Hey guys. Just came over from the Motorola Atrix HD and loving my Ion dearly but its time to root. So I followed the instructions in the sticky page using windows PC and it didn't work. I even followed the video tutorial word for word and nothing happened. (Talking about the back up and restore root). However I just want to know if anyone has tried it on the recent firmware update because I had updated the phone before rooting. Here is my About Phone:View attachment 2167699
Can anyone tell me what's going on? I've rooted many phone before this so I know how to follow directions but every phone is different right?
Has anyone tried to root on this firmware?
For those who cannot see the attachment:
Android Version: ICS
Build #: 6.1.C.1.111
I also tried Linux with working ADB.

You know what, I haven't even thought of that. I'll give that a try if I can do so in an Ubuntu machine. If not I'll have to wait until I get my hands on a windows one. But I'll def give that a try.

@derrickdroid in order for me to flash the pre-rooted firmware I would either need CWM which needs root to be installed or the flashtool which is a bit tricky to get onto Ubuntu. I already have adb set up on my laptop but the steps in order to get flashtool working on Ubuntu is being a pain in the neck. Ill give it a go tomorrow night.

I have used at least 7 different programs but none of them work.
Im afraid the problem is i cant get into fastboot mode and my blue light wont turn on.
If thats the problem is there a way to fix it?

Wait if you are just rooting you don't need to do that. What model is your phone?
Check if your bootloader isn't locked and you have unlock it first.
Rooting methods like Zerg rush not working on 2.3.4 software.

What I would do is flash back but at first check if your fastboot is actually not working.
Turn off the device and check it, take out the battery and put it back in then hold search button and plug in usb if you have a blue light then fastboot is ok.
You also need Android ADB drivers which you need to have the Android SDK to get them or if you have flashtool there is a drivers folder which is the simplest method to install ADB bridge.
Then using flashtool (if it worked) flashed the DoomLord Kernel, if it says you have no permission to do so then you need to unlock your bootloader.

Ok I will most defenetly install the adb drivers once I know where to get them. How do I know if I have the android sdk?
I have the flashtool but when I downloaded it it came with 3 programs and no folders.
Can you give me the link to the folders or to the flashtool that has the folders with it when you install it?
I also need the link to the doom kernel which I might have and instructions on how to flash it.

You should first download flashtool. Then use flashtool to flash the verizon firmware. I will provide a link. Then enter flashmode by turning your phone off completely. Hold the back button, and plug the usb in the computer and then into the phone while still holding the back button. A green light should appear on the top. Then flash the firmware and there. Then use superoneclick to root

Luckily you have flashtool so you do not need the Android Sdk. There should be a drivers folder in your flashtool and an executable inside that will install like a normal program. This contains all the drivers you will ever need.
On every time it installs one it will prompt you to install or not install jusf click install and you will be asked this about 20 times for each driver.

If I remember correctly, the xperia play 4g was R800at and not R800x. Well anyway you have to download the firmware for your phone. Then place it in the firmware folder inside the flashtool folder. This should be the correct firmware for your phone. http://www.mediafire.com/?qqvtl484nlz3gq0 just place the ftf in the firmware folder. Start flashtool, click flash, then choose flashmode. Select the firmware. There should be instructions on how to plug in your phone and there it should flash.

Hi guys,
I am trying to update a stock standard GB 2.3.6 LT15i for my boss.
I have tried doing it via PC Companion, but it seems to get stuck in an update loop. It says that an update is available, and starts to download files - but then goes back to the beginning of the process after about 20 minutes.
I have tried this on 2 different PC's, both Win 7 x64.
I would like to try update the phone using FlashTool now, but I am used to Samsung phones, so I am not sure of the steps.
I just wanna confirm if it is ok to flash this file via FlashTools -
LT15i- Generic GLobal World 4.1.0.B.587 (16/8/2012)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836071
I do not plan on rooting the phone, but I also want to know if this is gonna clean wipe the phone? I will do a backup in PC Companion.
Anything I might need to know? Do I need to worry about bootloaders?
Thanks in advance.
It's okay to flash that file with Flashtools. It's really easy and there is a very small chance to do anything to your phone. Even if you brick it it will be only a soft brick (0.0001% chance to soft-brick it) And yes, it will wipe the phone
You dont have to worry about bootloaders, as long as you flash stock sony roms there wont be any problems
Thanks malimukk, I'll give it a try this morning.
Remember to check the no final verification box or you will get an error message, the phone will be ok and will be updated.

