How many dead pixels do you have? Did you return it or live with it?
I have a single dead pixel which isn't that noticible, I feel it unlikely that I will get a perfect display if I return it. I think it's likely that most displays have at least 1 dead pixel, but perhaps this poll can answer that.
Edit: So 2 months later, i've replaced the Nexus 5 times, and all have had dead pixels. I wish I had kept the first one.
I'm surprised there are so many with zero dead pixels. Mine is completely unnoticeable unless I look for it at less than 6 inches from the screen. In fact I can't find it right now. At this PPI the pixels are so tiny.
3, returned.. 0 now that I know of, better stay that way

1.
Tried to exchange to staples but they didn't have any 32 GB in stock. Tried to order online for me but online was out of stock.
So I'm stuck with this one for 11 more days lol
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
1 dead pixel that took me two days to find. Not noticeable unless it is on full brightness on a completely black screen in a dark room, so never.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Some good statistics here. I think I will take a chance for a perfect display and return this to Staples.
None that I know of. No bleed either.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Had 3. None after replacement.
I have one about 4cm in from the top left hand 2cm down from the top on the upper left hand side that is visible except on red. So this basically means unless the screen is black or red you see the pixel every time, clear as day.
It is really driving me nuts so has anyone had any experience with returning devices with Google over a single dead pixel out of the box?
Zero. I have two in the house and both are flawless.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Zero for me as well.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Will the pixel be white or black? I either have a dead pixel or dust under the screen.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The one I got today has one dead pixel. It is very hard to find. I don't think I'm going to replace it though because the screen has very minimal backlight bleed. That and I also got a 32 gb one with a2 year damage warranty for under $300, so I can't complain
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
One, but it's easily ignored. I love my N7 so far.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Minus 5 ?
Ø dead pixels
Ø dust
2+light bleed
Sent from my Nexus 7
0 on my first display but had a bad OTG issue. Returned that one and got one that has 1 dead pixel. It's by the clock in landscape so I basically never see it. I'm keeping my N7...love it!

Has anyone recently gotten a new Nexus without the problems with the screen such as the purple tint, banding, inaccurate colors and grainy whites? I just got an S3 and the screen is definitely better than that of my old Nexus but I'm thinking of going back to the Nexus but I prefer the phone with a better screen lol.

People who just got their Nexus immediately after the ban have been receiving theirs today and all of them had great screens, based on their feedback on the thread

My replacement phone from January is perfect. I am aware thats the luck of the draw though, considering my wife's phone is definitely NOT perfect.
My replacement Nexus (2 weeks old) is perfect. I can't believe I went that long with a bad nexus.

Lol funny guy
So basically the screens they are using in the recent Nexus phones are better? No purple tint? Banding? Grainy whites on low brightness?

Apparently if you get one with a serial number of C5 or higher there is a very good chance you will get one with a goof screen.

I just got mine yesterday and I have mad ghosting (usually from the keyboard). I was at the at&t store yesterday and the screen in the display GS3 looked nicer. I don't have any banding issues. The color temperature is closer to that of my Lumia 800 (slightly yellow whites, very vibrant blues) than my finally retired Nexus One (first gen AMOLED, very high K whites, almost blue, washed out reds).
Where can I check the serial number?

Hard to draw a conclusion
We have 4 Gnexes, and two of them have gone back to Samsung for new screens, so I guess we've had 6 screens all told. I don't think I can draw a conclusion based on build date...
My son has the oldest of the 4, and his screen is nice.
Mine is the next oldest, and the screen was good from day-1, and the newly installed (dropped it) screen is really good.
My daughter's is 2nd newest, and her screen is OK, but not as good as mine. Hers got a new screen before my wife got her phone, and that one is OK, too.
My wife's phone is the newest (march or April?) (with the exception of my replaced screen), and has looked dreadful the whole time, but she doesn't seem to mind it.
My phone is 3 weeks old now. I have no 'grainy' things going on. I do have banding with the color 'grey'. I tested it with the app called 'LCD TEST' free from Google Play. I tested every color and I only got banding with the color 'grey'. The rest looks ridicilously good!
I do have to say that my Old Omnia II with an Amoled screen was good. I could see the pixels easily. (3.7", 800x480)
I can also see the pixels on my Galaxy NEXUS with ease. But these pixels are way smaller but still noticeable. Because of that the screen does not look as sharp as I thought it'd be. But still it looks WAY better than my Omnia II's Amoled screen. Also blows the Galaxy S' screen away (which I've compared my Galaxy NEXUS to)
So it seems the screens issues are really just a hit and miss. I wish they would use the same screen tech they use in the S3 :/ I'm missing jelly bean but I don't want to go from a better screen to one with problems ...decisions decisions lol

