run as smoothly like with GB, but whenever Ram was full every Game was closed, Games like Cut the Rope and Angry Birds too.

Hi all.
Been an Android user for about as long as it's been out there and I have almost always rooted and installed custom ROM's on my devices. Last year I finally managed to convince the wife to upgrade to Android (enter the ARC S). She was delighted but the phone was always a bit slugish. When the ICS update came out I pressed her to upgrade because I thought she would benefit from the upgrade and the speeds might improve. So after a few months she finally gave in and about 2 weeks ago I did the upgrade. Aaaaaaannnndddddd that's when it all went to hell. Her phone is slow. Soooooo painfully slow that even an old HTC Desire loaded with a Sense 3.5 / 4 ROM is outperforming it by miles. She is mad. Soooooo very mad at me since then for having made her phone all that much worse. Reading up on it I know now that the upgrade was a bust and that Sony dropped the ball with this one.
So now I am looking to redeem myself. Usually I'd just root the phone, slap on some recovery software and flash away a couple of ROM's and choose from them. But this device seems to be not so straight forward. So I am turning to the community for help. What I am looking to do is install a custom ROM that is smooth and fast and will stay that way for as long as possible. Preferably one that is JB based and as easy to get on the device as possible. Now I know that when this question gets put out there people are often greeted with the "flash 'em and try" response, but my wife is reluctant to let me do anything else to her phone, let alone experiment with many a ROM. So I am asking for opinions. Any ROM as long as it's fast. The ROM that gets the most positive opinions wins and that is what I'll flash and hopefully save my marriage
Please keep in mind the phone is SIM locked and not rooted. It's basically an original ARC S with ICS on it. I have no recovery or rooting experience with this device, so it would be lovely if this could be done simply. I don't really want to over complicate things and risk gorking the thing even more.
Thanks in advance to all you members out there!
Hi.
You could just have Googled best rom arc s and read one of the numerous threads on the subject, and these threads are just another variation of best rom threads which are also now starting to build up. Root and and remove crap, few build.prop and init.d tweaks and you'll have a nippy Phone that works as it should, install a custom ROM then she isn't going to be happy when something doesn't work and you're constantly taking it of her to sort it out.

I did. And I actually considered (still am tbh) the Ultimate HD. But thought maybe there was something out there better and no frills. As for the root and decrap option, that's actually a pretty good idea. But won't the crap just load back? I mean, on most roms when I remove the bloatware it just loads up again via market. As for build.prop I don't know much. Could you just tip me a thread topic or what not and I will search. Or topics even.

Best thing is to try honestly (I wouldn't say ultimate hd is a bad choice )
And bloatware wouldn't load back once you've removed them so dont worry

I have been using that ROM for around a week now and my phone is faster than ever.. The only issue seems to be in sending items via bluetooth (accept works smooth, but the option in send via is missing). But if your wife doesn't use that much bluetooth file sharing, then I'd recommend this ROM. Another good choice would be XPERIA T ROM for Arc S - Comparatively its a tad bit slower (not noticeable) but loads of more features (WalkMan has GraceNote, ClearAudio. Album has SenseMe etc.) Both are stable for daily use.

Thank you for the input. Bluetooth is not an issue. She rarely uses it at all. So yes, I'll keep it in mind. I'll have to decide till tomorrow morning seeing as how I am going to try to get it done over the weekend. To those of you that took the time to reply, my thanks!

Actually, no. She forbade me
I'm guessing she's scared it'll just get worse or I'll mess it up even more. She won't even allow me to root it. At this point, I am hoping that some official fix comes along so that I can at least get her phone back to acceptable status. It's sooooooo slow. My old HTC Desire flies like a bat with a lit match stuck up it's butt compared to her Arc S right now. I mean, pulling up the phone dialer takes literally between 7 to 17 seconds to open just the dialer. And don't even dare to tap "contacts" because it can take you the best part of 30 seconds to see them appear.
SONY didn't just drop the ball with releasing this update; they bloody well stabbed it with a hunting knife to deflate it first so the ball would never bounce again... and then they dropped it.
Really, I am so sad for her every time I see her trying to do something on her phone. She used to love it. Now I see her turning away from it every chance she gets. It's really heartbreaking, and I am not trying to be funny. It really does pain me to see this happen.

