Need Help: How Can I Remove My Phone Number? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Okay, so telco service people rate right up there with fruit with their usefulness. I switched cell phone, and I'm going to sell my old phone. However even after a factory reset, and wiping the cache, when I check the system info my phone number still is listed, and my Sprint email that has my name listed. Obviously the phone doesn't work, but I don't want to sell it with that info on there. I just spent 40min talking to Sprint, going round and round, they kept saying "your number is listed on your new phone". I was like "YES on the account my number is on my new phone.. but PHYSICALLY on my old phone.. in the settings screen my number is still listed". She kept saying "no it's not, I'm looking at it right here". FUUUCK!!! REALLY!?!?! Like arguing with a door knob.
Long story short the phone is a Galaxy Epic SGII - SPH-D710 JellyBean 4.1.2 GB27, I'm hoping the collective of the Internet will be strong/smart enough to solve this riddle. Can anyone help?

You need to fix that fowl language. We do not condone it. As far as your issue, try a stock odin one click.

Hey man were all grown ups here. I'm not being flagrant with it. Sometimes adults just need to use other words to express their feelings.
I may try that one-click solution if I don't get any other options, thank you. However it seems like there should be a more straightforward way to wipe the information

I had the same problem with an evo. I want it to sell it but I didnt want anybody seeing my phone number, so here's what I did. Look for a tutorial on how to flash the phone and in qpst instead of putting your or where your phone is you put zeros. Simple as that.

I'm sorry, but we have kids under 15 in our forums. I understand people need to vent, but you need to edit your post to avoid any infraction s from a mod.
Unfortunately there is never an easy way to do things. You are gonna have to try it. The reason it doesn't remove it with a factory reset I'd because you would have to reprovision the device after clearing the data partition. That is basically what a factory reset is. The information you are trying to clear is in a different area that may get completely wiped if you do a one click. If not, CDMA workshop might be needed. Have you tried updating the profile? That might clear it out as well.

Both good suggestions, I'm at work but I'll try when I get home. Thanks for the help!

Doing a one click is about as easy as it gets

[Q] spy apps/software??

I know similar questions have been asked before and information won't be easy to obtain from anyone regarding this but I know so many poeple have the knowledge to answer. I obviously don't want to use a subscription service but here is my dilemma.
Yes I am trying to spy, however I own both devices and pay for the entire bill just granting the phone for use as is to my current girlfriend, I'm not accusing her of cheating however she is hiding something and its all within the texts she deletes, those texts are transmitted to and from the device I allow her to use, just looking for any options I have aside from shelling out hundreds or thousands on something that can be easily accomplished, however if the information is sensitive I don't want it uploaded to the web, just more of a forward type of thing I suppose but definately hidden from her view, she isn't tech savvy, but our evos are both rooted and custom Rom etc. If anyone could help me with this, that would be super. App / software / source / service doesn't matter to me.
cool story bro, get a new girlfriend and leave the spying to the spy's. if you do not trust her, let her go.

To everyone that replied except for don. Your replies were 100% worthless, unless you are replying to someone with helpful information you shouldn't reply at all that just makes you look worse people asking dumb questions. And thanks to you don I will check that out. And if anyone else has anything useful but don't want to share it publicly feel free to message by email I look forward to hearing.
if somehow...
you could tap into carrier IQ! Sorry bro...had to! I would also use sms control...neat little tool.
If you have access to the gmail account that is used with the phone you could install Google Voice. I noticed the other day that it saves a copy of my texts even though I had flashed multiple Roms since.

First, you need to get help with your own problems of control and paranoia and forget about attempting illegal and immoral invasions of privacy.
Second, you should let that girl go. One day you might be healthy enough for an adult relationship, but not today.

Hit the nail on the head. If you know she is cheating get rid of her. Why would you want to put yourself through that BS only to get mad at her for something you already know. Once a cheat always a cheat. What are you going to do anyways after you confirm and confront?

Could he? He does own the phones and the contract is in his name. Should be able to do whatever he wants with the phone he's "lent" out, right?
A buddy of mine suspected his wife was cheating and she wouldn't admit to it. He decided to sift through her emails. He found she was, had proof, divorced her and is now happily married to a faithful woman. Just sayin.....had he not done that he would be far worse off. There's definately better ways to do it.....but every relationship and every person is different right?
That's weird, I thought he was asking for help with finding an app. Guess I missed the part where he asked for a bunch of relationship advice....

[Q] Bootloops/Screen Issues. Perhaps I bricked it?

