[Q] No Signal After Flash (DETAILED QUESTION) - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Okay first of all I would just like to say I am new to this forum and I am still getting use to the rules of posting so if this is in the wrong section I do apologise and If you could be as kind to send me the link to where I should be that will be great.
Okay so flashed my Samsung Galaxy S3 (i9300) - International version, I understand there should be an International forum for posting. Hopefully I am in the right place. Since flashing everything was fine until I tried a few newer versions of the rom and my signal went to nothing.
The Rom I was using was CM 10.1 Nightly, since then I have tried a number of different Roms and Modems flashed via Odin (Including stock roms) with no luck. After researching I come to notice a few things including my IMEI number is wrong, it is a 16 digit string.
After doing further research on the forums I have come to understand certain firmware can alter the file type of the EFS Folder?? In response only MG4 Type roms and modems can read the EFS and restore the IMEI number? Perhaps I have being misinformed.
On the off chance that this could restore my signal I have download a MG4 Stock rom and modem I am ready to flash, But this time I shall learn from my mistakes and wait until I get some answers before digging myself an even greater hole.
If there is an easier way please help
I know this was my own fault for rushing into things, I have learnt my lesson!
Thanks Guys

Hey man last thread Doc told you to ask in the international Galaxy S3 thread. You would get the most help there.

Ask here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1563

Also, if you're gonna flash CyanogenMod 4.3 this is it I believe for your device. Best of luck.

Indeed he did, and once again I apologise thank you for the link, if I run into anymore trouble I will post to the correct section. I am glad to inform you I have solved the issue. It turns out I installed a bad modem which actually changes the file type of type of the efs folder. Causing roms to not reading it properly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2377731
I fixed the issue by installing a stock firmware found on this post...
http://50.23.216.69-static.reverse.softlayer.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
This firmware carries a modem file which can read the modified efs folder, and in result restoring my IMEI Number and signal even after I flashed the rom to CM 10.1.
I hope some one else can stumble on to this and it helps them, please be aware though I have an intervention Galaxy s3 and this may not work in the states or other parts of the world.
Once again really sorry about posting in the wrong forums, i will try not let it happen again in the future!

Telus Root? Custom ROM?

So Im looking into this rooting and custom firmware/ROM deal, and came across a couple questions id like answered if possible.
I'm on Telus, in Canada, and my baseband on my GS3 is I747MVLDLK4. Every thread i see about custom roms and rooting refers to a different baseband, and my question is, what baseband ROMs will work with mine? Or is it even safe to flash this phone with a custom ROM at all?
Ive seen different opinions in other threads and everything seems to conflict, so i need a definite answer as I'd love to get into this whole community and start doing awesome things with my S3, but i don't want to go through a period of not being able to use my phone because i flashed the wrong firmware.
THanks

Baseband is the modem package with the phone. There is actually a newer version released. I'm on telus and have flashed almost everything on these boards. If you stay in these threads and it says AT&T you can flash it on our phones
Lots of helpful guides on here to get you started.

Thanks a ton, I've been reading up on it lots lol hopefully i can get it done tonight! Newer version of the baseband u say? How would i get ahold of that? When i try to update it tells me everything is already up to date
Don't confuse baseband with a operating system update. There isn't a need to update the baseband. It's just if you are having reception issues.

All good and helpful points but I will clarify further just so nothing gets misunderstood.
Baseband = modem. OP needs to flash only Telus modems and not ATT ones. Specifically only use the I747M modems. If you flash the wrong modem you may screw up your device. Tread carefully here.
When KorGuy talks about flashing anything on these boards he is referring to ROMs only. ROMs almost never include a modem in the package so there is no need to worry.
Check out the threads by Tony Stark for good answers.
^ I hope all that makes sense.

