GPS program called "Automapa" - problem - LG Optimus G (International)

This is my first post so hello to everyone.
First of all, i apologize for my bad english.
For about a month I`m a user of LG E975. Telephone is brilliant, but I have one issue.
I use very often GPS navigation, and I am used to use program called "Automapa".
This is a polish program. On my earlier device HTC HD 2 everything works fine, but
on LG E975 GPS Signal is very unstable. One time it is, but after a few second it`s vanished, and
the situation repeats. This is not dependent on the weather.
Other aplications, like tomtom, naviexpert, or google maps works fine.
Could anyone tell me what is the problem? Is the GPS reciver on LG so weak?
I would like to enclose the trial version, but I can`t do it without 10 posts,
so if anyone would like to help I can send the trail version by PM, or mail.
If anyone can test it, or solve the problem I`ll be grateful

Try gpsfix from market.
Maybe the app can't properly use the hardware.

I have tried Fasterfix and GPS Status&Toolbox from market.
Situation has not change.
I think that problem is deeper inside.

I have rooted phone, but still oryginal firmwere.
If there is a chance to improve gps working on other rooms I can try to change it.
I didn`t do it because everything else works fine for me on stock rom.
Is there a custom rom for LG E975 that works like a stock?
Im tired of changing roms on HTC HD2, I have changed about 30 roms on HD2.
I have bought LG to have some spare time
But if there is no other option I will do it

It's very strange. To test it better download GPS test from Play Store. Try it with any ROM or Kernel. CM9, CM7, stock or MIUI.

thanks...i will try it at home.
i wounder that i could not find any improve for my gps.
at my "old" lg optimus speed, i could go in the "hidden menu" and change the gps server from the android , to the nokia server -> very fast gps fix.
is that possible at the xperia play.
but i see something strenge:
everytime, when i activate gos, it ask me, if i would connect to gps, it may coast some cash.
normaly this warning came 1 time, and it's it. but i saied over 40 times, "ok".
maybe anybody knows this bug?!
any solution?
still got GPS-Problems...
I got still problems with my GPS.
It will not navigate me.
When i go to any navigation system, it shows me, where i am (up to 100m from my real place).
But it wouldn't fix my place, where i am.
I tried a lot of rom's (also stock roms....with root and without...)diverent navigation systems....
Gps test shows me up to "0/3"Sattelites....don't know, what this means.
I think the gps modul works, because it can fix GPS (after some time) when i open the device(like i want to play) and put it in the window of my car (to the front..) but this is the only way, it works....
solutions? A friend of mine got also a xperia play and he get a fix in ~10 secounds....
plz help because i need GPS
Best regards
i have the same problem
here try flashing this in recovery its a gps fix that acquires signal from up to 12 satellites instead of just the bare minimum 4 or something like that. Ive been using and I get a location fix real fast and when I do a gps test I'm always using up to 9 never less than 7! Hope this can cure your problem. And if that does nothing for you try this: found it over in neo forum

If its the Google gps you are referring to, then it is difficult to get it up and run, instead use another gps like Sygic which is great. with this app you don't need to use data, you only need to download the map of that country you want to and use it as an offline gps, just like a Garmin gps.

GPS speed really differs between ROMs. Stock tends to connect pretty slowly. If you are willing to use custom roms, there are some who work significantly better. I'm using Enhanced236 and I love it. Tried to install CM9 RC1 but GPS won't work at all
GPS Status & Toolbox
Try this:
can't post the direct link so search on the google play markt for: GPS Status & Toolbox
This problem is still current on the Gio. I have several friends who got them new recently, shipped with Android 2.3.6. The problem is simply that the GPS, much of the time, cannot connect. Without a data connection it NEVER works (!!!) even out in the open. Gps status shows no satellites; Google maps cannot connect.
One of them rooted hers and is using some scripting hack which periodically erases gps configuration files - this fixes all problems. So the problem seems generally software bound, not hardware. Two years after this device has been released it still seems Samsug didn't care much about fixing it... pretty bad.
Because of the nature of aGPS I'd suggest "GPS Status & Toolbox" AND "GPS Aids" from Play Store. Should cut down cold fix time to a fairly reasonable 20-30s instead of MINUTES.

[Q] GPS stopped working!

please help. on my LG Optimus G e975 stopped working GPS. I initially thought that this due to custom firmware. but when I got back to the official firmware and it does not work ( I also edited gps.conf under my region, also tried various programs to find satellites-nothing helped. satellites no catches at all! maybe someone encountered this problem and can help will be very happy! Sorry for bad english (
Same problem on F180K, Tried different Stock roms and gps.conf, no effect.
I'm 3rd.....same problems...no gps lock.Although in copilot live i get "GPS signal is found, determine the location" message,it get's stuck like this for ever.I tried anything i could think of,nothing worked. I guess i'll just send it to warranty.