I received my Nexus on July 6th from the playstore. The screen looks fantastic to me. Blacks are black, as for whites I'm not sure what grainy is really supposed to mean. I don't think there's any graininess.
Just like the title says. What are some things that are commonly wrong with the replacements?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Power button can become worn down rather quick, make sure if "clicks" and feels like the volume rocker.
Go into settings so you have a gray background then pull down the notification pane. Check for excessive purple on the gray colors.
Tapatalk'n on the Galaxy Nexus
I got a CLN replacement and minus a little purple tint which I can live with the device is flawless. The 4G radios have not locked up once in the one week I have had it! Good luck on yours.....
Get one of those dead pixel checking apps or use a all white screen and check for dead or stuck pixels.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I wouldn't check for dead pixels unless you're guaranteed 0 dead pixel.
Normally you wouldn't notice a few dead spots on the screen, but once you know where they are, they will become very noticeable.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I had a stuck blue pixel on my first replacement right in the upper center of the display. It was instantly visible on a white background.

What???? The water indicators have little red X's on them, which smear when they contact water or high moisture. What would white out do?
Edit: and for future reference, is there a place to purchase these stickers? I've read a few other products that had their water indicators tripped for no apparent reason (MacBooks... but I don't own one!)
Edit 2: there are a bunch of housings on eBay that come with the water indicators. Perhaps you could try those if you don't mind dis/re-assembling. BTW, are there any other warranty indicators on this phone besides the water stickers?

No, but they replaced mine free of charge because of ghosting.

almost all AMOLED panels have burn-in issue. its a big issue here in Korea.
There definetively are som issues with the screen. After making my GN 'fullscreen' I noticed the black area where the softkeys used to be is having a more bluish hue. I believe this is to the rest of the screen aging differently because of the screentype AMOLED (super). Taking this into account it wouldnt surprise me if the screen is getting burnins etc
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
All this hassle is probably not worth it for me... I am out of contract and trying to figure out which new phone to buy. The note 2 or the nexus 4. I am planning on using my old nexus as a dedicated music player and GPS for my car though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
The only burn in I have is from my nav bar, and statues bar, can't do much about those!
I have status bar burn in as well. Hard to see unless the screen is fully black.
I don't know if mine is defective or not. But the color isn't pure white from what I see on the nexus 4 in videos. I think it should be the same right?
Its more of a yellowish tint?
There is no spec on the color of the light, and what the nexus 4 does is irrelevant. If it lights up at the right time it is fine.

People are honestly finding every last thing that they can to complain about this tablet. Did you buy the tablet to look at the notification light, or to actually use the tablet?

I kinda agree with what you say, except that when you buy something "expensive", your expectations are high and you want something perfect (i don't own the nexus 7 so i don't know how should it be) but if the led isn't showing the right color, it's something to care about, though it's a small defect..
I also see what you're saying, but like the poster above me said, there is no specification on the notification light, so there isn't much you can do. Some people have notification LEDs that don't even work apparently. Since the reality is that this generation seems to be having many build quality issues, it doesn't seem like it's worth taking the chance to return it, even though OP probably can't over this issue anyway.

Mine is more eggshell white but remember its only a ~$200 tablet and LG probably uses different LEDs that may be tuned to a more brilliant white
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
It's funny I didn't even know I had a notification light until one day I left my tablet sitting there and got a notification while the screen was off. So I believe it only works when when screen is off it's the only time I've seen it go off.... It's on the bottom of the screen right under the button bar (back, home, and recents button). I have been flashing ROMs, kernels, modifying my system to my liking, and trying different things so I never even noticed the light lol.

I just realized that my Nexus 7 has a small but noticeable purple spot on the screen, much more appearant on a black background. It wasn't there last time I used it, I plugged it in to charge it than came to use it hours later to see a purple spot.
I play a lot of Order & Chaos online, could the spot be from prolonged finger use? If I need to return it I'll have to relock the bootloader and flash to stock right?
Thanks,
Branden
