Sprint LG Optimus G
This a list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Q1: How to Root and Unlock bootloader.
There is a Guide
Q2: FreeGee, Unlocking, Bootloader, Freezing, Stuck on LG/4GLTE screen problems?
If FreeGee for some reason doesn't work, and/or softbricks, you have three options:
1. Use the "mako" unlock. This is now the preferred method. Mako unlock will show a "Google" logo on bootup. The other unlock shows the LG logo, but has potential to softbrick.
2. If you have LGNPST you can use teeny bins
Need info on LGNPST or need it? Here In "Additional Section".
Or in the irc. Here
3. LGFlashTool - Unbricking and Firmware flashing
This is a new option. (Repair Center Thorough) It seems to only work if your bootloader is locked. (It will show **971 which is not our model)
If you're stuck at the "4GLTE" screen: To get to stock recovery - Power off phone. You need to hold power button for about 20 sec to get it to turn off. Then press and hold vol down+power - The LG logo will come on, then the capacitive lights. Immediately let go when the capacitive lights turn on. It takes a few seconds to work. Data wipe/Factory reset. Reboot.
If you're stuck at the "LG" screen, Or the LG screen flashes, then goes black:
Make sure you are powering off the phone by pressing and holding the "Power" button for at least 20+ seconds, then release.
Press vol up+power should get you into Fastboot.
And if you happen to reboot into STOCK recovery and the power button will not select, use the "menu" button on the capacitive lights (far right when holding it) to get it to accept your commands.
LGNPST does not like USB 3.0 ports. Use USB 2.0 ports.
If you can get into download mode, use LGNPST. Use the ZVB/ZVC bin file.
If you can get into recovery, flash a ROM
You might have to do a battery pull
You will need a Torx T4 for the bottom screws, and a 00 Philips for the battery connector. Just be very delicate, especially when disconnecting the terminal.
If you get the Secure booting error. You have no recovery installed. Or you removed apps without being unlocked. You'll need to use LGNPST to fix it.
You can also go Here for more help. ie ADB Sideload
If all else fails, go to the IRC.

Q3: If your battery is dead, stuck in a bootloop, and won't boot unless on a charger.
Plug your phone in for a couple hours with a wall charger. If it stays off, great. If not, press and hold the power button for 20+ sec. That will turn it off. Plugged or plugged in, not sure which. Try both.
After a couple hours take it off the charger and boot into recovery. Vol down+ power release when capacitive lights come on. This should get you into "Stock" recovery. Which is what you should have if unrooted.
Then use power button to go down, and "factory reset". Use the capacitive menu key, far right key, to activate the reset. It should boot up. If not, turn it off 20+sec and charge it a couple more hours. Unplug it, then turn it on.
Q4: Lack of memory/SD space?
On stock based ROM's, delete "logcat" in internal SD.
On CM based ROM's, look in /mnt/shell/emulated/0 for "logcat" and delete.
Q5: "0" folder showing up on SD? "TWRP does not see files"
If going between CM Roms and Stock roms, keep both. Copy root to "0" folder. Easiest way
Q6: Brightness won't increase? Or says too hot?
Problem with LG. Deal with it.
Here's some info on it.
Q7: Demigod crash/Kernel crash?
Reboot, all is well. LG Problem.
Here's some info on it.
Q8: Stock Wifi tethering apps.
With ZVB and ZVC Stock it'll only work 1 per reboot. Meaning either Wifi, OR Wifi tether per reboot. Sometimes it'll require 2 reboots as Wifi will turn itself on two times. Check this before using Wifi tether.
I use "Wireless Tether for Root Users".
Settings are: Generic ICS/JB (Wlan0), Wifi encryption checked. No other settings changed.
There is also a TrevEmod version in these forums. I don't know those setting for sure.
Q9: CM and AOSP issues.
4.4 To install KK Roms, you will need the modded TWRP or CWM recoveries. Those can be found Here
To restore any nandroid ROM backups, you need to use the recovery the backup was made with. ( If you backed up using 2.5.0.0 then restore with it. If you're using the KK 2.6.3.0, it will not restore a 2.5.0.0 backup.
4.2 has Camera issues. Read in the thread you are using for the fix.
4.3 has the Camera fixed.
Q10: When using JB, Stockish or CM based ROM's, you MUST use the ZVB/ZVC radio/modem.
In stock it's 1690. In CM its 10646
Here
Here
Q11: I've lost EFS/data/phone service
Hopefully you'll be able to fix it by updating Profile/PRL. Settings>System Updates
To update profile/PRL you need to be on a stock ROM. So if you are running a CM based ROM, You will need to Flash/Restore a Stock based ROM, update profile/PRL, then go back to your CM ROM that you backed up in TWRP. Hopefully.
If you've lost your EFS, then you better hope you've backed it up in TWRP, Freegee, or autoprimes-Create flashable zip for EFS. Which is this file
If you didn't heed all the warnings posted all over, then you'll need to go Here for starters. This has all the information to help you, but be warned that it can be a complex fix.
Q12: Can't get GPS lock on CM based ROM's
For this, you will need to go back to Stock Based ROM also
If you are running a CM based ROM: Flash/Restore a Stock based ROM, get a GPS lock, then restore, or flash back to CM ROM.
Another new option is to Flash/restore your EFS. Seems to be working well. Here
Q13: How to force getting ZVC update notice / Disable update nag screen. How to Manually update to ZVC
Force Update - Go to Settings>Apps>All>Google services framework - clear data. Then go to Settings>System Updates - and update profile/Prl, Update LG Software.
Disable nag screen - Edit the build.prop - theres 3 or 4 references to ZVB. Change them to ZVC
To manually update to ZVC. Here
A new way to update. Uses Update.zip Here

