4.3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Ive been scouting around, and i cant seem to find any news on when a 4.3 rom will be ported to our beloved device. Anyone have any inside news on such a thing?

It's always a race to be first, so I wouldnt be surprised if someone pops out a 4.3 rom by the end of today (but I'm sure more realistically is next week). Just gotta be patient I guess.

Me too, lol. I read this morning that the Cyanogenmod team is running into quite a few build errors, so once they sort through them it prolly wont be very long after that to see the development sections getting flooded with 4.3 roms.

Awesome
I tried porting it from the mako, but no go. Too many internal changes for me to use pieces from 4.2.2 successfully

The first official CM10.2 nightly based on 4.3 was built yesterday.

Theres even been some issues getting it to the Gnex side. It's there but lots of hurdles to make it work properly. Seems that Cdma devices are an issue somewhat, that may be why the carriers themselves are having issues. Plus lots of new integrated security measures from Google itself.

4.3 is not worth the trouble to change focus from 4.2.2 to 4.3. 4.2.2. Roms are much more stable and there is no point in having to iron out the problems with 4.3. At least in my opinion.

Why not stay on 4.1.2? Or ICS? If stability is your thing then stick with TW. Two months from now you'll be on 4.3 and glad that the dev community worked hard to put it together while saying the same thing about KLP...

4.2.2 has a number of changes significant enough for me to flash a 4.2 ROM every once and a while. But not 4.3. Stability isn't my thing. The trade off between stability and features is my thing.

Just curious because your comment made no sense to me but the could just be me. 4.1 TW is loaded with features and extremely stable, 4.2 AOSP is kanged together but rather stable. 4.3 kanged together, plenty of bugs and not stable.
Now you saying you would trade features for stability which makes no sense because what good are features if you can't benefit from them because it's unstable. But the roms with the most features are TW roms and the most stable. Just confused about what you said cause you say one thing then go in a different direction.

I never even referred to TouchWiz. I am comparing AOSP ROMS. Particularly 4.2, and 4.3. In that comparison I concluded that 4.3 did NOT have a significant number of changes, and, or added features to put time into making 4.3 more stable, when 4.2 is already significantly more stable. Make sense? Basic logic. Never even brought up ToucWiz people.

I really dont see the confusion, before the official cm 10.2 nightlies I had a port of android 4.3 for our device two weeks ago.

Low support?

Is this phone losing support? It doesn't seem a whole lot of breakthroughs are surfacing anymore. Coming from Evo 4g where stuff was constantly popping up despite HTC dropping support, I would think this phone would have many more options it being way more current. Is it because of tmobile, the phone itself, etc? I'm considering swapping out this for the s3 as I just recently got this phone because it was cheap but I have one more week to decide...

Seems like a good amount of roms in development to me?
Jb seems all very similar to me....a few good choices is plenty. Again....to me.
Yes....devs do move on tho....phone is getting older now...contracts come up and people update to newer devices. Nature of the beast I think.
Sent from my cell phone telephone....
if you had the option of s3 why'd you choose the 2 year old s2
We went from android 2.3 and now on the latest android, 4.2. We have cm9,cm10, cm10.1, miui, chameleon os, aokp, slim bean, liquid smooth, pacman, paranoid and touchwiz 4.0 and 4.1.2. That seems like most of the ROMs out in development. And we have some great devs still working for this phone.

That's the nature of the beast though. Sure, all the tw roms share similarity, but so do the other forks of android...aokp and cm. The differences are under the hood and not visual.

Actually I think the difference between aokp and cm are visuals. Ie customizations..
We have many choices, but as far as originality it seems most, not ALL, share more or less the same features. Today I just found out the evo 4g just had digital karma Rom updated within the last few months and that phone is ancient. As far as that phone went, sense roms differed GREATLY from one another. Aosp was about the same build no matter who baked it.
I'm not saying there aren't choices, but compared to an almost 5 year old device, this receives less love. But again, the base for jellybean was just recently released so I'll be checking, but it just seems every Rom I've been flashing is about the same.
Unfortunately for me, I'm limited to twiz roms because I need Wi-Fi calling due to poor reception at my house. I understand this is a framework feature, but compared to free alternatives, the tmobile version is hands down best voip option there is it seems.
I didn't rush out to grab this phone, but money at the time was tight and this was all I could afford, I had already gone 3+ months without a phone on Sprint due to the plan being rather pricy age their customer support blows. But in all honesty, this phone isn't too different from its older brother. The pros are so very minimal its really not that big of a difference speed wise. Perhaps more stable, but hardware wise its practically the same

I was sort of thinking it was leveling off until the official JB was released, and then it exploded. I can't keep track of all the new ROMs, kernel, and tweaks that are coming out daily. It's awesome to own this phone still. I love it.
It might just be me then. Used to another norm. Guess inside I just miss my Evo.

