[Q] One X randomly simulating power button press. - HTC One X

My One X seems to simulate the press of the power button at random, regardless of rom, it also wakes for some reason when I touch the screen sometimes.
The power button press simulation is completely random, but usually occurs in bursts, sometimes in concentrated presses which can turn off the phone, has anyone ever had this problem, and what are the steps I should take to fix it?

It occurs regardless of ROM, I've got Serenity 4.75 installed atm, but it did it on Android Revolution which the previous owner (got it from ebay) had. it may be a hardware issue, and a quite uncommon one, the device works perfectly otherwise.
It seems to have been repaired before, which may be something to do with this.
Edit: I've got the same ROM and kernel on my white One X with a cracked screen and don't have the same issue.

Already tried this, it didn't have any effect, I think it's something to do with the internal button that the plastic thing we call a button presses down on.
I'd say an electrical current that runs through the replaced screen manages to somehow find where the power button-related electronics are and somehow activates it, otherwise I don't know why touching the screen can wake up the device when it's sleeping, doesn't happen on the other One X with same ROM/Kernel and settings.

Desire back buttom

My Desire from today has had a faulty back button key.
Since today sometimes you gotta press back a 2 or 3 times before it responds.
Anyone else have this happen?
Mine does this too. Always has since day one, kind of annoying but for what its worth I will just put up with it.

Yes suffering the same for about 2 days know.
Me too but not from the day i bought it. It started to happen after a month or so

Same here! Started after a couple of months and Froyo didn't change anything either. At the moment I can live with it. Just hope it doesn't get worse!
i have faulty MENU button. not from begining, i'd say that since froyo update.
basically it works but sometimes nothing happens when i press it. i noticed that it doesn't work when pressed not in the middle of it.
but not always. sometimes it's okey to press it not in the middle and it works.
ometimes when i press it, and nothing happens, and then i press it again the context menu appears instantly on the screen, like it was there already, and starts to disapear slowly. i'm talking about context menu i get on the main screen, the menu with all apps, scenes, add to home, ... options.
hard to tell if it's hw malfunction or maybe some sort of software bug.
How weird! My back button started playing up today and the menu button about a week ago.
I was looking at these forums to check the backup/hard reset procedure, as I wonder whether it's a software problem rather than a hardware fault.
I got insurance so may get it replaced but I dont wanna end up with a SLCD version

I don't believe that it's froyo related as I'm with T-Mobile (stock) so still on 2.1
Edit - My Menu button behaviour is exactly the same, pointing to a software issue.

I understand what you are saying, but I find it hard to believe that we all suffer the same hardware fault at the same time with the same symptoms! Then again, if we all have one of the first batch of Desires, it is possible.

I once had this too.
After I updated to FroYo, it works flawless. But that could only be a coincident.
one person has this issue on stock 2.1 and others on 2.2 so its a varied issue.
My phone was part of the first batch so those with issues should state if it was first batch or not.

Mine was first batch, the fault seems to intermittent.
My back button was playing up yesterday also.
Seems fine today though??
Maybe this is the reason why the producers seem to prefer touch sensitive buttons at the upcoming models. Harder to get faulty buttons from the product line.

there were alot of people who hated the touch buttons on the N1 and prefer the hardware buttons on Desire.
Just done a hard reset - the first since I've had the phone. It appears much better, but I'll only know for sure once I've used it for 24 hours. Have only loaded one application (Linda file manager) in case the issue stems from an app update.
I think I'd prefer touch buttons.
I've got a de-branded Orange Desire running Froyo and I've got the same fault developing with my back button. If it is definitely hardware then these kind of things can only get worse, to the point where it stops working completely.
This started on mine and few days ago. I think its an app, probably an update that is doing it. That's why a factory reset currently it. Any thoughts?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
This has absolutely nothing to do with software and it's a hardware semi-fault.
Boot into recovery and select hardware key test, press the button in question many times, you still see sometimes it misses, sometimes it doubles.
I've started experiencing it with the menu button after two months I bought it, now it happens with home too, and it's getting worse. You really have to press hard to have the long press functionality.
Back button is only sporadically doing it, far more the search button.
I'm planning to ask for a warranty repair, but after having had in my hand an slcd one I'm having second thoughts.
If anyone has it back from repair, it would be nice to know what they have done and if the chassis was replaced.

Desire HD Problem

Hey guys,
Was just looking through the market and saw an animations app, so i downloaded it, installed as normal, accepted the superuser request and chose what animation i wanted, (I chose blur if it makes any difference). It then requested a reboot, so i rebooted, but now nothing happens to my phone, It is just like the phone is powered off, nothing comes up on the screen. Ive tried booting normally and booting into recovery but nothing
Any ideas?
I'm using Leedroid ROM and Kernel, both on the latest versions.
Thanks in advance.
So just to be sure, you held volume down and pressed the power button simultaneously and after a few seconds nothing happened though you should see at least the HTC logo for a moment.
Did you also try to get the battery out and back in?
Also try plugging the power cable in and load the phone - this starts CWM for me every time (running on Leedroid too).

Yes tried everything there, its almost as if there is no power going to the phone, nothing seems to work :/
I am deeply confused if you say no power gets to the phone when connecting with the power cable :-\ You had enough power when rebooting? Can you try another battery from someone to check the functionality of yours?
Here my ideas sort of stop, maybe someone else has got an idea?

Doesn't have to be the case, but in such a world full of HTC users it would be an easy test to find out about this possibility. It's just so... strange.

