What is the best game to test on the new nexus 7?
Thanks

I don't know about the "best" game, but Riptide GP2 is fast and pretty.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I have a lot of games. It really just depends on what kind of games you like though, to say what would be best for you.
For racing games, Riptide GP2 is great ($2.99), Beach Buggy Blitz & Shine Runner (same dev as Riptide and free), Real Racing 3, Crazy Taxi, and Reckless Racing are all great games which play and look excellent in the N7 FHD. Hopefully Asphalt 7 and Need for Speed : Most Wanted will both become available on the N7 FHD before too much longer. The device just came out, and it takes the game devs a little while before adding a device to their compatibility list. Neither of those games were showing as compatible with my Asus Infinity for a while, even though the previous versions of both were. The Infinity was added to their compatibility list before too long, and both games are awesome on it!
For FPS/Call of Duty style games, Modern Combat 4 is absolutely incredible, Call of Duty : Black Ops Zombies, ShadowGun, and Dead Trigger are all awesome and a lot of fun!!!
Subway Surfers is also lots of fun! I actually prefer to play Subway Surfers on my N7 FHD instead of my Note 2, Evo LTE, or Asus Infinity! Just seems more fun on the 7" display than on any of other sizes! The N7 is truly an incredible device, and support for it will continue to grow larger over time! I'm looking forward to what the future holds for the N7 FHD!!
SwiftKey'ed from my White Sprint Note 2 using XDA Premium
I show off Samurai 2, cordy (1 and 2) Rayman, Crazy taxi, Zen Pinball, Or shadow gun. All look stunning.
beach buggy looks great but it lags when the resolution is maxed. Their is also slight stutters in riptide gp2 but rare. Anyone experienced this?

I see stuttering with Beach Buggy Blitz no matter the settings, see it in the original Riptide too. Oddly enough, never noticed it on the original Nexus 7.
It is a little disappointing. Thankfully, I am not a big gamer.

Nothing to be disappointed about. It is a me device and those games are not yet tweaked for it. That is partially why there is a new riptide.
I'm sure most of these games will play well on this device once adapted.

coming from an iphone, i want some games that are "new" or "unique" or that can show off what it can do. what i don't want is people saying like angry birds or words with friends or stuff like that. i am interested to see the possibilities of this bigger screen and faster hardware
shadowgun & need for speed hot pursuit have some of the best graphics out there

Modern Combat 3 ore Shadowgun are Great games
I'd definately recommend Riptide
+1 for Riptide ;D
Welcome to Android. I don't mean to burst your bubble but gaming experience isn't quite up to par as iOS yet. Its getting better with the release of games like Temple Run and some of the other 3D games mentioned above. Also better hardware won't do much. Games are far better optimized for iOS so its a smoother experience. The bigger screen is really the only advantage here.

If you really want to show off this phone, start looking into rooting and installing custom ROMS. You can boost performance greatly and can install Google Wallet and when you go to McDonalds you can pay with your phone and your iPhone buddies will be like "WTF!?!?!, daz sooo kewl!" Also, try installing a new launcher such as Apex Launcher or Nova Launcher. You will be able to show off how you can customize your device which is really the high point of Android.

I just downloaded Slice It, and it is AMAZING. Literally the first game I can spend an hour on and not get bored out of my mind.
Simple premise, beautiful execution, hundreds of levels, and its FREE.

How is that relevant? Sure, the iphone has MORE games, but you can't say that the experience is better or worse. I don't understand where people come up with this 'smoother experience' type language. Haven't played a game on the phone yet that lags or stutters. And I'll take an extra inch of screen space ANY day of the week.

What do you mean how is it relevant? iOS is better for gaming regardless of screen size. I'm not afraid to tell the truth and its apparent you've never used an iPhone for more than 10 minutes yet you're probably the one telling iOS fanboys that they've never used Android for more than 10 minutes. iOS is smoother on everything not because its better but because its coded using native code just like WP7. Games, Apps, Web are all much more consistent with the UI and achieve higher frame rates. Yeah, I don't get lag on my games either but that doesn't mean its just as smooth. There's no arguing that. Instead of trying to cast aside the problem, why don't you acknowledge it and perhaps help to make it better.

Cut the Rope, World of Goo and Cordy and Cordy Sky are also pretty nice.
OK this isn't new but I love it http://www.paulscode.com/forum/inde...2bc50b05ad89045ea55e&topic=96.msg2243#msg2243 you will find the games with a bit of Googling, I'm loving golden eye .... takes me back!!
Fun Games
I'm seeing lots of, "this game looks fancy", and not much "this game is great fun". So I'm rolling some out, these are all 2D, but damn fun!
Osmos
Droptrix
World of Goo
Refraction
Sprinkle
Swerve and Destroy
Canabalt
I highly recommend the following games, all look fantastic on the Galaxy Nexus epic screen!
Dead Space
Grand Theft Auto III
Great Little War Game
Fieldrunners HD
Reckless Racing
Spirit HD
Flick Golf
Game Dev Story
Pocket League Story
Jelly Defence
Pool Bar HD
Battleheart
Zen Bound 2
Tetris
Worms
Cut the Rope
Enjoy!
I am not a big fan of FPS games on handhelds, they usually have clumsy controls, the aiming is heavily assisted, etc.
Canabalt HD (IMHO one of the best side-scroller, might get multiplayer mode)
Radiant Defence (new tower defense game with a slight twist)
Robodefense (my favorite conventional tower defense game)
Sentinel (a graphically beefed up tower defense game)
Asphalt 6 (arcade racing, multiplayer is nice)
Flight Control, Angry Birds, Cut the Rope (if you are into ultra-casual gaming)
HomeRun Battle (nice baseball game, addictive multiplayer)
Obviously these are all personal preferrences
Temple Run! Most addictive!
You must try this.
Where's my water? It's good too although it's 2D.
Fruit Ninja - Puss in Boots!
It's 3D!
Graphics should be quite nice.
Fruit Ninja v1.74(or higher, or prepare for ugly graphics)!
Real Racing 2 (works on GN, isn't compatible in market tho - you need to fix that yourself)
Aftermath XHD
Anomaly HD
Dead Space
Modern Combat 3
Spectral Souls.

