Android 4.3 OTA, Flash apk will not install - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I recently updated my Nexus 7 to 4.3 via OTA. In previous version of android, i never had no issues installing flash.apk file from either adobe direct or other locations. This time, after the OTA to 4.3, I have no luck at all.
Unknown sources - Check
Reboot and attempt install - check.
any other suggestions?
PS. after OTA update, I factory reset to provide a clean install.

Well, for sh1ts & giggles, decided to try to reinstall the flash apk.
Sure enough it worked.

Which flash apk did you install?
Mine crashes the browser whenever I try to view flash content. I tried AOSP browser, Firefox and Dolphin.

Download the latest flash from Adobe site along moon browser from the play store, works for me

How did you install the update? Did you by chance flash a 4.3 ROM from recovery to get it?
If so,

Flash Videos on 4.2.2?

What exactly is the situation with Flash video on Jelly Bean now? I installed JB 4.2 on my gnex as soon as I got it a month ago, and it has played Flash fine until today. Now it asks me to update flash player and then tells me my device is not supported.
When I looked it up, I found articles saying that Flash player would not be supported past ICS and had been pulled from the Play Store. And indeed, I don't have a copy installed.
Yet despite this, Flash videos worked until today. So I assume Google had baked some sort of Flash support into the OS.
I guess this means we have to wait for Google to update the support for the new version of Flash? Do you think this will happen through Play Story updates to Browser or Chrome, or will we need to wait for 4.2.3 (or whatever the next release is) to see this fixed?
I know Adobe only cut off support in August, so I guess we don't have we long track record to estimate how long it will take to get the issue fixed, but has this happened when Adobe updated Flash before (since August)?

You could simply sideload Flash...
download this and install through root explorer to have flash

Version 11.1

Or go to http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html, scroll down to "Flash Player for Android 4.0 archives", and download the latest version. Currently: 11.1.115.48.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it does no good I am afraid. I still get a notification saying I have to update flash in every browser when I try to load a flash video. Probably because the latest version for android is 11.1 and they are now up to 11.6.

That's not a problem of your rom, most of the newest browsers doesn't support flash.
I can watch flash videos with the stock browser or dolphin(you have to delete a file, before you can watch flash)

Here you go. Just go to the end of the OP to the updates and it will tell you the path to where the file is to delete it. Good luck

[Q] Camera stopped working after rooting..help?

First of all, I'm a bit new to the whole rooting/custom ROM thing. I rooted my Galaxy s3 i747m using odin and have cwm recovery installed. I flashed a custom stock jelly bean ROM with gapps. Everything works fine except the camera crashes upon startup even using third party camera apps, and there is no default music player installed. The music player is no big deal but I really need the camera to work. I have been searching around for camera apk's and i tried installing one and moving it to samsung/app using root explorer and changing the permissions as instructed. It still doesn't work and I am currently using a mac so it's hard to work with.
Should I try to go back to stock Touchwiz or does anyone have any suggestions on what to do to fix the camera problem? The camera doesnt even show when I search under all applications but it is present in the app folder and as a shortcut.

boot into recovery and see what version it says at the top. if it's not at least 6.0.2.3 or higher, your going to get a status 7 error.
here is the link to cwm 6.0.2.3: http://d-h.st/8qP
place the zip on your sd card and flash this in recovery. reboot recovery and see if its updated. if so, flash the rom/gapps
You can also download rom manager and update your cwm recovery from there.

[Q] Does your 4.1.2 Browser crash as well?

Hello
Ever since I upgraded from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 the stock browser crashes a couple of times per day. Does this happen to antone else?
GT-N7100 via Tapatalk 2
Not noticed it on my Note 2 but it happens constantly on the Note 10.1. I did some digging around and it would seem that it is being caused by flash. As yet I have NOT been able to resolve it, i just use Boat browser instead, but maybe try using a different version of flash and see if that helps.

I actually dont have this prob on my note 2 but have this on my nexus 10. I have experienced that clearing cache /dalvik cache helps a lot. Maybe it might help on the note 2/note 10.1 too
Sent from my GT-N7100 or the Nexus 10, heaven knows.
Those who help noobs go to heaven. True story.
Same problem here, since the 4.1.2 update.
However, it only occurs once per session.
Usually initially. Then works ok.
Thanks for answering guys... I might try an older versions of Flash or even better if I can get my hands of the Browser version from 4.1.1.
It's probably a long shot but does anyone have a titanium backup of the Browser from 4.1.1?
Brgds... /Tubgirl
Well, I downgraded Flash to an earlier version but that didn't help.
It is however somehow related to Flash because if I uninstall Flash the Browser doesn't crash anymore. Running without Flash isn't an option though!
Guess I'll have to flash an older ROM and extract an older version of the Browser to see if that works... if not I'll just plain use an older ROM. The Stock Browser is the program I use 90% when using my Note II.
Problem solved!
I downgraded from 4.1.2 (MB2) to 4.1.2 (LL7) and did a Titanium Backup of the Browser. Then I upgraded to 4.1.2 (MB2) and restored the LL7-Browser and now it's been two days without a single crash! :good:
Brgds... /Tubgirl
Running 4.1.2 stock browser with the latest flash player 11.1.115.54 and never had the browser crash so far.

