Few questions....

Hi i got many questions...and issues
-Internal memory : jeez i installer 2 dozen applications and i got 13m left and the alert about low memory (which cant be deleted)
seriously??? 13mb left???? how can it be possible ! when i check the application list, i have like 40-60mb (made a quick calcul) installed ! i cant even isntall google earth ! and what the hell is "contact list" app? its almost 30mo!!
-Wifi tethering : any way without root? for tether with ipad
-Push mail through the HTC app...possible?
-How can i change the defaut app to open for X action...
-Can i use another SMS software with the HTC message widget? exemple when i click new message it open the defaut one...
-How can i use picasa ? i keep having an error (authentification...) in gallery app.
-voicesearch and speech to text. Installed HTC IME KB, Voice app and nothing work. I cant have the keyboard in the list of KB. And voice search doesnt work...(error connex)

For all those questions, yes you do as it does them...the Desire doesn't as yet.
- It has Push for Googlemail, I think there is another app you can use for other account types
- Can't change default apps
- Can't use other SMS software (I don't think, could be wrong)
- Can't tether without rooting (as you've said)
HD2 does all these, some stock some with custom ROMs

- what about the support for Exchange push in the mail program?
-if you install another program, you may be able to. you can remove the defaults for applications in the settings. that's why you can switch between homescreens once you have installed launcher2.apk....
- there's plenty of other SMS software in the market, ChompSMS, Handcent etc.
- yes, you need to root.

But overall, yeah, it sounds like for the kinda stuff you want to do, winmo would be better all round.

Honestly you don't need google Earth it's 22mb and the maps does the same thing!
Also big drain on battery (Earth and Maps) so not something you would want to use all the time anyhow.
Search around for apps as you may find one that does same but for less space.
Also, are you using all the apps? Are a lot of them just games?
Be smart with the limited space.
It's not ideal I know, but until anything changes not a lot you can do.

Yes, this is a pain. I wish Google would let us put stuff on SD card already without having to root the phone and HTC needs to put less preinstalled crap too replacing it with OTA on demand instead. Teeter? WTH!
-Wifi tethering
Yes, PDANet and some other application allow BT/WiFi/USD tethering with Windows/OSX and Linux. Probably not with iPad because it has no USB, BT is crap (if same as on iPhone) ... not real OS X.

No. Google's own email app will do push for Gmail accounts only. HTC email will check at specified intervals.

You can't, as far as I know.

Yes. There are two very popular ones, but HTC's own is all I need.

Yes. Not sure about your error. You can get Gallery app from N1 and use that instead of HTC's Photos.

Hmm, by default HTC IME doesn't do voice. I installed Voice Search with Android default keyboard and have that feature now. Although I rarely use it. Swype FTW! Check the forums there was a link to the apk to get it all working.

You've summed up some of the biggest problems with Android and the Desire.
The inability to install apps to an SD card is a big problem - one that can be solved by waiting for root, or by waiting for the next release of Android (I think Google have said they are working on this feature for the next version). Basically, just by waiting.
I use IMAP IDLE with the K-9 email app for push IMAP email from my fastmail.fm account. Works instantly and perfectly. Love it.

My Applications/Manage Applications FCs on me all the time (it is probably some app installed from apk that causes this problem). Don't see said app show up in APK or ASTRO.

No accounts setup in CM7

Hello, whenever I flash CM7 (either the stables or nightlies) I never get the setup options.
So I can't log into my Google account.
I have tried doing it manually but the Google account does not show neither does Facebook or any of the other options.
Trying to log in through the mail app presents a "could not find server error"
Does anyone have a solution for this.
I've tried searching the forum for a similar post and Googling the problem both with no luck, sorry if It's a repost

when i first rooted last year, it took me ages to realise this. I spent ages, about 4 weeks looking for all the apps to download - and couldnt work out why the market wouldnt accept my gmail account i just added to the mail app, this was before i discovered XDA that has since made my life a lot easier

It's been months actually, I resorted to jokerdroid when I gave up on finding the solution. And like you I've found this lifesaving forum. Is there a way to get Facebook and twitter intergration back or should I just download their apps?

hi all, i flash GApps last 2 weeks on a non wi-fi spot/place and there were no apps installed, i already installed the market only through 4shared download and i'm planning to flash again GApps, will it cause problems ?

Gapps only flashes the Android Market. It doesn't literally flash all the Google Apps(Gmail, Goggles etc.)

after i flash GApps, no market was installed, it can be seen on add widgets and invisible in home screen and also not in the app drawer. any tips sir ?

yes it does. flashing GAPPS adds all these:
CarHomeGoogle.apk – Car Dock interface (with the large simplified icons / shortcuts).
CarHomeLauncher.apk - Car Dock interface (with the large simplified icons / shortcuts).
Contacts.apk – Contact/People manager, front end GUI.
ContactsProvider.apk – Database backend for contact manager.
Facebook.apk – Facebook application. Up to date version available from Market.
GenieWidget.apk – Homescreen widget which provides weather/news.
Gmail.apk – GMail application. Also installs Mail sync provider.
GoogleBackupTransport.apk – Allows backup option in settings menu to functions, backing up settings/apps to Google servers. (?)
GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk – Installs Calendar sync provider. Registers specific calendars on device for use in other Calendar applications.
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk – Installs Contact sync provider. Required for Google Talk application to function correctly.
GoogleFeedback.apk – When a program crashes, option to log crash report.
GooglePartnerSetup.apk – Unknown, most likely used on initialisation of device.
GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk – Widget on home screen for quick search. Also has voice search shortcut, and search type box.