Hello all,
what games (or other apps) would you recommend to show off the superb graphics and processor capabilities of the Nexus 7?
Is there anything that is optimized for the Nexus 7 screen and processors?
Thank you all for your suggestions!
Dead Trigger works very well for me. Puddle also works for the Tegra 3 optimization
here's the Free version thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811437
i've posted there already.
here's additional ones that are not free:
Asphalt 7
Samurai II: Vengeance
Riptide GP
Sprinkle
ShadowGun THD
World of Goo
Jelly Defense
REAL RACING 2 currently 99c! Definitely great game.
Here's another,
Dark meadow, point and click adventure
Take up about 1.37GB though

I think Riptide GP, a game with Tegra enhancements, is impressive and is easy to hand over to anyone and have them get into it right away.
For apps, I guess Google Earth would knock Grandma's socks off .
Cs portable and whale trail. These are not tegra optimized, but there is no doubt that they look great. I am addicted to cs portable and would love to know what drugs the devs of whale trail where on when they created that gane. Must of been shrooms or sumin.

Some advice from me would be to stay away from gameloft for now. They have a funny way of creating games. Dont get me wrong there games are great but there just not that good on our nexus 7. If you are gong to buy a gameloft game make sure you read the description to see if its tegra 3 optimized or any mention of the nexus 7. If not then dont buy the game. The only acception i can give you is modern combat 3 and nova 3. Nova 3 is a bit so so, while mc3 plays great.
Dont get asphalt 7 until you see a update in the play store. Right now it is on version 1.0.0. I have it myself and it is not optimized the way it should be (ie: bad graphics and low frame rate).
Just be careful as to what you buy as the nexus is new device and you can very easily be disapointed as many games need to b updted.

About a month or so just before I got my Nexus.....I was watching a bunch of youtube vids of unboxing and reviews on the N7. I cam across one that was from a game developer I believe. There were demoing a cool Tegra 3 game that looked like a awesome version of mario cart. I do not see it on the play store yet at all.
Does anyone know or recall seeing this game ad or demo? I do not recall the name of the game.

Nope...thats not the one I saw. The one I saw as a demo on the N7 review in youtube was very close to a mario cart layout. You would think it was the new version as it played just like mario cart did......same kind of tracks and had the little boost things on the track and I think it had the heat seeking missiles like mario cart. The graphics were really nice and the game played well from the demo.

Beach Buggy Blitz isn't even really a racing game since you can't place against the other drivers. Its more of a Temple Run style game where you try to get as far as you can. Got boring for me after 5 runs. It does look pretty though.
I like Asphalt 7, especially now that it works while away from wifi after the last update.

It's because of the screen resolution. Are you on a ROM other than stock, if you are just turn on "full screen" to hide your navigation/status bar you can then download the data. If not you could always install it on a different device and transfer the data file to your N7 then launch the game with wifi turned off the first time.

regarding RR3 sadly so sadly i still dont have my device, but it appears to be running in 1080p? pretty soon with the invation of s600 1080p phones, devs will realize not run at native 1080p on wasted pixels (even current consoles struggle with that) and instead scale up from 720p like they do on the retina iPads and regain 50% performance
two more things to keep in my mind, there is a promised GPU drivers update on the way which might come along the 4.2.2 should result in better performance as well and finally HTC own CPU governor is a little battery friendly and can drop frames so if you are willing to root at a later point, a lot more speed can be extracted with custom gaming tweaks

Hi. I recently bought a Galaxy Nexus off of Ebay, because my old phone broke. It was only $50, and I saw it as a great deal.
I'm curious about how it will be able to handle today's games, specifically:
-Dead Trigger 2
-Asphalt 8: Airborne
-Modern Combat 4 or 5
-Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies
-Riptide GP2
-Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
-Mortal Kombat X
If you have any first-hand experiences or predictions on how smooth the games will run, please post them below. Thanks

Real Racing 3 running really nice and smooth on latest stable CM9 with cmplus kernel, and overclocked to 1420ghz runs even better, and dont heat up like CM11.
On CM11 , Real Racing 3 runs very laggy!
From that game list I tried Modern Combat 4 and 5 and Riptide GP 2. Modern Combat 4 runs at a decent framerate with occasionally hiccups but rarely and Riptide GP 2 runs smooth. I tried Modern Combat 5 but the graphics where somehow downgraded ans it looked a bit awful. It was running pretty good with hiccups for a bit and laggy in intensive scenes. Im running Lollipop 5.1 overclocked at 1.5Ghz but sometimes it overheats around the camera. Might be the software too but not sure. I think GNex is a great device even though its pretty old