Hmm... Interesting. Just out of the blue? What exact model is your phone? Looks like we already have reports on E975 and F180. I have strange things happening with my F180's GPS sometimes, like reported lock on a single satellite (physically impossible), but generally it works well (and I hope it keeps working)...

What application are you using to check your GPS? I don't know if mine is working, on Maps, it detects where I am. And I also can locate it through Device Location Manager. Please clarify if what I am saying is related to this query. Thanks.

There are some good apps that show you the detailed status of your GPS system, including the number of sats, A-GPS data availability, exact coordinates, positioning error, time to fix, etc. The one shown on the screenshot in [email protected]'s post is GPS Status & Toolbox, I use it all the time. Another good one is AndroiTS GPS Test. Yet another is GPS Essentials. Just search on Play Store...

BTW, just out of curiocity... Since nothing seems to work, as you said, how long is "forever"? I mean, what is the longest time you left the phone waiting for a fix? Theoretically, a cold start of a GPS receiver can take up to 12-15 min (if I recall correctly) to the first fix, or even longer for some receivers that do a wide PRN search on cold start. So, I wonder what happens after leaving the phone's GPS waiting for about 20 min or so? I would think if it doesn't get a fix after that long, you can conclude it's most probably a receiver's problem. Just thinking out loud here...
Installed the GPS test apps, AndroiTS GPS Test and it is really taking too long determining my GPS Status.
I let it outside, for more than 30 minutes. My gf's arc made the cold lock in less than 1 minute. When i first got the phone,it made the cold lock in about 10 seconds. I was amazed. It was the fastest lock ever. I'll try the apps you mentioned. About google maps,it is irrelevant, because it's using data. I tried gps fix and gps status pro. Nothing worked. Again,on arc s it fixed in less than a minute. I'm starting to think it's hardware.
Sent from stock LG E975/smart phones, dumb people.
I am also now worrying if it's with the hardware. Does that mean that most OG units have damaged/problematic GPS sensor? Is it software or really hardware related? I was at first confident that mine is working, since Maps can detect my location.

Technically, in that time it should get a lock even if it really was a true cold start (no A-GPS data, no almanac, no ephemeris)... Did something happen around the time you lost the GPS? New ROM flash, possible physical damage, anything? I am not an expert in this by any means, just trying to apply some logic and common sense -- I am pretty sure you went through all that yourself... GPS on phones is weird sometimes. I had a couple of phones (Samsung i8000 and LG P990) that totally lost GPS lock with some particular ROMs, but went back to normal after flashing another ROM. I also had to reboot my SGS2 several times to get GPS locking again. And all the apps I know that are made to improve the time to fix are only changing GPS configs to set the NTP server and the Xtra server for A-GPS data, that's pretty much it...
I know ,and one of the best app is gps fix.
About the issue, don't know when it appeared. I even try to do a hard reset from hidden menu, nothing worked. all gps tests from the same hidden menu are negative. No phisical problems(never dropped the phone, it's well protected). I think monday i'll send it to warranty. If i'm lucky enough, i might get a G2 instead, because my carrier won't sell G no more . It happened in the past, i have friend who got their galaxy s2 replaced with the S3 . I think this is possible, because i payed the same amount of money for the G in march,at the same monthly fee(320 euros). So, wish me luck .

LG G2 GPS issue, observations and possible fix!

Hello everybody and glad to be part of this community.
First please excuse my English.
I recently bought an LG G2 LS980 ZVD kitkat 4.4.2 and notice that my GPS doesn't work, I tried every possible solution found in internet (not with flashing the device, because I'm like 2 days old in android ) even a peace of paper under the antenna.
I found a way to get my GPS work and get a lock in seconds but for the first start of the phone after a factory reset, if I restart the phone the GPS problem appear again.
So this what I did after baying the phone:
root the phone with iroot.
trying several solutions in internet(no luck).
factory reset.
set new configuration of the phone (language, name, email...).
let the update of google services inc complete.
let google hangout update.
disable GPS and enable it again(the phone ask me to accept the terms -->ok... here he ask me again that the localization services was disabled in a previous version of android, do you want to enable it-->ok...).
click on google maps (wifi is enable).
get a lock (fix) in seconds .
GPS test app: about 21 sat in view, about 12 sat in use :victory: .
For a month I thought that I fixed the problem until I restart my phone the problem return again. But I did the fallowing observation:
enable plane mode --> no GPS signal.
disable plane mode --> GPS test app and androits GPS app: getting about 8 sat in use, about 50 feet accuracy then signal freeze.
I reset my phone again, GPS work only for the first start again.
Any idea what does the phone do in the 2nd start after factory reset!!!
Thank you all.