[Q] Help with flashing modem on att note 2

Last month I rooted my att note 2 and installed Twrp and the jedi X 13 rom. I noticed today that my wife's note 2 on the stock att rom has much faster data speeds. So I decided to check the baseband version and found she was on mca4 while I'm still on ucalk7. I'm almost positive that this is the reason my data speeds are slower but would like to know for sure. And if so, can I just flash the modem and ril file without touching the custom rom? And also can you point me to the proper files to flash?
Thanks,
Wade

Solved
1st, I wanna thank the mod for moving this to the right place. I had a brain fart yesterday and posted it in the Sprint forums. So thank you!!
2nd, I solved the problem with my data speeds and it had nothing to do with the modem. At&t had my phone identified on their network as a iphone 3gs somehow, so I was never on the LTE network and therefore wasn't getting the LTE data speeds.
However, through troubleshooting this I was able to find the information needed to update my baseband to the newest one without any problems and can confirm the Jedi X 13 rom works great on an LTE network in case anyone was wondering.
I love this forum and have learned a lot through reading and wanna thank everyone for all the good work!!
Thanks,
Wade
Great job Wade!

Hi guys,
I tried to figure this all out. I am on a Samsung Note 3 - i317 - Android 4.1.2 - UCAMC3.
I am in Germany from time to time and need to unlock it. I actually talked to AT&T many times, but those morons are not able to unlock it (seriously!!)! The last person I talked to said: "Why don't you just unlock it yourself, there is plenty of help on the internet". So I take that as a permission to root and flash.
However, I rooted it yesterday and I read that to unlock it I need the J3 modem. Now my question is, can I just flash the J3 modem, unlock it and then flash back to UCAM3 / do the latest OTA update afterwards? I have TWRP on the phone.
Is there anything else I need to watch out for? Please give me hints if I am on the right track.
Thanks guys!!
[EDIT] OK, so I just did it! I flashed the J2 Modem and tried the unlock. It worked! Just flashed back my CAMC3 Modem and everything is great. Thanks to those who work hard on getting all this stuff lined up for us dummies!!!
BTW your not on a note 3 lol

Your rooted phone won't get stock updates.
Hi guys,
HAHA ... yeah, of course I meant Note2 ... :silly:
Thanks for the hint that it won't get stock updates. I actually just found that out because I tried to install the OTA update.
So one last question for now:
I just downloaded the newest H3 modem and flashed it with TWRP. My system info now shows:
Baseband version: I317UCAMH3
Build number JZO54K.I317UCAMC3
Is it normal that build and baseband differ? I saw a screenshot somewhere else and the build had the CAMH3 version as well. Did I do something wrong or is that normal?
Thanks guys for all your help!! :good:
Your fine. Build is rom related not modem man.
Sent from my Note 2 using Tapatalk 4
Baseband and firmware generally read the same. ..unless you flash a different setup. ..
Modem or firmware separately from one another. .
The device won't care unless they are not compatible code. ..
Simply verify the files to make sure they are for this device and your good. ..
And of course you should always read the instructions for the files just in case the developer requirements changed for some reason. ..g

you re fine! Baseband has nothign to do with your build number. Build number generally means what rom base you are on. you re good to go. I think everyone is rocking the H3 modem right now and speeds vary depending where you are geographically but the WIFI data speeds are a little faster.
Thanks guys for the feedback!!
It's working great. Really seems to be much faster on WIFI. I didn't do speedtests, but it just feels faster.

[Q] Can someone help me fix my S3?

This was my second time rooting and installing a ROM on my phone. Whatever I had used originally seemed a bit buggy so I went back to stock. However, this time I wanted to try PACMAN and after installing it I found that I couldn't send picture messages and I no longer had access to 4G data speeds. I didn't know what to do, searched the web for a few days looking for ideas and saw some people saying that maybe I should change my ROM, so I did. I tried Cyanogen Mod 10.1 (I think) and then LiquidSmooth 2.9 (where I am now). None of the changes made anything work. So, now I've seen someone talk about radios, I don't quite understand what they are saying but from what I've gathered there could be a different radio for me to download. If that's the case, I'm not sure how to do it. Also, I was told to try and put the stock software back on the phone and I can't figure out how to do that again either. I probably dug a little too deep being such a noob but I wanted to learn. If anybody could help I'd be greatly appreciative.
Also, if there is any other information you need please let me know. I just copied everything I could find under "About Phone"
Take out battery and reply with the model number of the phone.

