Unable to make outgoing calls - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was originally on LiquidSmooth v2.8, everything was working fine except my network data was going crazy from google service constantly trying to download the 4.3 OTA update. So I decided to upgrade to v2.9 as I've been told that they don't receive the update.
I dirty flashed the rom, and now I am unable to make outgoing calls.
I can still send/receive SMS, network data works and receive calls, just can't call anyone.
I tried to resolve it by flashing to the latest 4.3 stock from google. Installed through toolkit, but still the same problem.
I'm out of ideas, so hoping someone can shed some light in this situation.

First try wiping EVERYTHING and then flash a 4.3 rom. Then try one of the latest radio's for your specific region ! Let me know if it helped.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try it now and keep you updated
EDIT: Still the same problem
I looked into the specifics, I used *#*#4636#*#* and my "ping host name" is set to google.co.uk
Could that have something to do with this?

bump, contacted my service provider, they said everything is good on their end, nothing barred

[Q] Unable to receive calls after CM7?

Hi guys, I have tried to search for a thread on this but wasn't able to find one.
So after installing the latest CM 7, for some reason my phone has been unable to receive calls. I can *MAKE* calls perfectly fine, but zero calls are coming in. Wifi and GPS both work fine. I notice the 3G/service bars do work, but go blank for long periods of time sometimes too.
I've wiped all data dozens of times, did a nandroid restore back to Myn's RLS3, flashed radios again, wiped again... still unable to receive calls. I've tried to update profile and PRL at each step of wiping, but nothing works.
Now, I'm on the latest stock rooted ROM. Do I need to un-root and take this back to the store?
Anyone have this happen to them? I would really prefer not to have to go to Sprint...
In case anyone else has this issue in the future: a quick trip to the Sprint store fixed my problem. They said all they did was a hard reset, but I think it was more complicated than that. I didn't have access to a land line, but in the future I'm going to try to do it with customer service over the phone.
Thanks for all the (non-existent) help XDA.

[Q] I'm Dumb -- Help me get my radio back ( SOLVED )

I was playing around with the nightly build of CM10.1, and my radio stopped working. I flashed what I thought was the stock ROM back with Odin, but then I started receiving an, "Insert SIM Card" message whenever I tried to enable Mobile Data. So I flashed another one I found online. Still, with no luck (though the error was gone), I tried some radios. A dozen radios later, and I can get 3G data -- but still no calls or texts. I've been updating the PRL non-stop, still no luck (except when I'm roaming.)
I'm guessing the problem has to do with the many many files I have in /system/etc/firmware
Is there anyway I can get my radio back to stock?
Thanks!
you need a full odin flash with repartition. do not do this till you know for sure you have the right files to use. you can screw **** up with odin pretty damn quick. lemme search and ill see if i can find the right stuff for you.
EDIT:
I am downloading the files you will need to flash in odin. I want to see that they are indeed the correct ones for you to use. If you need help i can remote connect to your pc and help you out.
22 mins left on the DL and then ill be back

first rule of posting on any forum, "no question is dumb"
Rule number 2 " always ask if there is something you need fixed or need help with"
dont worry youre not dumb. though i may not be able to help you, the person above me hopefully will.
Quick answer from my own findings, the original stock ROM had a bug that doesn't allow it to see the SIM properly, but if you patch it (settings, update - or something like that), it will fix it (there will likely be a few rounds of updates).

The ROMs at Sumsung-Updates.com seem to be trustworthy. Are they?
Anyway, I finally got the issued resolved. It wasn't a radio problem that was blocking me, it was a badly linked Google Voice account. Sprint killed it, and now everything's OK (though I signed up again ^_^)

I had the same problem with the sim card thing...linked it to my wifi and it downloaded like 15 updates and then finally started working normally...probably incorrect stock rom or seriously old...got the one from samsung-updates and that works flawlessly