Yes, and atheistically Arc S is an awesome phone. And since its good under the hood as well, with a good custom FW, it really flies. My condolences to you my friend. However I have used Arc with stock FW as well, hence will suggest you some tips to enhance performance
1. Disable FaceBook Inside Xperia - It lags the system like hell
2. Remove the Timescape widget and live wallpapers if set.
3. Disable AutoSync if possible or keep it on for accounts other than FaceBook
4. Clear messages and call history a few days - I know it sounds strange - but it sure used to speed up my Arc.
5. Using tools like App Cache Cleaner and RAM Booster can help speed it up

He didn't mean Facebook itself, but Facebook inside Xperia. It's that awesome feature that let's you do things you don't need to... seriously. I don't remember well where it is in settings, but it is there (I flashed a custom JB rom so I can't tell you where it is). I guess it was in "Xperia" but I'm not sure on that one. Autosync takes a huge amount of the guilt for making it slower, allow it only when you enable wifi, if possible. Check RAM usage, and look for apps that are not in use, and uninstall them.
If you really want it fast, then why not flashing a GB lightweighted Rom or even the debloated stock one? There are quite a few around here that you can flash. Just check the development section. It won't have a lot of features as ICS does, but as this phone was designed for GB, it will run in a decent way.
I used Ultimate HD for a while, and let me tell you, it was great. It offers very nice features. 5x4 apps drawer like in Xperia T (also Xperia T's boot animation); very nice design; on-screen buttons at choice; quick toggle panel (that is really handy); walkman app; new calendar app; the new album app that allows you to see the photos on map (if geotag was allowed when taken); included overclocking tool; and much more, being quite fast at the same time. I just switched to JB for the sake of feeling JB in my hand! But of course, if I see that it doesn't suit me well, I'm going back to ICS, back to UHD.
If you really want to make it faster, your best choice is to convince her to flash a custom ROM. Stock is well aesthetically designed, but as you said yourself, laggy as hell. Some of those custom ROMs are even able to be used with locked bootloader (although I would recommend to unlock the bootloader, check link at my signature from the android soul community). My suggestion: Read. She won't, you will. The chances of schrewing it up are lower if you inform yourself of the risks. I usually do this: I read the OP, and then I go to the last 5 pages, and read some repplies. It tells me whether people are having issues recently, or if there's a common issue.
Good luck convincing her :fingers-crossed:

So good news! She finally had enough and can't stand the slowness anymore. I have the go ahead to do what I want to the device. So now everything is an option. So from what I gathered so far, first I must unlock bootloader. But this means formating the data partition, thus loosing everything.
Is it at all possible to root first so I can Titanium Backup the hell out of this phone first? LT18i running stock 4.0.4 and 4.1.B.0.587.

Yes. root it, backup your apps using titanium backup. (i recommend paid version) backup contacts and sms also. unlock your bootloader, flash custom kernel, (i recommend rush kernel), do full wipe (wipe absolutely everything except sd card of course since your backups are all there.) flash custom rom (preferably stock based roms since they are more stable. Try ultimate hd or jelly sandwich).
boot up for the first time, first boot usually slower. Complete First time setup, let it sit for awhile, like 5 minutes, install titanium, restore apps and contacts, make sure the apps are working. Some apps like line won't work after restoring with data from titanium and I had to clear it's app data first. set cpu governor to performance and add a bit of overclock (1.5 or 1.6). she won't know what these are anyway and she'd stop whining about lags. remember to set to overclock on boot. reboot phone and you're done.
I do this for my girl too. I'd still recommend ultimate hd 2.0.3. but you should mess around with the settings to see what it has to offer first. And also remember to search within their threads to find current unfixed bugs and their solutions.

Very helpful. Thanks. I have TB paid version, so it shouldn't be a problem. Was just wondering how to root without unlocking boot first. I can see many a tutorial, but all seem to tell how to unlock bl first.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
you don't need to unlock bl to root... and once you unlock bl you won't need to root because most custom roms and kernels come pre-rooted. use flashtool to root. download flashtool if you haven't already. It's like the all in one toolbox if you're just a user.