OK. Well, this thread has problems, with links already. Follow the links to learn more about how to fix and/or understand them better. Believe it or not, it's about as English as it gets. The Rooting Guide is more of a walkthrough style, and may help you better.

[ROM][SPRINT] Zypher v1 - Suspended

3/3/2011 - I've been away for several weeks, sorry about that. I've also moved on and will be futzing with my shiny new Xoom. I will not be working on Tab projects for the immediate future, it at all.
Been fun
There seems to be a genuine lack of activity on the Sprint version of the Tab. Hopefully this will allow folks to start making themes and ROM's for the Sprint flavor of the tablet.
This package was created via the "Rotobackup" Method pioneered by Rotohammer and maniac3389.
As far as I can tell, I'm the only one who has done this on the Sprint-flavor of the Tab, so this is all beta and VERY RISKY. I do not recommend using this unless you are VERY familiar with flashing Android devices.
NOTE: This is ALMOST STOCK. The Rotobackup process did not dump the modem.bin file properly. To address this, I used the modem from the Epic 4G (SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL). This modem effectively disables GPS. There is no known fix yet.
Updates:
12/13/2010 - Looks like the package borks GPS. You cannot acquire satellites after flashing.
12/29/2010 - GPS is still broke if you use the package containing the modem. Looks like we will need to wait until an update is released. Feel free to keep troubleshooting the issue, I'll update the OP if somebody figures it out.
12/29/2010 - Uploaded package WITHOUT the modem
12/29/2010 - Introduced Zypher, a fully deodexed updater.
WARNING!!! YOU CAN BRICK YOUR DEVICE VERY EASILY.
THESE ARE FOR SPRINT VERSIONS OF THE TAB.
Instructions:
Backup your settings with Titanium Backup
Do a factory reset: Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
Turn on USB debugging: Settings>Applications>Development>USB debugging
Extract the RAR archive
Open "Odin3 v1.31.exe"
Reboot into Download Mode (adb reboot download)
Do not check Re-Partition option
Click PIT, select pit.pit
Click PDA, Select .tar file
Click Start
Downloads
Download 1 - Stock, no modem - Sprint Only! Use this if you want to get back to stock (rooted). ALL USERS SHOULD TRY THIS PACKAGE FIRST! If you still have problems, then you need to use the modem package which kills GPS (Download 2).
Download 2 - Stock, with modem - Sprint Only! Includes modem from Epic 4G - Only use if your Tab will not boot, this package will kill GPS
THERE IS NO WAY TO GET THE STOCK MODEM BACK AFTER YOU FLASH!!
Download Zypher v1 - Sprint Only! Deodexed\zipaligned. I recommend running a factory reset before applying the package. Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
Zypher Details:
Based off DJ30
Deodexed and zip aligned
Removed startup/shutdown sounds
Added Busybox installer
Added Titanium Backup
Added Z4Root
Added AD-Free hosts file
To do list:
Work in the full screen fix (via Spareparts)
Replace launcher with LauncherPro
Theme everything
Nice work, not that Sprint would allow it, but did this enable dialer functions since it is using an alternate modem file?
Awesome, thanks!
Now who's got a busted Tab to try this on!
Not sure if this is any help, but here's a system dump someone posted....
http://forum.androidcentral.com/galaxy-tab/44323-us-galaxy-tab-sprint-system-dump.html
Dunno. There is no dialer installed and it gives the standard engrish statement "Cannot make or take a call using Galaxy Tab"
I did some comparisons between the sprint tab and the epic, and the modems are identical. I just flashed this and it worked flawlessly.
Thanks again man I appreciate it. You have ressurected my tab.
Wow, maybe I can finally root