So recently I applied the stock rooted 4.0.4 rom to my CDMA Nexus. After this, it would have this strange problem where occasionally the screen would just not respond to any touch. I would battery pull many times over before it would start working again. Tonight I finally got fed up and tried to apply the factory image (4.0.2) to it through Wug's root toolkit v1.3. When it completed the phone went into a serious bootloop, not getting past the google logo. What happened? Did I just make a very expensive paperweight?
Restore everything to an earlier time including the bootloader, recovery, radios, and rom through adb. You can also use a toolkit like the one found below to restore your phone to stock then redo everything:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
Yeah, I've tried that a few times and it's still stuck on the Google image and won't move forward. Just restarts and restarts.
Another evidence that 1 click methods leads to ppl doing stuff without any understanding
Thanks for your help, sir. I know I'm not the most knowledgeable but you don't have to rub it in. I'm already down a phone.

There really are tons of threads here telling you exactly what to do in a case like yours - you just have to use the search and take the time to read through them.
And no, it's not bricked as long as you can get into the recovery.

While I understand your anger, he does also make a valid point. 2 reasons why. If you didn't use a one click method maybe your phone would be working fine. 2nd by doing it the hard way hopefully you learned something and when you have a problem you know how or at least understand what is involved with fixing it.
Hope you get it fixed.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
exactly, my intention was not to make you feel bad.
I was hoping this example would make ppl learn the proper way.
As if you did, you wouldnt be in this predicament.
You would also know that you haven't bricked your device, not freak out over it and just fix it.
Cold hard facts are generally blunt and I understand your frustration, I also appreciate that you didnt start a flame war.
Hope you've sorted it out and and learned something in the process.
Good luck.
Ok. I did manage to fix it by learning how to manually flash the stock image. Perhaps I did need the hard line!

i think i bricked my epic 4g touch. i had ics fb21 on it and i tried to restore a gingerbread rom back onto it via cwm and something went terribly wrong. i tried all the steps in qbking77s youtube video about unbricking/unrooting. my phone successfully went through the steps but when it reboots it just boot loops. when i try to boot into recovery it continues to bootloop. download mode is still available? any suggestions? thanks in advanced
Have you tried putting it into download mode and then using one of the one click restores via odin? If its bootlooping, your not at a total loss

I believe a few people have said it already. But don't use from manager to flash recoveries. Especially the touch one. You will brick your phone and can't fix it. Only a JTAG service would fix it or a replacement by sprint. Either way good luck and read up on stuff before you try it out.

I didn't like the touch cwm. but now I am deleting it from sdcard so i dont mistakenly soft/full brick my device. Keep us updated!

after using odin to unroot/unbrick my epic4gt and having still it fail to turn on passed the boot screen, i took my busted phone back to sprint on monday. told them what the problem was, "my phone wont go passed the first screen when i turn it on". they said "ok, we'll just erase everything off, should be as good as new".
i stood around waiting for about 45 minutes, i was so bored i even shamefully sent out a tweet from an iphone..smh. sales associate then came back to me saying," ive never seen anything like this, nothing will work on it, you must have rooted this phone?" my response was "i have done nothing to that phone".
with a kinda upset smirk on his face he says, "it had to be rooted buuuuut since we have no proof we will order you a phone for free, come pick it up friday."
life has been so tough w/out my epic for a whole week, happy that i get my new one on friday
You know...
I'm starting to wonder how I feel about ppl that brick their phones, through fault of their Own, then take them into sprint claiming the "update broke it!", "i never rooted that! i have No Idea what you're talking about!", and I wonder if this is going to make it harder for people with Legitimate issues to get replacements, and affect the way Sprint looks at rooting our phones in general. This Affects Their Bottom Line.

Phone won't turn on after installing WanamLite | Help

Hey guys, I'm new to the boards and to Android. I was a very longtime user of iPhone and iOS until recently I returned my iPhone 5 for a Note II.
I apologize before hand if I'm coming off as a noob--thats cause I am--but I've ran into a problem.
Late last night I backed up my stock rom and installed [XXDLJ2 4.1.2][V2.0] WanamLite | Aroma. Everything went fine, the phone was working fine and after a while, I knocked out.
This morning the phone wasn't on so I figured it was dead. I immediately left it charging for a couple of hours and when I returned, the phone was still dead, no sign of life.
I'm starting to panic and I'm really hoping someone can help me.
I truly apologize for the noobing and if this thread isn't posted where it supposed to be, please accept my apologies..
thank you in advance.

