Hi guys so I just bought a new galaxy nexus and I am coming from blackberry so this is my first android device ... now the device I bought is currently locked to Fido (canadian carrier) and I currently have a SIM card with Telus(canadian carrier) on my blackberry ... I read about wugfresh and other one-click toolkits but I was just wondering if ''unlock'' also means unlocking the phone to multiple carriers or if it only means that its giving me access to root my phone etc...
Thank you,
Matthew
Option B. No relation between the 2.
Damn it ... Do you know of any software that can let me unlock the device so it can be used with a different carrier ?
That's not how it works. You need the unlock code to correspond to your device.
You get the unlock code from the original carrier. Call and see if they will give it to you.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Well ok guys thank you !

I have used Wugfresh toolkit for quickness, when you unlock the bootloader it just gives you acces to the files. I don't think it has anything to do with carrier. If they are both GSM carriers and the phones supports the freq's then you should be able to use your phone on different carriers. I'm on Verizon so I don't get to do all that but from what I have read you should be able to put the new sim card from the new carrier in and it work if your phone supports the freq's they use.
Don't forget that if you unlock the bootloader it will wipe your phone so make sure you have anything on there you want to keep backed up first.
I bought this phone a year ago from Rogers and I had it unlocked after canceling service with them.
About 2 weeks ago this phone broke on me, so I sent it in for repair under warranty from Samsung. They fixed it and replaced the motherboard in the phone. However, now the phone is locked again to Rogers. I called Rogers and they refused to unlock it again, telling me I need to get service from them to get them to unlock it since it was over 6 months.
I called Samsung and they told me they can't help me. I already paid to have this unlocked before, how cna I unlock this phone? This is driving me crazy. I can't use the phone I paid for and I can't use my sim card.

You can try the linked method on 4.1.2, and if it does not work, downgrade the phone to rogers 4.1.1 and use this technique to unlock. It will stay unlocked after doing this. I have done it on Rogers S3'shttp://www.redmondpie.com/permanent...-and-galaxy-note-ii-for-free-how-to-tutorial/

Yeah, I had to downgrade to 4.1.1, then do a factory reset, then do that unlock method. All is good now.
Thanks
Thanks !

Probably with Odin.
Hey folks
I currently own an EE UK branded M9 (CID: ORANG001) and Im planning to unbrand it using this A-Z guide:
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-restore-htc-one-m9-to-stock/
Which seems pretty comprehenvive and idiot proof, but it mentions nothing about Sim Unlock, so should I go ahead or SIM unlock the M9 first,
Thanks
Solved

I just recieved an Unlock code from eBay, which worked fine. All sorted, ready to unbrand

FYI rooting / unlocking the bootloader will not affect your sim status.
I bougth a second hand s6 edge t-mobile version 64 gb. No issues with the smartphone until i checked for an update. It said the devise have been modified and connect......
I searched and searched about this and when i went to system status,it said custom. I thougth the devise migth have a custom rom but for no reason i openned the unlock device app for t-mobile and it showed my devise was locked yet i had no carrier problems. It even said permenant or temporary unlock . Both of them failed.
Im thinking of taking this phone back to the seller but i want to be sure if its actually locked or some other issue. I think a custom rom was installed on this devise to unlock it before i purchased it. Any ways to know if phone is locked or not?
Hi all, I've been reading tons of threads and I am still having some difficulties with this phone. I am not in the US, I got this phone from a coworker that was going to throw it away and brought it with me to south america to give it to my friends mom who has no money, its and old phone but the one she has is even crappier ,I thought I would be able to just pop the SIM and get it going but nope.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it, I have a few more days before I go back home and I would love to be able to leave this working for her.
Let me put you up to speed:
-Phone is running Android 4.3
-Phone was rooted using Odin, has SU and CWM
-Followed thread here to SIm unlock: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2023709 but #4 option is not present on 4.3
-I tried downgrading to 4.1.2 custom root666 to see if I could get #4 but to no avail since you cannot from this 4.3 version
-About to follow this thread :https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48012926&postcount=8
but not sure if correct for what I want to do.
No more ideas, please help!
The phone can only be unlocked used an unlock code. Try contacting T-Mobile for a free unlock code or buy a code from eBay.
i'm with the same problem. i bought an sgh-i747 and after two months it bricked, so i replace the logical card (i don't remember how to say it in English, lol.) and boom!!! now i have a t999 and it doesn't work with movistar. (i'm from Venezuela)
but well, i've been reading posts about unlocking the phone and every one of them only works in JB 4.1.x. i don't know if i could unlock it by the downgrade process and i'm scared of getting the phone bricked again.