Excellent, glad it worked for you.
Nevermind.
I am going to try this now... I had terminal emulator crash on me and it messed up the filesystem or something. My Sprint Galaxy Tablet just says "Samsung" and glows after the intro animation.
I did manage to get the tablet into downloading mode by:
1) turning tablet off
2) holding Volume UP key and power key at the same time until it turns on
and I get little android man with a shovel that says "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!"
wish me luck
Why dont you just wipe it and see if that works first?

how would I do that? It won't actually boot up.. Just shows the samsung into screen and says on a screen that has samsung glowing. It will blink after a while and vibrate, then go back to glowing at me.
HOLY CRAP that worked!!!!! I was just about to give up! Notice the many hours between my last post and now.. (6:50am now LOL)
I had to do some other things not outlined in this thread to get my computer to see the Galaxy Tablet in the Device Manager. Basically I tried these things, (try them all if you have trouble, I'm not sure what or which actually worked):
tried to wipe from boot up (turn off, hold volume up and power until it turns on and release buttons)
that didn't work
install Kies and Samsung(android) SDK and JDK (java developer kit)
that didn't seem to work
install Samsung PC Studio 7
ah hah! I see you there in the device manager now!
power tablet off and get to download menu (hold volume down and power until you see the android holding a shovel at the download menu)
Load up Odin, YAY It connects and detects the COM!!
Select the PIT and TAR, start, it downloads and reboots and tab loaded right up!!
Best of all I think it also got rid of the Sprint Activation nag notice screen. It hasn't popped up yet and it has been a good 10 min or so! That would be a nice bonus
You saved me so much time and $$ thanks a TON!!
((side note, Odin loads up and displays GT-1000 not my SPH-P100... I edited my odin.ini to reflect the correct model. not a big deal at all, but I was getting confused at first as to why Odin was saying wrong model, thinking it was doing a detection when it was really just blindly echoing info from the ini file))
Good stuff.
You'd think Sprint would want to leak the firmware to keep people from exchanging/RMA'ing devices. One thing is certain with Android, people will hack the hell out of it.
My bad on the label. The top title in Odin is just that, a title. It doesn't doesn't affect the reload process at all. I'd change it, but uploading another 200MB file isn't on my list of activities today

I want to add that you might need to update your profile after running this.
What do you mean?
THANK YOU!
Same thing happened to me this morning as ManaKill described...I had terminal emulator crash on me and it messed up the filesystem or something. My Sprint Galaxy Tablet endlessly glowed "Samsung" after the intro animation - thought I was DONE. Tried wiping but no go. I followed ZoinksS2K directions and it worked flawlessly just as infamousjax described. Thank you!!! No telling how many Tabs have been ressurected thanks to this post.
Have you guys been able to get a gps lock since doing this? I can't get one worth ****.

