How I flash the Overload 4.3 ROM? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

hi,
I will flash this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016452
the stock odexed version but I've a question: for flash this ROM from CWM, I wipe system partition?

Yeah but you better Google some stuff before you get started. Do you have root? Custom recovery? What are you currently running?
And you need to do wipe data/cache/dalvik cache/format system if you want a clean install.

yes I will wipe data with a factory reset.
Now I have the Android 4.2.2 ROM of bigxie, the deodexed version.
Is the wipe of system necessary?

Probably not, but there really is no reason not to do it. It takes maybe 5 seconds, and there are zero downsides to doing it.

I don't like it but ok XD

I totally agree, for a clean install, its not a must but is recommended to format system...

4.3 back to 4.2?
will there be any issues going from 4.3 back to 4.2?

I need to update radio and bootloader first?

problems flashing roms, big problems.

I don't know what caused it... but no matter what rom I flash it seems that it always gets through the bootup screens and then gets stuck on the samsung screen, and won't load into a custom rom. It seems like something happened to my system and I have tried everything and nothing it working. I can only run with the stock rom it came with and thats it.
I have no clue whats going on. When I flash from ROM to ROM I take these steps.
1- put rom on SD card
2- nandroid
3- factory wipe from recovery
4- wipe cache
5- wipe dalvik
6- flash rom
7- flash gapps (if on AOSP based)
8- reboot.
I have went back to stock via odin, then reflashed via odin, repushed the recovery, basically started from scratch and nothing is letting me install a new rom. Wasn't really having any problems until today... any ideas? :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
edit- I was thinking, I did ALOT of debloating at the beginning using the aroma debloater, and did some minor debloating myself.. I wouldn't think this would have anything to do with a new rom because when I wipe everything it does a fresh install of everything... So I am stuck.

Yes. Although if you're updating a rom i.e. cm or aokp a cache/dalvik cache wipe will do (unless stated otherwise).

see my main thing was everyone was talking about how if I was going from a modded stock rom to a modded stock rom there would not need anything except cache wipes... and i still get hung..:/
I recommended backing up all of your data, do a factory reset, then go back to stock with an Odin package from development. From there you can root or whatever you please.

Will Rooting wipe data?

My freind wants me to root his galaxy nexus but I dont know if it will wipe the data.
He is running 4.0.2 and there in an "unlock" thing when it boots up at the google screen. thanks

the "unlock thing" on the Google screen indicates that the bootloader is already unlocked. The bootloader must be unlocked before you can root. While unlocking the bootloader will wipe the data, that has already been done, so no need to worry about it. Rooting will not wipe any data.

There is a way to switch without wiping the contents of /sdcard, but it will wipe your apps and app data, but that's what Titanium Backup is for.
If you u use cwm u can flash ROM and just wipe davik cache which should keep data intact.

I agree. Especially when coming from ICS to JB, you want to fully wipe data and system. just wiping cache/dalvik cache without a full data/system wipe is a terrible idea (except when loading a minor update of a ROM that is currently running on your phone). If you don't do a full wipe, you'll have a lot more issues/force closes/weird things happening.
I used fastboot to update to JRO03C, then on to twrp.

(HELP) accidentaly deleted PHONE.APK

guys can anyone post here the stock of PHONE.apk i un-installed my PHONE contacts application without back up T_T
pls post here my version is 4.0.4 using AOKP MILESTONE 6
Backup all your user apps, with titanium backup, install the latesy cwm/twrp recovery, do a full wipe (data/cache/dalvik cache) and flash a 4.2 rom.
PROFIT!

Sure
Install the goo.im app via play store, tap menu, and select install openrecoveryblabla
After that, download this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882248
And place it on your sdcard. Boot into recovery, make a backup of your current rom.
Then do a factory reset + cache wipe+ dalvik cache wipe. Then install the rom you just downloaded. Then reboot the system. PROFIT

Bluetooth problem is with ASOP 4.2.1 builds its fixed in 4.2.2 I think.
edit: sorry for grammatical errors, im still upset it took four hours to get this phone back working again after doing a clean wipe
Interesting, I tried to install it, and was successful...but the keyboard doesnt work, every five seconds, i got a FC with the aosp keyboard. tried looking for another keyboard, but i cant type it in, so i guess i may have to put the apk on my sd card...also wifi doesnt want to turn on...is there no launcher in this rom? the home button doesnt work
to add, i have unlocked the bootloader, so im thinking this is a cosunmer-turned-into-a-dev phone...but i read that the rom was hybird...i really dont like safestrap, as it takes long to build a slot, so i figured unlocking the bootloader would be easy enough...but no...im using cwm 6.0.x

GPS hasn't been tried yet , I don't use this.
so any fixes on CM10 gps? Someone said to flash to a stock based rom, get a gps lock then flash CM10.
which roms are stocked based?
once you get a gps lock, when installing CM10, do you do a clean wipe in CMW?

Every ROM listed for the RazrM (so far) is stock based, except CM10 and CM 10.1 . All the ones posted in this forum and DroidRzr were designed to be used with Safestrap and they are based on stock. Yes, you need to do a clean wipe for any ROM you install. However, I flashed Rage two nights ago and wiped cache/dalvik, factory data reset, but I DID NOT wipe system. It flashed perfectly. After you wipe, reboot recovery and mount system. After you wipe, TWRP says the system is mounted, but it is not. If you flash CM, you will need to flash a stock boot.img before you can go back to stock ROM.

[Q] regarding Google edition roms

My apologies if this has been asked before. But from my understanding the Google edition still has all the touch wiz framework. I was Wondering if you had to Odin back to stock in order to flash a modified stock Rom? I had to do this on my s3 because it always gave me problems. This is an issue for me now because my hard drive on my laptop is fried and have no access to Odin besides mobile Odin.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
A modified stock ROM will be packaged to flash in recovery. Just be sure to properly wipe since you will be going back to TW.
So all I have to do is do a super wipe, system and all. And I should be good to go? Can I nandroid back to my current set up if I don't like the Google edition Rom? Or will that cause complicatIons that will require me to Odin back to stock?
I know it's a dumb question. But I want to Bork my Device

Nandroid is fine, and doesn't need any wiping, it does it before the restore, but I wipe anyways.
If you just want to flash a different ROM, for going from ROM to different ROM, it's best to:
Factory Reset
Wipe both Caches
Format /system
Flash ROM or ROM and gapps if it's AOSP
To upgrade a current ROM to an updated version, if the base version of Android hasn't changed, you can dirty flash, which is the exact steps, minus the factory reset.
Okay thanks, I was just curious. Because I can't currently restore from Odin because I don't have a pc.