[Q] Cannot call or receive calls, but can text and use 4G

Ok so I did a ton of stuff to my phone like rooting, flashing different ROMS, but in the end I want to get my phone back to stock, so I flashed the stock firmware with LG Flash Tool but now I can't call anyone and incoming comes don't come through. I just get a "out of service area" after a while whenever I try calling someone. Texting works and internet works, and so does Wifi. Also, my time is 3 hours fast when it's set to automatic in the settings. I don't know why it's doing this. And my IMEI is 0. Here are some pictures of my settings. One more thing. Since I flashed the stock, in my android devices, Google doesn't recognize my old device anymore. It treats this phone like a new device now. Weird... Anyone know how I can fix this problem?
Oh and when I try to update my phone it gives me this: "Your phone is not registered yet"
So many problems, I'm so sad

Do you have a EFS backup? Your IMEI is 00000000000000.... That's NOT the way it should be. Maybe the network provider blocks you from using the network because of an invalid IMEI (don't know for sure) but since you reflashed Stock ROM i don't think it's modem related...
I think I fixed it! I just used the kdz method of going back to stock instead of the tot/dll method and it fixed my problems! I got it from this thread if anyone else has the same problem:

Cannot SEND SMS Tried Everything Please HELP :(

All of a sudden today I cannot send SMS.
I was on a really old build of Cyanogenmod12 (April 22nd I believe) as any time I tried to update to newer Nightly builds I lost all Sprint service could not make/receive calls or texts, etc.
I decided I was pretty fed up with CM12 so I decided to go ahead and migrate to AICP. I wiped everything TWICE in recovery, loaded up AICP and it works fine, I get LTE signal, etc. However I cannot SEND SMS, I can RECEIVE SMS I just cannot SEND. I had done some data restores with Titanium and I figured that somehow some way that might be messing with things. So I did another 100% fresh install after wiping everything.... I can send/receive calls, receive SMS but I cannot SEND SMS
I am really at a loss here guys, ANY help would be greatly appreciated
*#*#4636*#*# change it to CDMA wait 30 seconds send an SMS and do *#*#4636*#*# again change it back to late/CDMA n should be ok
Sent from my SM-N910P using XDA Premium HD app

I stayed up all night last night working on this, let me update the thread with what I have done so far.
I was looking at some stockish ROMs and I noticed that there were warnings on some of them stating that you needed to have the Sprint OTA 5.0 update installed prior to flashing, which I actually never got. My phone came out of the box with Kit Kat and I never installed the 5.0 update, I went straight to CM12 5.0 instead. So I had a theory that there might possibly have been some sort of network data profile, etc or something out of that official 5.0 OTA that I never got that was somehow causing me problems. I decided to revert back to complete bone stock.
I wiped everything and flashed the N910PVPU1BOB7 file (MD5 = 7304e42cf0e241553d8db9e3c3eeed81) which was the official Sprint 5.0 OTA. Loaded it up, updated the PRL, Network Data Profile, etc, etc, etc.... everything works (relatively speaking...... TouchWiz sux balls of course). I have LTE signal, I can send/receive calls, I can send/receive SMS... all good.
So at this point I decided to re-wipe and flash AICP, with the emotion Kernel (latest builds on all). Load it up.... same problem as before. I have LTE signal (stronger than on the stock Sprint ROM), I can send/receive calls, I can receive SMS but I still CANNOT SEND SMS
I tried a few things at this point. I tried to manually reset the Sprint network connection on the phone by dialing ##72786#, this did not work, it returned an error "incorrect MIM code". I tried the *#*#4636*#*# that I have seen suggested in multiple places, this also did nothing, it returned an error "incorrect MIM code". I also noticed on the "mobile networks" tab, and this is true for BOTH CM12 and AICP, that it has the setting at "Global" by default and everything works with exception of sending SMS. Now when I click that tab it only has 3 options LTE, 3g, 2g.... for some reason "global" is not an option, neither is CDMA. Whenever I select LTE it automatically drops me from the Sprint network PERMANENTLY until the ROM is re-flashed there is no way to reverse this. I cannot even dial the manual programming codes "*#* etc" as it just simply says "no network service". If I try to automatically connect to the sprint network through the network operators tab it does in fact find Sprint as my provider, however if I click on Sprint to connect it processes for about 2-3 minutes and then simply returns an error of "cannot connect to the network at this time, please try again later". Again the only way to reverse this is to re-wipe and re-flash again which puts it into the unselectable "global" network setting by default where then I will have LTE signal, I can send/receive calls, and can receive SMS but not send SMS.
So that is where I am at, I stayed up all night last night wiping, flashing, and testing different things over and over. Nothing seems to work 100%, except the stock 5.0.1 OTA which is what I am on now. I really hate TouchWiz and for some reason I get a much weaker LTE signal on stock compared to either CM12 or AICP (I have no clue why this is). I am really at a loss here why everything works on the custom ROMs except for sending SMS..... willing to try almost anything to go back to a custom ROM.
Let me know if you guys have any other ideas.
Well great news I have finally resolved the SMS send issue