[Official] ICS rom for captivate glide release Sep 7

Hey guys the official rom is out
http://blogs.att.net/consumerblog/story/a7783602
you have to update your device over kies.
Cheers
Got the message just now
" AT&T Free Msg: Samsung Captivate Glide upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is now available! The OS update supports enhanced performance, user interface and other device improvements. Open the link from your PC (not your phone), and follow the instructions: www.samsung.com/us/attcaptivateglide/update "

page was working about an hour and now page not found. Maybe they pulled the update? I haven't tried it yet because of the keyboard backlight issue from other posts...and I have no desire to do any rooting/CWM stuff.
Page worked for me just now. It basically just says download kies and let it upgrade.
Does the official rom have the same version number as the leaked one?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
strange now the page works again...has anyone applied the official ICS with AT&T yet? wondering if the backlight issue is resolved.
There are no bugs, samsung has fixed it all
Does the official version have CarrierIQ?
Nevermind.

No backlight on my wife's Glide... She's pissed...
Then root and install the zip
I actually passed on this phone because I was worried it might not get ICS. I'm glad it did all the same. I miss having a hard keyboard.

thanks for the save!!!! I was downloading the update when I saw your post. my wife would have been VERY upset as well. good luck.
I don't want to mess with rooting, CWM and all that stuff on the wife's phone just to get back a basic function. Doing all of those things to get new functions...maybe.

Really, it's super-easy to install the backlight fix, and you don't even have to root or muck around all that much. You flash CWM in odin, which takes about 30 seconds, and then boot into CWM and flash a single zip file, which should take at most a minute including the reboot time. Tada, keyboard light is fixed.

That requires root access and messing with stock recovery right? Although it can be done quickly, it could mess up any future official ICS update...you know, an official build that has the backlight fix + other fixes. I'd rather not deal with unrooting, getting stock recovery back on, and still have a risk of a soft brick....all for a backlight fix. For my scenario ICS can wait or never be applied on the glide. My wife doesn't care .

It actually doesn't require root access, just a custom recovery, which is flashed from the PC. You can then replace it with a stock recovery, if you prefer.

I made a walkthrough for the entire leak here, but I'll snip it down and just assume you're running some form of ICS now that's completely stock:
bakageta said:
To fix the keyboard backlight bug, you'll need the following:
Odin 1.85
Clockworkmod Recovery
The Keyboard Backlight fix The one labeled LH2 is for the official, the one labeled CWM is for the leak. If you're not sure what you're on, go to About Phone, and check the Baseband Version, if it ends in LH2 you're on the official, if it ends in LG9 it's the leak.
Optionally, SuperUser 3.2 RC3 if you'd like root.
First, make sure you have Kies installed, so that you have the correct USB drivers. Download the 4.0.4 .exe file from here. Power off your phone, hold Volume Up and Power to turn it back on. Keep holding them until you get a screen warning you about custom software, and release, then press volume up again to enter download mode. Hook the phone up to your pc and run Odin 1.85. Uncheck "F. Reset Time" and make sure that the only box checked is Auto Reboot, you shouldn't need to change anything else. Click on the PDA button, and load the clockworkmod .md5 file you downloaded, then press the start button and wait for the device to reboot.
This time you'll reboot into recovery. Power the phone off, hold the volume down and power button to turn the phone one. Keep holding them until you see text about entering recovery in the top left, and release. Use the volume keys to navigate and power to select, and go to Install zip from sdcard. Select the keyboard backlight fix zip. Once that's finished, if you'd like to be rooted, repeat the process to flash a zip, and this time select Choose zip from sdcard, selecting the superuser zip you downloaded earlier. Select Yes, and wait for superuser to flash. If you plan on keeping Clockwork Mod Recovery, you should make a backup now. To do so, select Backup and restore, and backup. This will take a bit, just be patient. When you're finished, select reboot system now, and you should be set.
From here, if you rooted you can install something like Titanium Backup, which will use root access to let you remove the various AT&T bloatware.

Yeah backlight isn't working sorry, someone on a blog had said so. Very unprofessional of samsung. A rom cooked with cm9 willl have to include the backlight fix

Cool, thanks for the info. Good to know root is not required. I'll still hold off on the update but I'm sure others will apply ICS+backlight fix.
I updated last night, and I can report that after ending any call the phone app reports a hard stop rather than just going away, and that resets your cell connection. And I imagine the keyboard backlight will be fixed very soon. But did these issues exist on the leaked rom in its first release and then programmers modified to get them back?

