I used Hangouts for about a day after it came out, but switched back to Talk because of the serious lag that it caused on my phone. Does the recent update make the app run smoother? I liked the interface, but couldn't stand how when I hit the home button, I could count on my fingers before the app would close, and then I would need to wait longer for my keyboard to disappear.
I'm still on AOKP 4.2.2 (6/30 nightly)
No lag reported here... Mmuzzy 4.2.2
it's still an heavy app

Hi guys I got my Rogers Galaxy S3 2 days ago (i747M). For the most part it is buttery smooth. But I notice that sometimes touchwiz has some micro stutters when moving between home screens. I also notice that while switching between home screens, before entering the home screen that has the Gmail widget, theres a quick minor stutter. Can anyone replicate this?
The way I did it was, first use the internet browser for a bit then go back to the home screen. After start moving between home screens and see if you have and stuttering before entering the home screen with the Gmail widget.
Is this a problem with the widget?
Extra information: I am on stock, un-rooted.
This is normal. I also experienced this with stock ROMs. Something that will help mitigate this issue is if you flash a custom ROM that has the scrolling cache disabled (such as Kyan ROM. There are others, but I know this one off the top of my head because I have personally used it). Though they do not go away fully even with the new ROM, the fluidity of the interface if greatly increased.
The only way that I know of to make this go totally away is to flash AOKP or CM10 as they have implemented project butter with great success.

This may be a bit off topic but, I know nightlies for CM10 are out.. But do you think we will get the stable version of it? I notice for CM9 we didn't get the stable version.. That kinda worries me a bit because I like cyanogenmod and the progress they made with CM10.

I wouldn't worry about it. We haven't gotten a stable version of CM9 yet because the Galaxy S3 came out after CM was well into its development cycle. Also, with the release of Jellybean source code, there isn't a huge incentive for the CM team to continue working on getting a "stable" build released (stable is in quotes because a lot of their nightlies are actually pretty stable). I have been running task and ktoonsez's AOKP for a while now and I have to say that their 8/20 version is quite superb. It offers much more customization that CM10 currently has and I would highly recommend it.
Yes I have this issue as well, I also am flashed on KyanRom, there isn't as much stutters, but they still happen here and there, even when I close an application, sometimes my widgets on the page it goes to look as though they've disappeared, but come back. I also experienced this while being unrooted. So far, don't know anything that can fix the issue to the fullest. I think lowering down on the amount of widgets on the home screen can help. But who doesn't love widgets?

