Doesn't removing bloat and deodexing have opposite effects...albeit to varying degrees?

What exactly is the purpose of removing stock bloatware, apart from feeling comfortable...?

I was thinking the same lol.
There is hardly any "bloat" on this device.
There is no Touchwiz or Sense. it's pure android! Enjoy it!!!

Aye, and all the 'stock' apps can be uninstalled the ol' fashioned way.

I found out that you can disable an app by going into Settings, Apps, select the app, and then press Disable. I don't use GMail and got tired of seeing the icon. Seems to work the same as freezing an app.

Oh yeah I guess y'all are right. Sorry, just got back into android with the new nexus 7. Honestly I just don't like having anything on my devices I don't use.

Free up space, delete an unused process. Keep crap apps from annoying us. That said this is Nexus. There is not much you could call bloat

Currents.

If its a system app that can't be removed by just uninstalling it. Than they other option is to root and just delete it using a file manager like root explorer.
Pretty sure gmail and currents are play store apps so they should just be able to be uninstalled.

Malware on my phone? :(

So mysterious bookmarks keep appearing on my home screen every other day. I sort of ignored it at first but now there's one called SMS spy and something about location and now I'm creeped out. Anyone have any ideas? These don't show up in application cache or anything, just on my home screen.

I have never heard of that before. What happens when you click it? Does it direct you to a website?
I would also browse your root folder directories and see if you can find anything out of the ordinary.

Shift apps/malware for sure. Uncheck "install from unknown sources" and try to track down the rogue app. If you can't find anything, I'd factory reset. Don't wanna mess around with that stuff.

what have you been installing? any apps that aren't allowed to be discussed here can cause things like that.
Bro if your gonna download apps illegally, at least get a bunch of security applications, like 6 of em for 6 different opinions.
Speaking of malicious, Has anyone got a warning about Super user being malicious??? That is what both of security applications said. And I got it from the play store.

Antivirus on anything is pointless if you're doing something completely legit.

Some apps from the market will do that. If you are getting any of the air push ads then that's what it is. Some apps are in the market that will do that. Best to find which app it is and delete it. That is from my experience.

A few apps from the play store will add bookmarks to your home screen. TBH I can't name any off the top of my head but has happened on my GF android before. Chances are an app you have downloaded has been developed by the same people who make this "SMS spy" app. I would go through installed Apps and note who the publisher is and see if any are the same as the SMS spy app.
Chances are its just pain in arse advertising.

As indyred99 said. Some apps allow air push ads. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.byq.airblocker from the play store. (Must be rooted) reboot, then they will stop.
Also, only install apps from the play store.

Well I was hoping there was a free legal way to get it.... like taking a offer or a survey. Kinda like how akinator lite offer akinator pro to people who like their Facebook page or tell a certain amount of people about the app.... free doesn't always mean steal. Remember that

Saving my apps to an sd card works for me. I also tend to modify roms via the android kitchen and while at it, place a few apps I need accessible prior to flashing (root explorer, etc).
Well, I've noticed that they don't restore all the time unless you use the same ROM. But even a stock rim misses the occasional app. Titanium Backup works great for me.

Remove your Google account, and just add it back for auto restore to work again.

U just select what u want to delete in the check boxes and then click start and it uninstalls them takes about 30secs tto check em off and a few mins tto run if its alot of apps. I usually debloat one at a time in tibu tho so I can backup the few I may want later before deleting, or sometimes ill just backup all the system apps in batch then do a batch uninstall

Lmao u guys crack me up . I remove some stuff from aosp/cm based roms that I don't use but mostly just stuff that actively runs in the background like tvout or other things that like to autostart. I only do it cuz if i don't use it I don't see a point in wasting ram/CPU and battery on it just chilling in the background for no good reason. But that list is mostly stuff alot of ppl use, or is required for full functionality

Wonder when they changed it whenever I removed talk back in the day it would always break my Google accounts. Google must have done some changes in one of the more recent updates to talk which allows the accounts and sync to work without it.

On my evo everytime I would remove it I would get Google account sign in errors and the market would force close. I bet they changed it sometime around when market became play store, or maybe HTC set it up as a dependency in the framework. I don't remember if I ever tried removing it on CM but tried a few times on sense roms only to have to restore a namdroid >_<

Give me a link and I'll take a screen. I don't know which pages have prominent ads as I've been blocking them for years.
On a side note I do have to edit the hosts file occasionally to allow certain sites, as taptu and feedly won't redirect correctly for some of my feeds if they are blocked.
Edit I'll add a few sites. Obviously the ads are blocked in apps too which is the main benefit I find.
Thanks so much for this app !

Hi,
Thanx. it's a great app.

T-Mobile knows more than you think...

Got a notification today telling me my device health was good, and I had to check performance and this popped up:
I rooted 2 days ago and stayed stock. Anyone know how they know this?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
When your phone is rooted, it knows, and so do the apps. That's why you cannot install isis wallet if your phone is rooted. In the about section in settings, it says if the device is rooted. If it says modified then it is rooted and any app can probably see that. Doesn't mean that tmobile knows it is, but the app does, and it may, or may not report this back to them.

it seems more likely the purchase fees will be for the added features. Allcast is the perfect example. It's a CM app on the app store that has a time limit unless you pay money. That's their future. I can easily imagine a CM rom that is basically AOSP, and a collection of appstore apps that you have to pay money for to get the "Full CM experience". Of course, if you buy a CM phone (like the oppo n1), you'd get all those for free.
Or they just collect your data and sell it on their own kinda like Google