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions
T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy SIII SGH-T999
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How do I root this thing? Here are the two most popular methods:root66....ToolKit. Refer to the threads for instructions.
Q2: How to I enter Download Mode and Recovery?Make sure your phone is unplugged and powered off.
Download Mode: Hold Volume down, home and power until you see the green dude.
Recovery: Hold Volume up, home and power. Once your phone vibrates, let go of just the power button.
Q3: What is this 'Flash Counter' everybody is talking about?Your phone's flash counter is triggered when it detects custom firmwares. This is Samsung's way of knowing that you have modded your device. But thanks to the awesome people at XDA, there are ways around this. Refer to This Thread.
Q4: Why does my phone sit at the Samsung logo after I flashed a ROM?The most common cause of this is not properly wiping your device prior to flashing. It can also be caused from flashing a mod that won't work with your current setup. But whatever the reason was, it can be fixed by wiping data, cache, and dalvik cache in recovery.
Q5: Why is my phone restarting itself? And why does my screen turn on by itself? There have been numerous reports of faulty power buttons causing this to happen. More than likely this is your issue, but it wouldn't hurt to Odin back to stock and see if the issue is resolved.
Q6: Can I accept an OTA update even though my phone is rooted? The only way you can accept an OTA update if you are rooted, is if you have stock recovery and your device status is "normal." If those two things apply to you, then search for the app called "OTA Root Keeper." If you cannot accept the OTA, refer to the root66 thread linked to in Q1.
Q7: Why do I need to wipe my data every time I flash a ROM?This is to ensure that nothing is left over from your previous ROM that will interfere (cause issues) with the new ROM. It is always best to fully wipe between ROM's. It will take a lot less time to set up your phone than it will to troubleshoot issues, then have to wipe anyways.
Q8: What is the best ROM/Kernel/Modem for this phone?Nobody can answer this question for you, so please refrain from asking it. Each person has their own personal preferences and wants/needs. No phones are created equal, therefore one person might have an issue whereas the next person does not. The best thing to do is read the OP of each thread to see which one has the features you want, read the last 10 or so pages of the thread to see how things are going, then TRY IT! Here is a good starting point.
Q9: Why is my battery dying so fast? There are many factors that play into this. First of all, if you just flashed a ROM, give it 2-3 charge cycles before judging battery life as it can take a while to settle. The next step is to download a battery monitoring app, such as GSam Battery Monitor, to see exactly what is draining your battery. Refer to this thread for tips on how to extend battery life.
Q10: People have been complaining that they hear echoing when talking to me on the phone, why?Go into your call settings and enable noise reduction. If that does not help, refer to the threads for your current ROM and/or kernel as it may be a known issue.
Q11: How do I return my phone to 100% stock unrooted, with a zero flash counter?Refer to this thread.
Q12: What is ADB and how do I use it?
[GUIDE] ADB Workshop and Guide for everyone
Q13: Why don't I have signal? Why is my IMEI gone?Refer to this thread to fix your IMEI and restore 4G. Be sure to follow ALL steps.
Q14: When will this phone receive an update? What about a new phone coming out?Find discussion on these topics here and here.
Q15: I have searched everywhere and still can't find an answer to my question..?Have you really searched everywhere? Google? Asked in the thread of which your question pertains to? Read the stickies? If you have honestly spent more than 5-10 minutes searching for an answer, post a new thread in the q&a section.

For sure! It will always be an incomplete project as things change & new things come out. Shoot me a PM if you would like to help expand the OP.
This is key. It should be utilized by everyone in the threads. This is also not exclusive to the T999 section. Well the material is exclusive but the format will be across many different devices and sections.
As mt3g said it will never be complete, but as long as Users help and guide, we can hopefully reduce the amount of redundant threads popping up.

Regarding recovery mode... I think this is specific to d2tmo... But when doing the three button combo to get to recovery, you hold volume up, home, and power... UNTIL THE DEVICE VIBRATES, then you RELEASE THE POWER BUTTON ONLY. When the sgs3 splash screen appears, you can release the other two buttons. It works EVERY time

You can also let go of all buttons and it works the same. I say it can take a couple of tries so users don't automatically post a new thread when it doesn't work the first time.
And I believe the phone only vibrates if you're doing it while powered on.
I threw up a bunch of tags on this thing this morning. Hopefully when they search or try to start a new thread, this thread will pop up as a suggestion. Bout to do that same thing to mt3g's Illusion thread.
Thanks for this.

