Portait or landscape? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I know i like Portait mode myself, but what do you guys use most?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Landscape.

portrait mode almost exclusively.

I always use portrait but since the nexus logo on the back is sideways you almost wonder if Google wants people to use it in landscape

It's a tablet, not a phone... so, landscape for me...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

I like auto rotate.

Landscape, always!

So far depends on what I'm doing with it. Of course it's my first tablet ever as well so I'm still figuring things out.

Landscape for a tablet !

Landscape is harder to type on IMO opinion so if i have to type i usually just swivel it around and back again.

Indeed so. Subtle tips. Cause you'll notice it's in portrait on the original.
Personally, 95% landscape, 5% portrait.

Landscape always except for a couple of stupid apps that don't support it.

I actually find I flip it around a lot, depending on what I'm doing. I don't make sure my home screens always work in both orientations, which can be a challenge at times, but it forces me to get creative.

Both. Just depends on what I'm doing

Though I use my 10.1" tablet exclusively in landscape mode, I fond myself using the Nexus 7 (2013) mostly in portrait mode. Watching video or playing games being the main exception. When I'm in bed sometime I'll hold in in landscape also.
I though I was going to be holding it in landscape like it's bigger brother, but that's not the case.

Portrait, feels like I'm holding a book. Landscape for videos though obviously.

Portrait for the most part. Even on the web.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

Portrait 80%
Landscape 20%

I used my 2012 Nexus 7 almost exclusively in portrait, I hated using it landscape. With this one though, I have found myself using landscape more and more. I think the larger bezels help and make it easier for me to reach 100% of the screen if I'm going two hands.
If I am one handing the device though,I generally use portrait. I think a lot of the reason I use landscape is to help differentiate from my portrait phone. I have also been playing a lot of games so I might have adapted so I can rotate less

Portrait most of the time and landscape for videos only. Because I'm not a retard. Lmao.

Set Orientation App

Just found this app on Google Play that allows full rotation with the Nexus 7 when on the homescreen or in any app.
The app is completely free and doesn't require root.
Check it out!

I would prefer if there was an app that moved the icons to the bottom of the screen etc instead of just rotating them and leaving them where they are.

This is normal on ICS and JB. The Galaxy Nexus behaves this way too.
The only way to accomplish this is tablet mode. Tablet mode always has the status bar at the bottom for all rotations. EOS does this and has full rotation built in.

"Ultimate screen rotation" works great as well. It's free and I believe there is a paid version too.

OP's ap works as advertised, cheap, no surprises.
(I was under impression home rotate, rotation was a big deal.)
Wanted landscape home for car mount.
THS
I am liking the one OP posted so far.

I use ultimate screen rotation too! Works great for me!

Try sslauncher, it lets you rotate anything (even individual icons or text). Screens rotate and let's you have completely different themes in portrait and landscape. Well worth the cost for the full version.
Good find.
Not sure if you guys are aware, but homescreen rotation works with 4.1.2 with the stock launcher

Yellow screen tint

I'm not sure if this is just my phone or its like this on everyone else's phone.
The screen has a general yellow tint throughout the entire screen when viewed in portrait mode. This generally is ok with me if it's even throughout.. However when I turn the screen clockwise to the landscape mode, and there is a clear white band without any yellow tint approximately a quarter of an inch wide on the left side of the screen. If I reverse the orientation such that I turn the phone 180 degrees to the other landscape mode there is another white band but this time only an eighth of an inch or less.
You can test this out opening up the browser to Google since there is a lot of white in that Web page.
Please let me know if it's just my phone or an issue with the nexus in general. I've also tried different rooms and kernels without any differences.

It's defective. Some color misrepresentation is normal, but white bands are not.
Thanks for the reply, I'm not sure if it's a software issue as the band is not there in portrait mode, and only in landscape. And that also changes from landscape in one orientation as compared to 180 degrees in the other direction.

In my eyes yellow tint is what you want. Blue tint means the display is of poor quality,

Preference. Cooler displays and warmer displays. I prefer cooler.
Problem isn't cooler or warmer display. It the fact that when I turn the screen to landscape there is a section on the left that is pure white without the tint.. And it not there when it's turned back to portrait mode.

I see. Well it sure sounds messed up.
Understand it could be a software issue but any sort of banding can't be good might be better if you just sent it to the service centre

You can fix the yellow tint with franco's kernel.

I was also having this issue but after I flashed MiNCO ROM this issue disappeared.
I suggest you to try this ROM it comes with Franco kernel.

[Q] Keyboard too big on landscape mode

Hi, i would like to know if it's possible to resize the keyboard in landscapemode, because when I'm using whatsapp etc. it covers more than half of the screen.
A noobfriendly way to make it work would be awesome guys
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Yeah it is quite big eh... Just tried it now. But maybe as the phone is large there is no need to use landscape on it.
The portrait on this is like landscape on an Iphone lol
Sent from my Samsung Note II.
That's true but I'm used to write in landscapemode cause i have big thumbs so it would be really nice if someone found a way

Try this: Boot your Nexus 7 2013 in landscape with the volume buttons facing down.

Do you see a graphics glitch?

Yes, just as the lock screen comes up, but then it seems fine. Strange.
BS...
u mean with the screen facing the ground? or the volume buttons near the ground, im confused, maybe a pic/vid would help
The launcher FC'd but after acknowledging the event everything is fine.
A video showing the issue being reproduced may be useful so we can identify it.
The second time I tried this I noticed when the glowing x was about to be replaced with the lock screen the x dropped to the bottom center of the display, as if the height on the display was two times the actual size.

Hold the tablet in a way that the micro USB port is on the left side.

Seems normal booting forme. Didn't try max. Brightness

I got the glitch, but it didn't really seem to affect anything on mine. It straightened itself out almost immediately and the normal lock screen came up.
I noticed this glitch today, but like the others said it doesn't really matter much since it corrects itself right away.
I wouldn't call it a "glitch", more like an annoyance, that happens to the Nexus 7(2012) as well. The bootanimation/logo is supposed to be portrait, but as the tablet start up it tries to move to landscape mode, but since it's a portrait image it moves that way, making it look like something's wrong but it's not. You can change the lockscreen to not rotate and stay in portrait or don't hold it landscape while it boots up, in that way you won't see it again.
Edit: Also happens to the brightness level, it's just the tablet starting up.

Why is the screen smaller than for instance Nexus 5X?

I am coming from a Nexus 5X device and just wondering about something. It seems that the display on my HTC 10 is conceived as smaller than my previous Nexus 5X despite the fact that the resolution is larger on the HTC 10, why is that? What am I missing?
I have a webpage I go to that has a table. On my Nexus 5X when I rotate to landscape, the table shows as as a whole table (with all the coloums in one row). But on the HTC 10 I get the same look on the table in landscape as in portrait, i.e. one column pr row.
Welcome to Quad HD buddy
So what you're saying is that this is just how it is? No workarounds?

What browser are you using, I don't have that issue, its scales just fine in landscape using Chrome and CM Browser.
I have tried 3 different browsers but the problem isn't scaling but that the server/client chooses "wrong" view in the responsive CSS...

what's the website?
I just tried Craigslist main page. It scales large in landscape and im able to pinch to see entire page( minus scrolling)
I just don't see what's the difference between this phone and my old Nexus 5X, if anything it should be there other way around.. The site is bane.kappif.no

I think the screen is bigger than my 5x because of no softkeys taking up room in screen.
Much Better i think
