Does anyone know why my 64 gig micro keeps doing this? It's formatted Fat32 but some folders will end up renamed and then empty.

If its generic its fake and doesn't really hold 64gb. Try testing the card using cmd in windows. Chkdisk I think. Use Google there's a tool

So i bought a 16 gb class 4 SD card for my galaxy s3. My old 4 gb SD card that I replaced worked great with no fail. This new card however, sometime unmount and remount. Sometime it lets me write to it other time I can only read what I already have on there from it. This is a problem because when I set the sd card as all my media defaults sometime message comes up saying it failed to write to sd card so it changed back to phone memory.....
Anyone know if this is a bad card or if there is anyway I can set things up to make the card work. Thanks ! I have 15 days to replace it.
edit- I tried to look for other related sd issue, but it seems to only be talking about rooted phones. I dont have root and this is my first android so I'm not comfortable going the rooting route just yet.
Have you reformatted the card?

Which do you recommend. Exfat/ fat32 or Ntfs??
I've also had this issue but my fone is rooted. I've had to reformat it at least once a week. I will go to save music or a picture to it and it will say the ext sd card isn't accessible and when I go check it with root explorer instead of folder titled music It will be £usic or something crazy. Then the card will start switching to r/o instead of r/w.
Edit: it meaning the external sd card.

I would go with exfat. And try to format it from the phone not the computer.
If you still have problems try fat32.

Does the card work fine in a pc? What brand is it? What brand is the old card?
I popped my sd card out of my s2 skyrocket and tried to put it in here and it says sd card damaged following another tutorial on xda on how to recover the data on it. It had all my family albums and such on it as well as my music and app data. Has anyone else had a issue with theres? Im using a 32gb class 10 made by patriot. Thanks for the tips if u leave some.

Have you tried to plug the phone in to your PC with the card mounted in the phone to see if it will mount as storage? You can also If you have an adapter microSD to SDcard and a sdcard slot on a PC or know someone who does try and read it from a PC. Have you tried to put it back in the skyrocket and see if you still get the error? GL

If you manage to copy all the files to your PC, try looking at this video. I had a similar issue when I switched from a Razr Maxx running a custom rom to a GS3. Might work for you...

Hey guys! I keep getting a message up top that says " you can safely remove sd card" and I can't get to my pics or music. Does anyone know what that is and how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

One other thing, just trying to clarify... I did load some music into my phone from the computer yesterday, via usb cable.

Try inserting your sd card into your PC to see if it can read it. You may need to reformat using FAT32.
It could also be a sign your sd card is on the fritz. There are a TON of threads that discuss SD card issues with the SGS3. (As a matter of fact, I had a Sandisk 32gb go belly up on me last month.)

I had a similar problem. I think you need to use Kies to transfer files from the PC to the Phone. If you want to transfer directly to the card, you need to remove it and put it in an SD Reader.
sounds like a bad sdcard, reformat the card if it is readable on the PC, if not then it's time for a new one. SdCards go by pretty quick these days it seems.
If it is just bad, and I reformat it, will it wipe everything on it?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yes, a reformat will wipe everything.

Especially on this phone.
I've been lucky, I'll be next probably.
What brands are you guys buying? I have two 16gb AmazonBasics Class 10s in 2 S3s, no issues yet. I've come to really like AmazonBasics stuff. I buy the HDMI cables all the time. Always the newest specs, almost always the cheapest.
Ok, something strange happened.. just for grins I went to drop box and exported some pics to my sd card and it shows in the gallery as sd card with those pics in the folder. However, when ya try to mount sd card, it still said safe to remove.

Spend the $15 to get a new card already. My 2c. Even if the card isn't the issue, it's a not a huge loss. Will need it eventually.

That's what happened to me with my Sandisk 32gb Class 4 card - I was able to get it to read/write/format on my PC but it wouldn't co-operate with my phone. After a few tries with the phone, I tried again with my PC but to no avail - it ended up going belly up. Ended up exchanging it for a new one.
However, I bought a Topram 16GB Class 6 card (recommended by another XDA member) and I'm trying that one out now to see how long that one lasts.
Does anyone know why my sd card might be corrupting the files in my note 2. Its corrupting music video and photos. Its getting extremely annoying. I formatted to exfat and fat32 the phone is about to go out the window

Try a different card first. See if it's the card or the phone. RMA the culprit.
Would I be correct in assuming you have a Sandisk Card?

I'm using a 64gb in my e980. Has to be formatted to fat32 however so it can be used in twrp or cwm.

not sure if i tried this one !

That's simular to what I used to format mine. I never had the 32gb issue so it could be a windows format thing. I used cmd to format mine to fat32 using a script I found. I have it on my laptop at home but I'm not sure if the instructions were in the zip. I'll post it later when I get home from work.

What 64GB cards are everyone using? I just picked up a Sandisk Ultra 64GB Class 10 UHS-1 card and it won't work with my e980. Just curious if anyone else has used this or a similar card. Could it be my phone? I even used LG Flashtools to return to stock with no luck...
Using the same exact card. You need to plug it into your computer and format it to fat32. Natively, windows doesn't support fat32 on anything above 32gb but there are programs out there that do it.
This works perfectly.