[Q] what's the deal with 4.3?

- For android 4.3, there has been a lot of talk on the developer section, and from what I can see, the major bugs/issues have been fixed. Like the ROM not rebooting correctly. For those using 4.3, is this true?
- Also, from what I understand, this was due to the recoveries not being ready for 4.3, however CM released their own bare bone recovery to fix that issue. And then I've read that the TW recovery has also been updated to solve this problem.
-There is a lot of information in the development forums, but I have not seen any post on the steps on what to do in order to upgrade from 4.2 to 4.3.
-Right now I have CWM 5 recovery, because that's been working for me, and I never bothered changing (bad experience with trying to upgrade/change a recovery). Now from what I understand, I should be able to flash the newest touch recovery (via the goo app?), and then wipe and flash any 4.3 ROM. Any detail instructions would be a help, or if someone can create a tutorial post, that would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Here is a post I made yesterday about how I switched from 4.2 to 4.3
I hope it helps. I have been on hellybean 4.3 for two days and everything is running great.

You could just install ROM Manager and update from there. It's super-easy (you need ROOT, but I presume you have that since you're flashing ROMs anyway). :good:

Many people have had bad experiences with ROM Manager. Especially in the Gingerbread days when its use was more common for this sort of thing.
Just my 2 cents.

Interesting -- always been good to me, although I only use it to update the recovery; for the ROM itself I use Cyanogen's update util. I also use CWM, not TWRP, so there's that...

Ur best and safest approach would be to DL Odin and the drivers for ur phone, then go to techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules and DL twrp2.6.0.4, this is the 4.3 compatible version, then put ur device in DL mode and connect to odin, load the tar file in PDA and click start, 30 sec and u have the latest and greatest twrp recovery, now go get hellybean 4.3 or beanstalk4.3 and flash it, watch the beauty take place...

I updated my rom today like I usually do from the CMUpdater and it updated from 4.2 to 4.3. I didn't mean or want to do that, but it didn't tell me otherwise. Now I'm having issues left and right......the one time I don't back it up...grrr.
I'm having the most issues with Gapps. I downloaded the new one and installed it and Google Music and Youtube keeps crashing. I guess I'll be doing the full wipe now.
Did u update to 4 3 gapps? It won't do it automatically, even if u updated through goo it just looks at what version is installed and updates that version, 4.3 gapps can be found in any 4.3 thread

4.3.1 rooted, how to go to 4.4.2 ?

Hi dudes,
I've got a used Nexus 7 (2013) on android 4.3.1 firmware but rooted ...
I'd like to go to the lastest firmware 4.4.2 I guess, so I wonder if I can do a upgrade using the wifi as an unrooted tab or not ?
My tab is rooted , is it a problem for upgrading ?
If so, I'd rather unroot it, I prefere tablet as brand new ...
is there a way to brick my tab using the official update (by wifi) ?
Thanks !
If you are not receiving the update, just unroot it, and return it to stock. You can use the Nexus Root Toolkit by Wugfresh. It's really simple to use, and the help section is really good. Goggle it.
Have you tried going into settings, and going into system updates? Just having the tablet rooted, should not prevent you from receiving updates. Now, if it's routed with a custom rom, that's a different story. Good luck
--=={BSnapp} ==--
hi, it is rooted with the official firmware 4.3.1 I Guess( is there a way to see if it's a custom or official firmware ?)
and I've got the notification of the 4.4.2 upgrade ...
?
In parameters here is what I've got :
band base version
DEB-G00_2.25.1_0802
kernel version
3.4.0-g9e52a21
[email protected]$1
so official one ?
I see that you have the LTE model (DEB.). If you could post a screenshot of your About Tablet screen, one of us should be able to help you.

apparently, trying to do a recevory using the POWER and UP trick, it seemes the guy before me has installed clockworkmod recovery v6.0.4.4 so what should I do ?
You could flash a 4.4.2 ROM using Clockwork Mod recovery. NOTE: Please research and double check every step before flashing. The basics are: make sure that you have plenty of battery life; make a backup of your current ROM; do a factory reset in Clockwork Mod; select a 4.4.2 specific to your device, e.g., Paranoid Android for DEB; download a zip file of SuperSu 1.94; download Gapps; then flash the ROM, Gapps, & Supersu. Again: read, read, read through XDA before flashing anything. EDIT: Make sure that you have the most recent Clockwork Mod version for your device.

I understand only English, so I don't know. I do know that as Bsnapp's post states, Wug's Nexus Toolkit works well for unrooting and flashing stock. Back up your files first.