[Q] Roms for T999L T-Mobile

Im new to this part of XDA, I just recently purchased a Galaxy S3 T999L.
Purchasing this phone, I had no idea there was a non LTE Model which leads me in a bit of confusion when looking for a custom Rom
Im no rookie when it comes to flashing. If you look Below in my sig you can see the devices I currently have and have flashed different roms many times in the past. My question is what ROMs will work with my T999L? Ive looked and to my confusion have seen more for the T999 than anything since its been around much longer.. I've been looking and the forum here is a bit fragmented and its hard to see which ROM will go to which device. Please forgive me for my ignorance, Im just trying to play catch up, and perhaps contribute in the future in some way.
Edit: Im more familiar with flashing Tablets than phones, I dont have much experience with flashing radios and other phone related stuff...Is there a Difference with T999 and T999L other than the Radio?
edit 2: No comments? I guess either i said the wrong thing, or I posted in the wrong forum..
Thank you in advance
The t-999 ROMs will work with your t-999l, except the 4.3 touchwiz ROMs for the moment. 4.3 aosp/cm/aokp is fine.. There's really not much difference between the two, except the t-999l was updated to support lte.. Do not flash a t-999 modem to your t-999l, it won't brick but it won't pick up service at all. I suggest looking at the t-999l and t-999n q&a thread for further info

Thanks for your input
Don't mean to hi-jack this thread but it kind of pertains the the question. I have the T999L as well. I've read Doc's informational thread about the T999L and T999N.
In terms of this part:
"ONLY flash T999L firmware to a T999L and T999N firmware to a T999N!!!!
If it does not match your model EXACTLY, it will almost certainly brick your device!!!"
I keep reading I can safely flash T999 roms, kernels, etc. But it's the firmware process that confuses me. Should I only stick to 4.1.2 roms (can I even flash Jamison's 4.1.1 rom for example), or can I flash a 4.3 TW rom in the future, assuming the leaked builds get LTE support when the official update comes out?
Thanks in advance.

If that's true then how come the T999L wasn't updated to 4.3 alongside the T999? The 4.1.2 software wasn't even the same. No multi-window, no Note 2 photo gallery, still rockin the old "My Files" app on the T999L 4.1.2 software.....At first I thought it was just the "LTE Radio" difference but I guess there's more to it seeing the differences in software.

Firmware refers to the files used in Odin, so for those, make sure you use the ones for your device only. You can flash any ROM, even 4.1.1 I believe.. And yes once there's a leaked 4.3 firmware for the t999l you should be able to just flash the modem and then flash a 4.3 tw ROM, based on what we experienced with the t999

Thanks a lot for this. Been bugging me for a while now. I'll probably take the plunge soon and use "The Recovery Way." Rooted my first S3 using motochopper back in June or July when I first got it, but problems arose and exchanged it at Costco (just got it and WiFi wouldn't connect after a factory reset). Been scared since lol. Also scared me that I wouldn't receive official updates anymore as it said it was modified, but that doesn't bug me anymore reading all the complaints about the whole no turning back.
Thanks again!
I'm looking into flashing a custom ROM onto my T999L for the first time as well...have any of you guys taken the plunge yet, and have any feedback on specific ROMS? I think I will try with AOKP

Modem Problem?

Hi all!
Forgive me as I am new to the Galaxy s3 here. I researched as much as possible but could not find any info (at least none I comprehend) on my issue. I own a T999L Galaxy s3 and just flashed Red Dragon to my phone. Flashed clean without issues using CWM and everything works great. My only issue is, I have no data, only mobile network and wifi. I've read several things about not going to a previous modem so I'm scared to do so without advice first. I am currently on Baseband Version: T999LUVUBNC1 however, my build number is KOT49H.I747UCUFNE4, is this the issue. I flashed the T999LUVUBNC1 tar to obtain root originally. Any help is appreciated!

Pretty sure this is the Q&A section for the T999 editions of the S3's am I wrong? Regardless, the issue was a tower in my area, not the phone.
