Hello,
A couple of days ago I was out in the rain and my phone got a little wet. I checked the water damage indicators on the battery and underneath the battery but they didn't change colors and the phone was functioning fine so I thought I'd be okay.
Well, that morning I woke up to my phone constantly rebooting. I took out the battery and put the phone in some rice hoping it wouldn't be too late. I waited about 2 days and took it out, opened up the phone to look for some corrosion. I didn't see anything, but it would have to very obvious in order for me to recognize it...Here's a picture of the inside (it might be hard to see because of the flash, but the bottom water damage indicator close to the USB port turned pink):
[removed because I can't post outside links apparently]
I plugged the phone back in but it would not come on or display anything.
I'm not sure what my next step should be. Should I try replacing the charging port? Or is this phone most likely shot?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Well I cleaned the phone and can get the charging indicator to come up when it's plugged in..however, it doesn't seem to be charging. I hold the power button in and it won't turn on. I hold the power button and volume up button in and it won't turn on. I took out the battery and left it plugged in and the screen doesn't display anything.
Anyone know what else I can try?
Thanks
It's kind of tough to say for sure which component or components failed.... I mean, if it were me I'd shell out for a new phone, be it a GalNex or a newer phone.
If the battery isn't charging but the phone responds to a charger being plugged in....and it rebooted a lot when it did work... It's probably the main board...

I actually got it to boot up now. It just keeps rebooting though. I did a factory restore through bootloader mode but it still isn't working. I can't get through the initial setup without the phone rebooting..

What did you do before it happened? Flash twrp?
I was browsing web, then put it on the charger. Happened as soon as I put on charger, have had twrp for at least a month. I have feeling its a hardware issue, because I was able to boot once restore a back up and use again, until it happened again, have been unable to boot since the second occurance.

My old SE X10 did the same.
Turn your phone off. Get the battery out and put the phone and the battery in the fridge (not in the icebox).
Wait 10 min.
Test it again. If the Phone works a few hours (or minutes), so you have certainly a hardware defect.
You can test some "stresstest" apps.

I high moisture environment isn't recommended for a lithium-ion battery that goes into a 350 dollar piece of electronics. If you think its the battery, get a different one. If it's overheating, check the temperature and replace the unit.
Also check the micro-usb connection for debris. This has happened to me several times and its always some kind of crap in the connector. I have gotten it out with compressed air a couple times but once I had to use a toothpick to dislodge something that was particularly stubborn (and apparently conductive!).
You probably have a bad power button. Seen this a lot lately

For testing odin to stock and reroot, see if your problem persists. In the event it does just warranty exchange it. Saves a lot of hassle plus if its hardware they should grant you the warranty without any hassle. On another note if its the battery giving you issue, Ebay has them for sale for a very decent price.

^^^^ +1 I would check into what this guys has just mentioned and I say that because this is not the first thread of its kind that I have seen in here and the results of those threads were the people had a bad power button. May or may not be your issue

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769183

There were more but I figure if you take some time and read these threads maybe you would find a solution... Got to remember 99% of the problems we have we are usually not the first to have it..
Thanks guys, warranty replacement on the way, don't think its battery because plugged in charger wo batt and it vibrates, I only worry bc if you attempt to boot into recovery twrp flash screen shows for less than a second, I know I voided warranty but has got to be hw issue not caused by me, fingers crossed that samsung aknowledges that!

Same thing was happening to me. I found that i could only get it to boot up when it was connected to my computer via usb and had the battery installed. I was on ICS 4.0.4 and not rooted. As soon as i got it to boot up, i did a factory reset, and everything is working perfect now.
My wife is on vacation driving down to MS (from WV) and her phone died.
She was talking on it and co-pilot was running and then the phone shut off.
She couldn't reboot it, it would boot, then try and reboot and make a vibrate pattern like "beeeeeeppp beep beep" repeatedly and never boot. I told her (on the phone) that it might be that her battery was just dead.
So i had her turn the phone off and then put it on the charger.
Well, it's 10 hours later on a charge and the same thing is happening. She can't boot, she can't get into recovery, when she does the 3 finger salute the same thing happens....the vibration pattern.
She's been running aristodemos without problems up until now.
What do you think could be the problem? Battery? Charging port dead?
She said she's going to find an AT&T store while she's down there and tell them that her phone won't charge...could they charge her battery for her.
What do you think? Should we wait until she's back here and just put my battery in the phone? I ask because I don't want them to figure out that she's rooted and not help her.

