Hello,
I needed a flashable AOSP browser, so I made one and flashed in my GE HTC One. Works fine.
thanks it worked

I'm running stock GE 4.3 with root, and I flashed it. Didn't seem to do anything.
I also tried a whole variety of methods, some of which people reported working on 4.3, and I've had no luck.
thanks, works well

System folder is write protected by default even with root on stock kernel. Flar2 just posted a stock kernel in the Dev section with write protection disabled.

I'm having a similar problem. I flashed the zip using TWRP 2.6, but it doesn't seem to install the apk anywhere. Running ARHD GE 3.0 currently.

I just flashed the new kernel Flar2 posted, write protection should be disabled now. Although, I tried to copy browser.apk into my system/app folder and I got an "Permission denied" error.

Once you flash a kernel, you will lose root. You need to re-root the device again after flashing flar2's kernel.

I saw the note about that in Flar2's thread, so I reflashed SuperSU 1.5.1 immediately after flashing the kernel, it still wouldn't work. I ended up installing a different ROM with the 4.3 AOSPBrowser built iin, but I'm running into a similar problem where I can't install the Chrome bookmark sync...I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

I was trying to use ROM Toolbox Lite and it says root check failed. So I opened Titanium Backup and it tells me that I don't have root privileges. I even have Superuser, but it doesn't let me update the binary even after tapping to check for updates. Tried a reboot, but same result. I don't know what happened so I'm trying to get my root back. Can anyone help me out here? Do I have to ODIN and re-flash CM 10.1 again? I don't really feel like doing that, but if I have no other choice, then I'll do it.
I'm currently on CM 10.1 Preview (01/20/2013), nitest NS4G 02-05 kernel and NS4G KL2 modem.
Try flashing this up-to-date Superuser package available here: http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
This is what I use to root on FC09 and update Superuser version on CM ROMs. Hope this works

It didn't help.
Went back to FC09 modem and re-flashed CM 10.1 and I'm back to normal with root. So all is good. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I was recently asked to post some threads here on XDA with the tutorials I have on my site. As time permits I will be posting a series of threads here to the Q&A section that will hopefully answer most questions that might come up.
If you can't find your answer in one of my threads I would highly recommend BluesRulez One Stop FAQ Thread. It is an awesome resource and has answers to just about every question I've seen come up!

This thread details the process of how to root your device without having to flash a full stock ROM. This method works for the Sprint, Boost and Virgin Samsung Galaxy S2 (SPH-D710, SPH-D710BST and SPH-D710VMUB).
This method uses an Odin One-Click Kernel to install a kernel that includes a Custom Recovery. Once booted into the Custom Recovery you can then flash Superuser which will root your phone and give you Superuser access.
Prerequisites:
A PC running Windows with the Samsung Mobile Drivers Installed. The Samsung Mobile Drivers are available here.
Any One-Click Kernel (preferably from the Android version you will be using, i.e. GB, ICS or JB).
All Sprint One-Click Recovery kernels can be found here.
For this particular tutorial I used the following kernels:
Gingerbread: Chris41g's EL26 Stock CWM5 Repack
Ice Cream Sandwich: Agat63's tFI27 Stock Recovery Repack (rev 2)
Jelly Bean: Agat63's Source-Built GB27 Recovery
Superuser (or SuperSU, MIUI Security, and etc) in a flashable zip, saved on your Internal or External SD Card. For this method I used SuperSU v1.25 (but any SU in a flashable ZIP should work). You can download several different versions here.
Although not required it is recommended that you have Samsung Kies installed on your PC as well. You can download Samsung Kies here.
Side-Effects:
This method will trigger the Yellow Triangle upon start-up and will increase your Odin count.
It will also change your startup screen to look like the International GS2 startup screen.
Both of these side-effects are very easy to overcome due to the hard work of Chainfire and Garwynn. You can get TriangleAway from Chainfire's thread here.
For the rest of the tutorial please visit my site: www.rwilco12.com
Enjoy!

Will any of these methods work with FL24? I'm new to rooting Samsungs and am used to simply rooting via exploits through ADB. I have the phone rooted (temp rooted?) via the exploit in Framaroot and am trying to get a custom recovery installed next to flash a ROM. Thanks!

