I made the experience thats on Cyanogenmod- based ROMs, the writing speed of both my 4 class 16gb and 4 class 8gb sandic micro sdhc card is very very slow- ca 300 kbs/sec (Miui too)
when i tried the sd card on a sense based rom- take insertcoin or leedroid- there are speeds beyong 2mbs/ sec!!
I want cyanogenmod but the speed is so annoying!
Does anyone have the same problem?
There is some cache tweak to speed up the SD card. You can google this tweak.
You can compare these value's from your MIUI rom to the other roms.
If you see big differences, you can set this value to the value that does give you speed.
And btw, a class 4 means at least 4MB/s!
This is definitely rom related.
hi,
look at this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807
thank u very much so i want to keep insertcoin for a while, but if i want to change to cm again, i will try this tweak
i wonder why some roms have so low cache sizes?

Thx... worked like a charm for me.
it is all about blocksizes and caches ...
if you write or read really small blocks from the sd it will be much slower than reading a block with an optimal size for your sd.
Class 4 has 4MB/s writing speed. That is the definition but it is sequential write with big blocksize which does the 4Mb/s and is not really the real life speed.
but i tested this with a music album.. on both cm7 and leedroid/insertcoin
result: sense-roms were almost 10 times faster
does anybody have the same problem?
i don't get it why the writing speed for cm7 is soooo slow ^^
mhhhh did you read the thread??? 8)
sure i did... but i dont get it why the maker of some roms implement such a "feature" like slow writing speed.. even cyanogenmod
yep, this is a good question!
can only suggest to try leedroid v307++
actally got 1536Ko read_ahead_kb value writing as buffer and as i am using a data++ rom it s very smoothly and fast.

I wonder how i can improve the speed because the link doesnt help me, unfortunatley. I wanna use asop- roms again....
is there any application to detect memory card speed?
on market or any download site
SD Tools. <- search the market
Low write speeds are kernel related. It's a bug in the 2.6.37 and 2.6.38 kernels.
CM7's stock kernel is a 2.6.37. Just flash a 2.6.35 custom kernel e.g. ManU 2.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883598) and write speeds should increase to normal values.
Write speed can be further improved when you use "SD Formatter 3.0" from the SD association to format the card. It aligns the filesystem to the internal structures of the flash memory resulting in a speed boost up to 100% (but only if your SD wasn't filesystem aligned before)
Yeah, there i go! Its true when i use manu's kernel the writing speed is much faster! thanks! can be closed
Hi,
I wonder where is the truth about moving apps to SD card. I have HTC Desire which has really low space for apps. I used to use Darktremor A2SD script with CM7 but according to some users this can really slow down my phone while opening apps when I have slow SD card (I have 4class Kingston) and it probably does, becuase I experienced this issue very often. It was horrible and I decided to use different partition table. Now I have dalvik cache on internal storage.
Today I read that the more space I have on my internal storage, the faster the device is. The question is: Is this true? And is true that apps moved to SD (not using A2SD script) are slower?
On a very slow (cheap class 2) it can be true.
I have class 6 and not noticed slowdowns.
Theoretically - the internal NAND is faster than the SD Card, but if the ROM is set up correctly, it is unnoticeable.

So where is the problem? When I used A2SD script I experienct heavy lags while opening apps (Handcent, gallery, etc.) sometimes 2-5 seconds. It was really bothering. Full wipe helped everytime but after two days lags were back.
Now I am trying have dalvik on internal to see how it behaves.
I believe that class4 is not so slow and I also read that Kingston cards are sometimes much faster in tests, sometimes similar to other class6 SDs.
AFAIK, it depends on the ROM, too. For example I had no lags with AOSP ROMs, just Sense ones.

Ok. And do you think that the more free space on internal I have the more speed I can get while using the apps?

You might. Again i Think it is affected by many factors. For instance, when I was using Gingervillain 2.7 the phone was fast even with 20 MB left on internal - then I moved internal & stuff to the SD and had around 96 MB free - but did not notice that it was running faster.
Try using s2e app from market, I'm using that and it works very well

I've googled around a fair bit but nothing realy interesting came up. So what's the difference, is DATA2SD really supperior to A2SD+ in every way?
end_of_message / COMPUTOR4500
A2SD+ = app + Dalvik cache on the external SD (through an ext2/3/4 partition) BUT your data app remains on the internal storage.
Data2SD = app + Dalvik cache + data on the external SD.
With DATA2SD you might get much more free space for apps BUT if you have a slow sd-card your phone can become more slowly when it comes to overall performance and especially starting apps as they are completly on sd-card.
So if you don´t have that much apps you should go with A2SD
Thanks, that's good to know

i prefer data2sd, for me is better and if u have a good class sd, i think it may improve my desire speed..
oxygen 2.2.2 without data2sd about 1700 quadrant;
oxygen 2.2.2 with data2d about 2200/2300 quadrant points.
my sd is a SanDisk 8 Gb class4.

