Mediaserver? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

My battery stats say that Mediaserver has kept my device awake for 2h 13m. Is this considered a wake lock? If so, how should I go about finding the app?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4

Google for mediaserver battery drain, known issue if I am not wrong. There are a few things you can do described in the appropriate threads.

I would believe it but I had like 1h 30m screen time, barely any of which was YouTube.

I think it can also be an issue with a messed up video file

Whats the best media player?

What is the best video and audio player for Nexus7? I have PowerAmp and Vplayer and they are good I'm just wondering whats new and better. Is there an awesome all in one player that plays all videos, movies, music and online video, audio streams and supports all video and audio formats?

XBMC is the daddy
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Either VLC or XBMC, there are beta versions for the N7 floating around which are relatively stable (though I've had problems with force closes in VLC). I don't think either is mature enough yet to replace Poweramp/VPlayer/DicePlayer, but once the bugs are ironed out and releases made official these will be the 'play-everything' apps.
I like Moboplayer, although I'm not sure if it's powerful enough for your needs, but it does everything I need it too.
I like MX.

I've found Diceplayer has the best HW playback. For example its the only one that will play FLV using hardware decoding while the others have to use software.

Youtube playing on background?

Hey everyone
i was wondering how to play youtube videos on the background so i can multitask. Right now if i play a video on youtube i have to stay on that video for it to be playing.
I wanna listen to music from youtube while im reading a book, since i dont ever download songs to my nex 7.
My friend can do it with his iphone 5, i saw him playing a song from youtube while his phone was locked.
Any ideas? Or am i missing an app or aomething?

I use the YouTube Player by FREEdi. Here's the link for the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsInR3LmNvbS5mcmVlZGkueW91dHViZS5wbGF5ZXIiXQ..
It works great! There's an iOS version too, just in case you have an iOS device.

You can install BSplayer that allow you to reduce vids in a small pop up who keeps playing while you're doing something else with your phone...
This is great info, be nice if Youtube natively supported playing in the background like Tunein Radio. I'll give this a go later on too.
Another option is StickIt:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sImNvbS5teWJveWZyaWVuZGlzYWdlZWsuc3RpY2tpdCJd
it gives you pop up windows you can resize and place over other apps or keep on your homescreen.

How are you enjoying XBMC on your Nexus 7?

I'm new to my Nexus 7 and new to XBMC.
How do you have XBMC set up? What are you using it for? Are you using it to stream from your desktop? Do you use it to watch movies stored locally on your Nexus? Music?
What are the must-have add-ons?
Thanks!
All of the above
Using mainly for streaming with navix add-on.

I use it like a media player to play movies which have been downloaded. It seems to be able to handle any format or codec easily. It also does tons of other things which I haven't got into yet.
Hope this helps.
I would recommend VLC over that.
I don't use it on my Nexus 7 but xbmc is used on my htpc. I stream everything (shows) through my htpc and I also have a server running 24/7 for my personal movie and music collection. I do run subsonic off of this server as well and my Nexus 7 streams from subsonic.
Check out ice films too! Navi-x and ice films is where it's at

Amazon Prime Video

There was a thread about this in the general section, but I can't find it now and its probably better suited here.
So has anyone been able to get it to play videos?
I sideloaded the app and it loads up fine, but when you click a movie it closes.

Yeah I'm aware of playing it with flash, but having the stand alone app would be a better option.

Amazon wouldn't let another 7" Android tablet cut into their Kindle sales ;P
I realize that, but this is android so there is generally always a work around.

I think there have been some changes in the way Android handles video playback. I side loaded MX Player and it doesn't support 4.3, HBO Go never loads

YouTube app

There is a buffering problem when watching videos. The video plays for about 8 secs and then buffers. This process repeats throughout the video. Any help? :/

I don't have any buffering problems with my N7 at all. Are you sure it's not your internet? Have u try running a speed test?

Maybe use the Clean Sweep app and SD Maid to clean things up. It can make a huge difference especially if your storage is getting full.