The Kernel One-Click flashes the kernel and recovery together. They are combined on the E4GT.

You might have to turn SU on depending on which version you flashed. Open the app and see if under settings you see something like "Enable SuperUser" and make sure it's enabled.
If that doesn't fix it we may need to try another zip with a different set of symlinks. Either way, we're here for you and will get you squared away.

If you're asking - Can I flash VM builds on the Sprint D710, the answer is - yes. Did it when I tested the builds and everything worked properly.
If you're asking - Can I flash a VM build and be on VM service? Obviously you'll need to be activated to their service and provisioned properly. That's when you'd need to make sure that mmsc/apn/nv data is captured. I don't know if VM is a byod provider. (write that shiz down)

Yes. Many, many people have used this method successfully.
There's nothing wrong with a stock kernel, it just doesn't have a custom recovery packed into it or any kernel tweaks.
But I am confused... If you're already rooted why are you pulling your hair out?

Well mostly because I'm a noob lol. I heard also that if you do a factory reset with stock kernel you will brick it. But I want the extra options anyway. and really want to flash aJB ROM. Thank you very much for quick response, I shall give this a go in the morning.

K. Before you dive in too much further I would recommend doing a little more research. This device had had issues in the past that have made it very easy to brick. You should be very careful.
As a side note - This thread is a how to root thread but it sounds like you're already rooted. I don't know that there's any reason to reroot your device. You don't actually have to be rooted to get on JB either. You could just flash a one-click of a JB ROM.
After I got my Galaxy S4, I immediately rooted it using CF-Auto-Root. I loved the rooted phone, but there were a few problems with the root permissions:
- SuperSU and all rootcheckers confirmed that I had root access
- ES File Manager would not let me use the Root Explorer feature, it ended with a "Sorry, test failed. This feature cannot run on your phone."
- A paid Root Explorer would let me modify the /system partition
- I could not start Complete Linux Installer, I got errors about permissions starting /root/init.sh
- "adb remount" did not work, even after "adb root". It did work when I used "adb shell" and then "su".
When I downloaded the kernel source from http://opensource.samsung.com/ to make some adjustments, the problems did not disappear. After doing some research, I found the cause: http://gs4.wonderhowto.com/inspirat...galaxy-s4-and-its-new-secured-kernel-0146787/ If you change the lines after ## Samsung rooting ... in .config in the kernel source from =y to =n and then build the kernel, you'll get a system with full root permissions.
For those of you who aren't into building kernels, the same task can easily be achieved by flashing a custom kernel after having flashed CF-Auto-Root. The Adam-kernel from wanamlite (http://wanamlite.com/2013/06/21/adam-kernel-galaxys4-lte-v1-4/) for example. I included a boot.img for flashing with mobile odin, it is a new kernel with only the root permissions fixed. Don't flash the attachment zip but extract it and then flash it with mobile odin, the .img was too large for me to upload. If you get stuck at the logo, reflash the stock firmware from http://sammobile.com/ via odin, you won't loose your files, and leave a comment.
I smell a new developer
nice tip :good:
Used mobile odin flash the boot.img ended can't turn on wifi. Other all worked. So flashed back adam 1.4 kernel.
Send via i9505 using XDA premium,

Hey!
I'm having some trouble even installing roms really... I used CF-Autoroot and it seems fine but when I try to install anything in either twrp or cwm it won't mount different folders and I get different kinds of permission messages!
Any idea what that could be?

I dont think the problems you experience flashing roms have anything to do with the kernel (because the kernel hasn't been loaded yet). When I flashed CyanogenMod on my S4 I had problems too with "set_perm" in custom recoveries, but trying to flash it over and over again solved it.