Sounds like what happened to my cousin's Note. I tried to root it and it did 3 beeps and boot loop. It might need recovery. If a nandroid is available on her phone then she needs to restore it if possible. If not, recovery via Kies is the next option. Unfortunately, Kies wipes everything.

Sorry, I missed that somehow. A new battery might be worth a shot. Try yours when she gets back. AT&T will get another battery and see if it works.

I don't think so...I'm not sure why but when she tries, nothing happens. I'm coaching her remotely so It could be that she's just not doing it right or that the battery won't even get her to that point....i'm not sure why but at this point, she can't.
If she could...we'd be in good shape, I'd have her wipe the phone and start over.
I'm not sure whether I should tell her to hold off until she gets home to try my battery or go to the ATT store...I'd hate for them to put a new battery in and have it do something that shows that it's running a leaked rom and rooted....though I'm not sure what they'd do.
Would they just tell her to go away or would they note it on the account like we were somehow not entitled to warranty assistance even if we put it back to stock?

They might report it, but when I had a hardbrick on my Atrix, I took it there. They didn't report it. If all else fails, report it lost and get another one. The best way to know is wait for her to get back.

It turns on but tries to boot....black screen and vibrations is all that happens. When that has happened to my phone I just recovered it so I'm not sure why hers isn't recoverable...operator error or it's just bricked.
I guess I'll just tell her to wait until she gets back unless someone has a better idea.

If it turns on even for a second there might be a good chance to save it. Best thing to do is to wait. You can probably recover it using odin. My cousin's Note did that too, but he got lucky. I managed to fix it using Kies. I hope it works out.

She was using Co-Pilot and talking on the phone with the phone plugged into the charging jack in the car. It wasn't charging fast enough to keep up with usage, so it went dead dead dead.
So after she hooked it up to the charger...it still didnt' charge fast enough to get enough charge in the phone to enter recovery.
She got to the motel, plugged it in and left it overnight. Rebooted into recovery this morning and did a factory wipe and all is well.
Thanks for the help guys.

Alright guys so normally i'm pretty skilled in getting things to operate perfectly and have always been good at flashing roms but I have a massive issue with my Galaxy Note 2. The phone has NOT been flashed yet. I bought it new and for whatever reason the other night i plugged my phone in before i went to bed as usual. I woke up the next morning and the phone was not charging nor did it show it was plugged in/charged to 100%. It had about 87% battery life so it obviously did charge through the night to some degree. I pulled out the battery, put it back in and the phone booted up all by itself without me even touching the power button! It stays on the battery icon charging screen for about 5 seconds then reboots itself constantly. If you try to hold down the power button it will not boot up. I can get it into Download Mode as well as Recovery mode but none of which have helped it boot up. I am running on the most recent 4.1.2 firmware as well FYI. If you have any ideas please feel free to throw them my way. I don't really understand how this could have happened.. Thanks in advance

I think theres a way to fully format the internal memory before flashing the rom through odin. I dont know much about odin except the flashing bit and rooting. You should check on that.
My guess is that without formatting the phone youre only upgrading the os leaving corrupt files present in the phone that causeing the start up issue.

I'll look into the reformatting.. The weird thing is that last night after letting it sit for like 8+ hours i somehow got it to boot up after putting the battery back in and powering it on really fast the first try. However, now when i plug in the charger it wont recognize the charger being plugged in! This phone is like possessed. When it wont boot up at all and stays on that charging icon screen and then i plug it in, it says it charging and the icon turns green. This makes less than zero sense..
Turn it off. Hold volume up plus home button plus power. Now you're in recovery mode. Select wipe and restore. It should work after, I had the same issue one.