99% of the time random or constant reboots are generally caused by a corrupted download of a rom or a dirty flash.
So download the rom again and make sure you do a clean flash.
Always do a factory reset-format system-wipe cache-wipe dalvik cache in recovery before flashing any rom.
After doing this your phone should not have a reboot issue.
If it still has a reboot issue then that means you need to Odin flash a stock rooted firmware.
Here is the link to the firmware in case you need it: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556426451
Here is the link for Odin in case you do not have it: http://d-h.st/Q14
Good Luck!
rooted unrooted then tried rooting verizon s3 but failed
I rooted and it worked successfully. I unrooted since battery life and network were slow. so I tried rooting again but when its finished there is no superuser doesn't show up. the rooting is not succesful.
Have a few random questions....running carbon 1.6 on t999 (d2tmo)
1) is kt747 compatible with carbon 1.6 on tmo?
2) what is all included in "android system" and what about that causes it to waste so much time in backup/restore?

If the phone is really unlocked, flashing a ROM will not re-lock it.

[Q] New Software Update for T-Mobile LG G3 D85110m

I can't for the life of me find any sort of documentation for this update, Nothing is listed on T-Mobile's website and I cant find any immediate changes in the UI. The only info I can find about the tmo G3 is that it should be at D85110c. Anyone else get this D85110m update?
I just installed this update but can't find anything about it either.
Here's a screenshot of the build number and the baseband, in case that changed too.
someone help please. I accidentally clicked update even though I was rooted. Now when I try to enter download mode, it goes straight to TWRP and when I turn off my phone and then press the volume up button as it's turning off, it shows a screen saying firmware update but the percentage bar doesn't move. HELP
Did this update lock me in custom recovery?
Late yesterday (20140909) I got a status bar notification that a T-Mobile Software Update had been downloaded, and that I should click on it to update. I left it alone for some hours but then, used to a couple of years of easy Cyanogenmod updates (I'm rooted stock on this phone), I went ahead and clicked on the update. It threw me into TRWP and just sat there. I went looking for the download, to update manually from there, and couldn't find it. Now I can't get the phone to boot to system, just the recovery. After a few attempts, I tried restoring a five week old backup, but it still dumps me in recovery. Can't seem to get out of it. I can't even verify that this is the same update you guys are talking about (can't get to settings), although the timing is right. What can I do from here?

Rooted stock

With this update, I can launch camera app from the lock screen.

I've gotten what appears to be this update but I am rooted and TWRP so I know I cant select it to install like a few other users have done. Is there anyway to remove this update from the notification bar or maybe download it and apply through TWRP... I thought I turned off the call home feature when I bought the device and rooted a few months ago...

Done... Any chance this decide to update on its own without any human intervention?? I dont have time to deal with fixing the phone if it does install and then fails because of TWRP right now...
I'm under the impression that human intervention is necessary for the update to apply itself on the phone. You don't chose yes it shouldn't load.
I think there is a battery life improvement.
tmo 10m update discussion is already going on in the tmo g3 general section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/update-t2872755/post55357425

You can open the terminal emulator in TWRP and run "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota". That might help. Helped with the LG G2 all the time.
I'm on Sprint. I think I can speak for everyone with a locked bootloader that we wish we had this problem. Haha. You just need stock recovery installed probably.
try another command

I had the same problem and using these two commands in TWRP terminal emulator should work (as stated above). It will give you a 'no space' error, but that is expected. After that the phone should boot back to normal.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc
Be sure to not make any typos - apparently you can completely mess up your device. It took me quite a while to find out about the misc command - just the fota one didn't do it for me...
I got the OTA yesterday.
I traded in my S4 on the jump program yesterday, (9.16.14), and got an LG G3. When I got home I noticed that an update was downloaded and ready to install and since I had barely got it and it wasn't rooted or anything I decided what the heck. I applied the update and my version is now 110m and like the other guy said there is a "camera slider" on the lockscreen that I don't think was there before. But I have had this phone for less that 24 hours so maybe I'm wrong.