Nope emailed HTC but they weren't very helpful, think i'm just gonna send it off for repair
I don't know if it makes any difference, what about taking out the battery for more than a moment like 10 minutes? I remember such stuff from PCs (and honestly, these phones became small PCs ^^) when there were certain hardware related issues when you had to not only switch it off and on, but also switch it off, disconnect, then hold power to release the last leftovers of voltage and leave it out for a few minutes. You can't loose more right now when trying this.

Phone switches on in the pocket

Is there any way to set the power button not to work while the phone is locked?
I constantly facing the problem that the phone switches off and restart in my pocket. It happens when I lean my body to tight the shoes or squeeze the phone in my pocket in some other way.
Thanks

Eh?
Whilst your phone is in your pocket, you can press power button, then swipe to unlock (before screen timeout) & then long press power button till it restarts - all whilst in your pocket?
I highly doubt this, sounds like you have software issues - are you running a unstable OC/UV?

I can restart the phone by long press the power button. Even when the lock is on. Without unlocking it.
I checked on my friends htc v, which is even not rooted, and it works the same. While the phone is locked long press on the power button causes restart..
I was just wondering if can change that. Never had that problem with the sensation, but that one is a bit smaller

Yeah, sorry.
I didn't think you could reboot whilst locked, just checked on my own and your correct.
Wish I had a solution for you, but at least my reply has bumped you to the top. LOL
I havnt heard anyone have this problem before, the power button only sticks out a little bit, and it needs a bit of force to push
Maybe this is an overlooked request to be submitted to some of the custom rom developers.

Yeah, I've also looked in goggle but nobody seems to have similar problem.. .
It may be a fault of my cover. The lock of the cover is right above the power button and mayby they just didn't design it correctly..

Besides a phone case no solution
the reason for the long press is it is a life saver.
As we cannot take the battery out of the one x like the sensation, if you are frozen or stuck on bootscreen, you cant exactly pull the battery and put it back in, so by holding the power button for seven seconds, it simulates a battery pull forcing the phone to restart no matter what!
without it if you were frozen on bootscreen or just frozen or needed to restart by cutting off power to the battery and then power up. you would not be able to do it.
I'll have to find a way how to not pushing it so .
Thanks people

Hi there,
I experienced the same thing, when sitting in the car or tighting the shoes.. i'm hearing starting up sound of HTC ... quietly bla bla..
well, I dont like cases i'm not using such, thats why i found a solution for me and till now its working
so if you putting your phone in left pocket, then try to put it with display forward, but if you dont like it that way, then you should start using your right pocket ..that way the power button is staying at the outer side of you and wont be pressed when you "do" something.
hope this could help
Cheers

[Q] WFS touch screen not responding properly

Hi,
The touch screen in my wildfire s is not responding properly. Sometimes while using the phone, some touch feature gets clicked automatically, for e.g. when I am using the camera, the home button gets clicked automatically and it comes to the home page or some time the search window pops up automatically from no where. Rooting the device or putting a custom rom din't help.
Please help me to know whether I need to change some hardware from the service center or does this prob has some soft fixes?? Any body else having the similar kinda prob??
//Bubun
I've had similar things happen on my Wildfire S, but only under 2 conditions:
1. When my fingers/ the screen are wet. It tends to think i've pressed every button on the screen.
2. When the phone is overheated.
So if it's either of those problems, the first one is common sense to fix (dry yo' hands). The second probably means you're using too much RAM. Use a task manager to see if you have any RAM hogs.. It's probably neither of those, but it's the best I can do.
I've had a couple wfs that had problems similar to the ones that you are having. I just took the phone back because it was under warranty. Touch screen problems is a hardware issue that can't be fixed by flashing a ROM but sometimes it can but it depends. In your situation I would take the phone back if its under warranty. Is your phone new? When did you start experiencing this problem? Hope this helps.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I don't think that is the case with me as sometimes it happens just after the restart of the phone also. Some time it stops responding completely. But when I lock the screen and unlock it again through the power button, it starts responding properly. Can be a hardware issue. Is changing the digitizer gonna help? (I dnt have much knowledge about the hardware though.. )

HTC 10 Will not Boot/Power-up

My new HTC 10 (bought from HTC UK) is completely dead it seems. I've not tried to unlock or anything and it's a standard HTC supplied model.
The phone had just powered off completely via black screen with no input from me whilst inserting the phone into a car holder. Possibly the side buttons were pressed but in any case it powered off via a screen with small text at the bottom 1/3 of the screen. I didn't get a chance to see the text.
Now it seems that no combination (that I have tried) of button presses will power-up the device - not even boot to recovery (volume-down and power button). If I do attempt to boot to recovery then the 2 capacitive buttons either side of the home button flash on then off about 2 times per second. When plugged into the supplied HTC charger the charge light does not show!
I am about to call HTC UK - I have had it less than one week. Any advice would be most welcome as my brand new HTC 10 has failed on me .
Plug the phone to a wall socket and keep the power button pressed until the buttons stop blinking (10-15 seconds maybe?). Phone should vibrate and boot again.

:good: :victory: - Thank you. That did the trick and it's now booted up again and all looks so far OK.
Have you any idea what may have happened and caused it to go to this state where it would not (normally) power-up? Just keen to know what might have happened and more about this situation? Could I have a fault? I ask because I contacted HTC and they may replace the phone as it was logged as DoA.
Many thanks.
I don't think anything serious happened. The phone was just frozen. It wasn't turned off. You just needed a cold reboot and that's it. Hard to say why it froze though. I'm no hardware expert .
If you feel like that, you could try replacing it, but in my opinion the device is okay.

Most of the legacy apps (gallery, music, sense input etc) all show up as incompatible when I check the store for them. Apk mirror on the other hand has them all for download.