Yeah, keeping pushing it seemed to work for me as well (until I got it all ****ed up somehow later on) but I'm kind of looking for a solution because I can't believe it has to be the way to do it...
I saw on a thread that someone was using "Multiboot" to run CM11 as their daily driver but also having TW on it to use for WiFi calling and such.... I want to ask:
Was this a fib?
If not then how can I do it?
Is there a guide I can look at?
If it is possible then I would like to run CM11 and TW 4.1.2, I already have the images and ODIN for that. I never updated to 4.3 so I don't think that is a problem?
If you have help please quote my post so I can get a handy email of the response ^-^

Get the AT&T version 2.12 - it has a fix in it for the External SD card that appeared in 2.11. While it's an AT&T recovery, it'll work fine on our phones as the TMO and AT&T S3 are the same phones.
Once you have the file, flash it via CWM and you'll have a MultiBoot TWRP as your recovery. The thread for the MultiBoot Recovery has a couple of Youtube videos that walk through setting up additional ROMs. I'm currently using z999 (Odexed 4.1.2 TW ROM) as my backup ROM to use for Wi-Fi calling.

For some reason, on the 2.11 version, I couldn't get the secondary ROM to see my external SD card. I backup all of my apps there - it was a pain to copy my backups to the internal SD card. There were a lot of comments about the issue on the AT&T forum and the developer put out a new version (2.12). However, he never put out a version for d2tmo - only d2att. So, I messed around with the install script and loaded the newer recovery on my phone. External SD problem solved.

Okay so I am researching how to do it and I believe I understand BUT the T-mobile TW file I have has to be flashed through ODIN, it's not a zip, and I want CM to be my stock ROM. So I was searching for a 4.1.2 TW rom (I prefer that version) and couldn't find any zip files...

The multi boot recovery won't "find" your CM ROM - it will always be the "internal" ROM. Multi boot will only show secondary ROMs in the multi boot menu. Anytime you want to boot CM, just boot the internal ROM.
Give me some time and I'll do a video on how to set up multiple ROMs.

Would it be possible for me to use a 4.3+ ROM using multiboot? I have the old boot loader or whatever that came with 4.1.2 along with those modems etc.
If it's possible to run a 4.4.4 aosp ROM on the old boot loader how come you can't run newer versions of TW? If there is a ROM I can use along 4.1.2 that'd be nice.
TW roms have Knox.

To be honest, I don't know. From what I've read, some of the 4.3 ROMS don't play nicely with MultiBoot. I haven't given it a try yet. If you're willing to give it try, please let me know what you find. The good new is, if you try it as a secondary ROM and it doesn't work, you can just delete it.

Interesting. Very weird it works on stock but not on aosp. Now that you have odined back to stock have you tried to re flash a aosp rom and check the camera? What stock rom are you odin-ing?
Are you also flashing any other mods or custom kernels?
I would try cm11 with just gapps installed and see what happens.
I doubt it's a hardware issue if it works on stock. Do you use any third party camera apps?
Sorry for lots of questions just trying to narrow down the problem.

well there's the TowelRoot option that would require you to download SuperSU and BusyBox from the playstore then there's using Odin to flash any Custom Recover for the D2lte then in that recovery flashing Chainfire's SuperSU zip....then the most recommended is using Odin to flash the latest Philz Recovery for the D2lte which has an option to root the current rom that your on, under Philz settings

well it's a touch based Clockwork mod recovery and you can change the colors of all the letters that are visible and there's more options in there to do cool stuff and 2 different factory resets

so i gave wicked x a shot an its way kool and the camera works. still clueless as to why aosp roms camera wont work. Let the fun begin lol. thanks for the help guys i appreciate it
I got the same problem with my GS3. Tried several different roms and different builds of those roms that people reported having no problems with and still no fix.
Going to try Wicked X see what happens.
Ive been flashin roms for about 4years. I love aosp but then i had to try wicked X. Its absolutley amazeing. Ive had no reboots, no freezin, awesome battery life, and best of all... EVERY feature on the rom an of the phone works flawless!!! Try it ull be amazed lol
camera works fine on Wicked x. Don't like the rom though. So I'm switching back to 2.37 LS it worked fine on my previous device
I used LS 3.2 on my previous phone, galaxy nexus 4. For some reason i cant get the camera to work on my s3 on LS

Same here, I never ran stock rom on the phone. First thing I did was to root and flash the room.
I'm so use to LS since I ran it pretty much entire time for past 2 years. Very disappointed with camera issues in v3.0. Hope they get it taken care of soon.