If you want to rule out a software issue, use LG Flash tool and image your phone with a .tot file.
Here's a thread about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702422
Get the ZVE version and flash it. This will wipe your ENTIRE phone of course.
If that doesn't fix it, it's a hardware issue.
Oh, and welcome to the community
If you're nervous about this method. Watch a Youtube video to good idea. Then follow the guide exactly, you'll be ok.

Thank you for your reply.
Sorry but I don't think that is a hardware issue, because I tested it within a month without restart, a week, and now a day... the 2nd restart will make the GPS problem if I'm correct...
For the ZVE .tot I will see how to proceed with flashing... thank you again, but before that can anyone confirm the GPS issue FIX in the ZVE version.
Thank you.

Well, the G2 doesn't have a great GPS. It wasn't an "issue" per se, but it is a problem that some have and others don't GPS works great for me on ZVE and ZVG (Lollipop). ZVE is the latest Kitkat release and has proven to be solid and stable with good GPS. But like I said... the G2 GPS is flaky compared to other phones, I hope it sorts itself out with a complete refresh. That's what I would do.
Once you're up and running, turn on location and download GPS Status and toolbox. It has an option to download A-GPS data making your locks faster. Then watch as it picks up satellites (hopefully).

Roger that,
For me GPS Status and toolbox doesn't solve my problem (except if I'm connected to internet, the location is using A-GPS and doesn't show any sat). I think the problem is in using A-GPS beside GPS it self, if I'm not connected to internet the phone kinda refuse using GPS captors and wait for A-GPS... if I turn plane mode on then off the GPS reception start then stop and GPS Status and toolbox show many sat and stop too. I know this is weird but i was wandering is there a way to force not using A-GPS at all and see what happened. I think it's a solution for Chinese phone with MKT chipset maybe it's the same for LG. Sorry I'm not an expert so maybe I'm saying nonsense.

Yeah I don't think GPS status will solve your problem, that's why I suggested a full refresh. I never tried to force just GPS, but I would think disabling mobile data and wifi would do it, since it uses towers (and pull your sim).
I just picked up a refurb Sprint LG G2 LS980 from Freedompop. It came with 5.02 Lollipop installed. I have been trying to get the GPS to work reliably but it;s been a struggle. I find that I can only get it to work some of the time when my 3g radio is on. Doesn;t work for me on 4G/LTE or Airplane mode. When it does work, it works well enough. The GPS status app usually says I have anywhere from 8-22 satellites available but never connects.
Another odd condition, when the 3g radio is on, it never switches to 4g even when the GPS is not running. takes a reboot to fix it.
Anybody else have GPS issues like this and have any fixes? Not being able to use the 4G is not such a deal breaker for me since I usually uses offline GPS apps like CoPilot or Maprika. But I'd like this to be atleast somewhat functional or else I am going to have to return the phone. just weird that the GPS would be tied to the 3g Radio in anyway.

GPS Fix on LG Stock (non-rooted) Marshmallow ?

Hi everybody !
Sometimes, I need to use my phone as a GPS and since I updated to stock marshmallow, GPS fix is really bad (can't fix or takes lonnnnnnng minutes) and regularly (too regularly...) when I drive, Google Maps says "Signal GPS Perdu" --> ("GPS signal Lost" ?) and obviously it's when i don't know the road...
In Lollipop (stock) , I thought that GPS was very bad compared to my old Galaxy SIII.
GPS fix took half a minute and sometimes it disconnects (but less than in MM when there is a fix...) (in the same location my old GSIII took 2-3 seconds and it never disconnects)
oddly, my old Asus TF700t who is on Marshmallow (KatKiss) works largely better than my G3 for the GPS (not as good as the GSIII, but it works really great) but unfortunately it's really complicated to take it on the car...
So, I would like to now if someone has these kind of problems with its G3 on stock marshmallow and if it's the case how to resolve it ?
Thank you

I was surprised when I received the same issue. Running GPS Locker before Google Maps seems to work for me, although I did load FasterGPS and set the NTP Server to my local area.

I tried FasterGPS and TopNTP apps but everytime i set different setting than default, the GPS stop detecting any satelites (previous root my LG g3)
I need a solution soon :crying::crying::crying::crying:
Same issue here. It finds the satellites but never gets the lock on. When without wifi or mobile data, its a problem
Or, when there is a fix, after a few seconds, it losts the signal...
On CM13, fix is faster, but it regularly losts the fix...
i have the same problem on my LG g3 I am tired of it........