We have multiple 4.2.2 roms with nightly builds being released. What more do you need?
Pick from either TW or CM base
We dont really need 20 different roms that are the same thing with different theming
Which is all alot of roms are

With this phone it's really simple. Need wifi calling? If no, then go for 4.2.2 any of the popular ones (and we have virtually all of them!!!) are getting into milestones and are imo very stable DD material. Plus lately we've seen some awesome kernels pop up for them.
If you do need wifi calling, then stick with any TW 4.1.2 rom. Now they won't have a whole lot of improvements over stock, because we just got JB and source so give it some time. But soon you will see constant improvements for at least a few months until devs reach the point where there isn't really much to add to the rom...and probably waiting begins for TW 4.2
If you're looking for visual variety then I would suggest alternative launchers, LMT, launcher themes, rom themes, etc. Whether TW, Sense, AOSP, etc there really isn't a limit to how you make your phone feel and look.

No new roms or update

Yeah I know delete it or move. Just wondering if there is a surprise coming?

I'm not sure how in the world a stock Samsung/AT&T 4.2.2 Rom is going to outperform CarbonRom or Beanstalk.
And no I'm not looking for a debate about AOSP and TW Roms. Just an opinion.
The release date of 4.2.2 is still unknown for Note 2.

That sure nails it down.
They point out :
The update will bring with it some new features along with fixing bugs. Owners will be able to resize apps, change their colour and their layout.
Welp, I can do that already with Roms that are built they way they should be out of the box.
CarbonRom with Crossbreeder and Xposed installed is insane.
I may flash back to be able to receive the update.
But it'll probably make me want to kick my own ass, and I'll restore back to heaven.

And after all that all I have to say is one simple thing Spen.
I am running AOSP right now the alternatives for the Spen are still nowhere near the seamless integration on a TW Rom, no discussion there.
If you dont care aobut the Spen then sure, who cares about TW Roms.
I get improves fps on games and benchmarks with the current ROM at the cost of some spen functionality...I wish i didnt have to choose.
Err..... did you even read what I wrote?
I got a note because of it size and spen. I still can use it just not everything is as seamless as with tw ROMs. In fact I may just go back to one so no idea how you interpreted what i wrote that way seriously....

Considering the Optomus G pro but...

Hey guys thinking of upgrading to this phone and I love the look, feel, and features of this phone, but it doesn't look like you guys have much going on in the way of development? I'd be coming from the Samsung Infuse, so I'm a bit spoiled, when the phone was newer lots of developers were building and porting custom roms, and currently there are about 4 variations of updated (Android 4.1+) roms in development. Currently I'm on Beanstalk for the Infuse (android 4.3) which is a great rom with tons of customization.
I wouldn't mind learning and developing myself but with the apparent shortness of developers this could be slow going. Am I missing something here, is there just not a lot of development because this is a relatively new device, or is it a hard or impossible device to hack?

Yeah there a cm10.1 thats almost a daily. Pretty much everything works just a few bugs. There are repositories for a slimbean 4.3 on github but idk how far along that is as there been no release. And over in android forums there a guy working on a stock debloated deodexed rom and the bootloaders only been bypassed for a month or so. Well like mrdsl said cm10 is the base for many of the good rom anyway and its almost done so I would expect to see development pick up soon. I agree .. it's a good stock rom. I would have to say most people install roms to improve performance but even on the Note2 I had I wasn't installing roms like I did in the past on every device prior.. and in fact this G pro benchmarks about 60 to 100 percent faster than the Note2 in most ... and so far it's been the fastest, slickest device I've used by far. I'm using Apex Launcher for customizing .. and at this point my phone looks like stock Android 4.3 and runs lightning quick.. and battery life has been stellar. And I'm liking and using the quicknote dedicated button! Only thing I miss about my note2 is kinda the S-pen and the inky blacks(contrast)
I have own a lot of Samsung devices...starting from s2 to s4 and I change my s4 for this device because I didn't feel I big upgrade from s3...of course I miss switching rooms but I can tell you that this phone is a lot quicker than many phone out there...the G pro is a lot more responsive than my wife note 2 and what I love about this phone is BATTERY this monster last the whole day

Stock is good, but modded roms are better. that's my option. Because the stock rom is so perfect, we're hailing the rom, but we better make sure that doesn't offend the developers. Even it is perfect, it is still 4.1, we will need 4.2/4.3 roms very soon, and LG won't catch up with our interest. So, we better appreciate what developers are trying now. Pls don't say we don't want mod roms.
For me, I just have one request to the devs, whatever you do, pls make sure the Quick Remote is in your rom, coz I'm already obsessed with it so much. now I can control everything around me with my phone.

What's happened to Samsung and XDA?