It has been discussed million times, that the data2sd/d2w/d2ext scripts fool quadrant, so you get FAKE scores, which do not reflect the actual score.
Altough it is good to show off to others
I have class 10 card and it's slow as sh*t.
Agree with both posts above. All data2sd and data2ext Roms are slow and laggy.

Because sd card class doesn't guarantee high sequential read and write speeds crucial for d2sd. He might have a lower class card and yet get better scores than you.

Quadrant == language of the ignorants.
I also found data2sd roms slower than a2sd, even with class 10 card. you got plenty of space with a2sd so i don't really see the point going data2sd

I disagree, all data2sd RoMs I have used are super fast and get zero lag. only time phone will lag is when installing an app and its only for couple seconds.
If you partition your phone right and use Gparted and have a good brand sd card your good to go.
Does it improve the lag if install the app of SD Speed Increase(from Market) and change the setting to 2048kb or 3072kb?
No. This setting doesn't improve anything, all positive effects are placebos.

Has anyone used a rom with Data2SD that has Sense and isn't laggy? I use a 16GB Class 6 Card. Any help would be deeply appreciated, Thank you!
I recommend to try this one:

Never tried myself, but it seems droidzone gives good support for this rom and he is very experienced in data2sd roms with sense.
I have data2sd installed with 200apps....data2sd is very slow n lags alot...I want to use link2sd as its faster but will I b able to hav 200 apps and does link2sd use the internal space even after linking all the files to sd card..
HTC WILDFIRE S
ROM:CM7
1 GB INTERNAL MEMORY
806MHZ OVERCLOCKED
ELECTRIC CYAN THEME
Link2SD does, in fact, continue to use internal space.
Depending on certain criteria (which I don't know), certain apps will continue to throw some portions onto internal memory.
Even if you're as anal as I am about going into Link2SD (after enabling the "auto-move to external thingy") and then MANUALLY grabbing linked apps and pushing them over to SD... you will still cry, swear, and wonder where all your internal space went. ;-)
I'm at about 50-60 installed apps and I'm down to 28MB left internally (only started off with about 57MB though, due to custom ROM limitation (deodexed).
Good luck,
- Anthony

Okay, so i have counted my apps, and i have 177 apps on the phone, and some of them are really huge, and it just works fine.. i am using a data2sd by jikantaru ... i guess your sd card is slow, or you use the bad data2sd script ?
try to class 8 up sdcard~
Class 6 will also do.
Dear god, what are you people doing with 150+ apps ?
Okay, I have Link2Sd installed on my device, I have almost one gigabyte of apps in it. I was just wondering, that can it be the problem, cause my Arc S' performance has became pretty awkward(gaming performance is ok, but scrolling it the menus and so on). Anyone else having Link2Sd and having the same problem? I really wouldn't like to uninstall this app, because it does wonders!

No it does not affect performance.
Bear in mind that apps that are moved to SD (whether it is with Android's native method or Link2SD) do not suffer from performance decrease depending on the class of your SD. Apps do not run from the apk, it's not like Windows that apps run from the corresponding exe file.
Yeah, good point. Of course the apps theirselves are installed in the internal memory. Didn't come in my mind Looks like I have to find another causeto my problem
Use a file cleaner to clean the cache/ history
Try using links2sd to clean the dalvic cache.
Hope this helps

Link2SD Plus version
I am using the latest version of Link2SD plus, which basically allows linking of all application files (apk, dex, lib, cache and data) to the second partition (ext2/3). Obviously this is a huge space saving benefit with the extremely limited internal memory of the Xperia Arc S.
Unfortunately, apps like Chrome, Skype and TuneIn radio (which require around 100MB each) have serious performance issues in this case; they become completely unresponsive and impossible to use.
I've experimented only moving certain types of the application files and noticed that this is most possibly caused by the cache files being linked to the sd card. By un-linking the cache files the apps become usable once again, but that takes quite a lot of space obviously. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there another solution?
I use link2sd on my arc s and i installed over 20 apps, it's fast.

I, too, must be another problem
Hello @ArmorD,
Link2SD performance relies on your external storage mediums read and write speeds; in this case your MicroSD cards speeds.
The MicroSD card which came with Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is just a slow Class 4 card, with terrible read and write speeds.
To get better performance you have to replace the MicroSD card with something a bit faster; any class 10 card would do the job. I would recommend Samsung, Kingston or Sandisk MicroSD cards, they're all great.
Keelah se'lai,
GethPrime
Get a faster card
Get a faster sd card, preferrably class 10, they are cheap, been using link2sd forever n even now with kitkat, still fast
I have an 80mbps micro in my axiom and I am running link2sd flawlessly best buy has sales all the time I picked one up for like thirty bucks worth the speed.