Hi guys
I was used a galaxy s plus with no comparable specification of Sony Xperia S, but unfortunately I found many problems when I used Sony Xperia S that doesn't appear to me in Galaxy S plus that has poor specifications.
For Example :
1 My Sony Xperia S always refreshing when I enter to Album
2 . The Keyboard Suddenly hidden and I can''t control it (when i typing hidden and appear)
3 . Font type can't change
4. My Xperia stop working one time for more than 7 Minutes and I can't do any thing !!!!
5. the signal of WiFi is poor and i try another device and the signal excellent
6. when I received What's app message during listen to music, the Sony will hung for a moment.
I am really sad when I choose Xperia S when I see these problems
because my friends don't have these problems and some people advice me to upgrade the system to jelly bean and current version of the system is 4.0.4
Please if anybody has similar problems tell me , I want to give a complaint to the company !!!
5, the wifi signal is fine, just because the phone shows it is low it doesn't mean it actually is, use WIFI Anaylzer to see the actual strength. Despite the signal shown as non existent i can connect to my router 60 yards away when stood at the bus stop.
6, Call me stupid but wont all phones pause the music briefly when you receive a message so you can hear the message tone?
Sounds like it could maybe be RAM related... Just another possibility

The font change thing is a thing Samsung included. I think their idea was great, considering how much that stock font suck. For us, go to Xperia P, U, Sola section, Themes and Apps, and search for Font Changer Script.

only issue is battery drain, everyday charging makes me angry... but its very good phone, smoth and powerfull..

My Xperia S with ICS (.55 custom firmware) is perfect. Even when I was on stock there was no lag and everythings worked well.
dear friend if u know how to root ur Xperia S i have simple way for u just find a same Xperia S with
difrent build.pro after rooting ur phone use root explorer & copy past to system make rw,r,r permision
and reboot ur phone & update with Sony Update or do repair with PC Companion everything will be just great
i did the same my phone is wonderful
Really? I have no problems with it at all. Relating to speed, I can even say my S has a quite faster UI than a Galaxy S3 TouchWiz on 4.0.4 (S3 on jellybean is faster, though).
I must admit that with a stock rom I was also disappointed about the overall performance of this smartphone. Its hardware should be more than sufficient to work smoothly with ICS and it doesn't. It lags switching between desktops, in drawing recent tasks list, resuming apps and so on but with a custom rom (my BL is locked, so all of them come from stock) it works great.
It is still a disappointment because although I like to tests roms, they use to have several bugs so you have to flash again and again, wipe, backup, restore. It can be a pain in the neck.
In general, I love this phone, its design, its screen but its software and Sony's updates suport is disgusting.
Just change to other custom rom like XTX V9 or other base .55, you will free with all problem

I am really satisfied with the camera, although a fix on XDA helped to make it focus faster. If you check the thread in this forum where people show their photos, you will see that it can take good photos (at least for a smartphone).
I wasn't thrilled with the stock ICS ROM, so I moved to a custom JB one. That was an improvement; no lags!
Back on the days when I was using stock rom I felt like this phone wasn't that great, I mean I felt it laggy, unresponsive and all that stuffs. However after many roms changes, I found XTx v9, and It's great very smooth. I do really love my phone in this way.
I am happy with my Xperia S from March 2012
It just run a little bit lag after I almost used up the phone memories with many folders on my Home screen.
I just exchange my yellow tint display from sony and reinstall a new custom rom
everything runs fine and fast
Everyone wants to unlock their bootloader so they can run a custom ROM, the supposed purpose being to improve performance and gain new features. But then, once they get the new ROM on there, they keep posting about all the problems they are having, and how this, that or the other doesn't work as well as stock. After goofing with every, and I mean EVERY ROM available for the Razr M, IMHO there's absolutely no reason to use a custom ROM if you are expecting "like stock" performance. It's fun, it's addicting, it can get crazy sometimes, but don't expect it to ever be "Final". More than likely, it will be abandoned the moment a new phone or Android version comes along, and you'll be left with all those unsolved FCs and "almost works" features left hanging. Sad, really.
And then there's the whole "let's take the stock ROM from some other phone entirely and try to make it work on our phone" thing. I totally don't get that. If you like the Necco Choco-Android-o-rama's OS so well, why not just buy that phone instead? I'm just sayin'...
Rooting? That's totally different. I don't know what they do in other countries for bloatware, but Verizon certainly loads up some stinker software here in the US. Tell me, unless you're really into that sort of thing, why would the average shmoe care about Zappos? I certainly don't! And, if I wanted an app for NFL football, I'm perfectly capable of picking one from Google Play, yeah? Same with all the Amazon shtuff. Yeah I get it, advertising helps cover manufacturing costs, and all that jazz. Sure they do it to every new PC from Brand Name X too, but at least you can uninstall it. So rooting is sort of revenge for hogging my limited storage space and then limiting my ability to do anything about it.
And since I'm on this rant anyway, please... PLEASE!!! No more of this "Let's see if we can make our Android look like an iPhone" crap. Or worse, "Windows 8 Phone" crap! - Ewww! That's like taking a Jaguar and trying to make it look like a Ford Pinto... you might manage it, but who the heck would want it?
This rant has been a Public Service Announcement. The thoughts and views expressed herein are not to be considered... period. :silly:
You said it!
I linked to this from my restore where I have a commentary section.
I totally agree. Don't flash ROMs if your going to complain. Its one thing to report to the devs and quite another to ***** about it. And good on ya for the entire rant.