It added the market in my case, maybe your g-apps wasn't compiled correctly

Why would it be called gapps (Google Apps) if it only added the Market and not the rest of the Google Apps?

Solved, now also app with more than 2GB are shown

I've tried the XAP you uploaded a few minutes ago and I still get only 11 apps. I think it's more than what I had earlier. (BTW I have HD7 Fully unlocked with Custom ROM)

this is a great application,but have no chinese language,

work corectly on my Omnia 7 with custom rom

it's really slow to list all my apps, since I have 90+ IsolateStorage folders (and I know people with even more apps installed).
But this app found some "left overs" from some app I did not unistalled correctly (app folder was still there, but the app was not listed among my phone apps)

yep.. i have 113..
with thousands of files... it's hard to speed up the procedure..

Oh man, I needed this... I'm always up against my phone's storage limit, and was considering writing an app like this just for my own usage. Thank you so much!! Simple, useful, and providing a feature that the OS itself lacks; the best characteristics of homebrew. Well done!

All that said, a few suggestions:
Fill in the Version field in the app manifest. It will make it easier to distinguish which version we are using, expecially for people who use XapHandler or another app that shows the version number.
Sorting by app title is good, but for an app like this I'm usually less concerned by "How much space is this using" and more by "What is using all my space" so maybe have the option to sort instead by Install size, Data size, or Total (combined) size? That would be fantastic.
Great job already, though. I especially like the background loading; it really reduces the annoyance of the wait time.

Here is my wish list :
A bar which can give a preview on how much space will be free when one or Multiple apps are selected.
Multiple select to see how much space apps take together.
Ability to uninstall app using the context menu.
Ability to launch the app.
Sort by Name, Install Size, Data Size.

Small bug: it doesn't handle ampersands in app names correctly. For example, "AT&T Mobile Transfer" turns into "AT&T Mobile Transfer"
Feature request 1: Add alphabetical deliminators when the app list is sorted by name so we can jump to a specific letter of the alphabet. That list takes a LOT of scrolling at the moment, lol.
Feature Request 2: Remember the previously obtained app size data and refresh it when the app is launched rather than starting over from scratch.

Save apps to PC and access wide range of application on Play Store

Hello All...How have you been..!!
This might seem to be a duplicate post, but I thought of sharing the information to collate all the processes to save APKs from the market place as well as to get access to wide range of applications on the play store to which we ACE user don't have access..
Well found two processes...
1. For Custom Rom lovers, it is a regular heck to download all the application from market place after each format.. or get the apks from some third party site... So why not back up all the APKs from Play Store itself...
For that I found an awesome application on XDA called REAL APK LEECHER... which allows one to save the apks straight away to their PC and also scan for any updates..
The steps to do so can be found here..
But now there is a loop hole ... you can only download the apps compatible to your device model (corresponding to the Device ID)..
Now the trick though a stupid one...
Simpler way :: Ask your friend having a high end model to add your gmail ID to his/her device... and then access Play Store for at least once.. Take his/her Device id (using *#*#8255#*#*) You are done.. Remove the account... Register the device id/gmail Acc on APK leecher and access most of the apps..
But your friend might not allow to share his/her device ID, what to do now...
Harder way :: Google for some Random Device ID ... Use some app on the play store to change your device ID... Download at least one app from play store... You can again access all the apks using the above process..
2. Well found another application... This is the best.. though it is not free... is the Device Spoofer app...
Spoof you device to any given model... Download as many apps possible..
These helped me... I guess might help some one else too...

I download apps & each time they get updated, I send them to my another phone using bluetooth file transfer & then save them to pc. Much easier right ?

The process seems to be useful for users like me who have slow & limited data usage plans.. Moreover updates done over PC..
Rest the Device Spoofer is an awesome app.. Now i have access to almost all the apps on play store...

It's nice that you can be linked to apps that your device doesn't support remotely but the process seems to be quite complicated and not everyone has a friend willing to share their gmail stuff...

[Q] Multi-user function

Hi,
We are 2 users on the tab s & we wanna use one same game (sims freeplay) but i did not find a way to allow an app for 2 account. The game need ~700mb & with only 16gb it's huge if i must download the game twice...
Any idea ?

What Android version are you running?
Is your device rooted?
Doesn't the game offer different accounts? Maybe trough different google accounts.

Lollipop 5.0.2 no root.
Yeah, the game save on a facebook account that is connected on the device but it's not really simple to change the facebook account each time. And the android version allow user session (c.f: http://gadgetguideonline.com/android/lollipop/how-to-use-android-lollipop-guest-user-mode-and-multiple-users/)
So, i am using this but if i have an app on my session, i am the only one who can open this app. I am looking for a way to allow an other user to open this app.