Guess will have to wait till Jelly bean comes out. I'm sure project butter will get rid of 99% of lag and stuttering.
Hello, I have the GN2 for a few days, and I noticed the sms app is much less smooth than other stock apps and the browser...
It seems not to be in 60 fps, and the scrolling is pretty choppy, even with short number of messages. The only alternative app which is perfectly smooth is go sms pro.
I noticed the same issue with the GS3. Both GS3 and GN2 run on stock Rom 4.1.2.
I would like to know if there's a way to replace the stock app by another stock app which woudl run smoother...
I find strange that the issue is almost not reported.
Thanks for the hand.
As stated in the title I have the AT&T ion and just like everyone else I got sick of running ICS. I decided to flash the international jelly bean firmware but no matter how many times I do I keep getting the battery issue, lag within my app drawer, and the HD video recording problem (which I know can't be fixed yet). Some people say the battery settles over time or after running down but my main issue is the lag. It's extremely annoying, and I only get it when scrolling through the app drawer, not the homescreens. I tried rooting and tweaking, clean installs (even without keeping the baseband) and even using third party launchers but no matter what it still lags. In Nova launcher for example I get it while opeining the app drawer. I've searched all over about this but I've only seen one other person with this problem. I have no idea what the problem is because it's obviously not the launcher itself, or the kernel, or the firmware in general but I can't seem to get rid of it unless to use ICS. So my question is: anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance
I am running the 28i rogers with the Honami home and don't have these issues. Restoring apps from a ics Sony backup can cause problems too. With standby mode I get a day from it on average. Try a clean install of the Rogers rom and de bloat it.
U could try to supercharge it..
sent from my aoba device :3
Thanks for the responses. But like I said it's not the launcher or anything like that. I used the stock international firmware and had it rooted and debloated, and I used the honami launcher which was definitely an improvement but didn't solve the problem. The battery thing seems to be hit or miss, i would say about half of those on jelly bean seem to have it. I'll look into supercharging it. Do you have a link to anything in the forums? thanks
Hey guys,
I've noticed lags and stutters a lot more than I feel I should with a device this powerful. A few areas where I've occasionally seen it:
- Typing on the keyboard
- Multitasking with certain apps (somewhat understandable)
- Recent apps menu
- Opening certain apps
Perhaps I've been a little spoiled in that I'm coming from the Nexus 5 with a lightweight rom, but just a few things I've noticed.
Anyone else noticing some lag? Are there any settings you've tweaked to minimize this lag?
Thanks!
Recent apps and keyboard have always been slow on Touchwiz unfortunately...so for app switching I use Switchr Pro (amazing app btw) and Google keyboard which is always fast as well. You can turn animations off in developer options but yeah, I used a Moto X 2nd Gen for two weeks and that thing is waaaaay faster and smoother than any Samsung I've ever used but I prefer the features that the S Pen brings so I deal with the occasional lag here and there lol
Thanks for the response Composi. A agree, the software value adds like multi-window and s-pen definitely out-weight the occasional lag. This is my second "Stock" Samsung device (had the S3 years back and g-nex) but my first Note device. I'll try your suggestion and use the google keyboard and check out Switchr Pro. Definitely a fantastic phone though and for the power a features it gives me I'm willing to live with the lag.
I have never experienced this much lag and stutter. It's unfortunate but I am experiencing everything you are...
There's the occasional spastic scrolling in the browser, which I don't get. My Note 3 was pretty bad regarding this and the only browsers that would scroll smoothly were Chrome Beta and Opera. At least with the Note 4 it seems to be mostly gone. Strange though how Samsung can't solve this.
The SMS app also stutters a tiny bit, but the Note 3 stuttered like crazy when scrolling through a long conversation. It's not enough to bother me though with this newest handset.
I don't see the specific issues you mention though, OP.
I definitely notice more lag than I'd like or thought I would be, then I look at my RAM and I'm using up over 2GB of 2.7 GB, that's just background stuff! There's so much background processes running from, well, I don't really know but root would be nice to get rid of some of this crap; I've even disabled a lot of stuff. Whats running:
Quick Connect Interactive
Dropbox
TeslaUndrea
Evernote
com.sec.android.app.Smart
DeviceTest
ClipboardUIService
Direct pen input
Fingerprints
Beam Service
Smartcard service
Context Service
Google Play Service
Google play services
S Finder
S Health
Samsung Push Service
SoundAlive
Google Search
Syncronize
Weather
Facebook
com.sec.android.app.FalshBarservice
MyScript Resource Manager
Smart Remote
SwiftKey
I have also had 2 random reboots in less than 1 day. Maybe disabling bloat messes with things
I only experience lag when I press the recent apps button. Other than that, there isn't any lag on my Note 4.
Since I installed apex launcher I haven't noticed any lag except for a little keyboard lag when inputting the contact I want to text in the messaging app
Do you guys have power saving turned on? If you do check in that settings menu and if you have restrict performance on that turns the processor down at all times. I think that's a bug. If you just turn that part off the phone works great. Spent all night diagnosing that one.
You know what raiu, I do have PowerSaving mode on. I was under the impression that it needed to be toggled on for the auto-enable at x% to work. Turns out it doesn't. I would image this will fix my slight lag issue, and all fix the ridiculously good battery life I have seen since getting the phone.
How many of you are using Android N and you are not ,why?
Yes, bit laggy using some apps but nothing that makes me upset, as long as i have my phone calls, emails and whatsapp running i'm happy. The next update i hope will fix many issues and most importantly the lag problem.
No, largely because of the lag. I've been spoiled by the smoothness of the stock ROM, to me the preview was basically slowing down constantly.
Ill use it when pure nexus comes out with a build.
Yes, I am experiencing zero lag with Preview 2 and will flash Preview 3 as soon as its available.
Yes, but experiencing a lots of lags, like when turning on wifi after wake up, upating apps, and much other random lags.. hope DP3 fix this.