Basically i was able to fix the problem by fiddling with the charging port on the phone. I took a tac and cleaned out the inside what seemed like was junk/loose stuff inside of it behind the gold connectors and further in towards the inside of the phones port. I put the battery in and it only booted up when i turned the phone on and it recognizes the phone being plugged in every time i've tried to make it crap out. Everytime i restart the phone it boots up like it should no problem. Seems as though that was the problem! Thanks again for the help
So I replacef the LCD screen on my p930. re assembled everything and it does not turn on. i don't feel that click when i hold the power button, If i plug the phone into a AC charger and hold the power button i get 3 blinking keys on the phone.I can't even get the phone to vibrate like when it normally powers on. Anyone have any ideas of what this could be?
Try to open it up again and double check your work, Something might have come loose.
Before you changed the screen was it working properly? Why did the screen break? Was it dropped?
The battery is beyond dead. Let the phone charge for a day, if it hasn't come on by then look at all connections u touched. Last case is try another battery you know works.

This. Try this before you go tearing your phone all apart just to find that everything is put together correctly.
Plug it in and leave it plugged in for 10-15 at the minimum before you try using it. If the phone shuts itself down due to the battery running completely down, it will be completely unresponsive to anything unless plugged in; at which point it will only flash the bottom keys when you try to turn it on. Once it gets a little bit of charge to it, it should boot right up.
I just loaded a file on my LGOG then I turned it off. It had 80% battery. Now it wont boot. It wont even go to recovery. I cant get into twrp or do anything. When I power it on the LG logo displays then the screen goes black. I tried powering it back off and waiting a few minutes before trying again but nothing is happening. What should I do? I really don't want to take it back because I can't remember if I still have a warranty and it has been voided anyways. I got the phone i January. I was running CM10.1 and I just loaded a large file into the root of the storage and turned the phone off.

The exact same thing happened to me just the other day. I was flipping. I gave up and decided to go into town to file for a replacement. So I got ready. took a shower and all that fum stuff and as a last resort I tried again. And nothing. So I plugged it in. It finally went to the charge screen. Powered it on from there and it actually turned on!! I was so happy! But when it booted back up it only had 1% charge. But when it ****ed up on me it had at least 50%.. After I charged all the way to 100% then rebooted to recovery it told me it had only 40%.. Something messed up somewhere. Wasn't reading battery stats right.. Wiped battery stats and all was good...
Anyway. Wait awhile for you phone to settle. Then try plugging it in to get a charge. Then turn it on. Worked for me. But was completely random. I tried that several times before my shower and it wouldnt charge when I plugged in. Just went to the black screen after the logo.

I think what's happening is the phone thinks its dead so of course it won't boot past the logo. That's what it actually does when its actually dead. Just flashes the logo. And it stays black because it does actually have a charge. Just had to wait for my phone (while completely off) to try again. But could only get it to come on while on the charger

Should I turn it on and let the battery die out completely or should I let it sit for a couple of hours and try again? I tried charging it but the screen was still black. I tried to plug it into my computer but it didn't detect it. I'll leave it for now and try charging it later. It shouldn't be out of battery since i barely used my phone today.
I don't know what the hell happened but it booted this time. I can get to recovery and fastboot. Thanks for showing concern for me though. I checked out teeny bin and i will use that next time something else happens.
Thank You for your responses

Now i can test my new sense port. That was the reason I needed to go to recovery.
Yea same thing with mine. Completely random right lol

It just happened again. Same thing. Maybe it is because I turn my phone off too soon after a file transfer. This never used to happen. It just started today. I let my phone sit for 20 min then everything went ok. This is really weird.

It might be a faulty battery or connection. When boot back up is the charge low? Not in recovery but in the ROM.
Mine happened while I was trying to do a backup in recovery. Too many variables lol
