[Q] Maps Unusable in Car Mode Since Update - HTC One X

Since the fairly recent updates to Google Maps I've not been able to get it to work properly under Car Mode. I use Car Mode fairly often, unfortunately.
For example:
- If I set a route up, go to the home page, put some music/internet radio on, back to home page and press Navigation it clears the route and starts again
- After that it continually crashes and I have to exit and re-enter Car Mode to get it to work again
- There is no longer a Car Mode navigation home screen when you press Navigation, it's just the Navigation main page (makes it a pain to find things)
Anybody know if it can be fixed at all?

I'd expect it to be fixed in HTC's Sense update coming soon...until then it looks like a straight incompatibility between the way Car Mode and the new Maps/Navigation do things. Very likely the amalgamation of Maps and Navigation into a single integrated app.
You are not alone in this problem, there is much complaining.

Recalling active application when coming out of sleep mode

Yesterday I was doing some exploring, on foot, using Google Maps on my TP2. What I would do was check Google Maps, get a satellite lock, plan the next few minutes' walking, then press the power button to put it in "sleep" mode. A few minutes later I'd repeat the procedure - take the phone out, press the power button to wake it up, go back into Google Maps, etc.
The problem was that when I put the phone in sleep mode, Google Maps was the active application, in the foreground; but when waking up again, Google Maps had been pushed into the background, and the phone was displaying the TouchFlo home tab instead. That meant that every single time I did this I had to go into the task manager and bring Google Maps back to the foreground again.
Is there a way to get the phone to automatically bring up whichever application was running when it was switched into sleep mode and not default back to the home screen?
This is one of my biggest gripes about the Touch Flo.
It just get's in the way of so many things.
Does this happen only if you manually put it into sleep mode, or does it also happen if the screen goes dark on it's own?
This is my biggest gripe. I want to stay in the application I left when the phone went into sleep mode. The funny part is the application is running for a split second right before TF default back to the home screen. Massively irritating. I like TF and all but I want to start the app I was running right when I put the phone in sleep / suspend. It's BS.
So, this explains why the phone defaults back to the home screen when I am in the middle of a call. It is not just that the phone wants to always be on the homescreen, but that the Touch Flo specifically forces its way "in front" of anything else that is running.
That gives me even more of a reason to want to upgrade from the T-Mobile ROM that my phone came with. I like Touch Flo actually but this has become so irritating that I would happily give it up so I can call my voicemail and enter passwords/delete messages without having to open the phone five times per call...

That's starting to annoy me as well.

[Q] B0F1 update breaks car home?

Does anyone know of a way around the fact the Car Mode now prompts you to select either Android Auto or S Voice each time it starts now, after the recent B0F1 update?
If I choose Android Auto, my Home button becomes useless. It will flash up a screen telling me to start auto in my car and touch the display (I don't have Android Auto in my car). If I install the Android Auto app, it essentially does the same thing.
If I choose S Voice, well, then I'm stuck with that crappy app each time I start Car Mode
While Car Mode was always rather limited on the Note 4 (lack of support for home button launching your car app of choice), it was at least useful for keeping the screen on. I use A2DP Volume to start Car Mode when I connect to my in-car BT. Before the update, Car Mode simply put the steering wheel icon in notification, and kept my screen on all the time (if charging). This was perfect.
Now, I have to choose one of 2 useless apps, which breaks my Home button.
In lieu of a fix, does anyone know of a simple, reliable way to keep the screen on? Most of the techniques I've tried in the past were unreliable.
Apparently, the fix is as easy as installing a "car home" app that registers as such...
I had Auto Mate installed, which didn't seem to register as a selection. I installed Car Home Ultra, and when I'm in Car Mode, I get the popup to select either Android Auto, Car Home Ultra, or S Voice.
Now my home button always brings up Car Home Ultra. So, they didn't make it worse, they fixed the broken home button behavior, *if* you have a proper home app installed.
Enable developer mode, there is an option in it to keep screen on while charging. Thats what I did.
Go to : Settings > About Phone
then tap "Build Number" until it flashes a toast message telling you Developermode has been enabled.
Then under Settings you will now see Developer Options, go into that menu and check the box for "Stay Awake"
SOLVED.

Can't see full screen in Google Maps

Is anyone else having the issue of their on screen nav buttons cutting off part of the google maps screen? When I'm navigating I can't see the ETA section or hit the 'X' to close navigation. Really annoying. I'm wondering if it's a maps app issue or possibly the ROM I'm using somehow. I'm on the latest ICE custom ROM. Also, it might be related, but when the pop up asking which app i want to use for various options pops up (ie when I click a number to call it asks if I want to use phone or skype) I can't click on the 'Just Once' or 'Always' option because it makes me hit the nav keys (even though I am hitting the 'Always' selection). Thanks for any help.

Screen search unavailable in car mode?

I keep getting this error when in car mode and saying "OK Google" Does anyone know what this is from? I have been able to use ok google in car mode before
I have been getting this recently on my s7 edge. I was pretty sure it worked before.
You guys figuer this out? I know i was able to do this before. Have either of you done any system level changes recently ie xposed, new rom etc? It really is agrivating.
I am pretty sure the issue is with car home ultra. I don't know why it is happening all of a sudden.
if you disable car home ultra from entering car mode. You can still use "ok google" I think google disabled the search from being used outside of maps.
Well without car mode you can't use it as a launcher in the car so the whole program kinda becomes useless i just added a button to google on the main carhome page and hit that before I say it for now.

Back/Home Gestures Or Buttons Stop Working

I've noticed since going to the official Android 10 update and then the October update, if the phone sits idle for a while the the back or home functions stop working (both with gestures and the pill). I can open other apps from the notification pull down and navigate forward. I also cannot pull up the keyboard. I tried to submit a log file to Google but Google requires me to type a description of what happened and I can't do that. The only option is to restart the phone from the power menu. Once that happens it's back to normal functioning. This has happened at least 5 times. Has anybody else experienced this?

Yes! This has been driving me crazy since updating to 10! I finally got fed up and came here looking for answers.
For me it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the phone being idle. It seems to happen after playing video (or potentially other full-screen things, like a game for example). Not sure if it's related to going full screen or maybe going landscape.
When it happens, it seems to only be the home gesture. Back works fine (and sometimes I can keep doing the back gesture to get out of it)
Restarting is usually the quickest way to fix it, but if I don't want to restart, I've found that if I go to settings and switch to 3-button nav, the home button will work again. With 2-button nav, home still doesn't work but multitasking does. Very odd.
I'm suffering from the same problem. I had to switch back to the pill but I've gotten so used to gestures that the pill is tedious.

I'm having the exact same problem as you. It seems to always happen when I'm playing something full screen in landscape mode. I've just been restarting my phone each time. Thanks for the info about switching back to the three button. There are times when I'm in the middle of something and restarting is just inconvenient.
I did a factory reset 2 days ago and it hasn't happened since. I did not use any backup except for phone calls and text messages.

Yeah it's random with me at times the back button becomes useless. Thanks Google for this bug. I can't reset my phone every f time!