I really hope the motox stock can be ported.
It would be a big event if he & others did it.
I thank them on each post.

I originally rooted and unlocked my bootloader on this phone because of the screen shake issue that a Motorola introduced in an update if that didn't happen I may not of rooted the phone its stock ROM has such a good layout its no wonder so many complain. I however knew what I was getting into. Rule of thumb to new flashers backups are your friend and don't piss off the developers.
I like stock... de-bloat it and its good to go... just wish I could find something to mod the navi bar... remove the recent apps button replace it with the menu button and change color of it...

well, the main reason why folks are not as excited about the new ROMs, is b/c there are not any ground-breaking features on the 4.2.2 or 4.3 operating systems. When I got my first android, I had Froyo. Folks were dying to get to Gingerbread in order to vastly increase performance/battery life.
the deal with Jelly Bean, is that the upgrade from stock 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 or 4.3 is minimal at best - and the changes are mostly aesthetics (although, I read that 4.3 has better bluetooth connectivity). but mostly, 4.2.2/4.3 are primarily geared towards tablets.
the race is on now to see what KitKat can bring to current phone users.
in terms of improvements, just as radorix said, these custom ROMs eliminated the shakes that I was getting on 4.1.2. so for me, while that was not a huge deal, it's enough for me to go custom.
personally, I like the tiles layout of 4.2.2 as well as the AOKP customization, so I'll stick with that for now given that my battery life/performance is stock-like.
*claps* You said it. The Razr M has actually been the first Android phone I owned where I've kept the stock ROM. I think it does fine with 4.1.2 atm, and if I really wanted a change I'd probably just theme it.
The only thing that matters to me is stability and speed. I like a fast phone and I like to o/c, push the phone. I like to test things and try to understand its problems rather than build myself because I don't have the time. If I can find the right medium between speed and stability it becomes my dd, naturally. But stock was built for a reason and every now and then I go back to 4.1.2 because I miss some of the features. Like the far left quick settings menu and Circle Clock. Why have to find a work around to add all these features and fixes to a reimagined custom OS that causes more problems when its already working? We wouldn't have anything to work with if we didn't have the source to start at!
Couldn't agree more. I've had 9 different android devices in the past 4 years. Only ones I haven't rooted are my Sony tablet s (original, don't even get me started with their abandonment of this thing, hey let's leave bugs, make a seemingly unlockable boot loader, not share any code, abandon it after realizing all the bugs exist, then support everything we make after it) and my original nexus 7. I too came back to a stock debloated deodexed ROM for the RAZR M.

Lol. Not the only Sammy device they've dropped. Heard of the Galaxy Player 4.2?
Oh and ezknives, you do realize the menu button is completely redundant right? Considering it pops up if needed and isn't even supported/required for Holo apps

Not for me... with-in various apps it does not... when on different ROMs and I removed the multitasking feature and replaced it with a menu key I was able to utilize features that was other wise inaccessible... like deleting messages in Facebook app for instance... that cannot be done without a menu button or opening your browser and requesting the desktop site... I just need my menu key its never there when I need it...and I don't know what halo apps are nor use it I don't believe...

Holo means apps designed for android 4.0+.
It's the ICS+ ui style. There should be a way to access the menu without a dedicated button - either built-in or by telling the system it's a legacy app that needs the settings button to appear

Meh. I disagree. I've been running CM since it went official and I haven't had any complaints. I experience much-better-than-stock performance and battery life, plus it is way more customizable. I love it!