I bought my SIII about 6-8 months ago, coming from the SII.. the Devs and roms for the SII were good and plentiful .. I get the SIII and it seems like there isn't much support for it! I mean my SII shortly after giving it to my wife was updated to 4.1.2 WTF?? I surely thought by now my SIII would be 4.2.2! (Maybe even 4.3!!).. am I wrong for feeling this way? Is it Samsung I should cuss the F out? LoL! Now I have the "itch" to say screw it and start flashing again but nothing seems too promising as a DD

Samsung feels 4.1.2 is pretty much bug free. Now they are struggling to keep up with the booms in technology and software as well. New versions of Android are coming out quicker than Sammy's new phones. Why put out a 4.2.2 when 4.3 is out? So now they concentrate on getting out new phones with 4.3 on it and then they start working on updates to the dozens of existing models. 4.3 was announced as coming to the S3 BUT that will be the international first then US months later depending on carriers.
What is in 4.2.2 that you MUST have? There are 4.3 AOSP ROMs all over if you want that.

There are various ways to flash other carriers roms to T-Mobile, the AT&T variant is almost (and in some cases) a direct port...
It doesn't seem like the newer versions of Android add too much more function than 4.1.2. As far as looks, their are plenty of ways to theme your phone to make it look like whatever you like

Going to have to agree with this. 4.3 even on the best ROMs are alphas at best.
The only semi stable AOSP/CM ROMs are 4.2.2 and under.
And all AOSP/CM ROMs since have a weird bug with Instagram or third party apps and their front facing camera.

Since posting this thread I've used CM10.2 Nightlies and also ParanoidAndroid 3.99 RC2.. I can honestly say (and this is of course my own opinion and result) that CM has been a better experience. I use my phone a bunch for little things, internet, text messaging, FBing, Pictures, XDA, games, etc and haven't had any problems with CM.. Only reason I switched back from PA to CM was honestly only that Candy Crush wasn't compatible with PA (and I barely play CC anymore lol).. I've just lost my ability to use Triangle Away for some reason.. It was working on the CM10.2 09/07 nightly, flashed PA and didn't work. Then flashed back to CM but the 09/26 and still not working, flashed the new kernel and TA still gets stuck at Detecting Packages.. Wish someone would tell me why.. I've posted in like 5 different places and nobody responds

My biggest issues are surrounding bluetooth - I experience issues related to pops when switching songs - almost sounds like a non-flushed buffer, and sometimes major lag... almost like the app has crashed, but it doesn't... it comes back. This was on SlimBean 4.3...
I haen't tried CM or the others primarily because I reverted to 4.1.2 for stability.
My best bet on Triangle Away is to run it just before you boot into download mode... (that SHOULD work...) Samsung introduced stuff back when 4.0 came out where the triangle would get re-set whenever you'd boot into an altered recovery...

Sprint LG G2 no love?

So Ive never had a device (even on sprint) that has no development to be seen within a weeks period of time. I believe the Root we have is from other devices and the CM 10.2 build that was posted was something that was supposed have never seen the light of day and was broken. I totally love this phone but I was really excited for the development aspects since its basically nexus 5 with a different shell. Anyone else with the sprint variant a little worried by the lack of interest?
I'm on the same boat, many probably are.
This phone is still solid stock.. all I really need is tethering... patiently waiting

Those other carrier variants have been out way longer than ours. We've only had ours for 1 week now. Give it a bit more time?

Development is under way. There are 2 devs working on a CM 10.2 ROM right now and another working on a version of CleanROM for us. Its going to take some time and the phone hasn't been out for a week yet.
Also the CM 10.2 ROM was removed because the build was not tested and verified by the dev to be working and they removed the links to it in case it caused a potential brick to the phone. People who downloaded the ROM say it had GPS lock and rotation issues so you don't want to download the ROM anyways. In fact they saved you the hassle of reverting back to stock or a nandroid backup. Read the last few posts in that CM 10.2 thread to get a sense of the situation.
I am not worried at all about the "lack of interest" in this phone. You have to remember that not all the potential devs have received the phone yet such as garwynn who probably just received the phone today. Lets give the potential devs some time to come out with new ROMs and other mods. There are enough ways currently to mod the current stock ROM anyways through Xposed and other mods like (increase volume).
Its only been a week. Our device was rootable even before Sprint released it. I'm not worried. For now I've been using Greenify + Titanium Backup to keep my phone in battery/performance BEAST MODE.

Install G2 xposed and you'll see you can do a lot of the customization yourself. There's also an xposed kitkat theme in the theme's section by ock. The device is already fast and ignoring aosp roms, you can customize the stock rom to your liking.
I ain't skeeerid

I guess I didn't think about the fact that the other variants had been out for a few months already, but I really wasn't trying to comparing them. I was just noticing that compared to devices I've had in the past (even the SGS II which I hated lol) had some things pop up pretty quickly. Also make sure that no one takes this as me complaining, just thinking out loud here.
And as to the xposed stuff, Im atually just interested in some slimed down stock roms and AOSP, but thanks for making sure I knew about it
PS: Ive also had this phone for close to a month so Im probably feeling that rom flash bug harder than most XD

Not worried about development because it's still early. But we do have Garwynn:good:

How can we help test it if we can't find the darn thing?
Here's where the Rom is located:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2509486
So far I've rooted, download rom, installed twrp, tried flashing it but it booted stuck on carbon logo. It may be because I don't have the gapps file.
Any one with a link to 4.3.1 gapps?