There is more and more new users coming to G3 and most of them have the same questions. This is a small FAQ about most frequent questions. I will update FAQ from time to time with new questions.
Q1: How many models are outhere?
Many. HERE is the list so check here.
Q2: How do I make an EFS and MODEM backup?
In recovery. Flash TWRP recovery and choose EFS in backup. I would suggest you to make EFS backup before you do anything on the phone.
Or use this method and make flashable EFS backup.
Q3: How do I root my phone?
There are few methods. Choose one that is for your variant. Purple Drake, Stump Root, IOroot.
Check this spreadsheet to see with what tool you can root your model.
Q4: How do I flash custom recovery?
Download recovery from HERE and flash it with FLASHIFY APP.
Or use ADB command explained HERE.
Besides mentioned recovery you have philz with OG Clockworkmod and TWRP with modem support.Q5: Where can I find stock firmware image?
You can find it HERE. Just type your IMEI.
Or HERE thanks to hyelton.Q6: How do I unroot my phone?
Just flash the stock firmware. Follow THIS GUIDE.
Q7: How do I enter recovery mode?
Power off the phone. Press Volume down and power button. When you see LG logo, keep holding Volume Down, release Power and quickly press it again.
You will be asked to questions and choose YES on them (do not worry, factory reset will not happen) and congrats, you are in recovery.
Q8: What ROM should I download?
Check index HERE. Thanks benkxda.
Q9: How do I install a certain ROM?
Make sure it is for your model, download it, place it on phone storage, boot into recovery, do a nandroid backup and then wipe the system. And least press install and choose ROM.
Q10: I am on rooted/stock Lollipop. How do I get back to Kitkat?
If you have nandroid backup just flash nandroid backup. Or flash stock firmware and see number 6. question.Q11: Can I convert one model to another (example: D852 to D855)?
NO! Do not try to do that.
Q12: My IMEI disappeared. What should I do?
Restore EFS backup. It is explained HERE.
Q13: Where is Flashlight on stock ROM?
There isn't one. Use PowerToggles or some other toggle app.
Q14: How to get rid of battery fully charged notification?
See my trick HERE.
Q15: How to root stock Lollipop?
You can't. You will have to revert to stock firmware, root the phone and flash some prerooted Lollipop ROM.
EDIT: We have a method now. Method is not that easy: New Root Method for LG Devices, but there is one click method for all variants..
Q16: How do I enter Download mode?
Power off the phone. Plug the USB cabel and press and hold Volume Up. Download mode will appear.
Q17: Can I get small navigation bar on Lollipop?
Yes you can. Check HERE.
Q18: Can I still receive and install an OTA on my rooted device?
If you are on stock ROM there is a chance you will get notification about update but you will not be able to install it successfully. To install it you will have to unroot the device and go back to fully stock.Q19: My PC won't connect to the phone by USB, what do I do?
Make sure you have the correct drivers installed and that USB Debugging is enabled. And always try other ports on your PC.Q20: My battery is draining fast. What should I do?
Monitor your battery with Gsam Battery Monitor or BetterBatteryStats and Wakelock Detector to find out what is draining your battery. After you find out uninstall or freeze that app/process.Q21: How to access camera when screen is off?
Press and hold volume down button (works on stock ROMs only).

Basically when kernel can not boot properly or crashes during it. It can happen due to hardware fault or bad software.
I believe this is the most easier way to explain.
different version and network
Hi. I take it any question mean just that. Here goes. I have posted a thred for this but no replies.
Here in the UK we only get the 2 gig version. I want a 3 gig version from out the UK. What lg g3 32gb 3 gig would work in the UK from out of the UK? I want it the same as the UK version in every way except more ram. Little bloatware would be nice also.
There are so many lg versions it's left me stuck. I'm on ee network.
Kind regards rick

You can get 32GB version in UK also. For example you can get it from Mobicity.
Here it is: LG G3 32GB
They even have dual sim version.
You can always also go on Ebay.co.uk.
You need D855 version. That is international version.
Oh I didn't know that. That's great thanks!!