I just tried it again. Froze on reboot, wouldn't let me into recovery, same BS as all the 4.3 versions. And I wrote the book, well thread, on how to install it, so yeah I wiped etc.

i'm enjoying better than stock performance on the stable 4.2.2 branch, and i built a custom kernel for CM10.1 for better performance. I tried the 'stock' life and its boring lol. The custom ROM features and better performance are what makes it worth it in my view. 4.3 will be even better as work is continually being done on it, and it hasn't been out that long. Also, I think we need to give appreciation to the devs for giving us options as far as what we can run on this phone compared to being stuck with only one choice.
CM is getting good. Recently the "display freezing" issue got fixed, also more fixes for cardock audio and wifi. It simply takes a while to get it all done properly (with that what's left is SIM I/O and HDR (works with Moto X camera application)).
@netizenmt: Booting to recovery is not affected by the ROM you have installed, so you screwed up the installation at some point.

Would you offer a build for a Bluetooth phone user that has the SD swap working?
One that might quiet this thread?

There are a few tricks to getting 4.3 installed and running but it will never happen if u just quite and go back to stock before u get it up and running correctly. I had a terrible time getting 4.3 to boot, keyboard forcing close, stability etc but I figured all that out and wouldn't think of going back to stock. The amount and way if partions the internal drive alone will keep me from ever going back to stock.

You actually just made my whole point.
While it's cool you had time, patience, skill and effort to resolve your issues with 4.3, that's not the point of this thread. So do I. The point is, if you think you're going to slap one of these ROMs on and everything is going to work like stock, forget it. If that's what someone expects, they should stick to stock.

Hi,
I know that there is a discussion thread for 4.3 but instead here I'm interested in those that have or are thinking about downgrading back to 4.1.
I've been using Sony/Ericsson phones for years and most upgrades are good, but some aren't. One of the worst decisions probably was when they upgraded phones with 512mb RAM to 4.0. The phones became so slow that they were almost unusable. It was a perfect example of when an upgrade with an attractive Sony marketing appeal didn't work out well for the average user.
I upgraded normally to 4.3. The phone suddenly kept freezing until it could not be used at all. I had to remove the battery repeatedly. The next day I reinstalled the software via PCC to try to repair. The same situation. I changed the SI codes to other firmware. The same situation. I tried SUS and reset the phone entirely. This helped a little, the freezing is gone. However, there are a few annoyances I have left:
Why I'm Downgrading
1. Almost every time that I press the Home key, the screen stutters like it's having a heart attack. The screen kind of flashes white and black then eventually goes to home. What the heck is that?
2. I like the white UI but I don't like the themes or the dark colours in the SMS/phonebook. I much prefer the bright, happy colours of 4.1.
3. Everytime that I open the phonebook it takes several seconds. The phonebook is one of the apps supposed to be kept in constant memory. Why is closed and reopened all of the time? It's a primary function of a phone and it should work properly.
4. The phone feels slower, despite resetting the phone, repairing the software about 3 times. Why? That is not an upgrade.
5. People talk about the new Xperia Themes and yet they are broken. You have to unlock your bootloader to root to use a theme? That is insane and I'm not voiding warranty for a theme. It was a nice idea advertised by Sony about the 4.3 update (I have the screenshot) and now it is removed from the 4.3 advert. They screwed it up is why.
6. I cannot see any benefit in gaming graphics/speed/whatever else people want to imagine.
What I Need to Upgrade
When a new, major Sony update comes, I've often found it to be very buggy. But, some time later, a new, smaller upgrade comes that fixes many things I wait for that.
1. No lag.
2. No screen freezing / stuttering
Have you downgraded to 4.1? Are you thinking about it?
Please - this is for a genuine discussion with like-minded people. If you think talking about 4.1 is crazy, please no rude comments.
I agree.
And don't forget, the battery drains quicker.

I never upgraded due to there not being a root method for 4.3 with locked bootloader. Like I mentioned, there really is no reason to upgrade especially if they still haven't fixed the blue tint camera problem in low light
i think u guys are not installed cleanly...
becoz mine in 4.3 is awesome,no lag,opengl3.0 activated meaning lot of games which has more graphics will work smoothly,..
bug is themer, battery draining /...but themer has fixer...after that i love 4.3...lot of cool themes...i m using spiderman 2 now
may be sony will fix the both in next update...
4.3 has lot of ported camera,apps...
try them...even z2 camera is ported...
camera quality is improved and can be stored in sd directly ...[till now i didnt face blue tint pics]
I haven't got any issues that you mentioned. I updated my phone via Sony PC companion and then made a factory reset. Everything works fine except few little bugs like not working themes or disappearing Google now shortcut (but I like this bug because this nav bar ring sometimes is really annoying).
p.s.
About battery life: I totally don't feel any difference.
True, phone app doesn't keep in ram but it opens fast (like 2 seconds) so I don't care.