pbedard had tried to help me with the above post (which I appreciate, thank you), and I have seen the same advice in other threads. One slight problem though, he slightly mistyped the manual programming code it is actually *#*#4636#*#* not *#*#4636*#*# which I had tried entering ohhhhh I dont know 30 times? :silly: And it always returned an "invalid MMI code".
I had tried everything and after spending a full day on TouchWiz I was determined to fix the issue so I could go back to a custom ROM. I was even manually creating and deleting APNs, etc. Nothing would work. Right as I was about to finally give up (after literally 12hrs of researching the issue and testing fixes) I was reading the official CM 12 thread and came across the "fixes" post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57613217&postcount=3
Because I had tried entering the manual programming code so many times I happened to notice that the last 4 key strokes were not what I had been entering. I entered the correct programming code, boom the Phone Info menu pops right up I follow the directions and what do you know send SMS finally works .... wow what a relief, I am on the latest AICP release on the emotion Kernel and everything works like a charm.
Also by setting the phone to LTE/CDMA through the manual programming menu I have the strongest LTE signal by far, full 100% bars at all times (I live right next to a Sprint tower). I have never understood why I only got 1-2 bars on the stock ROM and 3-4bars on CM12/AICP through the default settings. Anyway thanks for help and I will list out exactly what I did to get it working.
- 100% Stock ROM
- CF Auto Root and TWRP install through Odin
- Reboot to recovery
- Wipe Dalvik cache, system , data, and cache
- Reboot to recovery
- Flash emotion kernel (optional)
- Flash latest AICP build (or custom ROM of your choice)
- Flash latest stock Gapps
- Reboot system
- Confirm Google Messenger is the default SMS app (it will already be if you flashed 5.1 stock Gapps)
- Dial *#*#4636#*#* ("Testing" menu screen will pop up, select "Phone Information")
- Scroll down to "Set preferred network type" click it and scroll up and set it to "CDMA auto (PRL)"
- Wait until 3G signal comes online (takes about 10 seconds)
- Change "preferred network type" to " LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)"
- It should take another 10 seconds for LTE signal to come online and you should be good to go to send and receive SMS ! :good:

Data works on web, but not with calls or texts? (Havoc OS)

Hello there, I'm new to XDA so please inform me if I'm creating this thread incorrectly or not following guidelines.
Anyways, I flashed my first Rom (havoc os) on my Galaxy S9 (snapdragon). I'm having this strange issue where I can surf the web on data (verizon) just fine, but can't receive/send calls or texts. I've tried rebooting, turning on and off airplane mode, factory resetting and messing with it's network settings but couldn't get it working. I'm sort of wondering if it's a Rom issue or not?
Any help would be great, thanks

I guess it could be a rom issue. Something with the csc or modem file maybe.
Best to flash back a stock firmware and test again. Just to verify if it's really the rom.
did you get the correct APN settings in the ROM? ive had that issue before and resolved it that way. Im on a GSM carrier tho, big red is still cdma for its voice if its not VoLTE. could be a setting related to VoLTE come to think of it too