Is it even booting to a splash screen (Samsung logo)? If it is, you can force it into download mode and Odin back to stock. There are tutorials on how to do so out there.
If it doesnt turn on at all, or if it just vibrates with a dark screen, you probably have a hard brick and may want to try warrantying it out. I've never had a softbrick that wouldn't power on, and I'd be wary of your Craigslist guy if he says a phone that shows no signs of life is a soft brick...

If I'm not mistaken, it's Clean ROM. The only issue I have is that my cell network is gone. I called and went to a retail AT&T and they couldn't figure out what was wrong.
Luckily, he's cool and we've been in contact, should be fixed by tomorrow-- Unless you guys have any suggestion in what it might be and how it can be fixed. If not, I'll see him as soon as possible.

also check to see if you have an IMEI number as well. CleanROM is an att ROM with all the correct data APNs (AccessPointNames), e.g., made from the ATT Stock ROM, so you should be able to connect. on the otherhand, if you don't have an IMEI number you'll need to fix that before you can move forward.

Ya can check and change yur apn settings by going to settings-wireless and networks-mobile networks-access point names. Ya should have an att apn if not hit the menu button and add new apn. So I tried this and it tells me "Insert SIM card to access netword services." I certainly have a SIM card and its a new one. Any suggestions?
As said above, waste of $50 for sure. A little patience/reading/searching would have allowed you to do this yourself.. free.

That's what I was thinking as well; the modem might have been lost or corrupted. Easy fix.
OP, if you can get yourself into download mode, you're up against a soft brick. Once you're in download mode, fixing the phone is easy for almost any level of experience. Do some reading here, skim through ROM threads and read the stickies inside-out. There's nothing that guy did that a few hours of research and a little coaching can't help you do yourself.

Will a factory reset reset password unlock?

ok my poor x girlfriend's 13 year old son had a heart attack now he in a coma.. so sad 13 years old i dont get it?? well its not looking good at all they are taking him off the machine that helps him breath tomarrow... she got him a tmobile gs3 for xmas.. and she wants to go in his phone.. but he has that pass code to unlock screen if i factory reset it in stock recovery will that un do it? i feel so bad for her she lost the father of her son to drugs he od.. now this thanks
I'm having a hard time believing this story. For all we know, your a thirteen year old kid who has found/stolen an s3 that has a pass code on it and trying to find a way to use the phone.
Whether your story is true or not, there's only one way to find out if doing a factory reset from the stock recovery will work, right?

bro im 32 year old man and would NEVER make up a story like that..
I can kinda see where his skepticism is coming from tbh. I know Ive had a few occasions where someone one would try to get help with something questionable by telling me some crazy, hardly believable story (some pretty out there too!).
Most times folks will just post their question and explain later if asked, so when we see a story like yours it does cause some to wonder about the legitimacy. Call it being gun shy I guess, but we just don't want to see the knowledge we share be used for immoral, illegal, or malicious purposes. (Yes, people do try to "trick" us, on occasion).
Considering your level of activity on xda, it does make it easier to trust you though. But try to understand that when you say you would never make up a story like that, there are plenty who would, and all we have to differentiate and decide is your username and our intuition!
And since you'd figure it out eventually anyway, yes a factory reset, from stock recovery, will reset the device to an oob state, including any passwords and other security measures. It'll also wipe internal sdcard where pictures and other personally important data are often stored.
Sorry to hear about all of that btw. Will keep you in our prayers. Take care.

Hi
I don't know why you would post about a personal death but yes when you factory reset and go back to stock it erases all of your current data.

Like I said, your story may or may not be true. Your post seems like some kid wrote it. Seriously, a 32 year old calling people on the internet "bro".

To be fair, lots of people on xda, older and younger, use "bro".
And I agree with the questioning of posting about any personal tragedy, as I have seen people use it as a cover of sorts or to entice an answer by tugging on the heart strings, but I have also seen people legitimately post these things, both as an outlet, and in anticipation of being asked why they are trying to do a certain thing.
I'm not making a call here either way as there really is no way to know. But it would be more suspicious to me if it were from a day old account with only one post.
I'm not trying to argue, defend or attack any of you btw. Just felt it was a point worth mentioning is all.

As for getting into the phone as Doc said you can get rid of the password but all the data will get wiped as well.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I can't even imagine...
There are never any words good enough.
I know it's probably not the time to work on it but when you are ready to, there are a few threads I've seen here on xda that can help you bypass that lock. Not sure how intensive they are but they are there. In case you want to try and save any pictures or something...

I owe you an apology. I wasn't saying you were lying, its just that the thread is a little suspicious to me and there's people out there that will go to any extent to get what they want. Sorry for the loss and sorry for jumping to conclusions.