Have your phone on with USB debugging and unknown sources enabled. Plug in the USB and open the rooting .bat file. Choose option 2 then hit enter. Open backup & restore and restore the rootme backup. Don't touch it from there (unless a box pops up on the phone which you can hit okay) phone will reboot and it should do its thing. The .bat file screen will tell you everything so read what it says. Shouldn't be any hitting of any other option except 2 for the Sony phones.

I know I sound like a noob, but truthfully I am a noob when it comes to Sony Xperia devices, the last Sony device I mod'd was a PSP-3000 series. I guess it has been a while, in the mean time I have had an HTC Inspire 4g (Desire HD/Ace) which when it came to development was AMAZING, and then I had an SGH-i777 (the AT&T non LTE variant of the SGS2) I now have an LT28at. I have rooted it and installed CWM. When attempting to flash a rom I get an error 7 message, not my first time getting these but I can't work out a way around it on this phone. I hope my efforts weren't a waste, but if they still were please tell me.

Bricked it
I attempted to install it by wiping system and then installing the rom, I got the same issue and made the mistake of shutting it off rather than restoring it to my backup. Is there anything I can do? No problem... Ya you gotta be carefull because most of the roms in the dev section require an unlocked bootloader, and there is currentlly no way to unlock the ATT varient of the ion (lt28at). There are some like the Miui port that is locked bootloader friendly though. Make sure you read the roms description and follow instructions EXACTLY maybe read some posts in the thread as well to make sure it is okay to flash on locked bootloader. The cool thing is at least you can flash official ftfs of the other varients when they become available when spectre posts em on that wiki page. (us ATT users will get jellybean waaaaay before ATT gets around to it haha)

Yeah, I'll make sure to keep in track with it. I am starting to get used to this, I just wish that I could have a touch based recovery. I got too used to it.
Device info:
Acro S running stock 6.2.b.1.96 with locked bootloader
This is what I believe is the process in short:
Flash 6.2.B.0.211 Kernel
Use DoomLord's one click root .bat
Flash 6.2.b.1.96 Kernel
I am getting stuck on the second step. The batch file says "LT26w (6.2.B.1.96) is not supported". My question is, shouldn't flashing a kernel change the build number? Am I goofing up somewhere? Feels stupid when the same thing works for everyone else so there are no similar posts.
Thank you for your time.

I'll be damned. Was using v16 instead of v18 of his easy rooting toolkit. Solved. Thanks man for pointing it out.
Great to hear you're sorted. I'm looking to get my Acro S rooted over the next week or two and I wondered if I could ask you a couple of quick questions please?
Did you back up your apps and data before rooting?
How did you get to flash the earlier FW? Flashtool seems to say disconnect usb, turn off, then press and hold the back button , the reconnect the usb lead and turn back on - I have tried this but nothing seems to happen
I have installed Flashtool and the adb drivers.
Any pointers you can give would be great.
Cheers,

I have installed Flashtool and the adb drivers.
Any pointers you can give would be great.
Cheers,
John

Great to hear you're sorted. I'm looking to get my Acro S rooted over the next week or two and I wondered if I could ask you a couple of quick questions please?

Flashing .211 FW issue
Hi guys. I'm encountering an issue with my acro S that has .96 firmware. I've been trying to flash the .211 FW for a couple of times but still stuck with the .96. As per the threads abt flashing, it takes minutes but mine just takes a couple of seconds. As of the moment I deleted the flashtool and currently dloading it again. Just not sure that could be the problem. Any help?
First of all you flash the whole .96 firmware, then .211 kernel and then root (make sure unkown resources and usb debuggin checked) and watch on ur phone and accept superuser permission... then flash back .96 kernel....

Nope. No need. Since you are just flashing the kernel, you dont lose any data. If you are really new to this, it wouldnt hurt to take a backup, in case things go south.
In any case, the link ronin1728 posted looks great and hassle free.

Even if you flash the .211 kernel (NOT the whole firmware), the build number will still show as .96 but the easy rooting toolkit will read it as .211.
Check out ronin1728's link for an easier alternative.
Belated thanks for the advice folks,
I followed Ronins link to vroot and it worked like a charm
Now to start getting rid of some bloatware......