Oh yeah this is the biggest 4.3 issue because with root we can solve all other problems
Good to see others think the same. Also, because I repaired the software and did a factory reset a few times, I don't know why it would be a bad flash? I did try a few times.
I updated and honestly it's smooth and the battery life is equal or better than 4.1 and everything loads quite quick aswell so I'm happy with it at the time being

i just reverted back to 4.1.2, its better overall.
Guys I need urgent help. I cannot restore my sms and contacts after downgrading. I used my backup data from 4.3 using Sony PCC and the built-in restore utility of xperia M, both reports successful after completing the restoration, but after I reboot, I still dont have my contacts and sms.
Ok, right there is a performance issue but some other that op mentioned.
After few days of using multitasking is much more worse than after reboot. I've had the same problem on 4.2 Anyone facing this?

I always use online synchronization of my contacts. So I could change my phone without worrying of contacts.
I trust "youlu address book" for the same for more than 5 years. Actually I love its dialer feature.
we could download contacts to any phone (symbian, android, ios, windows)
Everything works fine here, I did a factory reset 3 days ago and haven't really encountered any issues yet...I can live without root for now, I don't currently have sdcard at all actually, I have a couple of bigger games installed(shadowgun, riptide, minecraft) and a small music collection and I still have 450 mb left. Battery lasts for 1 full day and a half for me, it's more than enough. Therefore, I'm keeping it.

Yeah this happened to me too. If you ever try 4.3 again, you'll see that it reads your SMS and contacts fine. So if it's backed up in 4.3 and restored in 4.1, those two parts don't come out right. Have you ever backed up contacts to your SD card?
If you have no other option, you would have to restore 4.3, restore the backup, then backup contacts to SD in phonebook and use an app to save SMS.

It's strange that some of us have 4.3 working great and the rest of us don't. Plenty of us here know how to flash properly, upgrade, reset or repair in bad cases. I do not know!
Can confirm the performance hit. Apps that are affected include Home (album widget loads noticeably slowly). Album app also loads images slower. Superuser permission requests seem slower (really odd). Also I noticed that Titanium Backup is not able to uninstall system apps (Had to use another app from Play). Will update my experiences.
Overall I also think the phone itself felt snappier with 4.1.2. The lockscreen music player access is absent in 4.3, though themes are a welcome addition.
I've decided to stick with 4.3 for some more time and see if I can work through. Downgrading to 4.1 is definitely on my list though.
thinking to downgrade to 4.1
As all greedy guys out there, i updated my xperia m c1904 to 4.3... 5 days back...
Thing i've noticed so far
1.Getting struck while pressing the home button ( like a jerk)
2.Missing google now on press-hold and drag on the home button.
3.The main reason i updated to 4.3 is for the colorful themes, which seem to be missing as the phone has to be rooted( i dont wanna screw my warranty ) for accessing those themes, so i'm struck with the default themes.
4. The album and the walkman player take quite sometime to open although there is no lag after opening. This is a minor issue i can ignore though.
5. The worst part of 4.3 is the disability of not being able to function the equalizer app to boost the volume. Yes, i am an audiophile and i'd like to listen at loud volumes in my earphones. Whichever equalizer app i install fails to boost the volume of the phone. I haven't found this issue in 4.1 so I might be thinking more for this reason to downgrade my phone.
6.Another worst part is the contact and the call log loading slower than 4.1, when i receive a call it takes about 5secs to display the name which i already have in my phonebook, this is plain annoying and disgusting.
I've heard a lot in forums that a factory reset might help. I'm resetting my phone now, will update if any improvements.
Thanks

Pardon me, how do you active openGL 3.0? Your wording seems as if there is one buried setting that I haven't turned on. I haven't noticed at ALL any improvements to my game, probably even more lag, but I ain't sure cuz I have really bad memory.
Keep in mind that OpenGL ES 3.0 won't make games magically run faster, you'll only see benefits if you run an game or app optimized to use OpenGL ES 3.0 (and there isn't many around -- right now I remember only of Dolphin emulator). Also, any ROM based on Android 4.3 will have OpenGL ES 3.0 enabled, there is no way of turning it off...
