This maybe a stupid question but: Is it safe to flash this on a takju in USA? I am stock 4.2.2 with locked bootloader not rooted?
Thank you.
Flashed my GNex yesterday froh Takju to Yakju... But Sunbeam Live Wallpaper crash all the time.
Is it working on Takju ROM?

Yeah it's safe to flash it's not a regional thing. Yakju is international from the play store, Takju is domestic from the play store.
It is a bit easier to flash the ota with a custom recovery, at least I think it is lol.

Why is everyone so infatuated with that live wallpaper? I hear it's buggy, since it was designed for the N4 and One.

Haha yeah I heard some people snagged 4.0.3 when it first came out in December but it's been pulled for ages now! I might just flash a custom ROM but I'm new to Android so I'm not that confident

What apps do you have running? Battery Monitor Widget caused periodic reboots (not blaming the dev, an app should never cause a reboot in Android, in theory at least) when I was on 4.0.2. Once I uninstalled it, the reboots stopped.
4.0.2 is buggy. Full stop. Look at your apps that run in the backround and uninstall any suspicious ones and see if that fixes your problem. You can reinstall when you get the OTA. 4.0.4 is rock solid, no reboots, even when I reinstalled Battery Monitor Widget.

That was for the GSM/HSPA Nexus S. The latest official OTA for the Galaxy Nexus is 4.0.2 Build ICL53F.
When my new Galaxy Nexus arrives, how can I find out if it needs a takju or Yakju update?!
Just want to download and prepare everything in advance...
Where did you get it from? Takju phones are only available on the Google Play store. Other variations are sold overseas. You can download the "official GN update" app (name might be a little off) from the play store and it will tell you which version you have.

tajku is with Google wallet, so if you don't need it, you can go either way.
Only way you know that before hand is if other people who bought from same place tells you
Where did you buy it from??
considering you're apparently from Holland you'll need to do this:

I ordered it from a site google.nl is linking to. However I received an email from them today that my order is delayed since the device is in backorder at their supllier...so I can only wait and hope this isn't going to take week(s) :crying:
Western European devices are mostly yakju!

Download this app from the Play Store to check the version of your device: GN Official Update Checker
Use Maps
you can find out if it's yakju or takju by simply
*going into the maps app
*settings
*about
the version should be under device
eg
samsung yakjuxw
Unless you have google wallet, you have yakju. Yakjus are far more common and seem to get the updates a tiny bit earlier in the rollouts.
with CM10 i have yakju and with AOKP i have takju? strange no?
And with the stock rom i had yakju too. I think this yakju/takju thingy doesn't matter when using custom roms, am i right?
you can get you product name (takju yakju etc) by:
Code:
adb shell getprop ro.product.name
adb.exe is included in the Android SDK.
there are just different software profiles for Galaxy Nexus the hardware profile however is the same - 'maguro'.
I used to be on yakjuxw but flashed takju as it updates faster.
basically
takju = yakju + google wallet.
takju & yakju are both GSM/HSPA+
takju & yakju are distributed by Google
yakjuXX are distributed by Samsung
actually this name you can change it anytime from /system/build.prop.
so, yes it does not matter much

If you want to know how to flash it go to the Galaxy Nexus forum and you'll find a guide. It's very complete and well written so you shouldn't have too much trouble flashing the update on your phone. (or you could wait for a few days and hopefully you'll get the update via OTA, I'm sure it will arrive soon... well if you are on yakju anyway)

4.2 was released on Takju first and Yakju got it about a week later. They get the updates at about the same time anyway as they are both updated by Google.
People if i got yakjuXX will i be able to use fastboot & flash cyanogenmod stable for "maguro"?
Yakju got android 4.3 before takju, so yakju is better.

Normally takju gets updates first but that all changed with 4.3, yakju got 4.3 update before takju, so I'm guessing Google changed their minds an made yakju their first choice from now on with receiving updates first.
When maguro was released, there was only yakju. But then again, there's no real difference between the two.
a maguro sent this.
I located in hong kong and bought an imported Nexus, which country does my phone "belongs to"?

That means you're getting OTA via Samsung, not Google. What I recommend you to do is use Efrant's guide to convert from what you have to yakju or takju. It only takes few minutes... Make sure that you got everything backed up, since the process includes you wiping EVERYTHING.
But when I connect my Nexus to kies it keep saying "connecting", tried on two different computers.
BTW, am I running the right firmware?
Well first of all, Gnex doesn't use Kies... You need to download the drivers yourself
And what do you mean by right variant?
Samsung use kies right? Where can I get the driver?
I think I am using Verizon firmware?
Are you with Verizon? If not, the answer is no.
Only device with Samsung Touchwiz uses it. Gnex is a PURE ANDROID. Without any brand bloatware. That is why it doesn't have Kies.
Verizon variant is mysid and if you have GSM Gnex and you can text, call and etc, you don't have Verizon variant. You don't need to worry about that.
You can get the driver and how to install it from this post
according on the web, IMM76K seems to be a Verizon firmware?
That is Verizon Android 4.0.4 version (I think). Mysid is like a "codename" for all Verizon ROMs. For example, CM10 for GSM Nexus is either takju or yakju, but CM10 for Verizon will be mysid. Hope that answers your question
how can i update to 4.1.1?

I want to update instead of flashing the phone to keep my data. Check this page, it says at the bottom that my device "was never offered as an over-the-air update"?

OP: If you don't want to convert to yakju or takju, you just need to wait. From what I know, your variant doesn't have the Jelly Bean OTA yet (Blame Samsung). I personally would just convert it and get it over with. That's what I did, and I am very happy with my decision. Photos and musics and the moved to your computer and apps+data can be backed up by following this guide
I thank you for your help. Here are my last questions:
How to tell if my phone is an import and find out where it is from?
BTW I still can't update (not flash) to 4.1.1
Well the variant can tell you if it's an import. For example, you have yakjuzs is a China variant, so it is an import. If you had takju, it will be from US. If yakjuux, Canadian. Something like that.
Ok i think mine is not an import then, thank you very much!

There are ways to unlock the GN without wiping data (it involves using an exploit rather than "fastboot oem unlock").
ezekeel's app has such a method.
However: I am not familiar with the Verizon GN that you say you have. I can't say for sure the app will work with it. You can ask around in his thread. There may also be other ways I'm not aware of.
I am from India and I have yakjuxw galaxy nexus.
Just now i read that only takju and yakju will recieve direct OTA update from google.
I am planning to change my galaxy nexus from yakjuxw to takju(or yakju).
I just have two question,
1. Will i face any problem if i change from yakjuxw to takju or yakju, (problem like certain things not working, batter problem, network not detected etc...)
2. Should i change to takju or yakju. Which one recommended.
There are no issues changing between the two. As far as which is better? They are essentially the same with the one difference being that I believe takju phones receive updates quicker.

Why not yakju?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
it's simple... warranty reason
Huh? You get warranty if you are running a stock firmware and your bootloader is locked with Nexus devices. Just flash yakju and lock your bootloader. The only firmwares available for download are yakju and takju, others are distributed by Samsung and carriers, so you won't be able to get them easily.

Well I've found a 4.0.1 yakjuxw here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625700

well.. there was a full rom here somewhere of 4.0.1 which I immediately installed.. updated up to 4.2.2 so it's ok