Android Noob Question
I am pretty much an Android Newbie. I had a nook Color that I put CM7 on a long time ago but never really used it for anything (still have it collecting dust). I have my first Android Phone (LG G3) and now Im really trying to get into the mix of things. But as a newb I have a handful of questions that probably could be answered pretty quickly. So here goes ...
1) Power on delay - sometimes when I tried to power on the phone it seems like I have to press for 5 seconds other times 10 or so. Is that normal?
2) Flashlight? - I didnt see a flashlight in by default. There are some one the store but I read somewhere that there was an LG one? Can someone point me to that?
3) Is there an App/shortcut to do multiple things (such as for getting into the car - disable wifi/enable bluetooth - open Waze - Open music app)
4) Similar to (3) How can I make a shortcut icon to a particular webpage?
5) How about a shortcut to put the phone to sleep without having to take it out of the dock to press the button on the back.
Thanks for any answers you can provide.

Hi!
1. It is not normal I would say. To me, it is always the same, pretty short.
2. You will have to go for some 3rd party app to use phone as flashlight. For example this one, QSlide Torch. But most of custom ROMs have that feature, or it can be added with Xposed. Or Power Toggles.
3. There is, it is Tasker. One of the most powerful apps.
4. Would not know with built in browser because I do not use t, but for example with Dolphin Browser you can make webpage shortcut icon on your screen.
5. You mean normal locked state (deep sleep)? Double tap anywhere on the screen to unlock, and same to lock it, just double tap on homescreen (if you use 3rd party launcher press twice on status bar to lock it).
I had stopped feeling like a newbie until I started looking for my next upgrade. I'm on a Galaxy S3, and rooting/flashing was a snap. I rooted it with towelroot, downloaded CWM from the app, did my nandroid, and then it was on.
I'm on Sprint, so in a few weeks I'll be grabbing the ls990. I've been reading up on the limited choice of good devices Sprint offers, and none of them are established enough to root and flash as easy as it was with my S3. As much as I look, it keeps coming back to the G3 for me, so that's what I'm getting.
Things have been changing so fast over the past month, I've lost track of what I'll need to do once I get it after December 1st. If there aren't any major changes in the next 10 days, what will I need to do when I get my device? I only have experience with CWM, but it doesn't look like that's an option yet. I guess I need help knowing what to do in what order.
I'm confused about Stump Root. Do you get TWRP when you go through that process? Once I have root and recovery, do I create a nandroid the same way, by just doing a backup?
When all that's done and I flash a rom like Cloudy, will I still get OTA pushes? Once I did all that with my S3, I never got notifications for them, but it sounds like they will still come with the G3.
That's a lot. Sorry about that!

Hello,
I have just upgraded mine to Lollipop 5.0 and I see the Guest mode enabled by default. There is no Guest mode options in Settings to turn it off. I knew how to setup Guest mode when I was using 4.4, but not with this 5.0. Probably I missed somthing?
Could someone give me some directions please, thank you very much.

To gain root it is pretty simple on Sprint. You can root it with Stump root method like you said.
I have not used that method so I do not know if you will get recovery, I believe you will not so you will have to flash recovery with app called Flashify. You can get it from playstore, but before you will have to get correct recovery image and put it on your phone storage.
Recovery image can be downloaded here: http://downloads.codefi.re/thecubed/lg_g3/bump/
You can also use command line to flash recovery: http://www.droidviews.com/install-twrp-recovery-on-lg-g3-all-variants-using-bump/
Nandroid backup is created in recocery under "backup" section. It will backup your current setup (rom, apps, and all on system).

Hello,
I have just upgraded mine to Lollipop 5.0 and I see the Guest mode enabled by default. There is no Guest mode options in Settings to turn it off. I knew how to setup Guest mode when I was using 4.4, but not with this 5.0. Probably I missed somthing?
Could someone give me some directions please, thank you very much.

I am on AOSP ROM so I can not check but it should be in settings (multiple account/guest mode).
View settings as list, that should be easier to find it.
@mjjcb - forgot to answer on last question. Once you flash custom rom you will not be able to receive OTA updates. To receive official OTA you will have to gobl back to stock firmware.
And always before flashing make sure that your phone version is supported by that rom.
Hi, I've been searching but eden with the great info here it is easy to miss gotcha. I'm looking to buy a G3 for me and a G2 for the wife, preferably a Tmo or other US GSM carrier version. With the Tim version or Bump, can the current custom recovery installers install TWRP even if the current phone owner has flashed whatever the latest OTA is? Thanks!!
